If I could rate this restaurant more than five stars, I would. My husband and I are visiting from Scottsdale Arizona when we looked up the reviews for places near us and this one had the best reviews and I understand why. We ordered Birria tacos, the Cardinal burger, chicken nachos, brussels sprouts and when I say every single dish was the best dish I've ever had for each of those categories I'm not kidding. I am also a lemon drop martini connoisseur and sarah made the best lemon martini I've ever had in my life and was so kind and personable she really made the experience great. I cannot rave enough about how amazing this food and atmosphere is and if you're visiting and you don't try this place you're absolutely missing out.
We were in WS for an event that evening and decided to have a late lunch/early dinner. After finding this place online it looked like it would do the job and we are glad we came in. Due to being in between the two meal rushes it was empty and we had great service immediately. We both got the chicken tinga tacos, which were good aside from a couple things. 1. They lacked salt, the flavor was great but it needed some extra saltiness and 2. The guac was a little suspect. It was very creamy avocado and brownish. Other than that the food was hot and delicious. The sweet potato fries were awesome. Definitely check it out
Allie was THE BEST SERVER EVER!!!! She was accommodating, honest, patient and helpful!!! My chicken fajita wrap was very flavorful! I'm not a fan of tomatoes so I had to pick those out but it was really good!! I tried the soy ginger dressing on my side salad. Yummy!!!! The fries were a little salty so we got them remade without salt. Overall, I'd visit again, only if Allie was my server!!
Went here after work with a co worker and after a long day at work, Twisted Pine absolutely hit the spot! They had a lot of options for vegetarians and great drinks and amazing service too. I got their veggie burger and Mac and cheese both were great, and the drink I got was amazing too. Twisted Pine also offers various THC cocktails as well!
This place haas been on my bucket list for a while now, and finally made it happen. I had read a great many of the reviews, the detailed ones at least, and I had focused on two items, the peppers and the chicken sandwich. I ordered both! The Shishito Peppers were exceptional, and made even better by the flavorful dipping sauce. These Japanese peppers are usually mild, though like any pepper, a rogue can sneak through. The peppers are mild and a bit sweet, and when cooked develop some very nice smokiness, which the dipping sauce builds on. On two other visits, I ordered the Shishito Peppers and the Spicy Lo Mein Salad once and Brussels Sprouts the other, for take out. When at home, put mayo in two small bowls and added Sriracha sauce to one and Frank's Original Hot sauce to the other. Now I had three sauces for the peppers, and all worked well - the heat really added to the flavor. The salad was very tasty as well, and the sprouts were excellent, not overcooked! The chicken sandwich is a busy sucker - a thick filet with a crispy breading, pimento cheese, sharp pickles, and bacon! As I often do with sauces I've not had before, especially if there is a sweet element, I ask for the honey based sauce on the side, and was accommodated! The chicken was very tasty, and a small bit of the honey sauce was fine, but with so much going on with this sandwich, the tastes and textures became all tangled up for me. The pimento cheese in particular seemed to contribute little, but taken by itself it was very nice. The bacon was fine, but then bacon almost always is fine! I basically deconstructed the sandwich and pretty much attack the components separately, combining bites along the way, adding and subtracting with some combos working better than others. You can either work with what you have, or you can rework what you have - done both! As they say, sometimes more is less. Cool place, good service. As with all restaurants, it's a matter of finding out they do that you like - be careful, the staff likes everything here apparently!
I came back with a little bit larger group. We sat outside on the patio, which is a nice space, but they do need some kind of screen toward the street so that the sun doesn't blast people right before dusk. We ordered the Szechuan shishito Peppers for an app again. They are quite good. We also had chips and salsa + guacamole + queso on the table. Good stuff. I'm only reviewing what my family had: I ordered the smoked bologna sandwich with crispy brussels in a balsamic sauce. The brussels are very good, and healthy too. The sandwich is fried bologna and an egg and cheese on sourdough toast. Decent flavors, but the bread was barely toasted and begging to be butter fried just a touch. Missed opportunity there. My wife had a patty melt and hers was about the same, barely toasted. There was a plain burger that was good and shrimp tacos that was also good. There were also a couple orders of waffle fries which were not cooked long enough. Just another minute or two in the frier would have done the trick. Overall for the food, it was a few great things brought down by a few not great things. Maybe it was the time of day (dinner), but these details make the difference. We had Millie as our server, and she was amazing. Very friendly and despite the busy hour, we never had to wonder where things were. She deserves an award!
Yum!!!! My family stayed in Winston-Salem on the way to the beach and we stopped here for dinner. Everything was delish!! Good portion sizes, great service, and yummy margaritas. Will definitely be back if we are in town again.
I went to Twisted Pine for the first time to catch up with a friend. Pros: The location is in the perfect location and walking distance to everything downtown and on a happening street with abundant outdoor and indoor seating. I loved the casual but elevated ambiance of the restaurant. I went on a Wednesday evening and it was pretty busy during dinner time. They have daily specials on weekdays. The service was also pretty quick! This chicken fajita wrap was also decent. Cons: the Brussels sprouts were overdone and pretty charred. The food was pretty good but nothing special, and honestly the portions did not meet the price. I felt like I was still a little hungry even after I left. Would I go back? Given how expensive it was compared to the amount of food you get and that the food was nothing special, I'd only go back if maybe a group of friends wanted to come here because the ambiance is so great.
Service was solid and friendly. The ambience is fine. It is loud on a Saturday night. The food was a disappointment. I had a burger and fries which seemed like they had been sitting out a while. The margarita was good-appreciate the blackberry purée.
The tacos were okay. For the price, I expected more flavor, there is hot sauce but they dont carry the traditional green or red sauce eaten with tacos. We got greeted right away but it took them around 40 minutes to serve us what we ordered and one drink. I ordered 1 order of tacos which came with 3 shrimp tacos, side brussel spouts and one drink.
Lots of great food and service in downtown Winston Salem this past weekend. Mackenzie at Twisted Pine (very nice and attentive): House Margaritas with salt and Tahin rims, Hot Honey Chicken sandwich with waffle fries, The Patty Melt with sweet potato waffle fries and we took home two Country Cobb Salads. We sat outside and we were lucky to get a parking space in their shared lot.
I'm a little torn at this rating the place is very nice well laid out nice and clean, and bright. The 2 bartenders our servers were very good attentive and helpful. My wife had shrimp tacos which she said were very good. I had the Birria this is where my disappoint come in very blah Birria under seasoned. Plenty of food, brushes are great. I do prefer some spice and heat in my Birria.
They've been on my list to try for a while now, but on my first occasion stopping in on a stroll I was turned off by those prices. You can see for yourself on the menu I posted, the prices are obscene. I know prices are crazy everywhere but find a way to get these prices down. $17 for fried chicken and mac and cheese on a taco is wild. Prices on the smash burgers are also unacceptable for me. I ended up getting a beer on tap and leaving. If I hear the prices come down to earth, maybe I'll give another try to eat. I did like the vibe inside, and the server behind the bar was fast and friendly - at least as fast and friendly as you can be to serve someone a beer and a menu, I guess.

How does this place not have 5 full stars?! Wonderful service, great food, and phenomenal drinks. We had so much food hahahaha, even went back two days later. I love this place and would take others. read more
Twisted Pine is a restaurant and bar in downtown Winston-Salem off of N Liberty Street. Great place to grab a drink and some food to watch sports or hand with friends. The atmosphere is great but food and service were disappointing. We came on a slow weekday and were seated right away but there were long waits for our drinks and food. The smokiness of the smoked chicken in the Fomo taco was overpowering, sweet potato fries were undercooked, and regular fries were cold. Recommend ordering a burger or sandwich instead of the tacos. read more

GREAT new spot!! Crafted 2.0 but with more variety and a chef's kiss. In the old crafted location, twisted pine is actually a similar concept - the (not so classic) combo of tacos and burgers. The menu has quite a bit of variety and something for everyone. The atmosphere is slightly dark/punk but elevated and casual. None of my friends ordered a burger but the food we did get was VERY good. Our server was SO cute, awesome and helpful in that she was honest about her favorite menu items and didn't steer us wrong. DRINKS: the Michelada was very delicious and HUGE (great deal for $6). Margarita was very good and classic. FOOD: The cheese curds and the Birria tacos were definitely the highlights. The cheese curds come with chipotle ranch that added such a nice kick to the curds definitely a great order. All the tacos were very good. Birria tacos were a highlight and the Fumo were decent. The chicken in the fumo tacos was soft but not very flavorful. The Fumo tacos needed something acidic and I ended up adding pico to them. As for sides, the hash browns were pretty average. The waffle fries were great and the salad was fresh. I got the lime vinaigrette which was delightfully tangy and not heavy (would buy that in a grocery honestly). Would absolutely go back! It's so nice to see this space revived and bustling with happy faces again read more
This was our first time here and we were pleasantly surprised, it's a cool little spot that is decorated very modernly. We were sat quickly and seen to just as quick. We started with some ice cold amber oak beers and the cheese curds. I cannot say enough about the cheese curds, they were absolutely amazing and we destroyed them super quick. We then got the smoked bologna sandwich and the little cardinal smash burger, both were really good. However, I was instantly jealous of my husband's bologna sandwich, that was super super delicious! We will definitely be going back! read more

This place is fun!! We were in the mood for something filling, but didn't want just basic bar food. Well, we picked the right place. I should have timed myself because I'm pretty sure I ate my "The Young Cardinal" burger in record time. It was loaded with cheese, mayo, bacon, and hash browns. On top of that, it had the most perfectly cooked egg that wasn't runny and messy, but also didn't dry your mouth out like the Sahara when you bit into it. They serve their sweet potato fries with honey mustard (as they should always be). My boyfriend got the hot honey chicken and it was fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It had a little kick to it, but the honey mellowed it out perfectly. The food came up super quick and the bartender was such a delight. They have margarita mondays, draft beer specials on Tuesday, half price wine on Wednesday, and cheap beer cans/bottles on Thursday. I was told the Birria tacos are where it's at, so I'll try that and the shishito peppers next time! read more

Came across the Twisted Pine as we were driving through downtown Winston looking for a bite. The location is in the old Crafted Taco spot. The restaurant seems still relatively newish I feel as there weren't a ton of people and the staff seemed to still be getting used to the menu. The service was okay for the most part, felt we got forgotten about at times. The food was mostly good, tacos were good and had a good flavor to them. The chicken sandwich was really good and the star of the meal for us. Drinks were tasty. The issue I ran into was we ordered the key lime torte, it was date night without the kid and I'm always up for a good key lime. The dessert we ended up getting had hair in it. Manager was nice about it but definitely gave me the lookover to see if it was my hair, I shave my head and have a short beard with my wife being blonde, it definitely wasn't from us. So they comped the dessert after I'd half eaten it to find the hair inside the key lime mix. May give it another shot later down the road after they work out the kinks, but gonna have to see on this one. read more

Me and my boyfriend stopped in for lunch this past weekend and were blown away by how good everything was! The restaurant itself is modern and has indoor/outdoor seating. The hostess and server were super nice and service was great. We started with the smoked street corn and chorizo dip. It was very cheesy and packed with flavor. We split the Birria tacos which come with a side and we tried the spicy chilled lo mein. The meat on the tacos was tender and flavorful. The tortillas were a little crispy and that with the cheese really made these super yummy. The lo mein was a bit of a nice surprise at how good it was! I wouldn't say it was very spicy but it did have a nice flavor. We also split a fried chicken sandwich and it was one of the best I've had! The chicken was cooked perfectly, it was juicy and the bacon was nice and crisp. The best part was the jalapeño pimento cheese. It added a creamy and spicy element which complimented the chicken and bacon so well! We also got a side of the Mac and cheese which was also cheesy and delicious. This was a lot of food for two people and somehow we managed to eat it all (probably because it was so good). read more

Where do I even begin... WOW. We have been here several times. Let's start with the host and wait staff. The host was extremely helpful and warm when he greeted us. Our server, David, has been our server every time. I'm not sure how lucky we were to get this delight. He is passionate about their food and his customers. He recommended the Mushroom Punch burger- HANDS DOWN THE BEST BURGER I have ever had. There was melty cheese, chopped sautéed mushrooms and onions, truffle aioli, and 2 perfectly cooked smash burgers. Every bite made me crave the next. This was the first burger I was literally sad when I was done eating. It's served with waffle fries seasoned with simple salt and pepper. The beer is delicious and cold. If you haven't had this burger, you haven't lived. read more

Came here for date night on a Friday - no wait, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Got the $20 margarita flight special and cheese curds to start us off. Both amazing. We were really looking forward to the burgers because this is supposed to be a smash burger and taco place. But both of us were disappointed in our burgers - the texture was weird almost like they had been previously frozen? And super super salty. Fries were great though along with homemade sauces. Overall I would definitely come back, but try the tacos instead! read more

I really enjoyed this new spot in town! The atmosphere was calm and there was no wait to be seated. The whole menu had delicious choices. Though it was hard to decide, I landed on the El Guapo smashburger and was happy with it. I especially liked the queso and chorizo flavors in it. However, I would prefer thinner burger patties since it was a smash burger. The star of the show though was the caramelized onion soup, featuring crispy Brussels sprouts and bacon, which was recommend as the soup of the day by the server. Our server was excellent! They were so kind and friendly, checking in from tjme to time without being intrusive. Though I neglected to get a photo of the drink menu, I'm especially eager to get back and try some cocktails as literally every single one sounded great. I'll be back soon and crossing my fingers for that soup to be on special again! I can't wait to see more from this new place! read more

Service was great. Really enjoyed the tacos. The group shared the tacos and everyone thought the shrimp tacos were the best. The side we tried were shishitos and they were ok, but not a ton of flavor. We ordered the chorizo and queso dip and it was good, but not enough chips to eat the dip and they charged for extra chips. read more
