Many restaurants in the area becomes overwhelmed however, management here and or the owner/operator know what to do to keep the flow going. The food preparer was not wearing a mask while preparing drinks and talking to a customer who wasn't wearing a mask. I called to make a complaint and discovered he was the manager on duty. Got to the store at 5:10pm and the doors were closed and the workers said they were closed and weren't going to serve. If you wanted to NOT serve your customers then say it closes at 5. I ordered through the app. When I arrived at the store. I parked right in front of the door. I called and asked if someone could meet me at the door with my order. My baby was asleep and I didn't want to wake her. They told me they couldn't do that. They don't do curbside. But they do delivery and still wasn't willing to meet me at the door of their restaurant with my order. So I didn't have to walk too far from my car. When I opened the door. None of the to go all orders were sitting out to grab and go. I had just spoken not but 30 seconds earlier and told them I was here and they couldn't even have my order out and ready to grab and run. I always thought they were just smoothies but the sandwiches and wraps all sounded great. The jerk chicken wrap was delicious and I had to try the island green smoothie, so yumm! My boyfriend and I struggled to find a quick, healthy breakfast place during our first few days in Williamsburg, but then we discovered Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Their smoothies are nothing like what you could make at home. They're like iced juice, with all kinds of amazing real fruit (and vegetable!) flavors, with only a little bit of added organic sugar (optional) and you can even add protein boosts or other smoothie boosts. Not to mention the smoothies are huge! They also serve breakfast wraps, lunch wraps and salads. I think we tried just about everything on the menu during our stay and we were never disappointed. I love this place! Even though most people go for the smoothies, I actually go for the food which I find to be fantastic. The owner is really nice and he always treats me very well. Though I hardly ever eat inside, the place always seems clean and well maintained. I usually call in my order ahead of time and regardless of how busy they are inside, the owner always picks up the phone and has my order ready by the time I drive by (usually ready in 5mins or less). I feel it would be a disservice to everyone if they weren't aware of this tropical smoothie's conditions. Having worked here as well as numerous other tropical smoothie locations, I can safely say this is the DIRTIEST store I have ever seen. First things first, all tropical smoothie stores use sugary syrup for their coconut, kiwi, pomegranate, goji, acai, lime, and cranberry juices-but this store NEVER cleans out these containers. When I tried to clean out the containers, the employees who had been there for up to a year stated that cleaning the containers out was a good idea, but they didn't have to do it there. These containers are NEVER cleaned. Same thing goes for the sauces, pineapple, and frozen fruit containers. Not only that, but their jalapeño chicken spread went out of date months ago. They are STILL using it on customer's sandwiches. The yogurt has chunks in the containers which they feed to customers (it's spoiled), the freezer had rotten fruit all molded to the floor, there's sticky coconut residue which has hardened to be as rough as a diamond on all the protein scoops...this store is a wreck. There are dead roaches on the floor in the kitchen and behind the cash register. The fact that this place is still open and has not been shut down is a GROSS miscarriage of health inspection justice. Do not eat here unless you want a roach-filled and soggy spinach inspired dose of food poisoning. No other tropical smoothie I've worked at has had roaches from what I've seen, let alone 5 in one day. STAY AWAY. read more
