I am tired of the constant racism and racial profiling. Today I asked to speak with a manager. Mike came out and doubted everything I told him. No apology. No understanding. In fact, he constantly interrupted me. When I told him he was interrupting he said, "I just let you speak." A very nasty way to be with a customer. He actually said "why should I believe you over them," and "this is not going to go how you want it to go." What I wanted and what I should have gotten as a customer was an apology and at least a commitment from the store to take my concerns seriously and do better. He assumed I misunderstood and that the responsibility to prove racism occurred fell on my shoulders. He was defensive, rude, and frankly perpetuated the racism I tried to make him see. His only solution was for him to watch the videos to see if they indeed followed me so he could consider "both sides." Everything was about justifying their movements instead of acknowledging what I said. I went to management as a courtesy, but he just ended up making it worse. Goes to show, you can put a mural of a Black woman on the side of your business, you can even hire Black workers, but if you don't do the work of educating your management on customer service and racial profiling, you will lose customers and support.
