This is the ideal place to enjoy monster burgers, many seafood options, and great beer ( even Delirium on tap. You gotta love the atmosphere as it looks like it is about to fall down... but is indeed clean and safe inside. The outside tables look directly on the ocean (across A1A). A word of caution, if you get caught up in the appetizer's, drinks, main course, and dessert you can be surprised by the large check- so pace yourself. We go about once a month. It is just a short walk to Java Joint and you usually park on the shoulder of A1A. They don't have a parking lot! read more

This place is ready for Restaurant Rescue, Bar Rescue. Actually both. Entrance is concrete, stained with grease. Yuck! Bar was filthy, junk and miscellaneous stuff all over the place. Staff was friendly but actually consumed with internal squabbling within earshot of guests. Draft beer was flat. Had a to-go order. No utensils, no follow up to confirm order, nada. Why people ever go into the customer service business without any real customer service excellence much less personality as this crew this night is beyond me. Perhaps this management can get professional help and turn this place around. Lacking that it will languish until it dies like a salamander on the road. Great lunch at the Turtle Shack. I suggested this place to my brother-in-law after seeing the 4.5 star rating on Yelp. He and I and our wives drove to the restaurant. It's one of those places you already have to know where you're going to find it since there's no giant sign to see as you drive north on A1A. Going south there's a bunch of turtles painted on the side so it's easier to find. I had a bowl of the New England Clam Chowder followed by the ahi. the latter was barely burned, covered with sesame seeds and sliced thinly and served sashimi style with wasabe and chop sticks. Very nice! Our wives split the Avocado Egg Rolls (what!?) ... 3 rolls cut in half.. they each loved 'em. My BIL had the crab soup (nice and spicey sez he) and a crab cake. We all left having had "just enough" for a light lunch. The owner, Dan, was very personable and the service was timely and deft. P.S. it's called a Shack for a reason... ad some of the turtle sculpture on the ceiling is way cool. The ambiance is very beach shack. If you haven't tried it give it a shot! read more

This place seems to be very popular with the locals which is always a good sign! We arrived shortly after six on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and did have to wait about 10 min for a table. The locals were very friendly and let us borrow on their menus to look at while we waited and another lent us a chair for our elderly mother to sit in. Not a lot of extra room to stand and wait in. Only wine and beer is served here. No cocktails which was a bummer for me. I ordered a cup of the clam chowder and so did sonny. We both agreed that it was excellent! Packed with lots of juicy clams and had just a touch of heat to it. Hubby had the Maryland crab soup. I had a ton of nice crab meat on top which was delicious. He didn't care for the soup so much but that was more his fault than theirs. He forgot that he doesn't really care for that type of broth. Both sonny and had the Skip's burger for our main but both thought it could be skipped. He had the larger sized burger and I the smaller. I ordered mine medium thought it came more medium well to well done. The toppings were nice, egg, bacon, tomato, lettuce and onion. The fish of the day was a Grouper. Both hubby and mother-in-law had that. They really really liked it. It was cooked perfectly. The fish came with a choice of two sides. Mother-in-law got the seasoned fries but they came out cold. Not too appetizing. We all enjoyed the pineapple coleslaw. read more

Wow, what a find in the small Old Florida hamlet called Flagler Beach. We tried this beachside shack-style restaurant after strong recommendations from some foodie friends. What a pleasant surprise. When you pull up, don't judge the book by the cover. The food is seriously good. Everything is fresh, local and made in-house. Burgers are amazing and cooked perfectly to order. I really wanted to love The Turtle Shack. The staff was very friendly, and the menu choices sounded so mouthwatering, we had a hard time deciding on what to order. We started with a crab cake appetizer and the prime rib fries. Both were delicious! Unfortunately, the main entrees didn't keep the good vibe going. We ordered the grouper sandwich, kids' fish fingers, and kids' chicken tenders. They were all heavily battered and fried, giving them just the flavor of something fried. It overwhelmed the delicate grouper flavor, which was unfortunate. Our oldest ordered a burger and was a happy camper there. My fiance ordered the prime rib which he thought was overcooked and came with a side of mashed potatoes and broccoli, neither of which was seasoned at all. I ordered the special of pecan-crusted triggerfish in a red curry with a hint of peanut butter. Unfortunately this delicate fish was also battered and fried and the curry sauce tasted more like sweet peanut butter than anything else. I was disappointed but again the server was so nice, I didn't want to complain and ate it. My fiance described the food as older folks' diner specials, and I kind of have to agree. Always awesome. The Turtle Shack only serves great fresh food. The staff are educated and treat you like family. You have to have their signature Prime Rib dinner usually available until they sell out...and they do sell out. The locals have kept this place a secret for years but it's too late. The word is out. Amazing view directly to the beach. I had the bacon blue cheese chips and a French dip. Oh my goodness! Best version of the chips I ever had. Gooey blue cheese sauce and crisp chips with bacon and balsamic. Yes please! The dip was covered in gooey provolone with a generous portion of meat. Hubby had the A1A mushroom Swiss burger. Cooked perfectly rare. Large burger topped generously. And easy parking! Server was friendly without hovering. This is a must do! We are local, and this is now on our definite go to list! read more

We love to try new places when we travel. We were lured to the Turtle Shack by its stellar reviews and beach setting. It is a little hole in the wall right across from the beach. We were there on the perfect winter evening so we could not see the water, but instead had the light of a glorious moon illuminitatiig the sky. That was a good thing because we decided to eat on the patio of the restaurant and there was not light at all, to even a candle. It was our choice to eat there as opposed to waiting for a table inside. The place was full on a Saturday night, with some loud music being played inside. We all ordered soups to start. The Clam Chowder was better than the bland Crab Chowder, which tasted like canned vegetable soup with some crab thrown in. Our friendly server highly recommended the Crab Cakes so we all ordered Crab Cake Sandwiches with different sides. The Crab Cake lived up to its expectations. It was practically all Crab with very little filler. It could certainly go up against any Crab Cake we had recently in Baltimore or Pennsylvania! The best side was the onion rings Husband ordered. They were freshly fried, without a thick batter. The sweet potato fries and mashed potatoes were not good. I liked that my broccoli was unadorned but it was practically raw. We may get back to the Turtle Shack eventually, but I think there are lots of other places to check out before a return visit. read more

Having been back here a few times I would say the food is hit or miss here but what saves it is the great view right on A1A across from the beach. It's a very rustic little place with not many seats. We like the prime rib on weekends. The mussels are just mediocre. Its definitely not a fancy place. It's a much better experience to eat outside on the sandy porch. One thing that surprised us last visit was the waitress allowed a party at an outdoor table to vape while everyone was having dinner. The three men were sharing the vape, passing it back and forth and glaring at anyone who looked over at them. The waitress clearly saw it and was ok with it. That somewhat ruined the experience for us and definitely lowered our review. read more

I met a friend tonight for her birthday dinner. First time for her. I bragged this place was great We ordered the blackened grouper and when it arrived we began to eat. At first I thought the fish was a little tough in one area but then I tried another area and it was tough too. I ended up cutting the fish with a knife and my friend did too. I have never had to cut grouper. It looked more like monk fish but I'm not sure. I only ate a few bites and when the server took my plate I pointed out that I didn't even eat half and that I had to use a knife. Given that information I was surprised she brought the full bill and not even inquiring if we wanted to talk to the manager I was embarrassed that there was NO level of customer concern and I do realize these are troubling times for businesses but if a customer has a bad experience with the food there would be an inquiry as to how can they keep the customer happy and wanting to come back. Not even a slight peep. They lost this customer and I usually NEVER post a bad rating but they didn't leave me with a choice. Went a few night ago on a Friday for some seafood. Had a hankering for some fish tacos. Got them with grouper and did the upgrade to add avocado etc. The blu cheese crumbles overpowered the entire meal and did not make it enjoyable. I don't recommend adding it unless you really love blu cheese and with fish. Otherwise without that they would have been ok. Nothing to brag about in my opinion. The fish was not served very hot, temperature wise. My hubby had New England clam chowder which was very salty. He did enjoyed the crab cake sandwich. It is pretty noisy eating inside with the sound of everyone talking etc when it's busy. Nothing to buffer the sounds so it bounces off the walls and hits you right back in the ears. Service was just ok. Only saw the waiter once when he took our order. The young man they have clearing the dishes and bringing out stuff was very polite and kept asking if we needed anything. Haven't been for awhile but it's my birthday so I wanted to get down to the beach area. I've always had a burger and been satisfied but I decided to try the avocado egg roll appetizer instead it was recommended by the server. She said it was her favorite.I also had the onion rings side dish. My husband had a giant 3/4 pound burger topped with egg. He loved the burger and ate it all! I was less satisfied. The avocado egg rolls were practically devoid of avocado but honestly even if it was overflowing with avocado I don't think it would have been a whole lot better. Basically it was seasoned cream cheese in an egg roll that was cut in half lengthwise. The onion rings which previously brought us here quite often are now in a batter that is seasoned with what tastes like Italian seasoning. Not my favorite taste in an onion ring. The service couldn't have been better. The food came in a reasonable time and our server was very attentive. I'm not sure if I'd recommend Turtle Shack but I'm hoping it was just a strange day in the kitchen because it has a great location and casual atmosphere that we enjoy. read more
