I was looking to write a review for Twist and my search came up with Twist Restaurant (a different place)...which actually showed a review for the eatery. Just a heads up to keep a sharp eye for clarification. This is the charming eatery on La Brea. I will definitely have to come back to try more things on their menu but I had the veggie quiche and WOW! the best i've ever had. Seriously. there are these roasted red peppers in there that really make it special. and its not loaded with cheese. Just really really fresh. I've been here several times as I live right nearby. The food is good quality, a decent selection but not wide. I like the fresh bakery goods - among their best items. They do play cool music - unlike all the other restaurants that play modern electronica/hip-hop. However prices are day high for what it is, and I never say "wow" about any of the meals. Love this place. Owner and staff couldn't be nicer. Above all, the food is fresh and delicious. One of the best grilled veggie sandwiches in town on homemade focaccia. Another wonderful sandwich is the chicken with caramelized onions and cheese. Also crave the salmon bowl which has lentil, quinoa and veggies with a pomegranate dressing. So amazing. I live right by here and I've been here a few times. The food's always good, tastes fresh consistently, and is just well executed. We ended up here for brunch as the restaurant that we were planning on going to was not open yet, so this was our plan B. The space feels vast, yet comfortable. Once it is pointed out it is clear the space was once an ally way and they did a fantastic job in making it a welcoming indoor space. My girlfriend took me here a few days ago because she said it was her favorite lunch spot to go to in the city. After eating there I can't argue with that logic. Upon entering the restaurant the first thing I noticed was how clean it was. We went up to the counter to order and the staff was so kind and courteous. I ordered the Cuban Sandwich which came with a side salad. After taking a bite I realized this place has, quite possibly, one of the best Cuban sandwiches in all of LA! Their sandwich press got the bread slightly crispy/toasted on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The pork was juicy and flavorful without being overly greasy and the salad was great as well! I will definitely be going back to this place sooner rather than later. Service not very good. I asked the barista to steam my milk for my tea she didn't listen to me the first time. The other girl working was wearing leggings that I could see right through. And they don't have a proper system for making tea to get you in and out. Love looseleaf tea but having some bags on the side for to go orders would be very helpful. Overly priced for a crappy drink. When into avoid the Starbucks deliberately to help support local business but I regret my decision. read more

Spring is the nicest waitress/barista ever. She's friendly and efficient. The menu has variety, but some things taste fresh and some don't.... the salmon for example is never quite right. Tastes like frozen fish for sure. The coffee is terrible but the teas are lovely. Good breakfast/treat spot... biscuits are a highlight, I think they make those fresh in house. read more

Great neighborhood place for a nice casual breakfast/lunch, where you can catch up on e-mails with free WiFi, and be helped by awesomely friendly staff. Food is very tasty, and vibe is perfectly casual. You can sit for hours chatting or working, drinking good coffee, and nibbling on all sorts of small things like biscuits and salads, all the way up to full meals. Staff are fully five-star awesome. The food was less than mediocre at best. Service was poor. Our table was wobbly but they wouldn't let us change the table instead had one of the girl insert a napkin under one of the legs. I stayed to eat the blueberry souffle pancakes-- they tasted better after I took the leftovers home than in Twist. I had expected the pancakes to have more (smooshed) berries to make the pancake taste blueberry-ish. I was a little surprised that there were all of 7 intact berries in a circle that contributed little to the flavor the pancake while I ate at twist-- the pancake, otherwise, just tasted like a regular (non blueberry) pancake which was disappointing. However, I'd recommend that Twist use a blueberry sauce or smooshed blueberries in their pancakes (which is what I was expecting)-- when I took the leftovers home, the blueberries had time to "burst" and spread blueberry juice throughout the remaining pancake, which tasted far better. I have no complaints about service-- the person behind the cash register was nice (I actually liked paying for the pancakes upfront) and the owner made sure I was taken care of. It's quiet (no loud clattering) which was pleasant. read more

These other rave reviews are making me laugh. Are you related to the owner? Are you sure you're reviewing the correct place? I went here with a friend to grab a quick sandwich to go. First, they were out of the one thing that really sounded awesome to me. I was disappointed but I realize that happens. We both ordered the chicken and my friend got a lemonade and a side. The total came to almost $40. Then we proceeded to wait....and wait. It took 25 minutes for us to get our "quick" sandwiches. The sandwiches were ok but nothing special. They were really greasy but not bad. Just good. If we had gone to Ralphs down the street and gotten the same thing it would have taken half the time, cost half the price and tasted exactly the same. This place is so overpriced. To put it in perspective, they charge $5.00 if you order an egg white on the side. It's a very cute space but that's not enough to save this average bakery. La Brea Bakery, All About The Bread, Little Next Door or Whole Foods would be such better options. read more

this place is a win on both service and food. i've been here a few times and have not been disappointed. first off: service is always amazing. waitresses are super friendly + helpful secondly: the food is delicious. i've had the jalapeño biscuit breakfast, the regular biscuit breakfast, and the mish mash breakfast so far and they've all been super tasty and very filling third: coffee is delicious and they offer free refills. even a refill to go if you're so inclined. read more

Twist is awesome, there were no seats left outside and the waitress brought a table from inside the resturant for us because we had are dog and couldn't go in. My husband ordered the biscuit breakfast sandwich was amazing and I got the mash breakfast special it was delicious. I love this place! Will def. come back! Consistently very good. The space has an open aired industrial feel. Never gets too loud inside, and there are a couple of tables outside if you prefer. The coffees are very good. TWIST-ED is More like it... This cafe upon first sight, oozes with a soothing comfort style, that beckons you to come on in. The set-up is clean modern industrial but with wood furnishings and open space. Nice. In the quickness test - the place, rather empty. Not a soul at the counter but myself. I order an ESPRESSO (steamed milk on the side) and an ALMOND CRIOSSANT and instead of getting my order, the young lady makes me pay first - okay, not a big deal - but as soon as I click "tip 20%" on the iPad, about 4 new customers enter. The young lady behind counter (only one btw) waits until my transaction completes... then says, "Have a seat and I will bring it to you". And, proceeds to take orders from everyone, rather than finish my ESPRESSO order. In the end she does not bring to me but rather places at the counter for me to collect... The Criossant - NOT FRESH!! STALE!!! HARD!!! Are you freekinG Kidding me?? With Labrea Bakery just down the block, Sycamore Kitchen just a few blocks to the north and Susina not too much farther along with Short CakeLA just at the Farmer's Market...???? Come ON!!! The Espresso was fine enough but certainly not worth the wait. I suggest the owners go and enjoy a real criossant at any of the places I've mentioned and get with the program... A CRIOSSANT --- The ideal crust should be distinct from the softer interior. It should be extremely flaky and shatter when torn or bitten into. It should be extremely crisp, but not crunchy or tough. Each layer of flaky pastry should virtually melt on the tongue, but not feel greasy in your hands. It should be an even, golden brown color all around. The interior should be feather-light with many layers. It should be tender and moist but not gummy or doughy. The layers of dough should show plenty of stretch and separate gently from each other when you pull at them with your fingers. The flavor of a croissant should be intensely buttery with a natural dairy sweetness. It should not taste like added sugar or be cloying. It should be well-seasoned, but not so salty that you can't imagine eating it with jam or preserves. In the end, if you're going to make the patron WAIT for something that should've taken no more than 3 minutes, it has got to be worth the wait. TWIST has got things well - TwistED. read more

Great cute casual brunch place on La brea that's a hidden gem! Go for the home made biscuits. My go to is the bacon egg cheddar biscuit with potatoes. The turkey and gravy I hear is also yummy. The only constructive criticism I can give is that the food tends to be on the saltier side, especially the potatoes. Overall the staff there is wonderful and helpful and the food is reasonably priced. It's never too crowded and I especially like the cute decor. read more

$3.50 for drip coffee? LA is more expensive for breakfast than NYC... By a hefty margin! Sweet and airy, chill vibe. Counter service. I'm not crazy about these registers that kinda guilt one int leaving a gratuity for counter service... But they seem ubiquitous in Los Angeles. I like to tip for good table service (and to waiters who earn less in salary to begin with), but when food is expensive AND they simply drop it at your table, 15% is not warranted. Good coffee (though I prefer Peet's). I'd come back for the biscuit (though I neither saw nor tasted a jalapeño in the "jalapeño cheddar" biscuit)-- but I'd skip the 'too much for too little' coffee. read more

This great neighborhood eatery opened about 10 days ago and I've been three times! I like the bakery offerings as there are many small items for just a bit of sweet treat, and the prepared salads are outstanding...variety and a keen sense of taste balance coming from the kitchen. I want to like this place so much... But the food is unfortunately mediocre. The eggs on breakfast sandwiches are dry and not fluffy. The orange juice definitely tastes more like sunny D than fresh squeezed OJ. The location and staff are great! Went to Twist for the first time last week and had a great experience. I scheduled a meeting there and it was the perfect spot. Free wifi, plenty of space to sit, quiet enough to do work or take a meeting. The food all looked delicious. Service was totally on point, very friendly and accommodating. I mean... the decor is nice and bright. And the salad I ordered was pretty good... but it's really really REALLY hard to mess up a salad. First off, the woman who took me and my friend's order gave us a really weird/rude vibe. Her answers were snippy and she had an attitude like she just did not want to be there at ALL. My friend's bahn mi was extremely dry. The sauce (which I believe was sriracha mayo) couldn't save it. The crowd is very... strange? Not the people themselves, of course. I'm sure everybody is wonderful. I'm just saying the mix of people is just all very different... which makes the atmosphere a little bit awkward.
