"Let's go down to the Sunset Grill We can watch the working girls go by" (Don Henley) The Trumbull Café & Grille is a nice breakfast and lunch joint three of us visited for lunch yesterday. Even though it has a White Plains Road address, you don't see it because it really isn't on White Plains Road. It's behind the main road, in a stand-alone plaza behind an office building. Or, as my nephew said, it's in a weird location. Their menu has a Mexican accent. I say that because their on-line menu features Breakfast Tacos, Huevos Rancheros, a Chili Omelet, an amazing sounding chorizo/serrano chilies/black bean concoction, three kinds of breakfast burritos, a Mollete, chilaquiles, a Cemita sandwich, two kinds of quesadillas, a chicken or beef burrito, and three kinds of street tacos. Oh, and let's not forget their two house-made salsas and three brands of hot sauce on your table. Now, I must mention that you should take their on-line menu with a grain or two of salt, because it has a November 2022 date on it and the listed prices are outdated, as my eagle-eyed nephew pointed out. Anyway, on to the food - which was great. We had Chicken N Waffles (served with Cabot butter and fried chicken strips, hot sweet chili and powdered sugar on top), Chocolate Chip pancakes, and Breakfast Tacos (Corn tortillas served with home fries, Monterey jack black beans, scrambled eggs, bacon topped with avocado salsa). The tacos were mine and they were stuffed with all of that aforementioned goodness. I could only handle two of them and just had the third for breakfast today. The chocolate chip pancakes looked great - drizzled with chocolate syrup and what seemed to be a chopped-up slab of solid chocolate perched on top. Likewise, the chicken and waffles looked great - a full-sized circular waffle served with two sizable chicken tenders. Service was very good, with a check-back and water refills, and the food came out fairly quickly. Our lump sum unitemized check was $50.45 so I can't compare the web prices to their actual prices, but rest assured the web pricing is lower (a reasonable assumption considering their web-posted menu was from November 2022). One more thing, when you pay by credit card, there is no place to add a tip. They encourage cash tipping. All in all, with the quirkiness aside, we had a very nice meal here.
The food was delicious! I ordered huevos rancheros with over easy eggs and loved it. It was a lot of food. They offered a lot of Mexican and American cuisines. The service was a little slow but that is likely because they were so packed. They were all still very sweet though! The avocado was very fresh and creamy and I was happy to see the authenticity in some of the dishes. It was small inside but very clean.
So we arrived the Saturday after Thanksgiving for a quick brunch. We selected this spot but they didn't take reservations, we figured it was just the two of us so we might get lucky in finding a seat with a short wait. When we arrived the small open cafe seemed packed but we got our seats very quickly. Once we got our menus we were super happy because they had tres leches French toast on the menu and we both LOVE tres leches so we were happy ladies! We ordered it and it was pretty good, the presentation was awesome! Good food, nice location, and great company, couldn't ask for a better brunch,
A friend I was visiting introduced me to this little cute diner place near him. There is seating outside and inside. It was crowded when we got there so we sat at the counter. My friend knew the owners and staff. They were exceedingly polite to him. My friend says that their pancakes and waffles are the best. They also had a Mexican specialties on the menu. There are two menus, one for breakfast and one for lunch. I am on a low carb diet right now so I stuck with the traditional bacon and eggs. My friend got the waffles which did look delicious. Even though my dish was simple it was done perfectly: sunny side up eggs, generous helping of crispy bacon, hash browns that were browned just right. The bacon was a little too salty but if you eat it with the hash browns it's not too bad. They accept credit cards but prefer cash.
Went here with friends for brunch and the food was very food! We ordered a bunch of food and everything we ordered was delicious. The prices are super affordable as well which I thought was great. I actually ordered two meals, the avocado toast (which iate too fast and forgot to photograph) and this French toast. I like the avocado toast, my only complaint is that I wish they smashed the avocado instead of slicing. It fell apart as I ate it which wasn't too big a deal. Also, the poached eggs were not cooked long enough and the whites were still runny. Flavors were great though! The French toast was excellent, although I'm not sure why it's Tres leches fre ch toast, it just tasted like great French toast.
A little on the expensive side though the food is really great overall. Some of the best options would be their burritos or the absolutely wonderful huevo ranchero
Came here for breakfast on a Friday morning and it was PACKED, even though it was busy we were able to get seated in a few minutes and the service was very attentive. It's a cute quaint diner with limited seating My brother said the sauce that came on his chicken and waffles was amazing. He hasn't stopped asking to go back since. I didn't love the corned beef hash but their pancakes were delicious! I definitely want to come back and try the breakfast bowls. A table next to us ordered one and they looked so good.
I've been here multiple times, also the Monroe location. Restaurants are always super clean. The service is always fast and great! The food is good. I've have breakfast, steak bowls, and the turkey club. Always fresh and tasty!
I will never eat here again! I ordered 2 things a spicy breakfast buritto $14 and an order of chocolate chip pancakes. On their own website for weekend menu it listed the buritto for $14 and plain pancakes for $9. So I addd choc chips so I knew there would be an up charge. Blueberry pancakes were 13 so I figured it's comparable. They charged me 20 bucks for three 5 " pancakes with barely any chocolate chips in them. the total with tax was $36.50 Go somewhere else they jack up their prices. I'm so upset! Ridiculous

Trumbull Cafe has now moved - check out their new location adjacent to Sapore's Deli. What was once the former Giove's, and then Fatty Patty, had been beautifully remodeled with a fresh, noir decor. Same great service and menu/food. read more

I think this is the only nice and contemporary breakfast place with delicious food in the area. I will definitely come again and I do recommend you to try it. read more
The reviews weren't wrong! This is a nice place with quick service and outstanding food! I got the Mex breakfast bowl and there's only one word to describe it: flavorful! I really loved the combination of black beans, eggs, chorizo and hash browns. The beans were rich and a bit spicy and the chorizo was awesome crumbles of flavor. Mix it all together and you've got joy in your mouth. I want more! read more

Wrong item delivered due to restaurant's error in labeling the bag. Contacted restaurant, explained what happened. We paid for chicken tacos, a burrito, and guac & chips. This is what we got instead. The restaurant refused to take responsibility for the error, would not issue a refund, and would not send out the correct order, then hung up after putting me on a very long hold. Mistakes happen, but businesses should be accountable and make things right when they mess up. read more

Trumbull Cafe & Grill is one of the few restaurants still alive in Trumbull center. They have a really nice breakfast and lunch menu with American and Mexican cuisine. I tried the carne asada burrito. It was a good balance of each ingredient, and they were evenly distributed throughout the burrito. The steak was juicy and tender. I'd recommend this item. The place was jam packed on a weekday which is always a good sign. The service struggled a bit, but that's likely because they were completely packed. The interior has a clean look with an open view to the kitchen. read more

During our six-day stay in central Connecticut, we tried a bunch of lunch and dinner spots. As far as I'm concerned, the Trumbull Cafe & Grill was a total standout. While the place is visibly Mexican, it offers white-bread American fare along with Mexican dishes. You'll find both breakfast and lunch items on the menu. When we arrived, there were both indoor and outdoor tables available. We sat at the lunch counter, which added to the American diner feel of our visit. I ordered the carnitas burrito bowl, which I would have termed a "plato" (carnitas plate) -- rice, beans, protein, salsa, greens,.... That lunch was perfect! We paid our bill with a credit card but were not offered the opportunity to add a tip to the charge. That was unusual! Fortunately, I carried some cash that I could plop down next to our plates as we got up to leave. A tip was well deserved. I will make it a point to stop by again the next time I'm in this area. -- read more

This place is nice looking. Generally packed. This is my third time here. Likes: the interesting items on the menu, that make breakfast different. Options for vegetarian or keto friendly, options for the sweet tooth. The food: a bit pricey for breakfast and the basic breakfast a bit underwhelming, but worth coming here if you want something slightly different. Their plates have an interesting blend of American, French and Mexican. The service: They need to get better. It sucks, actually...Let me explain. I have been here on the weekend. I have been here on a weekday. I have been here midweek. The waitresses need to improve urgently, even when at downtime they are distracted and focused at the bar. I waited 10 mts to get a menu, and ten more to order my meal. One napkin was provided and when the waitress came with the bill, that's when she asked if anything else was needed. Train your staff! People pay for experience, and for food quality, you have a nice place. Location and getting there: But it's on a strip mall style locality. There are other buildings there. Parking may vary. When you drive here, there's a huge building in front so you will have to go up a road to be able to see the location. read more

A five star review is rare. But the Trumbull cafe deserves the honor. We got 4 breakfast meals and all were fantastic. The chef has some serious expertise. Even the coffee was good. Service was great too. Good vibes. We will be back. read more

I came here to get some work done while grabbing a bite to eat. This is the perfect cafe to work from because they have tons of counter space and free wifi! I ordered the trumbull mex breakfast burrito and added avocado to it. Wow, it was absolutely delish. I added tons of valentina hot sauce to it for some extra heat and it was perfection. The chorizo was perfectly spicy and the avocado/black beans balanced it out so well. I only ended up eating half of it because it was so filling. It is very affordable and a great breakfast option. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Cute place! read more

Fast service, everything cooked to perfection and beautiful to look at even! A little expensive for breakfast, but you won't mind, because it's that good. Everything I eat had here was delicious. You MUST try the tres leche French toast. My only wish is that they had more real estate outside. The 3 tables outside are always taken. read more
