I've been coming here for a number of years since I was in middle school for pant hems and dress alterations. They do a fantastic job, and are very sweet with accommodating to my schedule! Prices are also amazing (about 8 dollar hems), because in this area you are normally looking at 15+ dollar hems.... why a hem would ever cost 15 is beyond me.... My sister also had Tuyet make an animal print halloween costume one year-- she came in with fuzzy fabric and a crazy vision, and Tuyet executed!! It came out awesome at a great price. Let me warn you, I am writing this review while in the state of frustration. I chose Tuyet Minh Tailor for 2 reasons - 4 stars on Yelp and more importantly, I needed a place close enough to work for me to pop into. Unfortunately, I've been let down on two separate occasions. I came with two of my coworkers the first time (we each had a few dresses to alter). For me, I got the length of three short dresses altered, length of one slip, and sleeves on a dress for a total of $85.00. The lady asked for the three of us to come back in a week. We came back the following week and everyone's dresses were ready except mine. Grr. The lady asked for me to come back the following day - which I had no choice but to do - so I agreed with the promise that she could adjust the straps for me on one of the dresses due to the inconvenience, as well. I returned the following day and the dresses were ready (yay) but the lady had the nerve to ask me to pay for the strap alterations (value of $5). I refused and she said "OK fine". My shopping addiction and petite size brought me back to Tuyet Minh Tailor, purely out of convenience. I'm going out of the country in a couple days and needed my dresses altered, but with not much time in the day, I decided to give this place another shot. This time, I got the length of three short dresses altered for a total of $55. She told me to return anytime on Wednesday (today) after 5pm. I showed up at 5pm today and they were not done, again. Despite having a convenient location to me, this place has been more of an inconvenience. Price - 3 stars (They seem to upcharge for every small change, even though it's not that much different) Quality - 2.5 stars (None of the dresses I got altered with detailed or extravagant, all very simple so it's hard to say.) Service - 2 stars Hopefully my review won't sabotage the quality of work I receive on the dresses when I pick them up tomorrow! read more

I bring my clothes here for her to sew and every time it's ready for pickup it's always been a problem. What's the point of measurements if you don't go by them and even if I bring a shirt in for the exact measurements it's never the same. It's always big and looked like she rushed it. For some reason, although I am a statuesque 5'3" my pants always seem to be too long. Tuyet Minh Tailor is a lifesaver in hemming up all those too-long-for-life pants for only $8.00 a pair! What a steal! The only downsides are that this place takes a few days to get the pants ready, and it's cash only. Once they let me take my pants and come back later to pay -- I thought that was pretty rad of them, but I wouldn't count on that again, and make sure to have bills on hand when I visit. read more

I've been taking clothes to Tuyet for alterations for several years. She's and her staff of seamstresses have always done an excellent job and re-worked something if it wasn't right the first time, without any additional charge. I've brought her many very expensive clothes to alter, and she's always done an excellent job. I've also had her make new (copies) of jackets, suits and ball gowns from samples I've brought in. If the work is extensive, it can get pricey (but would get pricey with anyone) but Tuyet's work has always been excellent and done on time - even when I've pushed her to get it done faster than her estimate. She's also stayed open late if I had to pick up something that night and was running late. Very professional and a very nice lady. Her english can be so-so at times, but her knowledge of clothes and best ways to fit/alter them is excellent and she has a very good eye for fitting. I came here because they happen to be the most convenient to my location and I had also read a decent review on them. Good customer service. Friendly. Great price, $8 for a pant hem compared to the $12 I was paying where I lived before. The only complaint I have is that it took them 3 days to do a VERY simple pant hem. When every other tailor was charging $10 to hem pants, Tuyet Minh was charging $6. Hot! and, yes, that included both legs! Unfortunately, there must be some relation between the price of gas and alterations, cause it now costs $8. Still one of the cheapest places around, and in Los Altos, who would have thought!?! I go to Tuyet Minh Tailor for alterations and they're very friendly, very knowledgeable, and have a really quick turnover time. They mostly do the hems on my jeans. Original hem is the cheapest in Los Altos ($16) and having them do their own hem is only $8. I recently took a pair of dress pants there to hem and was surprised that it was $8! I picked it up a couple of days ago and it looked great! My mom also takes some of her clothes here to get them taken in and we haven't experienced any problems with them so far. First time I brought my once-worn shirt there, they managed to ruin it with some rusty stain on the collar and refused to acknowledge it. It took them 15 minutes to find the shirt despite the receipt. When I spotted the stain and asked for an explanation, they just kept making excuses after excuses and refused to have it washed again. It ended when they reluctantly tried to stuff $2 in my hand and sent me out the door. Ridiculous. Pick any dry cleaner in Los Altos but never this one. read more

This team nails it every time! It is cash only, but payable upon pickup. They are super professional and will tailor your items to the most specific need. They match the thread color almost exactly, every time. I have had them tailor different cuts for my dress shirts, hem-then-re-sew original cuff onto jeans, take-in pants, mend tears and rips, re-sew buttons, and shorten sleeves. They do a great job and impress me consistently. And although they are no longer a convenient location for where I live and work, but I still keep making the trip because it is worth it! read more

Just got back from Tuyet Minh Tailor so this is fresh on my mind. Pretty frustrated now after I took two shirts back to them because they damaged the buttons on the collar of my dress shirts. When I showed them the damaged buttons they said yes, the shirts are done by machine and the machine often breaks buttons. Remember, these are collar buttons and the sharp edges of the broken buttons can pinch! When I asked them if they had replacement buttons they said no, they did not. Now that's pretty odd for a laundry/tailor combo.... usually most shops have plenty of replacement buttons. Then they looked elsewhere on my shirts for replacement buttons. Finding no "extra" buttons, they suggested taking a button off my sleeve. That obviously does not work. Then they suggested I myself find a button to replace the two that they had damaged. When I replied that it was not my job to find replacement buttons for the ones that THEY had damaged, they said I should understand that they charge less for their work so I should expect some damage from time to time. Uh, no I don't. Probably don't need to say that I will not be taking my shirts back there again, do I? Really disappointed in the quality of their work and the casualness of their service. And a little suspicious of an "all cash" shop in this day and age. Makes me wonder if they are paying their "fair share"....... read more

Sure the people there can barely speak English (universal sign language is what I use) but they are friendly. Beware of their dry cleaning! They offered to dry clean my silk duvet cover, after sewing a torn seam. They did good work on the seam, but their dry cleaning RUINED the feel of the silk. They got the stains out, but it also appears that someone put the cover through a washing machine. The silk now feels like crusty old cotton that has been sitting in the sun and rain for a decade. We've been coming here to launder and dry clean clothes, but rarely for their alterations. I have a wedding that I'm attending and my bridesmaids' dress needed severe alterations. The custom made dress needed to be taken in several inches (due to recent weight loss). Imagine the gown, a long ball gown with beading all over the top. I was trying to avoid the alteration because I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg in this one time wear, but it was just so big that I had no choice. So I brought it on, and they quoted me the project on the spot. 2 weeks later, I picked up the gown and it fit perfectly! I've been getting my alterations and repairs done here for the last year or so. They seem very professional and experienced about their work. Their cleaning services are very reasonably priced as well. If there's a downside, it's the relative inconvenience. Cleaning seems to take a bit longer than other places, and even though 9am is their official opening time (which is already later than other cleaners), I've given up showing up at 9 in the morning only to find them still closed. read more

This tailoring shop seems a little on the pricey side, but they do impeccable work, and if you ask for them to get your stuff done in a hurry for a special occasion, they can speed things up a little too.
