I've always heard that you should NEVER go to a restaurant that just opened, but when this is Stephens second location, and I enjoy Greek food, so I stopped in on my way from home from work and ordered 2 gyros to take home for dinner. The interior of the place is gorgeous, but I did wonder why there were pictures on the wall of an Italian restaurant? The drive home was less than 5 minutes, and I was shocked at the horrible quality of the food! For $22 - the fries were SOGGY and cold, the Gyro was wrapped in tin foil, looked like a small burrito - the lamb slices, what there were of them... maybe 3 or 4 were COLD and lacked any kind of seasoning. The pita smelled of preservatives so I knew it wasn't freshly made and also very small and soggy. Maybe in time the quality will improve, but for my money there are much better choices in Camarillo including the one inside the Village Mark located on Las Posas. read more

We have loved Stephen's in Ventura for years. So excited to have them in Camarillo! Well. Not. Higher prices, smaller portions: $17 for a (small!) child's plate of macaroni and cheese. No side veggies, no fries or chips, no drink. Outrageous! $27 for a Chicken Gyro Plate. Smaller than an appetizer plate, but twice the price! Tomatoes and lettuce tasteless with a few Greek olives and a small amount of Feta cheese. My friend gave me a few falafels to try that were hard as rocks. Service, horrendous. I went to Stephens Grill for lunch. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was good. My suggestion is that they create a lunch menu with more than just gyros and other sandwiches and salads. I ordered the moussaka which was a large portion served over quartered potatoes. I think that they could have left off the potatoes as the moussaka was enough on its own. A small Greek salad was served with the meal. I found it interesting that pita bread was extra, which when I have dined at other Greek restaurants the pita bread came with the meal. As it turned out I spent $40 including tip and an iced tea for lunch. read more

Great service, well staffed and very fresh and plentiful food. Salads were crisp and cold and portion size of the entrees very generous. My only suggestion would be to add signage to the exterior back wall of this restaurant - this is the approach/entry to Home Depot and I must have driven up that section of road a hundred times and never realized this restaurant even existed until I ended up going the long way around out of Target and stumbled across it! I decided to try this new Greek Mediterranean restaurant in Camarillo. The restaurant is beautiful and quite large with great staff. The side salad was good and fresh; the salad dressing was fair The falafel sandwich was terrible, as the falafel were hard and dry and tasteless, but the fries were very good. I told the server Christie that I couldn't eat the pita sandwich and why and she gave me a $10 certificate for next time. I might try it again, but not sure. Don't go. It's that simple. Just don't go. The servers are all nice, and well-intentioned. But, that's all that is decent. The food is very average, and of moderate basic quality, and generally overcooked. When we then asked why the prices are so high (almost double of what they should be), we were told that the owner (Gregorios / Gregory / Greg) only uses the best ingredients. We later learned that is just what "Greg" told the servers to say. Bottomline: the food is grossly overpriced, and of only (below) average quality. The serves also have no idea what the foods taste like, or what the ingredients are. Even as simple as should the pita be served cold, hot, or grilled? They have no idea. They've never been offered the chance to taste the food, so they can discuss it with customers. On many/most dishes there is a "chef's sauce". We asked what it tastes like. The servers had no idea. And, when we asked about contents (for allergies), they were told to tell us that it is a bunch of chef's secret ingredients. (Golly, I sure hope the chef knew to not include any of our allergic items in there.) The owner says they've all been trained for 2 weeks. Every of the 4 servers we talked to, all said that they've been there for 2 days, and got ZERO training. When we commented about this problem, the owner/"Greg" threw them under the bus. He first blamed ALL the problems on HIS staff - - "they lied on their applications, and had no experience." (Altho he says he trained them all for 2 weeks.). Then he said that they were all alcoholics. Then he said that they were all drug addicts. Literally. (And, every of the 4 servers that we talked to seemed quite nice, sincere, and somewhat embarrassed to be working for such an ass.) At NO POINT did he, the owner, ever admit to being responsible for ANY of the problems - - poor quality, overcooked, slow service, uninformed servers. Seemingly a nice guy, but totally the wrong attitude - - accepted NO responsibility, and then blamed HIS staff. If they offered a next meal for free, we wouldn't go back. What's the point? (Oh, and he claims his meat is gluten-free. I think McDonalds meat is also gluten-free. Does that mean that he gets his meat from McDonalds . . . but charges over $60 for a steak (at this semi-fast-food restaurant, that is still set up like the Souplantation that it used to be, just with tablecloths now)? read more

Don't listen the reviews saying the food wasn't great, yes the portions are larger but it is worth the money, everything is expensive now. Came here today for brunch on Mother's Day, and it was beyond delicious, especially for the price. Everything we had was exceptional. I started with some sides like the creamy green pasta, shrimp cocktail, lox on a baguette, sautéed carrots, and a zucchini dish that I couldn't get enough of. Then you meet Javier, who greets you with a smile and carves the best prime rib, complete with au jus. There's also a build your own Greek salad station, several soups (the lentil was my favorite), the crispiest bacon I've ever had, flavorful sausages, and perfectly seasoned potatoes. Another table featured eggs Benedict, different egg scrambles, and Pastitsio. A Greek style lasagna that was surprisingly light and absolutely delicious. And of course, you can't forget the pastry table at the end. Everything looked amazing and tasted just as good. What really stood out was the atmosphere and service. Our server, Lindsey, was incredibly nice, and honestly, everyone we encountered was welcoming. One of the managers, John, was greeting guests and shaking hands, which made the experience feel extra personal. Before leaving, we took some baklava to go, and it was hands down the best baklava I've ever had. On the first bite, the honey drips perfectly into the crispy filo dough without being overly sweet, and the flavors finish with this rich pistachio bite at the end. I would absolutely buy that again. Doesn't seem like the cooks have a handle on how to prepare Greek cuisine yet, the lamb burger had too much bread that was hard with too much sauce added to overcompensate. the lamb itself was over cooked. "Avgolemeno "soup was Campbell's Chicken and rice poured in a bowl. The Saganaki was served cold and hard. The house red was cheap and vinegary . The prices for all of this would have been high even if the food was excellent, but it was all terrible. Very unhappy with our experience and will not return again. The ambiance was fair, wrong music in the background, too much lighting, but everything was nice and clean as it should be with very little customer flow. Desserts were not the price, I can buy better tiramisu at the grocery store, the restaurants had very little flavor in a very small piece that costs $14. I do not recommend anyone to go there. Service staff needs more training. For authentic and delicious Greek food it's worth the drive to ventura. read more

My husband and I just went to Stephen's Grill in Camarillo. We arrived about 6 and didn't have a problem getting a table . They take reservations for parties over 6 . I had a gin martini and my husband had a double gin and tonic . Our waitress , who also bartends , Christi , was very attentive and accommodating. Both drinks were very good . We ate the Dolmades with ground lamb appetizer and it was very delicious accompanied with a gravy type sauce and Chef Kazo's special sauce. I could easily serve 3 people generously. My husband had the rack of lamb with Greek rice and I had the grilled lamb chops with roasted potatoes. Both dishes were very yummy . Our dinners also came with a choice of Greek salad or Caesar salad. I had the Greek salad and my husband had the Caesar . We ordered a bottle of the Crossbarn Pinot noir from the Sonoma Valley . It tasted great with our food .The lettuces were very crisp and the salads were unusually plentiful for a dinner salad. We ended the meal with their Baklava, which their Chef Kazo made . It was so yummy and portioned enough for 2 people . We went home full, satisfied, and with leftovers . We will definitely be coming back . read more

Being a transplant from New England where we eat a lot of lamb, it was so great to have lamb dishes on any menu! I had the lammb kabobs...they were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Roast lamb is also on the menu They came with roasted potatoes...also wonderfully seasoned and delicious, and a side of Greek or Cesar salad. We also had a Gyro plate that came with fries nd a Greek salad. shared some dolmas too. Everything was delicious and very large portions. I took home half of my kabobs and potatoes for dinner. the staff was friendly and really nice. The baby eats what we eat and there was plenty! The restaurant is large and well done. I m so happy to have this restaurant in Camarillo! They ALSO Italien dishes available. The glass of wine was a very generous pour and excellent. I am a foodie, and I can't wait to go back. read more

If I could give less I would. The quality of the food and the service were just awful. The gyro plate came out and all four of us had to return the meal because the meat was petrified tree bark. It looked and felt like really hardened beef jerky. They took all the plates back to the kitchen then brought them back out and eventually serving fresh side plates of new meat that was an improvement. Nonetheless, the fact they would even try to pass off the original meals to us is a sign of poor judgement and cheapness. The other two at our table had lamb and chicken complained of dry, unflavorful food. Very little pita was included in the meal. The waiter said the owner would not split our meals so we could pay separately because he did not want to pay the credit card fees. The least expensive meal we ordered for lunch was $24. Not an inexpensive restaurant. This place is out of business in six months or less. read more
