We recently tried Stephen's Grill in Camarillo and absolutely loved it! The service was wonderful--friendly, welcoming, and attentive--and the food was fresh and delicious. They have a great selection of Mediterranean dishes, a beautiful big bar with creative cocktails, and a really nice wine list. We have driven by the Stephen's Grill Ventura location a couple times but never stopped in. We were in Camarillo shopping and found their newest location , and as luck would have it today was their grand opening. The restaurant is lovely with a large bar, a bakery offering , and a lot of tables and booths. We were seated at a nice booth and our waitress Lindsey greeted us right away. She was very good. My wife ordered a glass of wine, and I had water and a soda. We were brought an appetizer plate with cheese and other yummy items compliments of the management since it was the grand opening . A nice touch. We started off with the Saganaki Flambé table side which was amazing. My wife ordered the Stuffed Tomato and Pepper, and I had the Ziti Forno W/ Ricotta. Both dishes came with a salad either Greek or Caesar. We chose one of each. They were both great although the Greek salad was a little better! Both of our meals were very large portions and very very good. At the end of our evening we were given a gift certificate for our next visit ( because it was the grand opening.) I'm going to start off by saying these people giving one star reviews to a new restaurant need to give them time and grace. We came in today (a Thursday around 5) we decided to sit at the bar and had a fantastic time. Our bartender gave great service and she was very friendly. Actually everyone we encountered was friendly. The restaurant is beautiful. I loved seeing the beautiful paintings on the walls. Now to the food! The meat dolmas with lemon sauce were delicious. I would get those over the regular rice ones. House Greek salad and dressing A+ The lamb, hummus, and tzatziki sauce on the gyro plate were great. I'd skip the fries next time and ask for rice. The chicken gyro plate was dry (great flavor but we wouldn't order that again) The margaritas were tasty and they offer non alcoholic wine! Yay for me! They also have happy hour pricing at the bar. This used to be the soup plantation, the inside layout is basically the same, some new colors, an alcohol bar where the salad bar used to be. They now have some murals depicting geographic areas in Greece . Added some blue Colors . I like the white linen table cloths. The staff was friendly and attentive. Initially I thought the prices were steep, but...they have to make a living. Also to he honest the portions are huge, so I was ok with the prices after seeing the portion sizes. This former Souplantation has been transformed into a Greek destination with large-scale murals, white tablecloths and a showcase bar. The cavernous space is perfect for large gatherings. Our server was pleasant and very attentive. My Greek salad was huge and beautiful. The gyro meat was hot but not overdone. Tzatziki was one of the best I've ever had. My friend's falafel plate was equally beautiful with fries, pita, tahini, hummus and tzatziki, served with her own Greek salad. She commented that the falafel were a bit dry. Bonnie and went to Stephen's Grill in Camarillo yesterday around 4:30 in the afternoon and Sat at the bar. The restaurant has lots of full and half booths and there are live plants and flowers, and the walls are decorated with murals of Mediterranean landscapes. Our bartender Jenny was fantastic and made our drinks to perfection. I really liked their glasses, Bonnie had a pomegranate martini, and I had my standard dirty martini. Now for the food. we are familiar with the location in Ventura, and the Camarillo location has what they serve and more. The Camarillo location has more emphasis on the Grill section of their menu. We ordered the Dolmades with meat; the picture we uploaded of them was after we had eaten half of it. The reason I mention that is because it had plenty of Pita bread and Tzatziki sauce served with the Dolmades and there were 6 of them. They were perfect, we loved the lemon dill sauce. We also ordered the Lucas Special which comes with Chicken Souvlaki, Gyro meat and your choice of side and a Greek salad or soup. The Chicken was cooked perfectly and so was the Gyro meat. I like the Chef Kazo sauce that was served with the souvlaki. The traditional souvlaki is olive oil, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic, Greek oregano and lemon. I think he just added smoked paprika to that and maybe a little red wine vinegar. You don't normally see a red souvlaki. We also ordered the Moussaka, which is kind of a Greek lasagna with eggplant substituted for pasta. It was very good and authentic; they nailed the bechamel sauce (white) and the Kima me domata sauce (red) was very flavorful. The portions were huge and we took enough home for another meal. We are so happy they finally opened and we plan on spending lots of time with Jenny at the bar. read more

For a newly opened restaurant in Camarillo, this place was operating pretty smooth on Mother's Day. They did not have my reservation for 6 even though I made it via phone a week beforehand. But we were quickly taken care of and the manager put a table together for us. For Sunday, brunch buffet is the only option. I liked the selection of food because it allowed us to sample many brunch items for $30, but the $30 price tag is steep if you have children that don't eat much (no children price) and drinks were not included (except for water and coffee). The ambiance is higher end restaurant with wine glasses on every table, but it stilled felt like the old Souplantation inside due to a lot of noise in an open dining room concept. The buffet area was also very small and cramped, despite its many offerings. We probably won't return to Sunday Brunch since our daughters won't enjoy it much and plan to visit again for lunch or dinner to experience their normal menu. read more

We stopped by this new Greek restaurant on their opening day. The food did take a little longer than expected, but that's understandable for day one while they're getting into the flow. The food was really good, and flavorful, and definitely worth the wait. I'm so glad we finally have a great Greek spot nearby and don't have to drive all the way to Ventura anymore. The restaurant is beautiful and has a really welcoming feel. I've seen some negative reviews, but I'd encourage people to give them a chance and a little time. We just went to Stephen's in Camarillo for the first time for dinner. I love the one in Ventura so I really wanted to go for dinner. We got the poached salmon and chicken souvlaki. Everything was really good and fresh. Really fresh veggies and my parents who are not adventurous eaters loved it. Kitchen was a little slow but it was a weird time so I'm sure that's why. Despite the restaurant seeming to be slow it took 20 to 30 minutes it receive fountain drinks and even more considerable amount of time to receive our food and when it did arrive the shrimp on one of the plates was still raw. The service itself is just fine but unfortunately it seems like our server was scrambling while what appeared to be the owners just continued to stroll around and talk to tables. Definitely think the staff could use some more help. Owners definitely need to change something at this spot, I was excited to hear about a Greek spot opening up in the neighborhood but this didn't hit the mark. I wanted to love this place! I am very familiar with Greek food! My husband and I ordered Calamari and Spanakopita to start - both were excellent! For mains we ordered the bacon- wrapped shrimp (stuffed with feta and jalapeño's) and a special sauce. Very sad to say the four very small wrapped shrimp looked and tasted as if they were straight from a freezer section at any supermarket and were dry as a bone, with not even a hint of feta or jalapeños in them. The special sauce which accompanied the shrimp was exactly like Trader Joe's Sweet chili sauce! I am sorry, but I am just being honest. My husband had Branzino with roasted potatoes. We have had this dish many times before in other establishments, to say this was sub-par is an understatement! Both the fish and the potatoes were dry and tasteless. The staff are wonderful.....this beautiful new restaurant will not survive if they don't kick their food up a notch. We will go back for another try, because we want them to succeed and we need variety in Camarillo! read more

We arrived last night at 9:15 pm thinking that they closed at 11:00 pm, they ignored us at the entrance, we thought we should go inside, the waitress Christie, then stopped us, and with a cold attitude told us that we should order immediately because the kitchen closed in 10 minutes. We asked about the schedule, but he said that we could only sit at the bar, that the dining area was already closed. The truth is, it was very annoying, we were celebrating our 10-year wedding anniversary and we wanted a special dinner, we understand the weather, but I think that in 45 minutes we would have had a good time to enjoy dinner at a normal table. I've been anticipating to try this new restaurant for a while. I was very excited to finally have had the opportunity today to go however; upon entering the restaurant I was immediately stopped by a employee named Nick . He was informing me that my service animal would not be permitted into the restaurant. This employee was extremely rude and hostile. I showed him my service animal card that I carry with me and he then stated " that isn't enough" He demanded I show him my medical documentation and any other document that would qualify me to have a service animal which is already against the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). I verbally told Nick I was going to report him and this business and will make sure to let anyone who has a disability with a service animal aware of this restaurant and it's discriminatory behavior towards people with disabilities who have service animals. This employee Nick stated" Go ahead I don't care". I have been to high class restaurants, Taco Bell ect and never have I been discriminated against by anyone or anyplace until now. I definitely do NOT recommend this place. I would like to give an update since it took the business owner Greg 21 days to reply. After reading your response I would have been more than willing to sit down with you in regards to this serious matter that took place. However; after reviewing your profile picture I have come to the realization that you Greg "the business owner " was the one who discriminated against me and my service animal. I have no understanding as to why you have carried on this facade of " Nick" instead of just being an honest, decent person. You decided to lie and deceive not only me, but other people who are and will read this post. You discriminated not only against me and my service animal, you discriminated against my disability. Great food! Hd the grilled pork chop, excellent marinade, juicy & nicely charred on the grill. The roasted potatoes were a great counterpoint to the chop, soaking up the juices fr the chop.
