Hard to find really good pizza in California, but this place absolutely hits. The crust is to die for. We got the square pizza with the smoked vodka sauce and it was sooo good, definitely recommend. The hostess and waiter were both very friendly and attentive throughout the evening, even on a busy night. The food is AMAZING. I have had pizza in New York, Chicago, and all over Europe - but, nothing comes close to the pizza from Truly Pizza. I made reservations 30 days ahead and then I waited and it was worth it. The sauce + the cheese + the sesame seed buttered crust all added up to a savory sensation, well worth the drive and the wait. We were stuffed but we still tried the ice cream with olive oil and we loved it too. The staff is excellent and the people-watching is 5 stars as well. We will be back again! One very important note: make sure you go to the restroom before you go to dinner here as they only have two small bathrooms for a restaurant with over 200 people! The line for the bathroom will be long. I honestly do not know how the permit for this restaurant was issued and approved for building a place this large with only two bathrooms. The waiting area for takeout was very crowded and a little bit confusing, with people pushing in and really not knowing what to do. We "checked in" several times, so they knew we were there, but the pizza was definitely not hot off the press - I can only imagine they'd been sitting there 5 minutes or so (we ate our first slices in our car - less than a minute walk from the restaurant). Wonderful pizza spot/ restaurant in the Lantern District of Dana Point. They are known for the pizza of course, but there are other wonderful items on the menu that feature well sourced produce and high quality ingredients. The service is wonderful here and the vibe feels like an elegant, but approachable beach area cafe with lots of outdoor seating (dog friendly). They are wildly popular so reservations are needed far in advance (and they book up quickly) or if you do a walk in, just be prepared to wait a good amount of time. Came here with a couple of friends (and a dog) and put our names on the waitlist. The wait at the time was an hour - no biggie - gave us a chance to walk the dog around the serene neighborhood and grab beers at a tap house nearby. When we were up, we were seated at a table outside near the sidewalk. Perfect for having the pup with us and people watching. We ordered the Champion Tomato & Cheese (basically their margherita round pizza) and a special square pizza they had that included pepperoni, burrata, and basil on top. Both pizzas were really, really good. We also ordered the seasonal burrata appetizer that included lots of goodness like aged balsamic, olive oil, and prosciutto. We added the house salad which contained delicious, fresh ingredients and a great, light dressing. We finished our meal with some of the soft serve - one topped with olive oil and the other as a creamsicle float. Both very tasty. We walked the marina nearby while we waited. We ordered the Suprema and Potato Bianca pizzas. I highly recommend a reservation as their wait times can sometimes go as high as 2 hours. There is a very tiny parking lot next to the restaurant itself followed by street parking. It was my first time here I truly pizza restaurant in Dana point. The atmosphere was really nice and cozy and the customer service was excellent. The food tasted amazing. Me and my husband got there about 45 minutes before closing time; luckily the hostess was nice enough to get us seated, even though we had to wait on the waitlist for other people to cancel their reservation. They even offer blankets if customers get cold since it's all outdoor seating. The only concerns that I have is that the restaurant charges two dollars for a little side ranch for the pizza, which we did not know. I mean the pizza already cost $30, so ranch should be free. Most of the time restaurants doesn't really charge for any sides of dipping sauces. Also the meats that was supposed to go on my pizza were out of stock at the moment so we had replaced it with regular pepperonis instead. I thought that substituting was free since they were out of the original meat, but I got charged almost 2 dollars to substitute it to a different type of meat. I don't mind paying for these little small charges, but I just want other customers to keep that in mind and not freak out when they see the small charges on their bills. read more

I was on a tight schedule around 2:00pm on Saturday, but wanted to see if I could get a seat and try the pizza since I was in Dana Point that day from Los Angeles. And since it was my first time at the restaurant and I had no clue the restaurant would be busy or that reservations were recommended. It turned out the busser got the attention of the waiter who came to take my order, which made another great impression. Since I was short on time I didn't order the pizza as the wait was going to be about 35 minutes, so I ordered the Dana Point Wedge and it came right away. The Wedge is their lettuce wedge salad with four small pieces of iceberg lettuce and toppings like herby ranch dressing, bacon, dates, blue cheese and sliced red onions. My friend and I decided to try this place out a week before and they were all booked, so we just did an early lunch there and didn't have to wait. Since it was so busy during the street market we were put on a wait list and our table was ready within 45 minutes. We placed our drink and pizza order and 45 minutes later we were still waiting for our pizza. Not sure what happened but the manager apologized and said they had to remake our pizza and it would be out shortly. 20 minutes later the pizza was finally delivered personally by the manager. He was very apologetic and offered us complimentary desserts since we had to wait so long for our lunch. The square suprema pizza we ordered was delicious and we would definitely order it again. We were a bit hangry before the pizza arrived but once we had a taste of the pizza we were happy again. This place offers delicious pizza and a very nice outdoor ambience in beautiful Dana Point. The one drawback to the restaurant is it only has two unisex restrooms upstairs so when the restaurant is busy there is a long wait to use the facilities. I feel for the people eating at the table on the second floor by the fire pit since the line of people waiting for the restrooms were standing right by their table while they were trying to enjoy their meal. I also tried a circle pepperoni which was a thinner crust and also very good. The decorations and feel to the place are very nice, making it a great place to enjoy some vibes. The crust on the square pizza is super light and airy in the middle with a very crisp crust. I've also tried their round pizzas before and while those are good, the square is my personal favorite. Spagnola salad is nice & refreshing, but I'd personally ask for light dressing or dressing on the side as it was a little too much this last visit.
