It has been 4.5 months since they first opened! They have upgraded the place a little to include 4 props for photos. I'm glad they did because their interior was too plain for IG worthy photos. On 2020-01-17, they introduced 4 new seasonal drinks: 1) White Peach Yakult, 2) Double Froasted Frosty with Mozza Foam, 3) Fresh Lemon Yakult, 4) Strawberry Matcha Latte. For Jan 17-18, you get 20% these 4 flavours. On 2020-01-18, I was a Tru foodie, fighting a snowstorm, to try these drinks. Ok, the 20% discount helped! I bought 2) and 4). For the Strawberry, it was nice with real strawberries in the drink. For the Double Roasted Frosty, the taste was good but I recommend getting 50% sugar because it was quite sweet. They also offer catering. There is no free WiFi or washrooms. There are 7 stools, one round table and one counter. Most people would order for takeout. read more

I really like the variety if teas and drinks that TRU offers and that they have a slight spin on their drinks which makes them slightly different from their neighboring competition. The drinks itself are relatively lighter in taste but still balanced. Nothing too out of the ordinary but I did enjoy the teas and you can taste what the drink describes. Their osmanthus oolong was nice, and their tapioca had a good chew. Prices are decent and quality is present. They're continuously having new flavours so cant wait to go back. read more

I bought 3 different drinks so far. All were delicious. I decided to go after seeing their Instagram posts about how they're different and more healthy (trupioca and real ingredients). Taro milk tea was my fav. Tea very strong. I don't even like taro but the texture was great. The strawberry trupioca and mango sago were very fruity and flavourful as well. However, in my last encounter the staff decided to do some playing around at the register making me wait 5 mins without any explanation (ignoring me). When i finally got to order, they messed up my sugar level. I asked for no sugar but got light sugar. I didn't notice until I got on the subway and drank my drink. Too late to go back and complain. Overall i like the drinks and find them better than other expensive bbt places. I also like that it's closer than current favorite bbt place in Chinatown. read more

I had my first visit to TRU TEA a couple months ago. For my first time, I had their Double Roasted Frosty (w Mozza Foam). It really does taste like an iced capp but the bubble tea version! I usually have hot or cold bubble tea drinks so it was nice to have a frosty bubble tea for a change.  ---  I got this with 70% sugar but if you're not much of a sugar person, I recommend going for 30% sugar. Really friendly service. I was excited that this very neat bbt store was opening up and decided to come here after work one day with my coworker. There was a bit of a wait but it was fine, it gave us enough time to decide on what to get. I got the mango tru-pioca and it was yummy, the jelly reminded me of kanten agar (maybe it was haha). The mango flavor was strong, I enjoyed it. We went back again and I got to try their other drinks such as the fresh taro tru tea and it was delicious! Noticed there was another bbt shop around the corner from Chatime and decided to check it out. Nice place with simple decor and bright lighting. It's much smaller with 4 seats along the window and a small table to the side, but it's not bad. The menu is not huge, but it has variety. There were four new drinks being promoted and I went with their Double Roasted Frosty, which is a roasted milk tea with mozzarella cheese foam. The milk tea itself has a creamy texture and a rich flavour. Cheese foam was quite dense compared to some other ones I've had at other places, though I'd probably just get the milk tea on its own. Price for the basic milk tea is comparable to chatime around the corner but I'd probably get the milk tea from here instead. read more

Friend and I were feeling adventurous and wanted to try a local bubble tea spot in the area instead of our regular go-to, Coco's, and Tru Tea came up with great reviews and pictures, so we went here without a second thought. Advertised drinks as well as the location were aesthetically appealing; clean and quiet. Staffs were friendly, although the girl who was taking our order seemed like she was new, and wasn't too sure about the drink options, the add-ins, etc. Surprisingly, they did not have my regular, Matcha Milk tea, so I had to pick something else. Drinks: I opted in for the Golden Mango Green Tea tru*fresh with tapioca, and my friend, after not being able to get the drink she went in for, since they weren't serving that at this location, opted in for the Coconut Mango tru*seasonal (w/ tapioca & w/o pudding); the only downside were the sizes, since the Mango Green tea only came in large and the Coconut Mango was only available in regular, although my friend would have preferred a large as well. Also, the sugar level was not adjustable in the coconut mango and the drink ended up being too sweet for our liking, however tasted great, while the mango green tea was very refreshing and had fruit pieces in it. There were generous amount of tapioca in our drinks so we were happy. Price: The drinks were very fairly priced for the quality, with the Golden Mango Green tea being $5.95 plus $0.50 for a large with tapioca, and the Coconut Mango being $6.25 plus $0.50 for the regular. Tried out the Ovaltine Cake Creme because it was BOGO on uber eats. I was pleasantly surprised with how good it tasted! It's a pretty sweet drink but you can tell that from the name. It tasted like ovaltine with a bit of powder in there so just make sure you stir it well. It only came in the regular size and it is quite pricey so not somewhere i'd come often but definitely serves as a tasty treat. read more

I felt like hot drinks here are not recommend here. they have nice drinks on the menu but not meant for serving hot!?! i asked the cashier if there were hot drinks. she said there were and showed me. i picked the purple yam one. It came with cold foam on a lukewarm milk. Not sure how to drink it either with a bubble tea straw but the lid does not offer a way for a straw to go thru. So confused. As a taro lover myself, i really do recommend this fresh taro tru tea drink, because it's the perfect combination of mash taro, milk tea, and purple rice all in one drink. Tru opened recently near College Station, an area that is already supersaturated with excellent bubble tea shops. We ordered a large fresh taro milk tea with purple rice. The light sugar level corresponds to around 60% sugar levels at other places. The bubble tea was great - it reminded us of fresh HK milk tea we tried in Hong Kong. Today I tried their Double Roasted Frosty with Mozza Foam as well as the Strawberry Matcha Latte since they were the new items. I really liked the Double Roasted Frosty! The cheese foam gave a slightly salty flavour to complement the sweetness that comes with the creamy flavour. It tastes better than the other cheese foam ones I've tried elsewhere for sure. I order three tea: Two made with wrong sizes and one of them is leaking that I couldn't drink. Third one taste like water, i doubt that they didn't even put tea in it. Talk to them and they said because of the COVID19, and the order was made from a new employee. I ordered Lychee Dragon Fruit Miracle, and add Osmanthus flower jelly. Drink is great and I really like it. BUT, I waited for almost 20mins while there were only 4 drinks before me. One girl was taking order for customers and also making drinks. She was doing everything quick even she was not too familiar with the drink recipe. Her partner, another guy he was soooo slow! The girl already made the tea base, and the guy just needed to put two slices of lime, pour the tea base into the cup, and put some dragon fruit on the top, the few steps, he took around 10mins. So in the 10mins (while the tea base was ready), he checked each order after mine, I thought he was going to make some easier drinks after mine because mine looks complicated , but he did nothing, but just checking or looking for something... and he didn't make any drinks in the 10 minutes!!! And the store was busy One more thing...the guy put very little topping in each drink. I saw the girl put one and half spoon of tapioca, but the guy just put one spoon with a very slow movement. I just got two tiny spoons of osmanthus flower jelly, you can't even taste while drinking. I really like Tru tea's drink and it is very unique. I will definitely come back to try other drinks. We got the Tru Milk Tea and Double Roasted Milk Tea with Tapioca: 1. Milk Tea (4.5/5): Pretty good. Flavourful, rich, and malty. You can really taste the "double" part of the Double Roasted Milk Tea. 2. Tapioca (1/5): Clumsily bad. Texture was chunky and not chewy. To give some context, Coco or Chatime has relatively better tapioca. Also, the tapioca at Tru Tea is TOO LARGE for their straws! We had a difficult time enjoying the drink since every few seconds the flow would randomly stop. 3. Service (1/5): Actually kind of terrible. I told the cashier 3 times (once when I ordered, second time when I saw that she didn't include it as a topping on the screen, and a third time before I paid to make 100% sure) that I wanted barley as a topping in my drink, yet ended up with a drink without barley. Also after telling her a second time, she responded with "You don't want tapioca?" Like no man, I just wanted some barley -.-, can you please???? 4. Presentation/Design (5/5): Cool cups. It comes with a dongle that allows you to re-seal the tumbler-shaped cups, so if you've ever stabbed the plastic cover of bubble tea too hard and ended up with a gaping hole on top of your giant cup of milk tea, check out Tru Tea. Overall, if you want to try out a new bubble tea joint, you can check out Tru Tea - just don't get anything with tapioca in it; however, there are definitely better new bubble tea places in the area such as Xin Fu Tang just a 3 mins walk away north of Yonge and College. Maybe it'll take some time for Tru Tea to get things right (ie. order new straws that properly accommodate the size of their tapioca), but for now, imho, given the vast number of competing bubble tea places in the area, for $6 you can get a better bang for your buck elsewhere. read more

I asked if they carried alternative options that is not milk. Cause ya girl is lactose intolerant but still loves bubble tea. The girl there had 0% clue what I was saying. So,naturally i explained do you have almond milk? Oat milk? Lactose free milk? Still doesn't know what I'm referring to. So I dropped it. I was a bit sad cause is a common problem. We went on Friday during their Grand Opening BOGO event. The Fresh Taro Tru Tea was very delicious. The deluxe purple yam was purchased out of curiosity and because it was on their top 10 list. Personally myself, I am not a huge fan about tapioca so if there wasn't tapioca in the drink already, it would've been perfect. I personally would recommend to try out their teas since you can actually taste the tea flavour and goes so well with the toppings. read more

This review is for the taro tea. Supposed to be made with fresh taro with purple rice. I couldn't taste taro at all, they must have mixed it in with the tea because there were no chunks like they do at other bubble tea places. And there were only tiny bits of rice. I had this drink on two separate occasions in case they just messed it up the first time but no this is just how it's designed. Very disappointing drink. Also, I ordered it hot and it was lukewarm bordering on cool. What a waste of 7$! I basically just got a lukewarm milk tea. read more

i love a few of their drinks a lot. not all are that good but those i like are terrific to me. useless to tell which as i know tastes of customers here vary a lot. it is way better than chatime with fresher ingredients and more sophisticated combinations, once you have found the ones that you like personnally. prices are grossly ok. just wished they had a patron program to have a free drink every so often... and more staff to be able to serve customers faster...do not even try if you see more than 5 people in the store... you would have to wait there a good 20 minutes to get your order..let s not imagine if more people... which almost never happens as regulars know they should go another dayor time read more

Edit: The pineapple tea is now available for everyone! :) Tried this place twice. First time ordered the kiwi, 2nd time ordered the dragonfruit. Didn't take off any stars despite the lack of flavor/fruit that I wanted (and my favourite flavour) because the drinks were really good. Tapioca pearls were done perfectly and were satisfyingly chewy. Trust me - I've tried almost every bubble tea shop in this city and San Francisco. The fruits (if you pick a fruit drink) are perfect as well - blended to funnel through the straw with an abundance of flavor without having to drench the drink in sugar. Other reviewers say the chain has bad communication but they probably confuse it with the language barrier/culture difference. Their drink options aren't very flexible (sugar levels on fruit drinks aren't adjustable, for shame), but if/when you order it, it's done right and proper. I might not make this my regular shop because it's definitely way pricier (taxes in was $9-ish for my drink) but this place is certainly a welcome addition to my regular rotation of shops when I'm in the area. read more

This Is a great place to consider for your next bubble tea adventure. It's in a great area, a short walk from the busyness of downtown Toronto. I ordered classic milk tea with tapioca pearls, the tea wasnt as sweet as I have had at other places but thats up to your preference if you like it sweet or not. The tapioca was a little under cooked but I didn't really mind. The store is very clean and well decorated, there isn't much seating so its not really a sit down place. I live across the street and had their tea twice so far. First was the classic double roasted Tru tea. Very good. The second was the fresh taro Tru tea. I liked it but I find that they skimmed out on the purple rice as there were barely any. For the price, you can afford to add more rice. I hope you keep the same level of tea strength since other bubble tea places tend to water down their teas after a while, which made me stop going. I'll try other teas but please stop being so stingy with the toppings. read more
