I've been here many times over the last year through COVID and have always found Tru Bru to be practicing and following the current health guidelines with respect to the CDC's recommendations. Has been on my list to go visit for SO long and finally met up with a friend here. Parking isn't hard, there is a parking lot so you will find parking no matter what. Decor/Ambiance: There were a lot of college students, so a lot of studying going on. The inside reminded me very much of a Starbucks vibe. Not a bad thing but just something to compare it to I guess. Plenty of tables and sofa seating as well as bar seating and a long table with several high chairs. Drinks: My friend got the Lavender latte and the flavor isn't too strong, very subtle. She felt like it was too bitter so added Agave syrup to it and it tasted much better. But if you're trying to be healthy stick to no syrups. I got the Chai Latte with oat milk and it's probably one of the best I've ever had and this is my go-to drink at EVERY coffee shop. Would I come back? Yes, I would. There are people eating and studying indoors wearing no face masks. Some of the workers also don't wear their masks either. Food and drinks are mediocre at best. I got the avocado toast and it was super bland. The toast was just cream cheese, sliced avocado, and some Everything But the Bagel Seasoning. We came here after a walk at Irvine Regional Park. We sat in the front patio since we had our dog with us. They had a big water bowl out for him which was nice. I got a hibiscus iced tea and their breakfast bacon burrito. Service was quick and the employee that gave us our food was very friendly. My hibiscus tea was ok, it tasted kind of off. I tried my Mom's chai iced coffee and it was really good. It was creamy and had a hint of cinnamon, I really liked it. I like their small, circular ice cubes here. They're soft so they're perfect for munching on. My breakfast bacon burrito turned out good. I liked the plating, the soft and warm tortilla and the crunchy and delicious bacon. The potatoes were undercooked though. They had some tapatio sauce too which I used to add some spice. This place was a nice stop after our walk. It gave us some time to relax. read more

I go to this place pretty often. Not for the food, which is overpriced and mediocre, but specifically for their dirty chai lattes. Made the trek over this morning, ordered two Dirty Chi Lattes (with oat milk), and they forgot to make it dirty (with espresso), which was the whole point. Both our drinks just tasted like Luke warm milk. And after waiting a pretty long time too. Pretty disappointing, I just threw mine away. They also need a better system with their menu/ordering situation. Long line and you don't get to see their food item options til you get to the register to order, and by then you are rushed cause there is a long line behind you. I don't understand why they don't have the menus available to view while standing in line. Would be much more efficient and help the line move faster. read more

This is my second time coming here. It's across the street from Santiago Canyon College, so you'll likely see a few students studying during the week. When I got here, the first thing I noticed was that it was crowded. I walked up to the line and ordered a small 12oz mocha for $4.50. A bit on the higher end, especially for a smaller drink. I found a seat on the high table in the middle of the shop. There are few tables with access to outlets. Make sure your laptop is charged before coming here. Got my coffee a bit after I sat down, not too long of a wait. The mocha itself was pretty good but not 5-stars. The ambiance is good, they have a fire place! I'd recommend this place if you're coming to hangout or read a book, but not if you're planning to use your computer. read more

I have always loved Tru Bru. At least one person in our family has been here every day for the past few years. We love the scones, the avocado toast, the coffee, and the breakfast burritos. During the more locked down phase, we remained loyal customers. Unfortunately now, every time we try to go here, we cannot go in. There is very little regard for distancing or mask wearing. But, subsequent times the latte was not made the same. The place was very busy both times and I'm guessing that's why it was just average. The staff weren't as friendly (not unfriendly just not like the first girl), and there's zero diversity. I'd like to see some marketing to a more diverse group of people. I came here with my mom earlier today, and out of all the times I'd say we both had the worst experience thus far from here. For me, I got called up twice. Once for my drink, and then for our food. Both times, there was a blonde lady in a purple Tru Bru work shirt and a black hoodie. She flat out stared at me like I was a problem. I said thank you both times and I just got a stare. My mom brought the issue up to the manager because it was her fourth time experiencing the exact same stare from the exact same girl. When my mom brought it up to the manager, we just got told that she has had other past complaints and that was it. So, in my eyes *as a filipino*, this looks racist because she doesn't even stare or look at the white customers. But when it comes to my mom, she gets stared at by the girl. And then when it came to me, I say "thank you" both times audibly loud enough for her to hear across the counter and I just get stared at. She honestly doesn't even need to say "you're welcome," she could ignore me for all I care but just don't stare at customers like they're a problem. The only reason why I'm giving three stars is because most of the other employees are extremely nice. The food is great, drink menu is good, the atmosphere is wonderful. But as a minority, it's a huge turn off to just get stared at by a white girl but nothing happens to the white customer after me, and then nothing happens but we just get told *by the manager* that it's happened before. Why put her in a position to interact with customers behind the bar and register when she's had so many complaints?? I feel bad that I don't know his name but shoutout to the black guy, wonderful customer service and keeps it short and sweet. I would definitely put him on more. I ordered a grilled chicken and asparagus salad. This could have been five stars but they loaded it with Asparagus Stems. Who eats only stems and what did they do with the asparagus tips? My meal was 3 stars but could have been 5. Customer Service-AOK Friendly people running the place and everyone is full of smiles. ~Lack of seating-(-1) Star This really got me annoyed. I understand if it was a full house with customers but most tables had no food or drink or empty cups. I even saw two girls with Algebra books eating Cheetos out of their back packs. I think this is very important to mention because I won't be coming back for this reason. I have studied and worked from cafés all my life. Haven't been here in a year or so and forgot just how good it is. My usual drink is a hot dirty chai latte with almond milk and man was it delicious! I'm very picky and this is the best one I've had in a while (I usually go to Bodhi Leaf near my house which I love) but this one takes the cake not only because of the taste but the fact that it's organic. I also didn't realize they had food and decided to get the grass fed burger which was super simple yet delicious. It came on a buttery bun and had simple toppings. You could tell by the taste it was quality meat. I don't eat meat often, I usually go for veggie burgers but on occasion I'll have meat if I think it's worth it, and that was definitely a treat! Not only did everything taste great but it's was a decent price. Paid about $24 with tip which for an organic place, is a miracle in my opinion!
