Let's start from when you walk in - the ambiance is amazing. It's a very laid back feel. It reminded me very much of a Victorian vibe. The coffee came out in a French press which right off the bat gave me a good feeling about what I was about to eat. I will say when I first saw the prices I was a bit overwhelmed, but let me tell you ... when that food came out I FELL IN LOVE - from the presentation, to the amazing options for food. If you're a fan of vegan food, gluten-free food, heck just GOOD FOOD (I love any food), I will recommend this spot in Bay Shore anytime. The staff was absolutely amazingly friendly. 2012 Update: I'm pleased to share that Tula Kitchen has stayed true to its roots and has been rather consistent since it has opened its doors back in '07-08. The menu hasn't been altered much (which is both good/bad, I would have loved to see more creative dishes) and the food is constantly delicious. Every time I'm here I'm mulling for at least 10 minutes over the menu choices. Do I want to go full on vegetarian tonight? Salmon? Chicken Shish-kabobs? Pasta?... its clearly an overwhelming experience even when you're a seasoned foodie. The honey baked brie w/garlic toast is heaven for creamy fromage lovers. When made properly (ie: honey evenly distributed over everything) the warm brie spread over crunchy slices of oil drizzled toast is an intoxicating experience for my taste buds. Surely, it's not the most original nor creative dish that Tula offers, however it's an appetizer worth getting again and again! The pasta bowls can feed a small family... unfortunately there IS a charge for sharing so do yourself a favor and take some home for lunch the following day. In addition to that, the bean burger is always a favorite choice of mine and is made with lentils instead of black beans. It holds together pretty well for a vegi-burger. The sweet potato fries that accompany it were flavorful albeit mushy and undercooked the last time I got it. The best vegi-friendly dish on the menu (in my stomach's lofty opinion at least) is the sesame crusted tofu with sauteed broccoli rabe & coconut basmati, It really is a dish so good that even the meat eaters will enjoy it. The thai-inspired peanut sauce makes this dish quite savory. Oddly enough, the dessert menu is disappointing with an exception for the dream bar. When served warm accompanied by a dollop of vanilla ice cream it finishes a meal off the right way (delicious sugar, sugar, fat and sugar!). read more

I absolutely love this place! My friend and I were trying to find a place to have lunch this afternoon that didn't involve sushi, since that's all we ever eat. She has been here numerous times and said such good things, and I trust her opinion, so I figured, why not? I scoped out the menu and was sold very quickly. The 3 of us arrive around 2pm and were seated at a table close to the door. The second I walked through the door I was hooked. The decor is adorable and unique. I loved the large bar! Our waitress was very sweet and helpful since I was having a hrs time deciding what to order! We started with drinks first. My friend ordered a green tea martini and my sister ordered a blood orange pellegrino. I decided to go with 6oz of white Zinfandel. I really like that most of the wine options were 3oz, 6 oz, and a full bottle (full bottles are $5 off on Wednesdays.) This allows you to be able to try a few different wines without breaking the bank since the 3oz's were around $3-4 each! The wine I picked was light and refreshing! Now, onto the food. My friend had the mussels and adored them, my twin sister had the Mediterranean spread, and I had the turkey sandwich with lemon potato salad. I asked for the turkey in a wrap. It was amazing. Turkey was hot, Brie was melted and perfect, apples and honey Dijon were an amazing addition! I'm not a potato salad fan, but I was assured these would be good. BEST VEGAN RESTAURANT ON LONG ISLAND! I was most recently here for brunch (they do weekday brunch!), however I've been here for dinner a few times as well, and I've never had a bad meal. The coffee comes served in a French press, and the mimosas are fabulous. A popular restaurant in Bay Shore, Long Island serving health choices and vegetarian/ vegan dishes. Outdoor dining as well as indoor. Alfresco dining was be a bit noisy with the traffic on the weekend evening but a welcomed experience since the COVID quarantine. We ordered the Korean bbq burger with roasted potatoes and the almond crusted chicken over Caesar salad. Both dishes were delicious especially the Korean bbq turkey burger. The turkey burger was not 100% meat. I was pleasantly surprised with a well seasoned turkey and bean (I guess?) patty. Topped with a Korean slaw and pickled onions on a brioche bun was the perfect combination. For dessert, we ordered their signature earth moving dream bar. The bar was made of shortbread, praline and coconut which was moist and not too sweet. A side of whipped cream made it the perfect combination to end a meal. I always have a great experience and wonderful meal every time I come here!! The food, service and atmosphere are consistently fantastic. I especially appreciate how amazingly fresh the food always tastes and the fact that they keep it simultaneously healthy and delicious by not making anything fried, burned and oily, like many other restaurants. This is the only restaurant in the area that I trust for a tasty, fresh, healthy, plant-based, gluten-free vegan meal and it has easily become my favorite restaurant on Long Island! I recently had the sweet potato parsnip soup, which was great; the spices made it taste just like the holidays! The potato pea soup is fantastic as well!! I also had the lentil loaf, which was absolutely delicious and came with a nice cauliflower mash and salad. I also love the quinoa-stuffed acorn squash, as well as the baba ganoush which is phenomenal, especially with the cooked veggies!! My go-to for brunch is still the quinoa bowl. Great little spot in Bayshore. We were visiting for the weekend and came across this restaurant on yelp. It's located right on the mainstreet for easy access. Friday nights they have live music. We would have dined inside but the AC was freezing!!!! So we settled for outside where they had 3-4 tables on the side of the restaurant. Only downside to that were the annoying cars driving by with loud base/music. Their cocktails were interesting and delicious. I had the watermelon one and my fiance had the kiwi one prepared on the rocks. We shared the baked brie which came with garlic honey toast and grapes and the couscous salad (which is more arrugula/veggies than couscous:) both were delicious and we were full. I went here with my girls for my sisters birthday in January. So good. This is the restaurant where I started my vegan journey. I had a quinoa bowl and it had so much flavor. The kale in it was fresh and the falafel I got on the side was so worth it! IThe servers had great energy and we were able to sit in the famous bunk sofa. Food went through me like a laxative

Tula Kitchen has an outdated way of running their business that is contributing to economic decay as increasing competition move in to Bay Shore's main street. A few areas to improve: Inefficient, outdated & laggy POS system. Strategic layout to reduce congestion in high traffic areas for staff. Strategic planning to maximize dishes sold. 86 lists should not be consistently predictable; furthermore, they cannot maximize sales if they are inhibiting the amount of dishes they are able to sell. More frustrating is the owners' patronizing leadership style, lack of accountability, professionalism, and vision to lead the restaurant back to a competitive, profitable operation. The owners made habit of spontaneously passing on a plethora of managerial responsibilities to servers; Tasks like tracking inventory, adjusting 86 lists, taking phone calls and ridiculously enough, acting as a messenger between the two owners. Their inability to reinvest capital and develop a more sophisticated operation in order to keep up with a competitive environment is resulting in Tula Kitchen being pushed out of the market. Ironically, their old familiar strategy which used to be successful decades ago has become their tragic flaw that is leading to their ultimate downfall. On a street saturated with greasy bar food, a health-conscious establishment with no direct competitor is unable to capitalize. I wish them all the best of luck. Many of us have to travel for a decent menu of vegetarian/vegan options; Tula Kitchen has always made that trip worthwhile. Admittedly, the tofu crab cakes were disappointingly cold in the middle and not very warm otherwise. No inquiry was made when 1/2 were left on plate. Main dishes quickly made us forget. The Veggie Moussaka is decadent, leaving me wanting to reach across table to sample often. I went with the veggie-lentil meat-a-balls served over zucchini and squash spaghetti. Delicious flavors all around, I can only guess the spaghetti is roasted, a wonderful touch I'll be using at home. I've been checking this place out for sometime now. (years) And always at the wrong hour !!! They close at a specific time to prep for dinner... ok mental note!!! It has changed a whole lot since I first laid eyes on it...elegant modern larger!!!! I ordered Vegan Bolognese with fusilli pasta. and seitan Was very tasty. My son who treated me for my day....had Chicken Bowl and... another chicken dish , (?)...he loved it a rarity. It near the water so very pleasant to order and go by the sea.... This was a great restaurant. It is very nice inside. Everyone was very nice friendly. We started off with the Mediterranean spread for two. It had spinach pie, Greek salad, hummus, and tzatziki sauce it was delicious. For dinner I had the chicken bowl with seasoned grilled chicken, purple rice, feta, sautéed kale, seasoned chickpeas, romaine, tomatoes, cukes, radishes & grilled pita with dill tahini dressing. Good food here! Both vegan and non-vegan options. I've only had their vegan options and they are very good. The menu changes seasonally which is both good and bad. Bad because they often take off the things you love. Good because they often have new options. In response to the owners comment - Unfortunately there are many errors in your response to my review. I was told there was no available seating indoors when the gentlemen on the phone called me 15 minutes prior to my reservation. There was nothing off of the menu offered to me to be made "special" by the chef. In fact, there were multiple things I asked if they could alter (no mushrooms in specific vegan items) and I was told that they could NOT make anything special by the waitress. Also, we left because there was nothing on the menu to accommodate me, and the person who went into the restaurant stated that not only was it too cold but there was nothing on the menu that I could eat. read more

First things first, the food is really good, I love coming here and getting pasta almost all the time (I recommend it). The service is really nice and quick and I got my food quick. This place when it is open earlier like before 4 (idk why it doesn't say) but before 4 it has really cool stuff like smoothies, juices and fruit bowls, and for the vegans, there are stuff here that is vegan, pretty convenient. First of all I'm obsessed with the potato salad that accompanied my burger! It's definitely one of the best I've ever had! I would give this place 4.5 stars if it was an option! The service was great! My only complaint was the hummus appetizer we shared was a little bland but it was arranged nicely on the platter. Last Friday was my 3rd visit to Tula's in a span of about 3 years. I always go in wanting to be wowed and I never really am. It was my sister's birthday and as the birthday girl she gets to choose where she wants to go-so along I went. It was my first time there since they expanded and we were seated on the new side. It was freezing, though! We literally had our coats on as did many of the other patrons. We asked for the heat to be turned up but it didn't make a difference. The decor is lovely and really turns on what you hope will be a great dining experience. Service was very good. The menu is massive and you really need to take your time ordering. We tried out the vegan crab cakes and didn't like them at all but the other apps were good like the salad, brie cheese w honey and hummus platter. We ended up ordering just apps for the table because the menu was just too much to look through but those apps sure were expensive. Tula will give you a different experience but make sure that wallet is full and that you're ready to do some heavy reading before ordering! read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant until today. I called numerous times and it was busy. Called again and was told to call back in 30 minutes. Called the 7184 number and was told to continue calling the 7183 number. Continued calling, finally got through and was placed on hold for 5 minutes. Then was told that they were too busy and weren't taking any more orders. I ordered from Tula so much during the pandemic in order to help small businesses. Been meaning to try this place for quite sometime and last night was finally able to. I will say overall it was a good night out, staff was very friendly and courteous and food was fantastic. Started out with Mediterranean spread for 2, which consisted of slices of spinach pie, over Greek salad and pita slices with hummus, very tasty and a nice light app to start. For the main course we had the blackened catfish with garlic mash, this dish was perfectly prepared and I would certainly order it again. My GF ordered the almond crusted chicken over a bed of greens, she enjoyed the chicken but the bland greens left a bit to be desired. I would have gladly given this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the bartender being so slow, we ordered our app and drinks at the start of the meal we nearly finished the app before the drinks even arrived and when the did he screwed up the order. My gf ordered a French martini, the waitress was quick to clarify and ask if she meant the French pear martini which is on the menu (great job by the waitress), yet the bartender got wrong! Perhaps if he wasn't too busy chatting up the several women at the bar he'd be able to get a drink out correctly and in a timely manner. I've have been to Tula Kitchen ~4 times over the years and always LOVE the food, however I felt kinda let down this time. While the food was still good, I felt my meal wasn't nearly worth the $ I paid. I ordered the Shrimp Quinoa with asparagus and mushrooms. It had a garlic wine sauce and topped with parm cheese. It was really outta balance; heavy on the quinoa and skimpy on veggies and shrimp. The few shrimp and mushrooms were nicely cooked and quite tasty. The wine sauce however was not impressive and tasted like something you'd make at home. The $26 entree was one of the pricier options on the menu and certainly not something I'd get again. My co-worker had the veggie moustaka and loved it. I tried some and it was delicious. I also noticed the draft beer options to be way over priced. $ 9-10 for beers that are easily available at the store. Normally prices that high are only for the more hard-to-find brews. read more
