Came on a Sunday , and to a surprise they have happy hour everyday. We had a big group , 16. We had our own private table, conveniently! Everyone was happy with their drinks or beers. I got a dirty martini , not bad for happy hour. $10. I'll stick with draft pours next time. All enjoyed their meals. Service was great. The waitress was OK with multiple separate checks. Bathrooms were clean. Overall very good. Would definitely return.

    Twisted Oak Burger: medium rare

Twisted Oak is in Old Town Camarillo in a historic building that used to house a long established, local department store that dominated the commercial scene just like Webb's Department Store in downtown Glendale which for decades kept out major department stores until finally J.W. Robinson managed to slip in. Inside is cavernous with padded booths, long, communal Stamtisch, standard tables & chairs, long bar seating which is dominated by wide screen TV's spouting out sports programming. It's a stereotypical Gastropub with standard New American grub of the first quarter of the 21st century. Jona was our friendly, laid back waiter who would check on us for any other thing needed and could give us separate checks, no problem. 1) Roasted Brussels Sprouts: Blackened Sprouts were tough, fibrous, hard. My sharp knife could barely cut through unless I bore down hard. The high oven heat blackened the outer leaves, but left the inside almost uncooked. Strangely acidic with a bit of funky earthiness. Sweet diced sweet dates, bacony Pancetta, topped with slivered almonds. Bit of chile piquancy. Perhaps sautéing the Brussels Sprouts would cook the sprouts more evenly and thoroughly to soften the toughness and still leave it al dente. A more mild Japanese vinegar would give a cleaner, purer finish. 2) Twisted Oak Burger: Shiny, golden brown Brioche buns. Crisscrossed bacon strips that weren't overcooked to a brittle hardness. Requested Medium rare beef; patty was a dusky rose. Onions sautéed with beer; arrugula was missing in action. Blue cheese was timidly faint. Garlic Aïoli (ah ee oh lee) saved this burger from blandness. I added on Avocado for more healthful oils. Ordered the French fries crispy. They were, but not exceptionally impressive. 1-2a) Oso Rojo: Amber beer, toasty, acidic, softly sweet, refreshingly bitter, burnt grain, bit soapy. 3) Donut Bread Pudding: Rum Donuts, Bourbon caramel sauce, dusting of crushed walnuts, vanilla ice cream à la mode, couldn't find the chocolate chips. Comforting, starchy, sweet dessert. Except for the salads, the food here seems to cater to those who do not like veggies. The food leans toward high carb, sugar, fats, meat. After eating here I felt heavy, overly full, dull, and lethargic with even a touch of heartburn. Prices are very comparable to what is found in high priced Los Ángeles. 3 stars

This was great. We were contemplating on dinner and this came up. It was great they had good drink selection and good service. It wasn't busy very much. One of the 2 flaws is how long the wait for food was. We didn't wait too long but it was fine. The second is no kids menu. Our family was struggling to find an option for our picky child. But overall food was amazing and I would come back!

The beef dip and Buffalo Cauliflower were bomb!

What a nice find that I don't think I would've found without Yelp, but we were trying to find a dog friendly place with a good happy hour, and luckily we stumbled onto Twisted Oak! With a wide variety of deals but the French dip sandwich really sold it for me and a nice selection of beers, crispy fries, comforting beef and a not too salty au jus made this place come to life (along with the live music). Excited to be in the 805 community and discover local spots to set up roots (get it like Twisted Oak is a tree.....roots?) I'll see myself out until the next one!

3.4 stars- I want to be fair - CSUCI Grad weekend :/ Very slow service. It took such a long time to just get to order our food then to get the food .. all together over two hours. I understand, I get it sometimes people call out but this was bad. Very bad. It's a big restaurant and it was not packed from what I could see. They had live music ! A plus! I just felt like they kept saying sorry but didn't truly care because they'd say ... "We have a few graduations." Then forget about us. We should've left as we weren't really tended to. We were so patient. After all the waiting they wanted to charge $1 per person to cut the cake brought for our grad. Our own plates and utensils were brought. We didn't need staff to cut it as a Bundt and pretty easy to do by us. It's a cool place, very spacious with tons of seating but definitely understaffed. It is locally owned , so I do not want to be too rough with my review. Food was ok. I just had nachos and two beers. The beers were super cold which is a plus. My friends liked their meals. I'd return in the future and update my review if I have a better experience :) An automatic 18% gratuity is added despite the level of service for large groups. Please be aware and understand that service charge.

A group of 14 looking for a spot to have a celebration dinner and conversation. Twisted Oak was the perfect spot. They held the back room for us - fairly private and fairly quiet. I ordered the mushroom flatbread ($16). My wife got the forager burger ($18.50). Both were delish! Despite being a large group, Julie, our server, got all the orders correct. Our water glasses were kept full. Service was excellent.

    Thick Cut Reuben Sandwich

My Fiance found this place on a trip up north. Glad we stopped by. That thick cut rueben sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Messy but really tasty. She got the PB and J burger and she really liked it. The flatbread was also good. Nice combination of flavors with the flatbread. Will deftly be back here if i am in the Oxnard area

    Loaded Nachos

First time here, and I must say I had a pretty good experience. I met up with friends for food and drinks. The dining area is large and spacious, with ample seating at the long bar. This particular night they had live music by way of a guitarist singing a wide variety of songs, classic to modern with a country to old rock take of each song. It wasn't too loud, the music was tasteful, and the ambiance was relaxing. The service was fast and friendly, with our waitress seemingly being one of our party whenever she arrived. She did a great job reading the table and the need. She was never interrupting but rather added to the conversation. The loaded nachos were filling, coating my stomach like your typical bar food. They were neither soggy nor greasy, but rather crunch and tasty. This place lost points on the weirdly flavored creme brûlée that had strawberry Nesquick powder on top. The powder was unnecessary and left an oddly synthetic strawberry flavor. Most importantly for a bar is their decent beer selection. I got a flight of beers to sample 4 of their wide selection. They have a few beers of each type from local breweries. Overall it was a good time with good buddies. Well that's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating.

Saigon chicken wraps and fish n chips
    Andrea B.

Absolutely loved this place. Not sure why we waited so long to try it out. We had fish n chips, I loved the hand cut fries- and the coleslaw. I had the Saigon wraps- chicken and an amazing spicy peanut sauce. We also had the potato skins. Listen this place isn't fancy (not overly casual) but what they do, they're doing right. We will be regulars here now.

I don't think there's a bad seat in the house, but we always love to sit outside so that we have a really good view of the aircraft coming and going. I tried the BLT and, oh my!!! One of the best I've had, with lots of thick cut bacon, very crisp, lots of lettuce, tomato and mayo (I ordered it as-is). Half was the size of a regular sandwich so the other half went home with me! RRR ordered the triple decker club on sourdough and loved his as well. Half of his went home also. We both got the cole slaw as our side which has a little pineapple in it. I found it ok, RRR really liked it. We shared a special milkshake, pistachio, and it was heavenly, highly recommended. Service was perfect, there when needed but not overbearing. So this time I ordered a sandwich and I was not disappointed as this one was a decent size. It was really tasty, but I wish they also added a pickle on the side of the sandwiches too. Their salads are also really good along with the bread that comes with it. The ambiance was nice and the planes are not very loud, but there is a lot of people. Fried chicken spots. Everything in between. So when I tell you what happened here, know that I'm not some customer who doesn't understand how restaurants work. I know exactly how they work. My best friend lives in Camarillo and honey, he has been raving about this place for months. Every time someone comes to visit, he brings them here. He made our Mother's Day reservations well in advance. Our party of six. This man has easily dropped thousands of dollars in this restaurant. He loves this place. Loved. We arrived early. Server was ok. Seated us at 11, full house, two-hour window we understood the assignment. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Everything came out hot and fast. We're laughing, talking, having the best time and then I look down at my plate. There is a bug. Crawling. Through my eggs. My son grabbed his phone and got the picture. My husband God bless him, shot up to find a manager because that's what you do. That's what any reasonable person does. He found her. Her name is Cheryl. And Cheryl said... "You should've taken it up with the server." Strike one. Then she walks over to our table with an attitude and before I can even hand her my plate, she looks at me and says, "How do you want your eggs?" Like I'm supposed to take the same food back. The food with the bug in it. I was stunned. Not just by the question by the energy. It was off putting. She was annoyed. Like somehow WE were the problem. My kids were horrified. My best friend, the man who loves this restaurant was completely embarrassed. I asked to look at the menu. I wanted something different. Reasonable, right? We waited. The server came back, completely in the dark, said something like "I guess something was wrong with your food?" Sweet kid. Felt terrible when we filled him in. I said I'd just take a burger. He said of course they'd remove the chicken and waffles. THEN he came back. "We're going to have to charge you for the burger." WTH, I thought he had lost his entire mind. He disappeared again, came back, apologized I believe he genuinely felt bad. This has happened before when I have been a server and a manager is more than happy to offer you another dish and take off the other one. But Cheryl? The manager? Never came back. NOT once. Instead, she made her rounds to every single table AROUND us. Laughing. Greeting people. Interacting with guests. For 15 to 20 minutes, we sat there and watched her deliberately avoid our table. And that's when it hit me the thing I didn't want to think. I looked around. Really looked around. And we were the only ones. WELL, I was the only one who was African American woman. Me and my kids. My bestie and my hubby are of European descent. I don't SAY that lightly. Honestly? It makes me sick to even say it. But I couldn't find another explanation. Neither could my friend, who sat straight up in his chair and saw it too up close and personal. He was angry. I had to calm everyone down and say this wasn't worth it. I canceled the burger. We left. It was the worst Mother's Day I have ever had in my life. I have never been treated like this before. It's 2026. People have diverse families. What happened?! To the owner -- I'm hoping you're not her, and I'm hoping you read this. Your friend lost a loyal customer who brought everyone he knew through your doors. You lost our table, our money, and our trust the moment Cheryl decided we didn't matter. The moment she decided that she couldn't be bothered. I travel all around the world speaking, training and I have never been treated to poorly. I called hoping to speak to the OWNER. Cheryl called me back. Are you for real? She HAD a chance to make it right. But clearly she didn't care. She had every opportunity to make it right. She chose not to.

Save yourself the headache and eat somewhere else. -- We were told our wait would be approximately 15 minutes. It ended up being closer to 30. Once seated, things got even worse. We sat for roughly 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging our table and had to flag down two separate employees before we were assigned a server. Despite arriving over an hour before I needed to leave for a scheduled appointment, our food didn't arrive until approximately 11:35 AM. Spending over an hour at breakfast for a simple meal is unreasonable, especially at a resort restaurant where guests often have reservations and activities planned. Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the wait. The chicken sausage arrived room temperature, and my pancakes were raw in the middle. Not undercooked--raw. After waiting over an hour for breakfast, receiving food that wasn't properly prepared was incredibly disappointing. As if that weren't enough, the restaurant somehow managed to charge our credit card twice while also posting the charge to our room. Resolving the error became an ordeal of phone calls, receipt photos, waiting for managers, and multiple follow-ups. What should have been a simple correction ended up taking a significant amount of our vacation time. The most frustrating part wasn't even the mistakes themselves--it was the lack of urgency in fixing them. Nobody seemed particularly concerned that guests were waiting excessive amounts of time, receiving improperly prepared food, or dealing with billing errors.
