    Sam Special Sandwich
    Amanda P.

The best sandwich in El Segundo! We always get the Sam Special (hot, with everything on it). Sooooo delish! The service is top notch too. Sam and family always greet us with a big smile. They are located on Main St just north of El Segundo Bl so easy to find and there is usually parking right out front. They have sidewalk seating which is a nice vibe as well. A great gem of a little cafe!

This is a great little hole in the wall Italian place. It is close to LAX so I can get over, pick up dinner and get back to work fairly quickly. The pizza never disappoints so that is my go to. But I stray and get lasagna, sandwiches, and salads now and then. Regardless of what I order I'm always satisfied with my meal. This is a very small storefront restaurant and being on duty I've never stayed to eat there. But I believe that there's a couple of tables that are available. I'm a big fan of shopping and dining small and local. Little Gourmet is a perfect example of a small local restaurant that does it well. The staff are always friendly, smiling, and greet me cheerfully.

Great value and portion size. Friendly owners/employees. Very small location. Dine in or on patio available, but probably easier for take out. Convenient location in Downtown El Segundo. Will definitely be back

Food was delicious and the customer service was great. Highly recommend the fettuccine Alfredo and the lasagna. Their salad was unique and very fresh! Loved the ranch they used, and the extra Parmesan for the food. Music was such a throw back as well!

Sorry about the missing slices. I had to rescue some of my capocollo slices before they disappeared.

This was my son's week to pick a dinner so I gave him some places I saw on Yelp near El Segundo that had good ratings. He decided to give Little Gourmet a shot. Being a creature of habit, he went with the eggplant parmigiana dinner which he thought was good but not as good as Ricci's in Bellflower. My daughter ordered the fettuccine dinner which didn't seem to impress her much. My wife and I split a pizza with mushrooms and half sausage and half capicola. It's unusual to see capicola as a topping choice so I was rather excited by that. Unfortunately, I think it works better in sandwiches rather than baked on a pizza. It's not much different than having pepperoni but at least I tried it. I thought the sauce was very tasty but the crust was rather bland. What did impress me was a thick layer of quality mozzarella covering the pie. All of the orders were very generous portions so that was a plus. There is only street parking so my son said that was a bit inconvenient around dinner time. The service was friendly and pleasant. A dinner for 4 at a little over $50 was very reasonable. I look forward to trying some other items on their menu. Many people seem to enjoy their sandwiches so maybe we can pick up some of those next time. I'm really impressed by the fact that they've done a great job keeping prices reasonable while still offering a great value to their customers. Thanks Little Gourmet.

Great little spot! Had the classic Sam's Special, Hot....it was great! Not overly dressed and not too much meat...perfectly toasted. The pepperoncini add some acid to balance the salted meats...real dang good And got an 8" Jalapeño Pizza....surprisingly awesome! Good crust and lots of cheese This is a No frills spot with good food

We started with cocktails. I had the Mary Sue ("Pornstar Martini") with vodka, vanilla, passionfruit, salted lime, fino sherry, and champagne foam. YUM. Dangerously good. My husband had the Rob Gentile, an elevated Old Fashioned, and was thoroughly impressed. Service was great, and the food was top-notch. Let's dive in! Meatballs with beef, pork, ricotta, potato purée, tomato sauce, Grana Padano, and arugula--WOW. Cheesy, saucy perfection. Beef Tartare with tonnato, shallot, marjoram, crispy potato, and toast. Delicious and a generous portion. I ordered Coop's Pork Shank with Lambrusco-mustard glaze, aromatic jus, and potato purée. Tender, flavorful, and that broth was incredible. It paired perfectly with the broccolini... ...which we didn't order. We spotted the table next to us enjoying it with burrata and immediately added it to our "next time" list. My son ordered the Chicken Parm with capellini. He loved the huge chicken parm portion, which successfully fed his bottomless teenage appetite, but declared the pasta "too eggy." Teenagers are basically unpaid Michelin critics. My husband ordered the Scarpinocc with braised beef cheek, brown butter, sage, and saba. He loved it, but our resident food critic chimed in with, "I don't really taste the beef." Dessert was the cinnamon bread pudding with ice cream and caramel drizzle--absolutely worth saving room for. Everything was delicious, portions were generous, and we left happy (and full enough to feed a small submarine crew). Definitely coming back!

The pasta was clearly homemade, and you could tell it was fresh, but the actual flavors were very underwhelming. For a place specializing in Italian cuisine, we expected a lot more punch. What really turned us off, though, was the lack of value. For the price of the food, the service policy feels incredibly stingy. They do not give you free refills on drinks, which is ridiculous at this price point--refills should absolutely be included. To make matters worse, you do not get free bread for the table either. Overall, we did not like this restaurant. Between the underwhelming food and being nickel-and-dimed for basic things like bread and drink refills, it is definitely not worth the price tag. We won't be back

The atmosphere was relaxing, charming, and exactly what we were looking for. I absolutely loved the restaurant's interior design. The large windows offered beautiful views outside, creating a bright and inviting ambiance. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, but since it was a cool and cloudy day, we chose to sit inside and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. The food was excellent. The Garlic Bread ($9) was delicious, with a perfect combination of cheese, herbs, and sauce. The Garozzo's of Kansas City Sausage ($19) was flavorful and satisfying, served with roasted peppers, onions, and polenta. The Roasted Beets with Chicken ($21) was beautifully presented and tasted fresh and great. The highlight of the meal was the Lasagna ($29)--rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious. To finish our lunch, we shared the Tiramisu ($15), which was the perfect ending. The service was outstanding. Our server was friendly and attentive. During our conversation, we learned that the owner also operates Slay Steak + Fish House and a French restaurant. We had actually dined at Slay Steak + Fish House previously and thoroughly enjoyed that experience as well. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Slay Italian Kitchen. UPDATE! We came…read moreback about a month later to celebrate Hubbers' birthday, but the experience wasn't the same. I'm guessing since they're coming to a permanent closure, it only makes sense that the quality of the experience (food and service) had began to going down. We were seated immediately, so we were off to a good start. It took a bit of time for Daniel (yep! We got the same server from the last time) to come around and get our orders. It wasn't too bad since the wait gave us the opp to decide on apps and mains, so we got to put all our orders in at once. CALAMARI: Battered thin and crispy. Dash of lemon juice made it better. Quality? Yes. Quantity? Not so much. I thought it was pricey for the amount we got. PEPPERCORN POLPETTINE: Meatballs in cream sauce. Even with the whole peppercorns, the sauce was good. The meatballs, however, didn't taste or look homemade at all. (I recently made frozen meatball soup at home and the meatball's flavor was pretty much similar.) So.. meh... BRUSCHETTA ALLA CHECCA: This was the best app out of the three. Crostini was perfect and the toppings were all perfectly balanced. SPAGHETTI AI NERO DI SEPPIA: Looked great, but lacked flavor. Asked for fresh grated cheese and added black pepper which helped a little, but still missing something... Hubbers got the linguine pesca mare which he loved (he emptied his plate!) So I guess that says a lot. And I'm really glad he liked it, being his birthday and all. He also chose crème brûlée to finish off his birthday treat. (No, they didn't comp it - which is fine, and I don't expect them - or any business - to, even more since they are shutting down. I understand they need all the profit they can get.) Overall a little less stellar than the first visit. I'll admit I was a teenee bit disappointed since we had an amazing experience the first time. All the same, I'm still glad of the experience and wish them well on their future endeavors!
