Food trucks parks are a distinctly Austin-ite art form, and this one is pretty good. I was invited…read morehere for a Yelp function and got to sample a number of delicacies on offer from the resident trucks. Of special note is the very good blueberry lemonade from Conscious Cravings, as well as a to-die-for selection of goat cheese from the Chivata Goat Cheese Truck. (Seriously, go check out their trailer and pick up one of their sandwiches, your tummy will thank you.) Pros: Outdoor and *indoor* seating - useful when it rains or bakes in Austin, which it can. Reasonable selection of food trucks, you'll find something to try. Bathroom facilities are fine and not port-a-potties. Cons: Some of the trucks hold odd hours on the weekend. Parking is at a premium, with about a dozen spots and 2 handicapped spots. You can find parking on the side streets but be careful crossing 1st Street as the traffic zooms by at light speed! All in all, this location is well worth a visit!

It's always a plus when cute furry friends are a plus! It is also kid friendly too! I've tried every single food truck in this area and there is just too many good things to say about each and every vendor, from their cooking, and packaging to their service and friendliness!

Waah. Development…read moreand gentrification are destroying the great food truck courts of First Street. Many of the finest ones have either closed or are draining out. What's the issue? Landlords want the land to build new high density apartment buildings. * * * Double Waah. The Bouldin Creek Food Park is still around. Bouldin Creek Food Park is probably the worst of the traditional First Street food courts. It is the northernmost of the First Street food courts - the one nearest to Palmer Auditorium and downtown. It is on a teeny tiny strip of land between First Street itself and the gulch of East Bouldin Creek. The lot is too narrow and oddly shaped to permit high density development. So the landlords are going to leave this place alone. Just as there is precious little room for development, There is also precious little room for the food trucks and the parking. So simply from lack of space, the customers sit practically on First Street itself. The eating tables get the full blast of First Street traffic. The eaters get the noise and the carbon monoxide. They also get the uncompromising blast of the Austin summer sun There is one exception to the rule. If you look carefully, you will find exactly one table in the back that is rustic, quiet and pretty. The East Bouldin Creek Gulch runs there. The gulch has lots of shade and really nice rock cliffs. Picnic heaven? No such luck. The back is where they dump the detritus and spare junk from the food trucks. The back has pallets, framing and extra plastic bottles the carts don't have room for. You are in a eating in a trash pile, a shady trash pile but still a trash pile. * * * Life gets more interesting if you have to go to the bathroom. The bathroom literally is a porta-potty. To be fair, they empty it frequently, so it is not too gross. However, there is no running water to wash your hands after you do your business. Not being able to wash your hands is not great if you intend to eat food afterwards. * * * If the food trucks were absolutely marvelous, one might tolerate the bad location and set-up. The trucks they have are run of the mill. Dawa is better than run of the mill. The rest are ho hum. All of these trucks would be more pleasant in a nicer location. Mueller for example would be a huge promotion for any of them. If you have a food truck you adore, and Bouldin Creek is where it happens to be, all power to you. Enjoy your meal. Enjoy watching the cars drive by. Be sure to go to the bathroom before you leave the house.

YeHAW! Nucleartacos hosted a party at SXSW 2009, and it blew the panties off the Austin Hot Sauce…read moreFestival. The party was free to the public with all you can eat tacos, 2 complimentary adult beverages, and all you can drink Fuze, Sierra Mist, and Pepsi. Also, there was a truck handing out free ice cream. These tacos are HOT. In addition to regular spices in the meat, they also added heaping scoops of minced habaneros. The meat came in 2/5 atomic bombs, 4/5 atomic bombs, and the veggie came in 2/5 atomic bombs. There were two men cooking the meat up front. One of which commented that I should see what else he could do at home. But them he pointed to his finger and said, "But I'm married." I replied, "That's okay. I'm a lesbian." The two chicks from Philly behind me burst into laughter. I started off with just 2 tacos packed with carne, just a bit of cheese, some tomatoes, lettuce, and sour cream sauce. I ate with the two girls behind me and some other strangers, and yes, I cried. I had a full cup of the 2/5 mixture straight up. I think if I had a smaller portion of carne, it wouldn't have been so bad. After I cooled my mouth, I walked down to Speakeasy for their free food and drink party. On my way, I spotted Amber D. and asked her to tag along. Speakeasy's was dead. I've never seen a SXSW event so dead. And there was no food or drinks that we could see 20 minutes after the advertised time. Amber D. and I made our way back Brush Creek Park for more tacos and drinks. I had another 2 tacos, and I put the sour cream sauce on them so they were barely spicy the second time around. Haberno Joy! There was also a taco eating contest, but I already had dinner plans in 15 minutes. 5 stars for: Tacos with a kick Complimentary Drinks Complimentary Ice Cream and the weather happened to be gorgeous

I consider this more of a public service than a business: clearing the sinuses of SXSW Interactive attendees. C'mon, you look a little stuffed up. Have a taco! So, I know these people, and you won't find a friendlier group of geeks who share a love of very spicy noms. You get to assemble your own taco (soft or crunchy), starting with ground beef that usually comes in "hot," "extra hot," and "vegetarian." There is no mild. There is no medium. You get spicy tacos or you get spicier tacos. Don't be so quick to brush off the vegetarian pseudo-beef as any kind of slouch, either. With no beef fat to soak up the heat, sometimes these end up being the spicier ones on the table. While I mourn the lack of cilantro and onion for the tacos, the emphasis with the add-ons table isn't really flavor so much as, um, "damage control." Lettuce and tomato might help soak up a little heat, but your best bet is with the cheese and sour cream. I don't like sour cream, so my tacos usually consist of a bit of beef and a huge pile of cheese. If your balls are much, much larger than your brain, please enter the eating contest. They'll serve up the spiciest batch of taco meat they can make. Usually there's some kind of worthy cause to donate to via jars on the table. '11 was tsunami relief for Japan and '12 was Caritas in memory of Leslie. Stuff a couple bucks in the jar and thank your friendly taco cooks. The crowd at Nuclear Tacos is always a blast. I met the "Ow, My Balls!" guy here one year. Oh yes, that means that my life is pretty much complete now. If it comes back next year, drop by and indulge in a little foodie masochism. These tacos RULE.
