    Croissant Sandwich

So special, great prices and well made food. I had the banana bread and it was moist and full of chocolate chips and less than 5 dollars. Huge win. The staff is the best, seriously. I had the croissant sandwich the other day and I can't wait to try all the other ones. Thank you guys so much! I can't wait to sit outside when it gets nicer out. The dog wall is a sweet touch too.

Delightful cafe on Capitol Hill with an extensive coffee and smoothie drink menu as well as a nice breakfast and lunch menu. Charming owners. And if you love dogs, this place is for you! There is a wall of photos of canine visitors to the cafe. Also has outdoor seating for warm weather days.

I was so impressed by how much they had on their menu! I'll have to go back because they have quite a few sweets. The best thing would be if they opened up online ordering and had their menu online!

My first time here I ordered a simple hot chocolate and an oatmeal cookie ,Great experience. Coming again for a second time , I ordered a vanilla chai with a blueberry muffin. I ain't mad at it. Also if you come enough they have a loyalty card and can earn a free drink .

Really good smoothie, filled to the brim. What a nice mid-day pick-me-up! It was very quick.

Really liked this cozy little café! They have a ton of food options -- I got the salmon avocado toast and it was super good and filling. The chai latte hit the spot, especially with how windy it was that day. The vibe's nice, pet-friendly (they've got cute pics of customers' pets everywhere), and the staff were really sweet. Service was quick too!

One part is a coffee shop and the other is the actual restaurant. The coffee shop is adorbs and the restaurant isn't as cute but the food is very good. Very low cost for home made food!

    Excellent Borsch Soup! Generous portion.

I really liked their borsch, and the portion was generous! Also great honey cake (medovyk)

A few blocks away from Union Station is a 2022 cafe started by two women from Belarus. When I stopped in for a pastry and coffee, one of the owners was behind the counter. She seemed invested in the cafe and very friendly. The space itself is small with a few seats along the wall inside and a few tables on the outside patio. In terms of food and drink, I feel like I made rookie mistakes. Their pastries were scattered in different places on the counter so I ordered what I first saw- a chocolate cookie. It was small, dry, and hard. To drink, I ordered a large Snickers latte. It tasted more unique than a regular latte, but it wasn't amazing. I really want to like this place and will return to order the food Yelpers recommend. Until then...

This place is the real deal. First things first. I ordered a sesame bagel with cream cheese, and it absolutely hit the spot. The bagel was fresh, perfectly chewy, and had a great crust with just the right amount of sesame seeds (I'm picky about that!). The cream cheese was generously spread and super creamy. Honestly, if you blindfolded me, I might have thought I was back in NY. To go with it, I had an iced latte with oat milk and vanilla. It was delicious, not overly sweet, and really smooth! exactly what I wanted, especially on a hot D.C. morning. The staff at Pearl's were incredibly friendly and patient, even though I asked a few (probably annoying) questions about their bagels and cream cheese flavors. They really seem to care about their bagels and their customers, which goes a long way. The shop itself is small, with just a handful of seats, but I had no trouble finding a spot when I was there. I could see it getting a little packed during a busy morning rush, but the vibe is cozy and relaxed. It's definitely a great place to grab a quick bite or coffee, whether you're hanging solo or with a friend!

I had a plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese. As a Jersey girl, I have never had a bagel in this area that beats the ones from home, but this came as close as I think I am going to get. The outside was crisp and the inside soft. The cream cheese was delicious. I definitely will be back to explore the rest of the menu sometime. I will say the shop is small, so you may not be able to sit down and eat your meal when it gets busy. Plan to take your items to go!

I've been a few times over the years, and here are some notes from my most recent visit. I got a last minute reservation for 4 people at 7 PM on a Sunday, thanks to Resy notifications. They sat us in the back, which is not the best seating area, but sometimes you take what you can get. The back area is not the most spacious or prettiest area. I sampled a carafe of red wine, a cheese plate, the delicious (free) bread basket, the black bass grenobloise, and trout amandine. The carafe was perfectly fine; I'm not into wine enough to judge. The cheese plate ($6.5 per piece) was an okay size and came with some honey, jam, marcona almonds, and four slices of bread -- the bread was different from the white and cranberry-walnut in the main bread basket; this one was a smaller loaf, sliced thin, with some grains and apricot (?) in it. There are apparently 11 different cheeses to pick from, which the waiter had to recite to us. A small, printed cheese menu would be welcome here. We only heard about 5 of the cheeses before we decided to just pick some, because who wants to listen -- and remember -- the spiels about 11 different cheeses? The Black Bass Grenobloise ($34) had pomme puree, capers, and lemon. It was ok but I preferred the trout. The Trout Amandine ($36) had toasted almonds (lots), haricots verts, lemon brown butter. It was a classic rendition and it was great. Service was friendly, if a little slow.

I visited as part of the full experience -- dinner downstairs at Birch & Barley, then up to Churchkey for drinks -- and honestly, it's one of the best evenings I've had in DC. Churchkey itself is everything a great bar should be. The beer selection is absolutely unreal -- hundreds of carefully curated labels spanning every style, region, and flavor profile you can imagine. What sets it apart is that the staff actually knows the menu. Our server walked us through a few options based on what we liked and landed us on perfect picks both times. That kind of genuine expertise is rare. The tavern pizzas from the wood-fired oven were a wonderful surprise -- thin, crispy, and the perfect companion to a cold draft. The smash burger also deserves a mention: simple, well-executed, and hits the spot. The vibe is warm and lively without being overwhelming. Great for a date, a group, or even just sitting at the bar solo with a good beer and good conversation with the bartender.
