Dear God, how does this place have 3 and half stars overall. It is f***ing abysmal. My wife and I came expecting at least a decent experience, but were somewhat saddened to find a crappy restaurant in a nasty strip mall. The decor is somewhat awful and the service was some of the slowest I have ever experienced. Anywhere. By the end of the meal we were strategically planning how we were going to obtain the next piece of service...ie: "Ok, when they deliver our food you have to IMMEDIATELY ask for the check because you are never going to see the waiter again." We weren't even asked about drink orders on sitting down. I ordered "extra spicy" curry only to find that it was about a 1 on the spicy scale of 1 to 10. Lame. Also my potatoes weren't fully cooked and they seemed to take more time cutting squigglies into the side of my vegetables than actually cooking them. I also had shockingly bad veggie rolls which tasted like I was chewing on a mixture of tree bark and rubber. By the time we left we were in a bad mood and still hungry 'cause the portions are small. Also it ended up being about 40 bucks for two people. Ridiculous for the service and the quality of food. Needless to say, we will not ever be going back. I guess my only conclusion about why this place has 3 and half stars is that nobody in Durham is at all familiar with good Asian food. What I can't explain is how it has 3 and a half stars in light of the service, which was awful by any standard. Management needs to get it together and realize that you can't have one waiter on a Saturday night for a restaurant full of busy people. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I brought 2 friends to Twisted Noodle for lunch. I had the pad thai with chicken and vegetables. It was good but the portions were small.Adding a bit more to the plate would have been nice. They ordered the ginger and tofu. The hot spring rolls with dipping sauce was excellent. It came with a piece of lettuce and shedded carrot (nice presentation). Great spot for lunch. I would replace lunch menu with better photos. They are yellowed out and you can't tell what the specials look like. Great service and pleasant decor. Love the salt water fish tank! read more

Thai tea was just lovely! Service was quality..did not constantly bother you but was on top of things. I sampled the beef broth of the soup my sister had and wow! Very tasty! I cannot remember what dish I had but was some sort of pho... I used the four relish type condiments they provided and loved them all! Was not as hell-fire hot as I was afraid they would be and provided great flavor and heat at varying levels.. Will be back! read more

I've really enjoyed the food from Twisted Noodles in Durham. Note that their website is listed correctly on Yelp, but when you google the restaurant the first results bring you to a different site - the restaurant in Durham is no longer directly affiliated with the CH restaurant, from what I understand. On the correct website the prices are also correct (another reviewer noted incorrect prices). Portions/prices seem fair. The owner/manager has been very friendly when I've gone for takeout, though I would be happy dining in as well, it's a comfortable atmosphere. The fried rice is incredible, the phrik khing is delicious, and the dumplings are great as well. Oddly, the pad thai is only OK - not good news for those use pad thai as an initial screening test for a Thai restaurant (like I often do). read more

I am a regular here, and my typical order is the Drunken Noodles with beef. SO GOOD!! There are typically not that many people there on weeknights, but on weekends, it is a very popular place! The only reason that I'm giving them 4 stars is that when they get busy, they get very overwhelmed and forget to check in with the people waiting at the front. I have waited 30minutes at the front to pick up my to-go order before without anyone asking if they could help me! That is typically not the case though. The food is spot on! read more

I am quite a snob when it comes to Thai food and this place did not let down. I ordered to go the Pad Thai shrimp which was delicious. The noodles were soft and warm and full of flavor. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. I ate the whole plate! Would definitely recommend. read more

Solid neighborhood Thai place--dine in or take out. I've had a variety of their entrees and nothing to go out of the way for, but perfect to satisfy a Thai craving. They also cater events and have been extremely helpful when I've used them for large group platters of food! Really nice in terms of helping me carry things to the car, including cutlery, etc. read more

You would never know it to look at the outside, but this is some of the best Thai food I have ever had! I was in Durham visiting family and I am so glad we went here. We all got different dishes and each tried everyone else's. There was not a bad bite to be had. Food was great, excellent service and fair prices. I will be back next time I am in town and make it a priority to get here to eat. read more

This was the first Thai place we tried when we got to Durham and we definitely weren't disappointed. We went for dinner and it was a little overpriced so I would recommend going for lunch. It wasn't the best, but we were really craving Thai and it satisfied our craving. The waitress was also very nice which was a plus. read more

I live right down the street and I heard a lot of good things about this place. I came in with a friend and we got the duck udon and the red curry. Both were really good. It wasn't mind blowing but some of the better Thai food around. I will definitely be coming back for more soon! read more

Oh my slow! Allow for extra time if you're doing lunch here. But they're courteous enough that it's not insulting. I've been here a handful of times, so it's one of those things where i can tolerate the slow service for the price - which is very reasonable for lunch! the food is acceptable enough as well. I almost always get pad thai - it's just my go to in all situations like these. and it's always been to my liking - hot and spicy cause i add way too much sriracha to it. the spring rolls aren't the best, so i've moved away from that as a side selection. and their tom yum soup is blah - i have to agree with susan on this one. i've had MUCH better. overall this place is a two star in reality for me, but because i keep going back, i have to give it a 3. it's in a good location and the prices for lunch are hard to beat for the amount of food you get - i'm usually full enough from lunch to eat a really late dinner. read more

the other day we ate at saladelia. i saw twisted noodle across the parking lot and thought "what the hell is a twisted noodle?" i immediately thought it was going to be an italian restaurant. wrong! it turned out to be thai food and i love thai food. not only that, i couldn't believe that yet another thai restaurant had opened in durham (thai has been lacking here for so long). overall, i liked the food at twisted noodle and would like to go back to try more items. i would not recommend ordering the sweet and sour tofu, it had too much of a tomato taste and not enough sweet or sour. the panang curry with tofu and pad see eww were spciy and pretty standard. i enjoyed the flavors a bit more than thai cafe. however, i am only giving twisted noodles three stars because when we walked into the place, there were so many empty tables littered with plates and trash from earlier meals (we were seated at a clean table). these tables continued to stay dirty until we left; who knows for how long. i found this a little irritating. it bothers me when a place doesn't not have enough wait staff or bus boys to keep up with the numbers they are serving. if twisted noodle cleans up it's act the next time i go, i might bump it to 4 stars. read more

The service here has consistently been very slow (whether you're one of two tables in the restaurant, or it's a packed house, it takes a while for the server to finally take your order, drink refills are rare, and getting the check is sometimes a chore), but we just plan for that and aren't bothered by it now. They have the most perfect pad see ew, here. It is so full of fresh wide rice noodles and juicy chicken, along with just the right amount of sauce. Inexpensive, too, and they give you tons of food - I have leftovers for days. Yum! Definitely my favorite spot for my Thai food fix. read more

My husband and I go to this restaurant five times as often as we go to any other restaurant in Durham. It is fantastic. But you have to know what to get, and this is what we enjoy: Thai Iced Tea, Yellow Curry Noodle Soup (I ask for rice noodles in place of egg noodles) with tofu, Chili Oil Noodle Soup (both summer style and not) with tofu, and Roasted Duck noodle soup (both summer style and not). Their spring rolls are nice and crispy. The waiters are neither friendly nor unfriendly, but the service is skilled, and there is a very nice aquarium and a Buddha statue to stare at while you eat. The atmosphere is quite soothing, and the food is insanely addictive and comforting. It is around the corner from a movie theater if you want to do dinner and a movie, as we so often do. read more

Fabulous food!! Everyone we ordered was absolutely delicious. From summer roll appetizers to curries and noodles with roasted duck were beyond expectations. Dessert was sweet sticky rice with coconut sauce and fresh mango. We sat near the fish tank and enjoyed watching the brightly colored fish. Great evening! read more

Perfectly adequate thai food. Noodle, spice, meat quality all just fine. The spice level wasn't as spicy as we're used to (we got medium on our yellow curry and pad see ew and had to add spice). We'd give the food and the service 4 stars, but the facility itself was sort of disorganized with decorations seemingly strewn about. Mostly though, we were displeased with our appetizer. Good Thai food but questionable service. We recently dined there and decided to take advantage of Yelp's free appetizer with check-in option. When we asked to redeem it, our server told us that we could only get an appetizer that did not contain. This was probably because all the meatless appetizers are cheaper than most. Twisted Noodles has become my gold standard for all Thai restaurants, and I'm consistently disappointed when others can't live up to it, especially since I've recently moved away from Durham. We usually stick with noodles (drunken noodles or glass noodles), which are excellent, veggie-filled, and customized to your desired level of spice. I've also had some of the curries, which are also good. The servers are all helpful and nice, and usually the restaurant isn't very busy. read more

I have been subjected to several bland, watery pad thai dishes over the last few months, but this one at Twisted Noodles HIT THE SPOT. The pad thai sauce was flavorful and clung to the noodles. It was just a good standard pad thai. My friend said that her noodle soup was a little bland, but I can't vouch for that. I have enjoyed a few other dishes here as well. Very impressed with Twisted Noodles. Just stopped in to order to-go; all of the staff were super nice and even got me a glass of water while I waited. Ordered: veggie rolls and tofu massaman curry. A pretty plain, unadorned above-average Thai place that's a short drive from campus; I went here a reasonable number of times as an undergrad at Duke. I usually got the Pad Thai or Twisted Noodles; I'd say both are tastier than their counterparts at the nearby Thai Cafe.
