Tried this place for the first time. The salmon salad with the bbq burger, truffle fries and a hot fudge desert were all to die for. Food was phenomenal. Ordered two cocktails which were carefully crafted to perfection. Eric our server was impressive, he really went above and beyond for us. During COVID, we were able to dine outside. They were setting up tables and lights on the sidewalk when we arrived at 5:30. The menu was limited. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and order the Tomato Basil soup! It is SO GOOD! We shared a bowl but wish I'd had my own! Our server forgot the toasted bread but we asked and it arrived. I got the Smokestack Lightning pulled pork sandwich with salad instead of chips. It was really good. He got the Light My Fire burger which he enjoyed. Service took a little long. A hidden gem located in the busy neighborhood of Ventura Blvd. It has a very welcoming façade. I love the wide windows, the wooden bench prominently placed in the sidewalk, and the beautiful vibrant, flowers of bougainvillea which also provides shade to the bench. As soon as I came in, I was immediately greeted and assisted by a friendly guy whose name I learned is John. I ordered the Pulled pork sliders made with house-smoked pulled BBQ pork slathered in special tangy sauce with some spicy slaw on toasted brioche slider buns. With that, I also ordered a side of French fries. The sliders and fries were pretty good and it's the perfect combination to truly enjoy this meal. Finding a parking spot can be an issue as expected in this side of Ventura Blvd. What I did was to park at the Big 5 Sporting Goods which is just next door. I appreciate a well constructed burger with perfect gourmet buns and ingredients. 100% grass fed beef from Marin, California. The interior is so lovely. I love the sophisticated sleek summer of love vibe meets topanga and industrial loft feel. But unfortunately it is off limits at the moment due to COVID 19. Thankfully they're open for social distancing pick up- basically you call for your order, then call when you've arrived to the pick up spot which has a chalkboard sign with the number, then they put your order out on a table and then you can pick up your order. Three stars for the food: chicken wings were tough, overcooked, and too sticky and sweet; parmesan truffle fries were just regular fries -- nothing special; Mac and cheese pops were yummy and the best of the three munchies. I came here for dinner with a friend a while back. It's a decent spot to go to for dinner and they have a bar inside. Good spot for a business meal. The restaurant is nestled between other shops along Ventura Place. Parking can be tricky depending on time of day. There's street parking on Ventura Place, and a little further up there's a Chase parking lot that I park at sometimes if I can't find street parking (shhh). The space is very simple and straightforward, not super spacious but also doesn't feel cramped. The restaurant is in a square shape, with a bar along the back. The chairs are unfortunately not super comfortable. It's not too loud in there so it's good for having a conversation. I ordered the Chef Jay's Jerk Chicken which comes with a sweet potato puree and sauteed kale. I thought it was okay but I probably wouldn't order it again. My friend got a vegan wrap, I think it was called Shaggy Lentil or something, and that was much heartier and pretty good too. After dinner, we walked down to McConnell's Ice Cream which is just a few shops down. Tasty way to wrap up dinner :) I would come here again but it probably wouldn't be my first pick. read more

It's has been a minute since I've felt this discriminated against in a restaurant, especially in 2023. I stumbled upon Turning fork last night and had a great experience with Eric, our waiter (he's not who I'm referring to in this complaint he was great). Last night the food, ambiance and good amateur music was appreciated. Therefore I decided to come back a second night in a row. However tonight was a completely different experience. I had a glass of wine and an appetizer while I listened to "blues music," which is historically and culturally tied to black Americans yet I feel I was discriminated against because of this and I find great irony in that. My $30 tab came and I paid with a $50 dollar bill to which my waiter asks if I need change? I replied yes... (to assume I didn't need change is kind of presumptuous..he expected a 66.7% tip?) He then comes back and tells me the restaurant only has $14 dollars in change. He refused to give me my change due back. I've never had a restaurant tell me they were missing the 20% they felt they were owed. I was a party of 2 not large party where an automatic gratuity was owed. Not to mention I had every intention of leaving more than a 20% tip. I have waited tables and worked in hospitality for over 20 years and know how to tip WELL, as well as the racial discrimination that comes with assuming black people don't tip. Our waiter (I don't have his name but a young Asian man with glasses. And I wish I knew his name because I wouldn't have even mentioned his race but I want this establishment to know who I'm speaking of) blatantly assumed I was not going to tip, so he opted to just take his 20% he felt due. I gave him three dollars more to prove a point when he returned part of my change. It's beyond frustrating to feel you have to tip more to prove a point. I refuse to believe a bar and busy restaurant only has $14 dollars cash on hand. read more

Overall I like the vibe of this place. Parking was metered outside and on a Thursday night was fairly easy to find. I checked in with Yelp and got a free order of either fries or chips, we chose the fries. My friend and I decided to split the beet salad and get our own mains. I asked the waitress what she'd choose between the Jerk Chicken and Spiced between the Spiced Ahi, she said the chicken. My friend got a burger but since we already had the free Yelp fries, she asked to forgo the fries that came with her burger. First off, the fries were really tasty that we ended up asking for the fries back. Salad was tasty but small. My chicken was so so, didn't have a whole lot of flavor. The kale wasn't all that tasty either but the sweet potato was good. I think my friend enjoyed her burger. Nothing on the dessert menu sounded very appealing to either of us. Overall the place was cool, nice staff and good fries. Food to me was just okay, kinda pricey for what you got. Maybe I just ordered wrong? So this place is really cute and the food was pretty good but for some reason, we had a really weird experience here. My fiance and I brought his parents here for an early mothers day celebration dinner this past Tuesday since we saw that Tuning Fork offers some really good vegetarian options. There was only one waitress working for the whole restaurant (the place is small) and she was both seating people and taking orders. For some reason, we got the feeling we weren't really welcome there. I'd hate to think it's because we're Asian but we really had no other explanation. She was friendly to other tables but was very cold to us. When she was nice, it felt like she was forcing it. It's not like we asked tons of questions or ordered a small amount of food, and even so that's no reason for bad service. This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the area. My fiancé and I usually split the "light my fire" burger and WOW it is a must try! The food was amazing. I had their tomatoes bisque that came with a delicious basil drizzle. Their Oh So Cheesy was like no other grill cheese, made with their special caramelized onions. We hopped in one night looking for food after our hike. Tuning Fork is a cute little gastropub. It has a bar vibe but there's seriously good grub inside. They're most popular for their burger and fries but they have a lots of other options. Their menu is small but big enough to satisfy everyone's diet. For your burger you have a choice of grass fed beef, a turkey patty, or a vegan lentil patty. They even have gluten free buns if you choose. It's nice to have options especially when it comes to your food! My turkey burger was nice and juicy packed with flavor. The french fries were hot, thin, and crispy, just how I like. I ordered the tomato soup which was so creamy and delicious. It didn't quite taste healthy but I was ok with that. Tuning Fork has live music playing so the vibe inside is chill, even though it's loud inside. This place is quite small so if you blink you might miss it. I am NEVER stepping foot in this establishment ever again! First: I don't think they are very friendly with other ethnicities as when we walked in, we asked where we could sit and the waitress that took our order just said very dismissively "anywhere". Later on, two white ladies came in and they were greeted with warm and friendly gestures, offering them wine and what not. 2nd The waitress took our order and when I placed my order for a $24/27 dollar burger I specifically asked her if the burger came with fries. Her answer was "Yes". She then took off to the kitchen after taking our orders, and while she was passing the bar section she randomly started asking my husband "How would you like your Burger cooked?" Uh, you just literally took our order and had already gave you those instructions. My husband said "Well" again. She proceeded to ask "you are ok with Beef, right?" Wait, what??? Lol I'm sure we read the menu right but never saw anything other than beef. And I'm not sure why we were going over this information now instead of when we placed the order. Whatever! Then later she said "Fries are additional $2.00" and my husband who was caught off guard said "ok". But I brought to her attention the fact that she had already said this was included. Instead of saying "You know what, I'm really sorry, I made a mistake and I forgot that fries were $2.00 extra" or something like that she just started screaming things and tried to put the blame on us. I left it alone and ate. When the check arrived, I confronted her about the discrepancy in pricing. she had told me it was included but from the back of the bar she started shouting prices instead of walking over to us and clarifying. She proceeded with a tirade of how she's human and how she made a mistake and she went on to ask me "don't you ever make mistakes at work?" Pure defensive attitude when a simple "I'm sorry" would have put the whole misunderstanding to bed. The right thing would've been to just call her manager or boss and asked them to remove it since it was her error. I had no problem paying the small portion of fries for $2.00 dollars but it was her approach to the situation and how condescending and unprofessional she was - the principal of the matter - that I'm upset about. My husband was more patient and tried to explain to her what I was trying to explain and he was even kind enough to tip her when I would've not even bothered. We paid, asked for a copy of the receipt and as I was walking out she even disdainfully shouted "good luck!". What kind of customer service is carried out at this restaurant. Are they just racist against Hispanic people and just don't care about professionalism? Either way, I won't be back. Too bad you still have to give them stars in order to process this review, otherwise they would get NONE. read more

Some of the best meats that I've had in LA! All grass fed beef (thank you for choosing well raised animals and sustainable practices). We had the short rib which was phenomenal!! The meat was perfectly tender, soft and easily fell apart! The cauliflower purée was also very tasty. We paired that with the jerk chicken and subbed out the sweet potato purée for more of that cauliflower goodness. The only feedback is that the cooked veggies were quite raw. I prefer that too over cooked however it did take away slightly from the texture and integration of the meal. For starter we had the beet salad which was simple yet tasty with Humbolt Fog goat cheese. Overall this was such a tasty meal and the service was fantastic by a true gentleman - John. Yet another trendy, over-priced restaurant with mediocre food in Studio City. While I really enjoyed the atmosphere and ambiance, the prices were not justified by great tasting food. Tuning Fork is really more of a fancy place to take a date, rather than what we were expecting as a gastropub or larger-scale restaurant. Tuning Fork had a dark, romantic feel to it, which made the mood warm and cozy. The entire restaurant only had about 12 tables, and 6 seats at the bar. This place is definitely on the smaller, intimate side of things, though the mirrors lining both sides of the restaurant made it seem bigger than it was. Came here last night for a late dinner, and was not impressed by the food. My friend and I ordered the smokestack lightning ($16) and the tf ratatouille ($15). Since we checked in on Yelp, we got a free munchie of our choice. We decided to go with the smokestack BBQ pork tacos. I was all in with the pulled pork! All in all, we were both generally disappointed with our meal. The pulled pork, though it had an interesting flavor, tasted extremely salty to me. My friend's ratatouille was mostly marinara sauce, and unimpressive. I don't mind paying $20 for a meal, but if I'm going to pay that amount, I expect the food to at least taste good. Maybe I'm being too tough on them, or I came on an off-night. The positives: Live music started around 9:30pm (a guitarist/singer), which was a nice touch and very enjoyable. Our waitress was very pleasant, the food came out quick, and service was attentive for the most part. The ambiance and atmosphere was definitely above average, and upscale. Went in to the check out the Tuning Fork on Monday night for Happy Hour. It has a nice ring to it. The place was moderately busy, so I decided to pull up a seat to the bar. I was greeted by friendly wait staff who offered me the drink menu, full dinner menu, and the evening's specials. I chose the Hefeweizen on draft, along with the Fish and Chips special. The space was small but nice. Not too loud, plenty of bar space with a decent sized TV showing the game. The beer arrived first and it was tasty, although, I think the temperature of the keg was slightly warm. Not enough for me to send it back, but I did observe the female patron seated next to me make a comment to her husband about the Stella being warmer. She also proceeded to order a glass of ice and drop a few cubes in, so I know I wasn't the only one that noticed the slightly warmer temperature. The food arrived pretty quickly and it was a nice sized portion of one of Britain's finest pub fares. The fish was tasty, flash fired with a nice crisp batter, flaky, and the malt vinegar was a fantastic. The fries were thin cut and came with an amazing chipotle aoli which was outstanding. The problem was, the three battered fish pieces were placed on top of the fries, making them soggy and wet. A big no no, which dropped the review a star for me. The should have put the fries separately (paper lined dish?) in order to prevent the sogginess. The overall experience was good enough to have me come back in the future and seek out other items on the menu. read more

We love how there were only two tables available to sit inside and we were one of them. Chef Jay's Wings were absolutely amazing, the Whipped Cauliflower Russet Mashed were light fluffy and full of flavor, Tomato Basil Soup was delicious but the Light My Fire Burger stole the show and was one of the best burgers I've ever had! Now moving on to desert... I couldn't choose between the chocolate creme brûlée or the bread pudding so I ordered both, the bread pudding was hands down the winner!
