I haven't been to this location in years, but was in the area and popped in for a veggie pattie. I was walking, so decided to eat there. Kei was so kind to me and the other customers that came in. She seemed to be the only employee working, but she was holding it down! Veggie pattie was also 10/10! read more

I work nearby and absolutely love this place. I have an addiction to the chuck brown - I crave that peanut butter!!! I will slowly try the other juices and drinks (the premade ones look so good), but I'm a creature of habit and will keep getting my chuck brown too lol. I find the prices super reasonable for DC, and the quality to be great. One small point that others have brought up in their reviews and I do find to be true: - Occasionally they will be out of ingredients that are needed for specific drinks (it's happened for my beloved chuck brown before). Not sure what that is due to (money, time, service, etc.), but makes me sad when it happens! read more

I love it here! Such a nice, warm and inviting ambiance. Stopped here for lunch and ordered the spinach Pattie that was pretty good. Love they have a variety of toppings I could add to my black bean burger. Only thing I wish they had some type of vegan mayo vs the BBQ sauce I added to my burger. The Bob Marley smoothie was absolutely delicious and the best! As a smoothie fanatic this is probably one of the best smoothies I've had before. Service was awesome, the food is made fresh to order so there was a bit of a wait. However the cashier was apologetic for it and nice. read more

I went with the spinach strawberry salad and it was so refreshing. The mix of sweet strawberries, tangy goat cheese, and crunchy walnuts was perfect. They used a light balsamic glaze that brought everything together. You could tell the ingredients were fresh and well-balanced. It's not often I finish a salad and feel full but this one did the trick. The service was really friendly and our server even recommended a good tea to go with it. The ambiance was calm and cozy, great for catching up with a friend. read more

On my walk for pizza from another local spot, I told my colleague I needed something green and healthy, and she brought me here. Natural and healthy is an understatement. The service was ok, however, it's COVID, so I'm not tripping. Customer service was good so I can say that. The place was clean, loved the decor, and the area is full of life and culture. Nothing but good energy. I got the Happy Hemp that had some greens in it (no pun intended), very hearty yet light, which is what I needed. My colleague and I both got the Flu Shot which was much needed since I had been traveling up and down the east coast. STRONG! Like a vaxx in a cup LOL! Put some hair on your chest! Can't possibly get sick with taking something that powerful! Yet it was a good kind of strong and powerful. I am pleased with this place. Will be back when I visit DC again. read more

Turning Natural is my favorite Vegan spot in the DMV. Side Bar; I'm disappointed that the Forestville location continues to close . Anyway, I started eating at Turning Natural off MLK (Anacostia ) area many years ago. I love the Bob Marley's smoothie and the black bean burger is as soon as you walk in, a sense of peace comes over you, the conversation is pleasant and the decoration is Black and Urban and uplifting . I'm not a vegan but I would choose Turning Natural, Daily !!! read more

The most amazing smoothies and juices. Get the NIPSEY BLUE smoothie. It is so good! I get it every time. Five stars just for the smoothie alone. I've also done their juices. They're always stocked! read more

About a 1-1.5: Turning Natural is a juice bar, and they actually have several locations in the DC area (Capitol Hill, District Heights, Shaw, Eastern Market, and in Takoma Park). You can also order their cleanses and juices online, but in-store, you also have smoothies and food that you can purchase. I have tried: +the Mikale Jackson - made with dandelion, kale, pear, granny smith apples, lemon, and ginger +the C-Side - made with oranges, grapefruit, granny smith apples, lemon, and ginger +the Green Latifah - made with fennel, granny smith apples, ginger, and lemon +Just Blaze - made with granny smith apples, ginger, cayenne, and lemon +the Nipsey Blue - made with papayas, mangos, pineapple, maca, blue spirulina, and guava juice +the Muhammad Ali - made with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, mango, BCAAs, hemp protein, and pineapple juice +the Bob Marley - made with mangoes, papaya, peaches, pineapple, BCAAs, and hemp protein +and, the Chill Pill - made with strawberries, mango, flax seed, and pineapple juice Overall, the juices and the smoothies are good - well-prepared and made well. I've also noticed that most of the time, they do not have certain ingredients; I've also tried ordering their food, such as the patties and the black bean burger, but they never have those available - not sure if they are just solely focusing on beverages? However, the service is pretty awful - standoffish, somewhat rude, and not at all welcoming. Is it so hard to be dressed with a smile? I may try another location for availability of ingredients/food items and better service. Glad I was able to check this place out, but wouldn't return. +unfriendly and unwelcome service +unavailability of food items read more

This is a great find out in SE DC, but it's menu is limited. If you just want a smoothie or pre-made juice, you are in luck. That is fine, as you have many options. They have a great pre-made choice of juices, and the menu for smoothies is extensive. There are no extras though - no different non-dairy milks or additional boosters. They have açaí and pitaya bowls, which is nice, and you can add toppings. There are also some vegetable patties and pastries, as well as pre-made cake slices in plastic containers from another local vegan company. There is pre-made parfait like desserts and fruit bowls. So there are some choices in the display case, but it's really not that enticing for me. If there are waffles, I could see the waffle maker, but there was no sign indicating they were serving any waffles on a Saturday morning. The fruit they use is frozen, including bananas, which makes for a good consistency for smoothies, but seeing it come out of the freezer in pre-packaged plastic was also not that enticing for me. They do have paper straws though, so that's nice and cool. Considering the price for these non-organic smoothies and juices, I would hope that they would use more ingredients that are fresh, rather than frozen. When I asked about a quick substitution/ omission of an ingredient, the staff person helping me seemed confused and couldn't answer my question about whether it makes the smoothie gluten-free without granola. It seemed to me that the staff could be better informed about the health and nutrition of the offerings, as I would assume people looking for juices or smoothies tend to be more concerned about this information. Hats off for operating a vegan business based on smoothies and juices. If I were in SE DC and looking for a healthier beverage, I would go here again. read more

This place never ceases to amaze me. The vibes are always amazing. The smoothies are always so good & they do exactly what you ask them (you'd be surprise how many places just do what they want, haha). I can't stop ordering the Bob Marley smoothie. It hits every time! I add things like maca or BCAAs - depending on how I'm feeling. Today was my first time trying their shots - I got the flu shot. Parking it terrible, lol. But, it's street parking all around. This place never has a long wait & I really appreciate that! 10/10 recommend! read more

Locations of this new juice bar are sprouting up all over, and stopping in to their Southeast outlet leaves little question of why. Admittedly, I'd certainly driven the highway over this locale quite a few times, but getting out of the car here was a different experience for me. That being said, the shop is nice, and it's not a far walk from the edge of the Anacostia River. Their menu is juices and smoothies but also a few food items, and it's all vegan. The waffle I tried was rather impressive:large, amply topped (they had four options and let me take three), and fluffy. A "Bob Marley" smoothie was not as outstanding, but nonetheless tasty and purportedly had some branched chain amino acids added. I took a veggie pattie to go; a fairly basic corn and carrot type of deal that did make for a helpful snack. I'm not one for juice cleanses, but as a simple cafe, this offers a place to get a plant-based breakfast/lunch in an area that previously did not have anything of the sort. I may try other locations, but given my occasional travel through this area I'd be quite happy to go back to this one again. read more

I've lived in the area for about year and just tried it for the first time. I ordered the Nipsey Blue smoothie which was to die for, juice and some shots. I decided to go back 2 days later and get the Nipsey Blue again but this time I went inside and noticed they had a bottle size so I was excited about that. Unfortunately I spent $21 on 1 juice and the smoothie in a bottle and the smoothie tasted nothing and looked nothing like what I got 2 days prior. Not sure how I feel about spending $30 on a smoothie, juice and shots especially if it's gonna be different every time. There also was 2/3 customers without masks and they weren't told they needed one. I understand all business is necessary overall and in times like this but so isn't the health of others. Hence the name of the business. read more

The chain is literally the worst. The lack customer service and lack of inventory on a daily is a problem. Will no longer be supporting this entity. Eastern market location literally has drinks written on paper. Anacostia never has anything. I've had enough. read more

I came in with a small group for lunch between meetings. We came during COVID to grab our food & go. The place was very clean & welcoming. We all ordered separately & the cashier greeted each of us in a personable & polite way. He also handled our rush with ease & grace. (The music was a vibe too, but I digress). I ordered the Bob Marley smoothie which was very tropical in flavor & left me wishing I got the biggest size instead of the medium. I also couldn't decide on the spinach or veggie patty, so I got them both as they came fresh out of the oven. The patties were bigger than I expected, so I ate one & saved the other for later. It was a close call, but the veggie patty was my favorite *chefs kiss*. I love that they offer healthy food selections for a fair price. 10/10 recommends! read more

I like coming here to get smoothies...they always taste so good. One thing I can't get pass though is the customer service. That's literally what make or break customer flow in a business. I picked up my smoothie this morning and was met with a rude individual who was working and on her cell phone at the same time. I don't know if she was purposely ignoring me or just too focused on her phone conversation that she didn't greet me after I greeted her(it's as simple as hi). I let her know that I was picking up a smoothie and she responded as if she was annoyed that I was even there. I then asked where I could get a straw and she annoyingly just pointed at them. VERY RUDE...I recommend you try the other locations first. read more

This place is delicious! Will definitely be back tomorrow morning ! Spinach piesBlack bean burger. It was delicious!

Turning Natural is probably the most successful DC local juice bar business and the original location is in historic Anacostia. On the main street of MLK, you'll see it's green sign and inviting tall glass windows. Once inside, order in the back. You can get a healthy smoothie, all natural pressed juice, a sandwich, a salad, or healthier-for-you snacks. The staff are friendly and there's plenty of seating from wall seating to window seating. Since it's local, organic, and better for you, the prices are a little steep, but alas. My pressed juice was just over $7. If you live in the area, it's THE business to support so come on in! read more

I absolutely love Turning Natural. The location I've visited many times is on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE. The owner Jerri Evans is so gracious and kind and the staff always project a bubbly effervescence that perks me up when I'm blah. This place doesn't just make energetic foods, juices and smoothies, they give positive energy out that I take with me and pass on to others. I love the creative names of their items several named after some of my favorite musicians. My favorite items are Ginger Aide and J Coal. I just grab and go but they will make anything on their menu or to order. If you're transitioning to vegan, vegetarian, on keto or similar meal regimens I highly recommend Turning Natural to bolster your endeavors. read more

Great smoothie spot! Amazing smoothie choices with local themed names (Muhammad Ali is my favorite), great juice options and delicious healthy veggie/spinach patties. Always friendly helpful service and location is great to kick off a morning run or day at the Anacostia park. Also the rewards program is a big perk and I've gotten a lot of free stuff using it. Only downside is parking or traffic on MLK as it intersects with Good Hope RD, so I would avoid stopping through during peak traffic times. read more

I love the Nipsey blue smoothie and the spinach pies. This location is the closet one to my house, unfortunately they're usually always busy which is great for their business but sucks for me because if I don't go when they first open then I'm out of luck on the spinach patties. I think this might be my favorite Turning Natural location. Even with the Forestville location having a parking lot, and a restroom and the H Street one for having restroom and the fact that it updated a long shuttered business. Turning Natural in the heart of Historic Anacostia is perfect for a Sunday morning or any day before or after going on a tour of Frederick Douglass' Cedar Hill. It's also not too far from the Anacostia Arts Center, We Act Radio, District Culture, and Check It Enterprises. The last time I came in I went for my favorite, the Blue Bear smoothie but unfortunately they were all out. After composing myself I ordered a Bob Marley and enjoyed it. Not as much as I would've if it was a Blue Bear but that's just me. I still haven't tried the Black Bean Burger but I will, soon. I did try the Dragon Fruit Bowl and it was pretty good. I love the Belly reward system. That incentivizes my Patty purchases. I liked the pleasant surprise that I get a free patty because I bought so many. Parking can be scarce sometimes since it's street parking but taking the bus alleviates all that. I would give it 5 stars but no restroom so that's that. I'm still a fan. read more

I've been here twice now. Once in 2018 and once the other day. And I was blown away both times. I mean this spot literally makes me want to move to Anacostia. One of my new favorite places! This is a solid place I can rely on in Southeast when I need a vegan lunch, snack, just want a juice, or have a sweet tooth. Food: The black bean burgers are delicious and you can add as many toppings as you like from the salad bar. Speaking of salad bar, you can build a salad starting at just $5. The vegan cakes are good, though overpriced. Veggie patties = yum yum yum! I still need to try the spinach kind. Drinks: The Reeses Pleases with cacao added in can really kill a dessert craving. I typically stick with the happy hemp smoothie or a green juice but there are lots of enticing options. *Budget a little more waiting time than you would expect if you're going in for something other than bottled juice read more

I pass this place often while biking up MLK and finally got a chance to stop by. (So glad a business like this exist in Anacostia now.) The veggie patty is amazing, I didn't miss the meat filling at all. My drink was the chill pill with guava and that was delicious too. They were very pleasant and I look forward to returning. Really love this place especially because it's in the heart of Southeast, DC. There aren't many food options outside of the typical Chinese or Moms n Pops type carryouts this side of the river, so to come across this all vegan spot was comforting. I've visited a few times and had been meaning to write my review a while back so here goes. My #1 issue is that they are always out of something. I visited 3x in one week and on each trip they were out of ingredients for the "blue bear" smoothie. Twice last week I went in for the vegan waffle only for them to be out of ingredients. I mean, how often do y'all make grocery store runs? Sigh... Staff: most staff are friendly; however, none of them seem to be morning people. I like a "good morning" or "hey how are you" especially when I'm spending over $40+ on food items. Store: always clean but they could do a better job with the salad bar area. They play a lot of inappropriate music via their speaker system. I don't really wanna hear Cardi B while waiting for my order at 7:30 am :-/ Parking: is the absolute worst but I just double park, put on my hazards and run in. Using their app to order ahead of time isn't a time saver. You go in and it's still never ready. I'll be honest, I can only give them a 3 star rating but I'll keep going back. The pressed juices are delicious and smoothies are just as delectable...as long as they have the ingredients available. read more

I just left the MLk location and was compelled to leave a review on my experience. That was my first time at that location and it was not pleasant at all. I don't know her name, but i was assisted by a light skin woman with faux locs. When we walked in we were not greeted, just stared at. Her energy and vibe was plain nasty to say the least and I did not appreciate it at all. I was honestly very taken aback by her demeanor. My friend who was with me also agreed. Every response to our questions was snappy and she acted as if she did not want to help us or even be at work. Like she had much better things to do. She was also talking on the phone. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. I am hoping she was just having a bad day, and this was an isolated incident because nobody deserves that kind of treatment. 5/28/22 @1200 read more
