Ambience - Super cute tiny Asian/Indonesian restaurant. The lobby is really small with only a few tables and booths. The decor thou is super awesome. The area where the crew goes to the kitchen looks like a traditional Asian food booth with banners, bamboo and so on. The decor was very bold and entertaining with very bright portraits and decorations. It has a very nice homey feeling to it.
Menu - There is 2 menus that they give you. One is the standard Asian cuisine and then there is a smaller Indonesian cuisine menu. The menus are literally just white printed pieces of paper with item names on it. No color, pictures, explanations. Just white paper with black ink. Saves on paper goods. Like most places there are no descriptions of the items on the menus, just the arbitrary names like "Buddhas Delight" I dont know what that is but im hoping it is something fried because Buddha didnt get that big eating a salad. There is the standard lunch menu that comes with a choice of rice, eggroll and a soup for about $8.00. Not bad. However, the Indonesian menu does come with descriptions because the menu items are in Indonesian. There are even numbers by each item which im guessing is for ease of ordering. Pretty standard menu that you would find anywhere. But has a nice touch that there is an another menu. They also offer delivery, but i dont know the range.
Service - Like most these mom and pop shops, you get greeted and seated in poor english. Seemed like this was a close knit of family and friends that were running this store. The server lady, who was fairly older, was super sweet. She had a huge smile on the entire time and was very polite. During the course of my stay several of the other crew came out and helped refill drinks and help the guests out. They even all checked on me to make sure that everything was alright. The service here was really good, everyone was smiling and very helpful to everyone.
Food - I ordered of the lunch menu and got the Triple Delight with wonton soup, pork eggroll and fried rice. The soup was a very simple yet flavorful soup. There were 2 big wontons with some nice green onions. When i got my soup it was about the temperature of what i assume lava would be. Yes i know, soup is hot. But in my haste, i didnt let it sit or blow on it long enough. Goodbye taste buds! Yeah, i burned my tongue. My fault thou lol. I get my meal which has the rice, eggroll and a veggie mix with chicken, beef and shrimp in a brown sauce. As soon as i get my food i stare at what is supposedly "fried rice". But it looks like a scoop of rice with soy poured on it. I taste the rice first and sure enough my thoughts become reality. It was an imposter, this man is not "Fried rice" but instead his evil twin brother "Fraud Rice". The rice was pretty lackluster, didnt have any flavor to it. No spices, could barely taste the soy and egg. Ugh so disappointing. The eggroll thou was much better. It was cooked nicely, had alot of pork and alot of good greasy flavor. Now for the entree. The veggies that came with it were carrots, snowpeas and mushrooms. Pretty standard veggie medley. The beef and chicken were cooked very well as they were tender and still had flavor. The shrimp however was strange. It wasnt cooked all the way or something. It had a very overwhelming fishy shrimp taste to it. I like shrimp but this just tasted way off, so i pushed the rest of the shrimp to the side. The veggies were also cooked nicely as they still had some crunch. The sauce is a standard brown sauce so it has a rich savory flavor to it. The menu stated that this was a spicy dish but i got no spice whatsoever. I like to think and boast i have a high tolerance for spicy food but there was none here to be had. All these things mixed together did produce a nice and flavorful dish. Would have been better if the rice was better to help compliment the dish. But overall it was a decent tasting meal. Nothing super special but not terrible either.
Overall - For $8.00 it was right on point for what it was. A good tasting meal that filled me up. I was a little let down by the many 5 stars about the food quality but for me it was just good. Maybe it was because i got a lunch special which is streamlined. But not fireworks and parades for me. I will be back to try dinner and the Indonesian menu as those might be the actually gems here that i missed out on. However, it was still good food, had good flavor and was filling. And for only $8. Not bad if i do say so myself. The vibe and crew here are pretty awesome and so i will definitely be back to try some of the other items and the other menu read more
