After reviewing the extensive menu of great options, we decided to share the Edamame Dumplings as a starter, the Teriyaki Quinoa Bowl, and the Grilled Chicken and Mozzarella Panini. The portions are just right and the food was delicious and well cooked. This was such an enjoyable dining experience! I would definitely return here. My youngest has dairy, peanut and egg allergies which poses yet another obstacle. This place delivers on all fronts! Ambience: spacious, clean, bright and airy. Large bar. Touches of greenery throughly. Booths, high tops, tables, indoor/outdoor seating options. Menu: Fantastic variety of options with a splash of creativity. A large majority of the menu was vegan friendly AND appetizing! The prices were pricy ($31 sea bass, avg. $18 entree) but portions were plentiful. What we ordered: Edamame guacamole was YUM! Simple, tasty and came with huge pita chips which the girls and adults gobbled up. Seasonal peach and burrata appetizer (6/5) DELISH! Fresh, naturally sweet and perfect balance of textures with yummy pistachios mixed in! There was probably about an entire large peach and a half in the dish. Turkey burger: (5/5) Husband gave this an A+ cooked perfectly with side salad and sweet potatoes Teriyaki Quinoa bowl with Salmon: (6/5) My girls split this which they portioned out in advance for us. Came with perfectly cooked quinoa/brown rice, salmon was an add on, bok choy, string and snap peas, avocado, carrots. Very healthy without sacrificing taste and the girls loved! Light on the sauce which was perfection. Kale Cobb salad: Didn't even touch it because we were so full! Watermelon mojito: (3/5) Fresh tasting with more of that natural watermelon flavor versus syrup. Only taking away a stars for lack of alcohol Staff; Friendly, attentive and accommodating. As we pulled into Riverside Square Mall, we saw the True Food Kitchen. After shopping we worked up an appetite. We went to CheeseCake Factory, then decided to give True Food Kitchen. We went in, place was empty compared to CKF. My wife tried to order one of the drinks and we were advised they didn't have that specific one but had everything else. We then asked for a Prosecco instead of a mixed drink, they did not have that either. The food is B+, it has more of a cafeteria ambiance. The service was quite slow. We had the best experience for our first time here. Miguel was very kind and informative and a great waiter. Scott assisted Miguel during a very busy time of the evening. Scott was our server today. He was amazing and was very interactive with us. The vegan food was mixing the mushroom burger with walnuts. The Margarita pizza was also very delicious. Love this place. Highly recommend the brussel sprout appetizer and ordering mains from their seasonal menu. I ordered the chicken ramen and was very pleased. The service is also relatively fast. Yowza! I couldn't wait to try TFK, so I made a reservation for a Saturday night. The space is a great size and super modern, with plenty of seating to accommodate whatever capacity requirements they have. They also have outdoor dining, which I'm sure will be available once it gets a tad warmer. Our server was extremely helpful with making sure everything I had from my drink to dessert was gluten-free, which I appreciated. I wouldn't recommend the gluten-free pizza crust, as it was extremely crunchy. I loved my Korean noodle bowl, it was ridiculously good. While it came out hot, I ate it cold for lunch the next day because it was just that good. They also have vegan and gluten-free desserts, which gives them an A in my book. Very disappointed with the service. Was seated in a few minutes but been waited for a server for over 15minutes. A table next to us was there later than us got served way sooner than us. And then I raised my concerns to the host, he then found us a server. The server came to took our order. He wrote down what we wanted but then serve the table next to us. For some reasons, he came back to us and asked... "just to confirm is this what you order? Wait... what? Ok." Seriously! What did you write down when we were ordering? Very disappointed! Ok. At the end of the meal, our server came with a dessert menu and a check. I have never been to a restaurant served like that! NEVER! What does that supposed to mean? That just simply rude! We are big fans of the TRUE FOOD KITCHEN in Naples, Florida so we were super excited when they opened a location in Hackensack. Welcome to New Jersey, Guys! The reservation process was easy, as they link to Open Table. The staff warmly greeted us and we were promptly shown to our table. Our waiter Peter was friendly and knowledgeable and made some wonderful recommendations like the Dragon Fruit Margarita, the Spicy Tuna Spring Roll and the Charred Cauliflower for appetizers. He was right and these were great choices. The Dragonfruit Margarita was not only beautiful but well balanced. The Tuna Spring Roll with the crisp romaine lettuce, herbs of mint, cilantro and basil and thoughtful dipping sauce made for a refreshing combination. The Charred Cauliflower featured a tasty harissa tahini sauce we also enjoyed. Our go-to appetizer is always the edamame dumpling and it was just as delicious as we remembered. For dinner we both ordered the recommended Grilled Sustainable Salmon. Yum! It's a gorgeous presentation and the flavors are so bright. Everything on the plate tasted super fresh. For dessert we shared the Flourless Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was certainly a treat. The cacao nibs added a nice texture and the caramel sauce provided a nice layer of flavor. It paired nicely with an after dinner espresso. All in all, it was a very pleasant Friday evening at TRUE FOOD KITCHEN and we very much enjoyed our dinner. I've been dying for my husband to try new healthy food as we always end up at Houston and LT. thankfully our waiter Luis was amazing and made our first experience at true food great so we decided to go back. Second time, again this terrible male hostess!!!! Please go away! Can we get someone more welcoming and pleasant. Jeez puts me in a bad mood before meal. Again the place was pretty empty, his response "do you have a reservation?" No reservation and he goes there will be a 20-30 mins wait. Hmm I looked at my husband and he looked at him and said the place is empty... he paused then he goes we are short staffed LOL oh god, we ended up going to Houston- always consistent, friendly hostesses and waitresses... food is always consistent..: we go there so often wish they can add new items to their menu but hands down most consistent and pleasant place to dine in. Came back a second time and wow oh wow was the service HORRIBLE! I couldn't even believe it. Waitress was so rude! We didn't get our water until many minutes after our food arrived. In addition no utensils were brought so our food sat and got cold until I finally got up and went inside to grab utensils myself ! We kept trying to flag the waitress down and she just ignored us. I really like the ambiance of True Food. It's very trendy and relaxing. I wish I could remember our server's name, but he was wonderful. Very friendly, professional, and his service throughout the evening was perfectly timed. To drink, I had the True Story (gin, chareau aloe, cucumber, snap pea, pineapple, lemon). Delicious, but I thought it was just a little too sweet for me. For starters my family enjoyed the edamame dumplings and edamame guacamole. For my main I got the teriyaki quinoa bowl. It's very good, I just wish it had less rice, and more veggies. The teriyaki sauce has nice flavor to it (It's not at all like that very sweet & artificial flavored teriyakis). I also tasted the Butternut Squash soup. It's DIVINE. I even tried to find the recipe to recreate it. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their dinners. My mom really loved the Garden pesto pizza. We have dined at TFK Hackensack a half dozen times and have always had a pleasant dining experience. Last night, however. left me disappointed. My Ancient Grains bowl was assembled without the care and attention I've grown to count on. The grilled onions were poorly prepped. Outer papery skins were left on and had to be spit out. The remaining onions had to be carefully inspected. I came across more papery skins and even an end that should have been discarded. And the service was poor as well. Our waiter went AWOL for around 20 minutes as we waited for our final dish to be cleared and our dessert orders taken. read more

The food here was excellent. I ordered the Tuscan kale salad with steak. It had the perfect citrus and freshness you'd want in a salad. The matcha horchata is a must get too! But what blew us away was the service here. Justin was our server and was so sweet and attentive. We learned it was his first week there, but he knew the menu like the back of his hand and had suggestions ready to go. He checked in regularly and had such a positive energy to him. We came here for brunch. Service was friendly and attentive. I had the Huevos Rancheros, nicely presented with one fried egg on top, flavor was too tangy (bean mixture) in my opinion. They also add pickled onions which does not help, the cilantro was wilted and had no flavor. My husband had the breakfast burrito which usually has steak, but they were out of meat, may have been more exciting with that ingredient, otherwise, nothing special. We had a side (one) of blueberry pancake, nothing special either. Maybe dinner is more exciting. read more

I keep ordering from here because they have some good options if you have food restrictions, but every time I receive my order it's either wrong or half missing. Tonight was the latter. I ordered a $35 salmon entree and a $7 side of rice pilaf -- see the photos. The side has not even 2 tablespoons of rice, and the salmon entrée is a very small piece of salmon with 2 mouthfuls of rice under it. It's disgraceful to charge over $30 for this. Also, The rice pilaf is undercooked and hard. My sister got the $33 steak meal, and she has 1 piece of inedible steak that's all fat, and 2 very tiny pieces. They look larger in the photo than they actually are. It's a big ripoff. Save yourself the headache of a wrong order and the disappointment of an overpriced "meal" where you hardly get any food, and go somewhere else. I've been ordering here for years and the quality continues to go down with each passing week. read more
