Always awesome. The Turtle Shack only serves great fresh food. The staff are educated and treat you like family. You have to have their signature Prime Rib dinner usually available until they sell out...and they do sell out. The locals have kept this place a secret for years but it's too late. The word is out. Having been back here a few times I would say the food is hit or miss here but what saves it is the great view right on A1A across from the beach. It's a very rustic little place with not many seats. We like the prime rib on weekends. The mussels are just mediocre. Its definitely not a fancy place. It's a much better experience to eat outside on the sandy porch. One thing that surprised us last visit was the waitress allowed a party at an outdoor table to vape while everyone was having dinner. The three men were sharing the vape, passing it back and forth and glaring at anyone who looked over at them. The waitress clearly saw it and was ok with it. That somewhat ruined the experience for us and definitely lowered our review. read more

Wow, what a find in the small Old Florida hamlet called Flagler Beach. We tried this beachside shack-style restaurant after strong recommendations from some foodie friends. What a pleasant surprise. When you pull up, don't judge the book by the cover. The food is seriously good. Everything is fresh, local and made in-house. Burgers are amazing and cooked perfectly to order. Went a few night ago on a Friday for some seafood. Had a hankering for some fish tacos. Got them with grouper and did the upgrade to add avocado etc. The blu cheese crumbles overpowered the entire meal and did not make it enjoyable. I don't recommend adding it unless you really love blu cheese and with fish. Otherwise without that they would have been ok. Nothing to brag about in my opinion. The fish was not served very hot, temperature wise. My hubby had New England clam chowder which was very salty. He did enjoyed the crab cake sandwich. It is pretty noisy eating inside with the sound of everyone talking etc when it's busy. Nothing to buffer the sounds so it bounces off the walls and hits you right back in the ears. Service was just ok. Only saw the waiter once when he took our order. The young man they have clearing the dishes and bringing out stuff was very polite and kept asking if we needed anything. Haven't been for awhile but it's my birthday so I wanted to get down to the beach area. I've always had a burger and been satisfied but I decided to try the avocado egg roll appetizer instead it was recommended by the server. She said it was her favorite.I also had the onion rings side dish. My husband had a giant 3/4 pound burger topped with egg. He loved the burger and ate it all! I was less satisfied. The avocado egg rolls were practically devoid of avocado but honestly even if it was overflowing with avocado I don't think it would have been a whole lot better. Basically it was seasoned cream cheese in an egg roll that was cut in half lengthwise. The onion rings which previously brought us here quite often are now in a batter that is seasoned with what tastes like Italian seasoning. Not my favorite taste in an onion ring. The service couldn't have been better. The food came in a reasonable time and our server was very attentive. I'm not sure if I'd recommend Turtle Shack but I'm hoping it was just a strange day in the kitchen because it has a great location and casual atmosphere that we enjoy. read more

Amazing view directly to the beach. I had the bacon blue cheese chips and a French dip. Oh my goodness! Best version of the chips I ever had. Gooey blue cheese sauce and crisp chips with bacon and balsamic. Yes please! The dip was covered in gooey provolone with a generous portion of meat. Hubby had the A1A mushroom Swiss burger. Cooked perfectly rare. Large burger topped generously. And easy parking! Server was friendly without hovering. This is a must do! We are local, and this is now on our definite go to list! read more

We love to try new places when we travel. We were lured to the Turtle Shack by its stellar reviews and beach setting. It is a little hole in the wall right across from the beach. We were there on the perfect winter evening so we could not see the water, but instead had the light of a glorious moon illuminitatiig the sky. That was a good thing because we decided to eat on the patio of the restaurant and there was not light at all, to even a candle. It was our choice to eat there as opposed to waiting for a table inside. The place was full on a Saturday night, with some loud music being played inside. We all ordered soups to start. The Clam Chowder was better than the bland Crab Chowder, which tasted like canned vegetable soup with some crab thrown in. Our friendly server highly recommended the Crab Cakes so we all ordered Crab Cake Sandwiches with different sides. The Crab Cake lived up to its expectations. It was practically all Crab with very little filler. It could certainly go up against any Crab Cake we had recently in Baltimore or Pennsylvania! The best side was the onion rings Husband ordered. They were freshly fried, without a thick batter. The sweet potato fries and mashed potatoes were not good. I liked that my broccoli was unadorned but it was practically raw. We may get back to the Turtle Shack eventually, but I think there are lots of other places to check out before a return visit. read more

I met a friend tonight for her birthday dinner. First time for her. I bragged this place was great We ordered the blackened grouper and when it arrived we began to eat. At first I thought the fish was a little tough in one area but then I tried another area and it was tough too. I ended up cutting the fish with a knife and my friend did too. I have never had to cut grouper. It looked more like monk fish but I'm not sure. I only ate a few bites and when the server took my plate I pointed out that I didn't even eat half and that I had to use a knife. Given that information I was surprised she brought the full bill and not even inquiring if we wanted to talk to the manager I was embarrassed that there was NO level of customer concern and I do realize these are troubling times for businesses but if a customer has a bad experience with the food there would be an inquiry as to how can they keep the customer happy and wanting to come back. Not even a slight peep. They lost this customer and I usually NEVER post a bad rating but they didn't leave me with a choice. I had one of the best meals in a couple years at the turtle shack, it was triggerfish blackened with rice & pasta

It was very good. We started with two apps. First the fried Calamari (the thickest I have ever seen) served with a very tasty aoli). Nicely cooked, tender and delicious. They were in strips, not rings as you would normally get them. And the Crab Cake (pan seared, not deep fried which is an option. It was excellent and it was huge as far as crab cakes go. Lots of crab, no skimping there at all. Delicious. That would be my go to Crab Cake anywhere I have previously eaten. For mains, I had the 12 oz. Skip Burger, and it was delicious, if a bit juicy (the bottom bun was falling apart. This burger is actually too much burger if you ha e a full app to start. Go with the 6 oz unless you are really really hungry and are used to eating a lot of food. I chose the pineapple coke sale as a side and it was sweet and very good. Different. A summery concoction if ever there was one. My wife had the coconut Shrimp with fries and she said they were delicious. She actually ate all 8 of them so I know she liked them. The fries that came with it were also good. I tried a few. They were crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. Overall I really liked this place. It is small so if you go on a weekend be prepared to wait or go early. We were there in January on a Friday and it was packed. They also had a guy playing live music with a guitar (we couldn't see him as he was in the other room, but he sounded good). No cocktails. Just beer and wine. Wife had key lime pie for dessert (I tried it) and it was really good. Not too tart and not too sweet. read more

Did some research looking for an outside restaurant on the beach. From the outside it looks like a Shack. But the food and wine is fabulous. I had the special of trigger fish piccata, so flaky and yummy! My husband had the Jerk trigger fish, also yummy! The wine selections were the best around. Wine from all over the world. We finished with a vanilla creme brulee! DELISH! We will be back. Lamond was our server and he was so friendly. Oh and all items came out very fast! read more

Definitely recommend if you're in town. We went here twice on our vacation and it did not disappoint. Had the grouper sandwich with coleslaw. Added a side of their southwest ranch to put on top of the sandwich and it was a fantastic! Coleslaw was probably the best in the area. Loved it! We will be back! read more

The Menu offers good variety. The food is excellent, I especially like the burgers and grouper sandwich. The service is quick and friendly. The location offers a great view across street from beach. First the positives- perfect location right across the street from the ocean. Server Megan was also very nice. Also heard they have won Best Burger in Flagler! I should have ordered a burger. We were both disappointed in the Irish Stout Battered Fish dinner. They did serve two large pieces of fish but it looked and tasted like it was breaded & not beer battered. The breading was thicker & crunchier than normal. We had the calamari as an appetizer & it was different than any other calamari I have ordered. The pieces were large pieces, about the size of an index finger & the portion was generous. There was just nothing special about it. The dipping sauce was fine but we will not order this again. We hardly ever leave 2 stars but for a $50 lunch we were zero for two on our selections. We will come back to give them another try- this place is local & cute and just the kind of place we like to support. Next trip we will get the burgers : ) read more

Crab cakes best in the South. Best burger I have had. Onion rings huge, crispy, tasty. Maryland crab soup quite spicey, but oh so good, get it loaded with bacon cheese and onions.
