When in Texas, I gotta find Brisket... Vaqueros was close to my hotel and was on a short list from my Dallas Yelp Friend Ricardo J. He highly recommended Terry Blacks but the idea of sitting in Dallas traffic after sitting in Dallas traffic didn't appeal to me. I always like variety, so I ordered a Meat Plate with Brisket, Turkey, Hot Link, Garlic Bread, Mac N Cheese, and Slaw. Man, what a plate of food. The Brisket was good and better than most that I've had, but not the best. The hot link was super dry and pretty much inedible... Blech. The slaw was weird with some fruity notes to it. The Mac n Cheese was delicious, as was the garlic bread! Gotta love carbs! However, that Turkey was one of the best pieces of turkey I've ever eaten in my life. It was so flavorful and moist. It was glistening in the light like Phoebe Cates coming out of that pool in that Fast Times movie (a boy remembers). I love the big cup they had for soft drinks as well as the hot BBQ sauce (temp, not spice). I wish they had multiple types of sauce though. I'd go back for the Turkey in a heartbeat, but I feel the brisket isn't worth the trip again. The quest will continue... and I'll probably sit in traffic for Terry Black's!

As we make our way through the D magazine top 10 best new restaurants, we decided to stop by Vaqueros. The reviews seemed to indicate we would be in for a treat, especially because of the mashup between bbq and Mexican cuisines. Worried that we would be in for a wait we were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant wasn't has busy as we expected. Mindful that we showed up at 11:45am on a Saturday. One at the counter we could see some of the meat trays being prepared and the sides. Shame there were no tasters offered as is usually the case in other bbq spots across Texas. Anyhow so we ordered the Texas tray, a combo of brisket, hot links and pork ribs with 2 sides of apple Gorgonzola slaw and Texas beans. And as a lover of Mexican food, I had to order a bbq birria and carnitas tacos. First up was the carnitas, great flavor, well filled and the green salsa was superb. However I found the pork cubes to be too big for the taco which meant they are very fatty and not crispy enough. Second was the bbq birria taco which came with a nice side of consume. Again great flavor, but some cheese (even optional) would be nice. All in all tacos had great flavor and I would order them again. Maybe next time if they are ordered alongside a bbq tray, they can working on timing the prep as both tacos were a little on the cold side. Now on to the Texas tray. The hot links, tasty, spicy but we did find the casing a little tough. The ribs were the star. Fall off the bone tender, great smoke and thank god they were not smothered in bbq sauce. As for the brisket, as I prefer lean brisket, I was reminded that we were not given the option lean or fatty when we ordered. The brisket was flavored well and thank god there wasn't an excessive presence of salt. The meat was very tender and paired very well with their house made bbq sauce. Now the sides, the apple slaw was phenomenal and something I am going to try to make at home. It could have done with a little more Gorgonzola but that is because I love blue cheese. And the beans, scratch made as you can see the chiles and taste that it has been cooking for hours. The dining rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. We really appreciated the heating lamps being on as it was a little chilly that morning. If we are in the area and in the mood for BBQ we will be sure to drop by again.

As a Cali native, everyone always tells me I have to go to Texas and try the BBQ, but I honestly didn't understand the hype until I came here. The brisket is incredibly tender and melts in your mouth, and don't forget to add their homemade BBQ sauce for that extra punch of flavor. Never had green apple slaw before, but it was absolutely delicious and the Mac and cheese was to die for. The seating area in the back is huge and a great spot for a big group.

This is a new restaurant. They started out as a food truck enterprise. I love the location. There are 3 dining areas, the main dining, the large dining area which hosts live music . Then there is the outdoor dining area. This area is bustling with shopping and dining experiences. Everything we had was tasty. The Cole slaw was unique and delicious. The Mac n cheese was good enough. I had the smoked turkey and the carnitas taco (technically a tostada), our food was a little slow (still shaking down the food service line) and therefore my taco was a bit too soggy to pick up successfully in one part. Everyone loved the sausages, The brisket had a good smoke ring. The best value from my perspective was the brisket nachos, they were huge! Management needs to refine the dining room a bit. I had to go to the counter to get napkins, there were none outside on the table; like inside. The order spot is also the pickup spot which is not good. Several menu items have been struck down permanently. To my personal disappointment the smoked chicken was also struck off the menu; still scratching my head on that one. They did have a solo musician performing in the big dinning hall. We love live music I'm going to reserve judgement for another 6 months.Vaqueros has some very good competition nearby. They do have a few unique menu items on the menu, I just hope they stay so as to differentiate themselves from the others. Go, try it and give us your review.

TLDR: Amazing hospitality and great BBQ with twists I can't emphasize enough how amazing the hospitality is at Vaqueros. My party and I came by half an hour before opening and Trey let us in early and hung out with us until opening time. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in every interaction. The brisket, sausage, turkey were all smoked as well as you'd find in the best places. Everything is made with quality ingredients, especially evident in the beautifully marbled prime brisket. Vaqueros is significantly less salty than other BBQ joints - really letting the meat shine. They also do great tacos and burnt ends. These both stray from your standard joint - the pork belly burnt ends are closer to chicharrones than the typical sauced / glazed pork belly bites. If I was in the area I'd definitely be coming back. Vaqueros is a wonderful representation of the community with some great food. Extra: Vaqueros has an amazing indoor smoke room rather than an outdoor setup. It's a laboratory of custom windows, smokers, fire pits, etc. all for the purpose of making barbecue indoors. It really is an engineering marvel - a glimpse into the future of barbecue.

The food is excellent and so is the service!! My fave is the Mac bowl and the Apple Gorgonzola slaw.

Not a bad BBQ spot in Allen but there were some misses when my fiance and I came to try it out... When we visited on a Friday evening at around 6:30pm, there were only a few people in line and plenty of empty tables to go around. When you get to the front of the line, you order meats at the first section of the counter and then you order sides, tacos, and any other dishes at the check out counter further down. For BBQ, we got their prime brisket, hot link sausage, and pork ribs with mac & cheese and fries. The brisket was nice and tender and it was probably my favorite out of all three meats. Both sides were just okay in my opinion and not a stand out. Other than their core BBQ offerings, we also tried their al pastor pork belly burnt ends and the BBQ birria taco, and this is where things fell flat for me. The pork belly burnt ends tasted more like crispy pork belly, and the meat + skin was super tough and almost inedible in some parts. The birria taco was okay but I wish it had more flavor.

Staff is awesome. Super clean inside. Huge - there's the dining room attached to the cashier and where they dole out the meat but another side room too. Everything was prepared excellently - and when I got there an hour or two before close, they had run out of a bunch of stuff. Always a good sign :) Will be back! Also the area it's in is great for an evening stroll after eating!

All the food was amazing. Ribs fell off the bone and tacos had great flavor. Rarely do you find a place that combines Hispanic and barbecue together like this. It's a great combination. All the staff were super helpful and kind and patient and I enjoyed talking to them. We will definitely be back for sure and make this a regular stop anytime we're in the area.

You're kidding me right,? After waiting 3 months for this new BBQ purveyor to work the kinks out,we walk in and the owner says, "We're out of brisket and ribs". More on that later, for now I've got to interject that the pit master Christian, saved the day and a 1 Star review. I had planned all week to take my grandson to Vaqueros for Q. He has inherited his grandfather's love of Q and we choose Vaqueros tonight. One of my earliest memories growing up in Dallas was my dad taking me into the original Sonny Bryan's and Sonny apologizing for being out of brisket. Guess what?He turned around and made us a turkey sandwich on the house. Sonny knew business. Today, those simple times are gone. Everything is going corporate, profit motive, high rent, fancy smokers. That's all good unless you can't deliver your product. Thanks for the pit room tour Christian. I give your efforts five stars and will return to sample your Brisket.

Service was great and the atmosphere and location are awesome. Even some of the sides and the prime brisket was incredible but after an $82 bill for 3 people, the food wasn't as up to par as I'd hoped. Maybe it was because it was 230pm and after the lunch rush on a Saturday and during a Mothers day craft show at Wattera Edge, but for what we paid, I wasn't impressed. The burnt ends pork was barely edible. It was so tough it felt like id Crack a tooth. The sauces covered up the actual pork flavor and didn't compliment it. It was drowned in sauce. We also got the regular pork and it was so gross and fatty that it bled through the butcher paper. I don't think there was actual meat in the portion they gave us. We tried the elote and it was OK. The beans, Mac and cheese and potato salad were honestly better quality and flavor than the meats. I will say we ended up getting the first slices off rhe prime brisket and it was phenomenal. Also the staff is super nice but for what we paid, I was expecting alot higher quality bbq. Maybe well try again on a less busy weekend. Ps, if you've never been to Watters Edge on a weekend, parking is an abysmal nightmare. Just park at of changes or off of Watters Edge a bit and walk. Trust me. This is a cool location in a trendy and cool shopping area, so it gets busy fast!

Came to try their tacos and I will say I liked one out of the three I got. My fav was the brisket taco. My husband got a barbecue platter and liked both the brisket and turkey. The mac and cheese is ok not the best. Restaurant was clean inside and they have alot of open seating.

I knew from the second we walked in, based on the list of made-in-house horchatas and agua frescas, that we were going to be in for a good meal. The menu was refreshingly unique compared to your basic street taco style setup or the usual Tex-Mex mashup of inauthentic tacos topped with shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Our group of 3 adults, plus my 7 year old niece, shared a bowl of guacamole, which was phenomenal and came mixed with sunflower seeds and topped with crumbled cotija, alongside house-made corn tortilla chips. We also split an elote cup, which was great. My wife got a classic horchata, which was deliciously sweet (but not overly so) with a nice slight punch of cinnamon. I went with water but will definitely try an agua fresca next time. I ordered two tacos, both on house-made flour tortillas (I like corn tortillas but prefer flour when made fresh). The Pollo Azteca, with marinated grilled chicken tenderloin, mango pico, and a drizzle of crema, was phenomenal, and had more flavor than most chicken tacos I've had before. The star of my meal, however, was the Al Pastor, with adobo marinated pork tenderloin, diced pineapple, onions, and cilantro, with a slice of lime to squeeze on top. This was hands down one of the best tacos I've ever had in my life. I was floored. I also tried my wife's Carne Asada tacos, which came topped with cilantro and onions, and a slice of lime, on their house made corn tortillas. The steak was incredibly flavorful, and the corn tortillas were tender without being chewy. We shared a side of rice and beans, which was good, but not the star of the show. The rice was your typical Mexican yellow rice, and the beans were more of a soupy whole-beans style, which reminded me of my Colombian mother-in-law's recipe. The staff makes four homemade salsas, ranging from mild to pretty spicy, and I loved all of them with the exception of the mild. My niece got the kids' cheese quesadilla, which was a simple melted Oaxaca cheese between a flour tortilla, served with rice, beans, and a little side of crema. The last thing I will rave about is the service. The staff was incredibly nice from the minute we walked in, pleasant to talk to when delivering our order and asking how everything was tasting, to the moment we bussed our tables and headed for the door. I cannot wait to come back again, and I hope they stay very busy until I'm able to do so, because I want this place to be around for a very long time!
