The cafe was so tropical in fact, that the whole place smelled like a whole bunch of people (at least 7) just lathered themselves in a 3 millimeter thick layer of SPF100 sunscreen in front of my nasal cavity. Why does this place smell so much like sunscreen? I am concerned. Anyways, I got their protein smoothies that's dubiously labeled Peanut Paradise with pea protein powder. Solid smoothie - would drink again for a nice treat to go along with a bolus of protein. Chipotle chicken club was dope - everything I expected. Decent amount of chicken, generous chipotle sauce, and a healthy amount of tomatoes of lettuce, all wrapped in a fluffy, warm, and chewy flatbread. The bowls are on the smaller end, but they do pack in the base açaí/slush(?). The fruits are also arranged in an aesthetic way. Bathroom was clean too - very pleasant experience, mhmm. With this week's heat wave, Thursday felt like the perfect excuse to finally treat myself. The Birthday Cake Smoothie is made with almond milk, banana, vanilla, granola, maple syrup, plant protein, and topped with a dollop of blue CocoWhip, a cherry twist, and sprinkles. I swapped the plant protein for whey protein, and it absolutely hit the spot. It was creamy, refreshing, and definitely gave me the birthday cake vibes I was hoping for without being overly sweet. I ordered ahead through the app, and my smoothie was ready right on time. I also appreciated their pickup setup. Completed orders are placed in a freezer at the counter, so you can simply grab your drink and keep it moving. Quick, easy, and perfect for busy mornings. One thing I love about this location is being inside Union Market. There are plenty of places to sit if you want to enjoy your smoothie or bowl. Now, if you've ever been to Union Market on a weekend or evening, you already know finding a seat can feel like a competitive sport. But in the mornings, it's much calmer with far less foot traffic, making it a great time to visit. Price-wise, it's about the same as the South Block near my office in Arlington. Is it expensive? Sure. But honestly, that's just the reality of smoothie and açaí bowl spots these days. At least here, the quality, convenience, and fresh ingredients make it feel worth the splurge every once in a while. Ordering online is relatively easy and every time I've done it my salad(s) have been ready when I arrive. I like the variety of toppings and options they offer. I do wish I could switch out one type of protein for another without being charged (for example, I'd rather have grilled chicken on the Asian chicken salad over the breaded chicken) and I wish the salad dressings were slightly bolder, but overall the salads are tasty and fresh. The service has also been fantastic every time I've gone. Most recently, the online ordering platform was glitching a bit and I accidentally ordered two of the same salad instead of two different ones. I went to pick it up, and the employee did ask to confirm I wanted 2 of the exact same things. When we realized what happened, he made my husbands salad and let me keep both of mine. I offered to pay for his salad since it was my error, but they were gracious and let me take all 3 salads for the price of 2. The coconut made the flavor excellent. My cup was topped off with the leftovers that didn't fit (until I sipped). Yum. This is a wonderful treat and not something I would drink all the time. I adored not being rushed out of the location. Several people had laptops and lingered as well. There is wasted space that could be filled with tables and chairs, but I think it is intentional. The store is across the street from Busboys and Poets (and about two blocks from metro).

From a convenience standpoint, this location is ideal. It is the closest to where I work and easily within a 10-minute walk, making it a practical option for quick grab-and-go meals on busy days. However, due to repeated rude and harsh interactions with staff, I stopped visiting this location more than three years ago. Recently, I decided to give it another try to see whether things had improved. Regrettably, the experience was even worse than before. It is disappointing that the same two employees continue to interact with the public in this manner without apparent consequence. As a result, I will be taking my business elsewhere and would not recommend this location to others.
