Stopped by to pick up quick dinner proteins while shopping at HEB. The restaurant was clean and staff were patient while we checked out the menu. Staff were very helpful when asked about gluten free options. We ended up with brisket and burnt ends. This came with slices of bread, onions, and pickles. Solid bbq. I'm a native Texan and firmly enjoy dining here or takeout. Burnt ends are fantastic, as is pulled pork and turkey (black pepper rub) But I wanted to call out staff member Rissa. Came in at 7:30 for a bite and a brew. Out of brisket, fryer turned off. Server had no joie de vivre--we felt like jerks for being there the way she interacted with us. Hours marked clearly to 9pm (see picture). She gave my fiancé a 3/4 pour after she poured out a 2/3 full pour because she couldn't figure out how to tilt to reduce the head. The pour before a sip is pictured. Mine was okay. Thank goodness the taps were still open and the glasses were clean. Seems a small miracle, considering. The new HEB McKinney location opened last week and I had the chance today to stop by for BBQ. The wait wasn't long and the dining area has plenty of tables. There are several beers on tap and it's cold. I ordered the stuffed spud with turkey and it was great. I will be back in the near future if not to dine in or to take away. This is located inside HEB. I enjoyed the brisket from here. I also had the jalapeño cheddar sausage, which was underwhelming. For sides, I tried the Mac and cheese, collard greens, and fried okra. I would probably skip the collard greens next time as they were too salty. There are two kiosks to order from if the cashier isn't available. The person who brought out my order was friendly and added utensils and bbq sauce. There are lots of seating, and it's more like a fast food joint where you self-serve. Three of us came at lunchtime on a weekday. I ordered the special Banh Mi sandwich, but they were out of the bread. Sad. So, I had brisket nachos. They aren't bad, but didn't have any sort of salsa, chopped tomato component that would have made them much tastier. My hubby got sliced brisket, which a a bit dry. This is the not True Texas BBQ! I ordered a large turkey sandwich and a 1/4lb of moist brisket. Put the brisket on top of the turkey for combo sandwich. The Turkey was supper dry and the brisket La lack flavor. Something was supper salty o think the turkey was it or the sauce. Either way stay away this is not good Texas BBQ. Love the BBQ and the service. We love the casual ambiance and family-friendly staff. My hubby and I have dined in once and ordered takeout, as well as driven through several times now since they opened. It had become one of our favorite BBQ places near us, 5 minutes door to door! The moist brisket and ribs are our favorite, as well as the El Heffe and El Jeffa sandwiches. But our new favorite is the amazing new Banh-Mi Brisket sandwich! Delicious, juicy & spicy, just like we like our food. Our favorite BBQ in town is Hutchins BBQ on east side downtown McKinney, but their prices have risen so much, we can only afford to go once a year as a family, and maybe another time just the two of us. True Texas BBQ is our very close 2nd favorite here, not even kidding. We appreciate the reasonable prices, but especially the delicious food that fills us up and keeps us coming back. So happy to have H-E-B and True Texas BBQ super close to us finally. My experience could have been terrible but HEB came through, quite honestly to my surprise. Food order was completely wrong in the drive thru. We didn't check because the associate, at the window, repeated the order and gave us the correct receipt. Got home, opened the bag. We got the food intended for the car behind us based on the numbers. Far less food than what we paid for. Emailed customer service. Next day got multiple calls from multiple managers ranging from full refund to free food. Thank you so very much Irwin for righting the accident and making this a memorable experience representative of the HEB culture I'm learning more about. Public service announcement. They owned the error. They provided a customer service experience that far exceeded my ask of just getting the food we paid for. Their brisket ribs and sausage are pretty darn good for 12 and 15 dollar plates with sides. Collards are amazing. Cornbread is great. I'm not going to say it's Top 10 Texas BBQ but you're not going to find any better quality and customer service for the these price points. We will be back. read more

I highly recommend True Texas BBQ McKinney. Their staff is very friendly, efficient and provides great service. Fatty Natural Brisket, Baked Potato and Brisket Nachos are my favorite. I tried their chicken tenders (naked) and fried okra for the first time and it did not disappoint! I also love their tea specially the Mango flavor. Their restaurant is clean and very convenient since it's inside HEB grocery. This is my go to BBQ restaurant. I'm not a BBQ connoisseur, but I've tried enough different places since moving to Texas (nearly 20 years ago) to know when it's good! This barbecue is good! Hutchins in McKinney is my hands down favorite. But they've gotten pretty pricey ever since making it into somebody's top 50 list. Lean brisket is, of course, my favorite menu item. But I've tried other meats here, as well. Turkey is really good. Sausage is nothing special, but credible as a 2nd choice on a 2-meat plate. Pulled pork is pretty boring. For sides, I like the Mac and cheese a lot. The fried okra has been pretty good, except for one occasion when it was really bad and woody. Cole slaw is decent. The baked potatoes could spend just a little longer on the smoker, but they're ok. They also make a really nice Serrano cornbread. Not a fan of the brisket beans. Desserts - I've only had the peach cobbler, which is amazing! I'm sure the other choices are good, too. But I can't see myself ordering them unless they tell me they're out of cobbler! So, to sum up: True Texas BBQ probably won't make a "best of" list, but they're really good, and priced right. And they're a definite step up from most of the other chains. read more

Brisket was somewhat dry. Dry enough I would have likes to add a little sauce but the sauces cloyingly sweet and too thick. The regular was almost like a basic sauce you'd start with to make real bbq sauce. Not a good combination to start. Too much pepper on the turkey. Overall this was disappointing. Iced teas were too sweet. I know this is texas but really if you offer mango or peach flavored tea don't sweeten them. Let the customer add sweetener if they want. Only tried the potato salad which was ok and on a positive note the portion was large. We probably won't be back. There are great bbq options in the area. No need to settle. read more

The reason I dont like this place more is that they are terribly inconsistent. You could either have a great or an awful experience because of this. For example, sometimes when I get "LEAN brisket" it actually is lean without being dry and its fantastic. But other times like today, despite specifying that I want it lean, I end up with a pile of fat that is absolutely inedible. Its actually nauseating getting a bite full of fat when you're expecting brisket. They desperately need to work on quality control. Ordered Fatty Brisket, chicken tenders, loaded baked potato, fried okra, brisket nachos and peach tea. Fatty brisket taste so good. Chicken tenders is crispy outside and moist inside. Fried okra is the best I've had (asked them not to add salt). Baked potato is good especially when you add some fatty brisket. Their Brisket Nachos is so good I had to order some for to go. Tried this place using drive thru and... 1. Ordered three 2 meat plates and got two 2 meat plates and one 1 meat plate. That was upsetting because the price for the three plates was a total of $51.93. I was cheated. 2. The young lady at the window waited until we got to the window and took my card and then immediately stated, "we may be out of one of your sides." Why not tell the customer before you take their card? 3. The food had no seasoning but the bbq sauce was somewhat flavorful. The meat is supposed to be seasoned enough to be eaten without bbq sauce. 3. The sides were a let down. The collard greens were lackluster, potato salad was different but not too bad, the coleslaw was horrible. The pricing doesn't match the quality of the food. read more

We used the drive through at the just opened McKinney H‑E‑B BBQ restaurant. My husband got the chopped bbq potato, and I got the Turkey plate with cole slaw and beans. The drive through was fast, and the staff was really polite. It looked as though they were training people. Everything in our order was correct and carefully packed. The smoked Turkey was very good, and I liked the spicy bbq sauce. The beans were delicious. My husband really liked the potato. I thought the price was good compared to similar bbq places. After waiting more than 5 minutes, they tell me they're out of brisket! Your managers need to know the old rule of supply and demand. Brisket and ribs take hours and hours to cook. You know how much you cooked. Therefore you should know how much you're going to sell. You should be very very aware that you're running low. This has happened to me twice now. Don't ring up the product until you know you have it to sell! And they forget the pickles and onions every time! Btw, I was the only car in the drive thru. This happened a few weeks past, but thought I better post this. Be careful when going to this location off El Dorado in Mckinney. This is the crap the girl at the drive thru window handed me. A heavily fatted Brisket sandwich when I asked her for lean. Luckily I stopped to eat it and brought it right back. I went inside to bring it back and I was pissed. They made me a new one, but there's just no excuse .I never in my life had a grossly grissled sandwich served to me that way. Somebody saw it with their eyes and knows what they did, a worker put it together. I guess they figured I would just pay and drive away never to be seen again. That's dishonest and trickery. Don't throw your scraps at customers, we're not your dog or garbage can. You need to cleanup your act. Other HEB locations don't do this to customers.
