I come to this location very often, almost weekly. Had an issue with the app and my order (smoothie) populated incorrectly. Ms. Kathy, store manager, was extremely rude and unprofessional when I asked could my order be remade upon my arrival. She stated very angrily with hostility "that's $8," as if she paid for it. When I asked for my money back, she said it would take 5-7 business days. She literally had a tantrum, evidenced by slamming blenders, snatching the drink from my hand and throwing it away. She insisted that I made the mistake and it wasn't her team. I know that because I informed her again of the app issue. I asked her would it be remade because she ignored me after throwing my drink away; she stated "yea.... this won't happen again though." Ms. Kathy shouldn't be a manager or a part of any leadership team, and she clearly hates working here. I was passing through the area and decided to get an acai bowl to go. I read previous reviews so I will note the restaurant (front area + restroom) was clean and the employees were nice. The only thing I'd improve would be the quality of the fruit used for the topping. The bananas that were used on my bowl weren't fresh; they were mushy and had that "old banana smell". read more

I went to get a couple smoothies. The staff was very unprofessional and making comments about other customers that were very uncalled for. Then to top it off, one of the smoothies they made for me was so bitter I could not drink it. And I have gotten the same one many times. I provided feedback, they gave me a free smoothie card. I decided to stop by ~8:40pm to redeem. I had to wait ~ 8 minutes to order and went over to the side to wait for my drink. I waited and watched for over 25 minutes for my smoothie. The lady working the register was able to step away long enough to make 2 smoothies the whole time I was standing there. Finally, with a handful of additional people waiting to place their order, I ask the lady to get one of her peers to come from the back to help her because she got so far behind there were 15+ people waiting now. At least 4 other were working at that time but none would come from the back to help her. She was finally able to finish up and make my smoothie. She was very apologetic even though she was doing everything she could. Her manager/shift leader failed to support her and make sure her peers helped her. Two very bad experiences in a row from a place that should have a very fast turnover of customer because of how quick you can make smoothies. The smoothie was made correctly this time and tasted great. Just needs management to step up and take ownership on running the store. read more

This location is one of the worst ones I've visited. I made a mistake and grabbed the wrong bag and smoothie. Once I realized this, I returned the bag, and the smoothie to the front counter clerk. I told her what I did, & I apologized. I mentioned how I did take a sip of this smoothie but I hadn't touched the contents of the bag. I offered to even pay for it, and did tell her I'll take my items now. I brought it up to her that I even left her a tip. I was hoping this would make her feel better since it was my mistake. I felt so bad! As I was walking away from the counter she yelled, oh you saw this wasn't your name and you grabbed the wrong one! I mean I did a mistake but I didn't have to bring the items back and I did offer to to pay for that too! I said it politely. There was another employee sitting at the counter on the customer side of the lobby, she yelled, "Oh man, come on, leave!" This was handled so wrong. If enough customers don't return I'm sure they'll be leaving this job too! On numerous accounts this place hasn't been welcoming with customer service. I'll never return because the employees are so rude and I sure hope when they make a mistake, no one yelled at them the way they yelled at me. Tropical Smoothie is my go to spot for an after workout smoothie. The Peanut Paradise Superfood Smoothie is what I normally get after a hard workout. When I want something refreshing I go with the Pomegranate Plunge Superfood Smoothie. This one is located in the same shopping center as my gym so it is super convenient. The staff here is awesome. They make the best smoothies and make great suggestions. The other Tropical Smoothies in RVA are not as good as this one.The flat bread sandwiches are really good as well. The Cali Chicken Club is my my go to flatbread sandwich. It has fresh smashed avocado on it, I am currently obsessed with avocado. I love the fact that everything is so fresh. The bright atmosphere and Caribbean music doesn't hurt either. Be sure to download the app and set up your profile to pay with your smartphone. You earn points and rewards that are redeemable for money off your purchases. The more you pay with your phone via the app, the quicker your earn rewards. You probably would get your food quicker showing up to a popular restaurant on Valentines Day without a reservation than getting a smoothie here. This is insane. Hire more help! I'm certain whoever runs this restaurant has no restaurant experience at all. The young man and last making the smoothies kept their cool despite being overwhelmed. When I asked the manager, the lady with the dread locks/ braids how long it would be, she said "your food been up there" which wasn't true because not only was I right there when she put the wrap up but the order still wasn't complete. After waiting over an hour, the young lady making the smoothie apologized at least 3 times which made things better. However, when the Maher finished the order, she came and tossed it on the counter. I had compassion enough to still say thank you, but the manager just turned around and walked off as if I was wrong to ask about an hour long smoothie and as if it was my fault it took so long. She was so unprofessional I laughed to myself because I've worked in fine dining and thought well I guess what do you expect. Unreal to be that bold to take that long and be unapologetic on top on it and having an attitude. I think the manager wants to seem as if everything is under control while the ship is sinking. She should have said: "don't take any more orders until we get caught up." That was the main issue. They were swimming out further to deep water while already drowing. Her response shows how clueless she is to what's acceptable and what's not. She tossed the food, ignored my thank you and walked off like F you for wanting your smoothie and wrap under an hour. The lady responding to all of these reviews should get off of the computer and get back there to help these people if she's too cheap to get them more help. Per walking in I Notice very poor housekeeping, fruits laying out open, dirty floors and very trashy which was very unsanitary. Personnel seemed annoyed as more clients walked in. I was looking for something a little bit different for breakfast and came across Tropical Smoothie Cafe. My initial reaction was sounds like a great healthy alternative. The smoothie's are delicious, very large and extremely filling (makes me wonder how healthy they are). It would be nice if there was nutrition information available. They have breakfast and lunch sandwiches available and I've had both on different occasions. They are very good and you get a small discount on your smoothie purchase which each sandwich so why not opt for both :). It took a few minutes to make the smoothies and while I was waiting I looked at the cookies right by the register ... I was a little disappointed to find out that they were just your typical cookies and no added protein or health content included. While everything is very good and the staff does a great job, I if you're looking for a healthy alternative may want to do a little more research before making the assumption. read more

Visited the Tropical Smoothie on Midlothian Tpke yesterday with my friend. We stopped in to pick up smoothies for ourselves, and a couple of our other friends. We ordered our smoothies and gave the young person at the register our cash. The young person called over the manager because he did not have change. The woman who came over, began to complain in front of all the customers that we should've seen the sign at the front of the store saying exact change only. She was extremely rude and continued to complain about how customers are stupid and don't pay attention to the sign. While we were waiting for our smoothies, the "manager" continued stomping around, complaining and making another sign to post. My friend, who was really upset by the whole behavior from the "manager" spoke to this woman and let her know that she might want to put the sign in a better place this time. The "manager" was extremely rude to my friend and told her she needed to stop talking and she didn't want to hear what she had to say. My friend told her she was sorry that she was having a bad day, but her attitude was unacceptable. This woman told us she could just give us our money back and make us leave. That's what she did. She then called me an imbecile as I was walking out of the store. That's when I turned around to say something. I was calm the whole time. She told me she was going to call the police and picked up the phone. She started giving some license plate from a random car. I asked for a management phone number and she refused to give it. A younger employee at the smoothie machine refused to give me management number. She told me I could look it up myself. Extremely poor customer service at this location. I will never step foot in that store again. The "manager" needs to look for another line of work that does not require her direct interaction with people. read more

There is one visit That comes to mind with this location. Currently they have a featured product the Cajun shrimp wrap and hurricane smoothie. I ordered this combo then come to find out They did not have the Creole sauce that goes with the wrap, and I had to choose another sauce. Therefore, technically it isn't a feature product anymore. My smoothie was finished first the young lady was very fast but the smoothie was a little watery. This isn't the first time I noticed their smoothies are more on the water reside in the thicker side. I prefer my smoothies to be a nice consistency so in the middle of watery and too thick. Oh man that took my order is the person who did my wrap. He was much slower than the young ladies that fix my smoothie. I was not impressed by the taste of the wrap, and I was not impressed with the timeliness of my entire order Because the young man was so slow. I used to be a regular at this location and I would literally go about five times a week. Then there was the free smoothie event and I arrived about ten minutes before it started and so since I couldn't wait, I asked if they could make an exception. The manager said "no". That was in June. So I stopped going there and at first I said I wouldn't even bother going back because I felt it was inconsiderate. So today I go back again because I'm all about second chances. I go in and I'm ready to order. Nobody else was on the line. The cashier is holding $5 in her hand and says I can't order because she's in the middle of a transaction because someone went to their car to get more money. I wait about two minutes which doesn't seem like a long time in writing, but in a line standing idle-- it's just too long. So I ask if I can at least say the order so that the people who make the smoothies could at least start making it since we are all just literally standing around. She responds with a nasty attitude that I needed to wait. No ma'am! I can find smoothies all over the city and you're not going to get nasty with me because you prefer to stand around doing nothing. I'm a pretty active yelper and when I visit places regularly, I'm as honest as possible. If there's a different tropical smoothie that I can go to or even a smoothie king, I'll patronize them instead. read more
