Very slow service even though there was literally only 3 small groups of people dining (including my table) at the time I was there. Food prices are very high, especially for a lunch meal. For grilled cheese and a soup- no drink, it was $19! Wow! Unbelievable. I have to admit though, the tomato soup was extremely good! Probably the best I have ever had. However, a cup is not worth $8 like I was charged. Ridiculous. Empty water cups at our table were ignored but eventually refilled (table shares at bottle to pour room temperature water themselves). Gave server a $20 bill for my $19 and some change bill. Server never came back with change, nor the receipt which I turn into work. So its not about the small change I need but the principle of the matter she kept the change without confirming it was part of her tip. Not right. After waiting approx 5 min, table decided to approach her to get our receipts. I never got my change but still decided to leave her a tip in addition to the change she kept. Lol. In conclusion, due to the slow service, over priced food, room temp water, minimal server attention and limited menu items to choose from....I personally will not return. I discovered this place by a mere chance when my friends and I decided to go out for a drink and a quick bite. To my surprise,e they had a large variety of food options and even better wine and beer. The burgers were the most impressive, not only due to the large size but also the juiciness of the meat. Although they have salads and appetizers, everyone should try the burgers (a glass of beer doesn't hurt either). Had a great visit, didn't even know this place was here but when I walked in I instantly felt comfortable. I got 2 waves and 2 smiles when I came though the door, keep in mind they weren't greeters but a bartender and maybe a manager. The menu was good with a lot of items to choose from. It's got great class, personality, and energy. Seating was very easy, I sat at the bar and watched some shows and chatted with the bartender. This is around the corner from our home and decided to finally try it after a thousand times of walking past. With such a good rating and being one of the top restaurants in Studio City, we expected better. I wasn't feeling all that hungry so i just had one of the flat bread pizzas, which unfortunately tasted like it was frozen or reheated...even if it was made fresh it didnt taste fresh at all. My husband had one of the burgers which oddly came in a long roll? Round burger patty, long bun...doesnt make sense. He liked it though which is a plus! We had good service right up until a group of people who seemed a little important sat on the table next to us. I have a feeling it was the owners with some friends from some of the conversation I overheard. So after that, we were kind of ignored and had to get the waitresses attention whenever we needed her. After searching for a new and fun dinner place, the Tuning Fork seemed to be "it", so six of us had dinner here on 2/9/19. My review ranges from 3-4 stars, but ultimately lands on three. Pros: 1) service was very friendly, but off a bit (it seemed that there was a lot of staff, but only 1-2 servers); 2) most of the food had great taste...tomato soup, burgers, and vegan shepherd's pie; and 3) cozy bar vibe. Cons: 1) seating is on hard wooden benches and chairs, and all of us experienced pain by the time we left; 2) pricing is high, for example the burger with chips is $15, and $2 more for fries; 3) portions - burgers were excellent portions, but the vegan shepherd's pie at $15 was hardly a meal portion...it should be listed under "lite" bites, or at least add a veggie or salad; 4) they had no Diet Coke (ran out of syrup...not a deal breaker, but disappointing); and 4) volume, the restaurant was 1/2 plus full and it was so loud (all concrete ceilngs). I've been here a couple times, and am going again! The first time I came I had a burger which was pretty good. The second time I went with the 3 Bean Soup and the TF Chop. The soup was good, the toast it came with was decent, but, unnecessary. The TF Chop was amazing. The salmon was grilled perfectly, the ratio of vegetables, to fish, to crunch was perfect, and the dressing was light. I often feel silly getting salads in restaurants because it feels like something I could make at home, but this was not the case here- this salad was special. Easily in my top 5 favorite salads I've ever had. My friend and I also shared the cheese plate which was pretty good too. Both times I went here service was excellent. Had my birthday celebration with friends here. Our server was really great. He recommended a beer I enjoyed. The place was empty so I'm not sure why the sliders and Brussel sprouts were burnt but I would recommend this restaurant. Awesome food, ABYSMAL service. Let me start with the good: everything we ordered was great: macaroni balls, wings, burgers, sandwiches, hummus, all quite tasty. The restaurant is cute. Now the bad: everything else. The servers have this very condescending air about them, just totally above it all. One person in my party was going to order her burger medium well, and the waitress ACTUALLY told her "just so you know, your order's going to hold up everyone else's food if you get it well-done." Our burger-eater then opted for medium. Didn't matter, it still took at least 40 minutes for our food to come. Granted, we were a larger party, but the restaurant is small, and at least 12 people who had come in after us were eating long before we got our food. It was really hard to get a hold of our server, even in such a tiny place, so we ended up asking another waitress for another carafe of water, she practically sneered at us and said "let me find YOUR server." How dare we ask a server for service! Anyway, the food took so long, that two people had to leave before it even came out, and we had to have it boxed up to take back to them. We asked our waitress a couple of times about our food, mentioning that they needed to go, and she seemed generally unbothered. It wasn't until they actually left the building without their meals that she finally realized she was messing up, and started trying to act nice. Too little too late. On top of all that, when we made the reservation, we let them know that we were celebrating a birthday. We were told that we'd be receiving a complimentary dessert in honor of the occasion. Do you think it ever came? Even when someone directly told our waitress that we were celebrating a birthday, she got all giddy and said "oh, cool, my birthday's coming up, too!" Really? That's it? I have been to this place about 6 month ago for lunch and loved it. So I though I'd give it a try for dinner. We arrived and the place was quite empty, only 2 people at the bar and one other table waiting for their food, so we expected it to be a short wait for our food. Needless to say that was Not the case. First our waiter came to or table after 5 min and gave us some water. We were ready to order, but he didn't bother to ask, and just continued serving wine at the bar... We had to sit with the menues open and ready to order for 10 minutes before he took the hint and came to our table. We ordered the Tuna and Jerk chicken. Then we waited and waited. The bell rang at the kitchen after 30 minutes, but to our disapointment it was the starters for the other table (who had already ordered before we came into the restaurant). After aprox. 45 minutes our food arrived. The jerk chicken was no great experince, quite bland. And the Tuna was sooo overly salted. But I was to hungry to ask for it to be redone, and the waiter didn't really ask us how the meal was until after we finished the plate. (which we did finish, cause we where starving) When the reastaurant was so emty there was really no excuse for the waiter to be so little attentive, and we recieved no apology for the slowness of the kitchen. We also have a seven month daughter. I understand taking a baby to a place like this normally isn't ideal, but what the heck? The website sounds inviting! We walk in around dinner time because we like to eat. Now, if the place was busy, I wouldn't want to bring my baby into a place like this. People bumping her stroller here and there. But only three tables were occupied. Of the remaining 10+, half had "reserved" signs scattered about and the others were purely empty. Or they were seating ghosts. The hostess greeted us and right away I could see that panic in her face, like we were the Lohans. She ran in back for a couple of minutes when finally Moby the manager appeared and gave us an "oooh" and "aaah" type of answer without really saying everything. The subtext said it all that our kind was not welcome here. Mind you, Stout and Blue Dog Tavern previously could have turned us away justifiably because they have the unfortunate problem of being busy. Instead, they went out of their way to accomodate us. My girlfriend dined here last night. She is highly allergic to sesame (she has an EPI pen in her purse at all times). Her waitress, LISA or LINDA, told her several times that her burger had no sesame. She tasted tahini in it and asked three times and waitress said it no, there was no sesame in it. 10 minutes later the waitress comes back after my girlfriend ate her meal and told her there was actually tahini in the burger. The waitress and the manager JOHN were not apologetic, did not comp the entire dinner and were rude. They even tried to charge her for the wine that she could not drink because of the 3 Benadryl pills she had to take. I would not recommend anyone with food allergies to dine here, there are several other restaurants in Studio City that take better care of their patrons. read more

Food: 3.5 stars - wasn't as good as other burger places we have had like the standing room for instance. Considering the average price of entrees (13-17) compared to how it ultimately tasted I think 3.5 is fair because the mushroom truffle burger really missed it's called to savor in awesome mushroom flavor (the pickle was unnecessary and so was the sauce). This place depends on the sauces to make food awesome - why would a true flavor enthusiast even bother? On a related note, their Mac and cheese pops are pretty good. Ambiance: 4 stars, private enough to have a conversation but the hostess did a questionable thing by placing six gaggling teenage girls across from us so that we couldn't feel the liberty to be really romantic. Plus I saw a few ants crawl onto my clutch I had on the table; that ain't a picnic! While it was nice there were still some drawbacks. Ultimate verdict: 3 Stars for mediocre food at inflated prices but good service and ambiance overall making this an OK date night in the valley. I have not been here for dinner. This review is for my experience today, Easter Sunday. I rode my bike to the farmers market and happened upon this new establishment. I was perusing the menu out front when an attractive man walked past me and into the restaurant. He said over his shoulder "Take it from me, the food is amazing." I was pretty certain he was either the owner or chef (turns out the latter) and thought that was cute. So, I stayed for lunch. What did I order? The Mississippi Half-Step, which is half a cheese sandwich, tomato soup and a salad. Now, I ask you - how often would you order such a mundane meal out? And how fantastic would you expect it to be? Me personally? I had zero expectations. I was just hungry and that seemed reasonable for a lunch (although, I do try not to eat bread - but it's served on sourdough here, so I was sold). Let me tell you something. When someone uses fresh ingredients and prepares food well, even a mundane meal can be elevated to gourmet. My meal was exceptional. The half sandwich, by the way, is big enough to be a whole sandwich. I'm on Weight Watchers and I took the hit - scarfed the whole thing. It's just bread and cheese, but it's good cheese (sharp cheddar) and well prepared. He grilled it but ever so lightly. There was no grease in that sandwich. I added pickles to it, just because I love pickles, but you need nothing to make that sandwich any better a grilled cheese! Then, the salad - lettuce and tomato with a (fresh) basil vinaigrette. I almost called my waitress over to order a whole one. Yup...that good. Fresh, flavorful and just simple. I think the basil made it top notch. No bottled crap dressing, I can assure you. Lastly, the soup. Oh...the SOUP. I don't know how it was made or really what was in it other than tomatoes. I suspect some cream was added and there was a tiny drop or two of oil on top (which may have been truffle oil, now that I think about it). Whatever...I'm going to crave that soup until I can get back to this place for another bowl of it. Yup...that good. I cannot wait to drag my beer drinking buddies to this place. It's hardly noticeable, in fact I've walked and driven by it several times in total ignorance of the glorious gastro offerings within. Went last night and had the TF Chop, which is a fabulous variation of an Asian fusion salad. Soba noodles, greens, cucumber, salmon, miso dressing. To. Die. For. Fabulous texture, flavors, and presentation. I also had a glass of Cabernet that was stellar. Bonus?? **FREE munchie appetizer with Yelp check in!** We got the truffle fries. Amazing. They came with a truffle dip instead of on the fries, so they weren't soggy at all. Beautifully crisped with a dash of salt. My husband had one of the burgers and said it was easily one of the best burgers he's ever had. Perfectly cooked medium rare with a house chipotle sauce and grilled onions, etc. He also got a Golden Road citrus lager. All was amazing. Everything You Want in a Gastropub! The Tuning Fork offers great craft beers on tap and an excellent bottle selection. The food was phenomenal. Their fish sandwich is the best I've had. The batter is perfectly seasoned and the housemade tarter sauce & pickles are the perfect finishing touches. Their tomato soup (served with grilled cheese) is creamy & just ridiculous. The chipotle/sriracha wings make you wonder why you don't see these two pepper sauces together more often. The whole menu looks fantastic and I can't wait to try everything. After getting my first colonic (how's that for starting a review), I came to Tuning Fork. I didn't think I would have much of an appetite after going through a grueling hour of colon irrigation, so I told my husband who valiantly escorted me to aforementioned unpleasantly, that he could pick any restaurant he wanted to eat afterwards. Of course, my dumb luck, I was starving after my hydrotherapy and he picked a restaurant, which was mainly centered on sandwiches and burgers. I'd rather be locked in a small dark hole in the floor with a rabid sewer sized rat that be force fed sandwiches. Weird, yes, I've been told, thanks. Now, Tuning Fork is such a cute place, it has really nice big sturdy wooden tables, a very earthy décor, and I enjoyed every aspect of their design and presentation down to the font on the menu. Unfortunately for me, most of that font was spelling out S.A.N.D.W.I.C.H. I had been eating a ton of salads and vegetables in preparation for my aforementioned colonic so that's the last thing I wanted, but note, there are salads on the menu. There was also a salmon dish, and a few other dinner type entrees but I don't want to dig a $30 hole for a quick lunch. I wound up ordering a cup of cauliflower, leek, and pureed soup. Now, I love soup, but I like soup with chunks in it, not baby food. I know, I know, people love a great gazpacho, etc., but it's not my thing. If I could have microwaved the luke warm mush more and crushed about ten thousand saltine crackers in that soup, I'd have been over the moon. But as is, I swallowed the whole cup in one gulp just to make it go away and not offend anyone, or make my husband feel worse for taking me to sandwich hell. He ordered the BBQ pork sandwich, he liked it, and I tried not to look at it directly in the eye. At about 2PM the place was filling up and I'm certain they do very well, and I love the look of it all, but it's just not my type of food. I would like to note though that when we looked at the photos on Yelp, we didn't see much of the food in the photos on the actual menu, so maybe they have a limited lunch menu or maybe a rotating menu. I went to this restaurant today with my girlfriends since I had heard some great reviews. The food was great and we even got to sample "deviled eggs" which was absolutely amazing! I went last night (on a Wednesday), and it was surprisingly busy, which is nice-- means it's popular. What's not nice though -- the staff isn't prepared for a full restaurant on a weeknight. CONS: - Not much parking. Just metered street parking which you have to pay for until 8pm. - The restaurant is REALLY loud and you have to yell to talk to people who are literally right next to you.(even when there isn't live music, it's super loud). - The food for us took an hour to come out. AN HOUR. --- I even told them to bring my fries out first if they were done, but they didn't listen or they didn't remember. When my fries did get to the table, they were lukewarm and definitely seemed like they had been sitting inside waiting for my turkey burger to join it on the plate. - The food looked great, but was nothing really special. - The Gobbler was pretty dry. Strong mustard taste (which is good if you like dijon). - When we asked for the check, they took a reaaaally long time. We ended up having to walk up to the bar to get it. PROS: - They filled our waters very frequently. - When they served us, the staff were all very nice. - Ambiance is nice. - They have live music. Conclusion: Eh. Nice to have a new little gastro in the neighborhood for lunch. I will first get off my chest my own personal pet peeve, which is a rectangular room with hard surfaces for the floor, walls, table, and ceiling. There were about seven people in there for lunch, and the noise was deafening to my sensitive musician ears. For the love of god, please put in a few absorptive acoustic clouds. Now, on the the food. BBQ tots were a great starter, perfectly fried, with a hit of smoke and a faint meatiness. Spilt a pulled pork sandwich and signature burger with a friend. Pulled pork was great, a little moist, a little chewy, with some crisp caramelized bark on the ends of the strands. Toasted brioche bun added a little soft sweetness and was a nice pairing. Burger I would put on the continuum above the nearby Counter and just below Umami. Good beef, hand formed, and the 18 month cheddar and quality bacon were high on flavor. Again served on a brioche bun, and its moderate size wasn't an afternoon killer. Horseradish sauce on the side is a wise request, as a very thin schmear was plenty to accent the meat without overpowring the meal. There seemed to be a good bit of confusion with the house made chips on our visit. Got the BBQ and the Vinegar chips. The BBQ chips came out plain, the waitress suspecting that she had grabbed a yet to be seasoned batch. And two tries to get vinegar chips that had even a whiff of that aromatic goodness were a failure as well. Paper thin, they were tasty as plain chips nevertheless. Will go back to try a few more dishes, including the rocky road flatbread thing. I'd also call this a 3.5, because the service was good also. read more

Love this place. We happened upon it our last time in town and it was memorable enough that it was one of our destination options this trip. Food is terrific. Both visits have been in the mid afternoon. It's been quiet then, so I can't speak to busy time ambiance. When a carnivore opts for the vegan option and LOVES it (esw salad) you know it's a good spot. We also got the Shaggy Martin sandwich with chips. Delicious distinct fresh flavors. Maureen our server, graciously answers our questions and helped us decide what to have. She knew the ingredients of everything and her enthusiasm was well founded. I came here, a party of two, on a Saturday night around 9pm. There were a couple of other diners, but it wasn't busy. It's a bit dark inside, but the ambiance is nice. We were seated right away and handed menus. We asked the waitress for recommendations and she was helpful. Service was fast and attentive, yet we felt free to sit for as long as we wanted (granted it wasn't busy). We ordered what the waitress recommended - the truffled mushroom burger and ahi plate. We also checked in on Yelp for 1 free munchie and chose the bacon mac n' chz balls (4 pieces). We each ordered a fruity beer (I forgot which) and both were enjoyable. We shared everything and absolutely enjoyed every item. The truffled mushroom burger was juicy, the bun was soft, and the mushroom was abundant. Burgers aren't my thing, but the truffled mushroom burger was so full of flavor that I would come back for it. It came with side of potato chips, which were a great addition to the plate. I could taste the fresh crisp in each potato chip. The ahi came with salad mixed on. The sauce was citrus-y, but not sour and the ahi was seared to perfection. The bacon mac n' chz balls are fried balls filled with bacon & mac inside and they were delicious, a good change from typical mac n cheese! The crisp of the ball was great with the cheesy mac n cheese. We were full and weren't able to finish the food, but we still managed to order the bread pudding for dessert. It was amazing and changed my mind about bread pudding (it has never been my dessert of choice). The berries and caramel complemented the bread pudding very well. I liked the bit of fruitiness and chocolate on the same plate and recommend it for dessert. Service was amazing and the cherry on top of our dining experience was that once they found out it was my friend's birthday, they comped our dessert. Even my friends said they would not be going back. Parking is terrible as well. They have no parking lot, just a packed street. We were forced to park around the block. A cute little place that can be really multifunctional; I can see Tuning Fork as an equally great destination for a date for a young couple or a fun meal for a family. Not too many places fit the bill like that. There are also plenty of vegetarian and even vegan options, and yet the carnivore selection isn't hampered at all! My friend and I stumbled in at around 8 pm on a Thursday night and the place was packed. Luckily a table opened up almost immediately and we were seated, but reservations do seem like a good idea, especially for a Friday/Saturday. The beer and wine list is pretty legit, and we had both the golden coast hefeweizen (mehhh) and the bootleg brewery hefeweizen (better!). The menu is fun and mouthwatering with quite the selection, but after a long day of outdoor rock climbing, I couldn't resist getting the classic Plain Jane Burger (+cheese +bacon). And let me tell you -- this thing was delicious! I'm picky about my "gourmet" burgers and Tuning Fork's at medium rare did not disappoint. I opted for the side salad, while my friend got the truffle fries. The salad was amazingly fresh with a light pesto dressing, and we both felt it was the perfect accompaniment to the burger. My friend found the chipotle ranch sauce to be a bit overwhelming, while I liked the kick, and she also would have liked to see lettuce on the burger, while I felt the salad did the trick. Although we were stuffed, we ordered the apple cinnamon bread pudding for dessert. It honestly wasn't very impressive, and reminded us more of French toast than bread pudding. It also would have really benefitted from a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream! That said, it was a really generous portion and would have easily satisfied four people. Our waitress, a lovely French woman, was very sweet and offered 5-star service! I would happily revisit Tuning Fork, especially if I have a vegan or vegetarian friend in tow. read more

Somewhere between Big 5 and Elegant Balloons, there sits an unassuming little spot with dim lights, friendly servers, lots of beer and wine choices, and a decent Golden State inspired menu. This is a rustic place with TVs above the bar and a impromptu performance of local musicians. It gets a bit loud, but even so one is still able to carry on a conversation over the ordered Pinot Blanc and a nice NorCal Petit Syrah. Highly recommended by the waitress, we tried the White Bean Hummus. Although in my book a hummus must be made with chickpeas or be dubbed bean dip, the flavors were spectacular. The Olives and Almonds plate was not as successful. All the olives were pitted and had that black pizza olive taste instead of the sweet and briny Kalamata flavor you would expect. The almonds, although nicely seasoned with smoked paprika (I think), were stale and lost most of their crunch. We also sampled the lettuce Portobello lettuce cups, which were, well, not cups. This was a nicely seasons and well thought out salad plated on a rectangular white dish and topped with a few accoutrements and dressing. Nice flavor, but not as described and thus a bit confusing. Overall the experience was pleasant, but perhaps the fork still needs a little bit of tuning. read more

I split the mushroom burger special and the Sailor sandwich with someone. Both were delicious (you guys should consider doing this as a surf n turf like item!) I really the design of the place, with the wood and the mirrors. Its not the biggest spot but it can hold a decent size crowd. I came here on a Friday for lunch with a bunch of co-workers and were were the only ones there but the place is great. I didn't have any beers but everyone else was happy with the selection. I'm definitely seeing this as an alternative to Laurel Tavern when in the area. read more

This is a great place to go to if you're in the area. Got the truffle Mushroom Burger with Truffle Fries. Although the meat itself was a little bland, the truffle itself makes up for it. Get the upgrade with the truffle fries. Soo good! Parking is available on the street. read more
