If you have a SAAB, there is nowhere else you should go to get outstanding service. On top of all that, the work is done quickly. The owner, Nate, said "we don't have cars here for weeks on end. My Nissan truck broke down this morning. While I called Ian to try to get my truck in, he walked me through a few steps over the phone to see if my truck would start before bringing it in. (Says a lot right there). After an attempted jump start, I got it towed in. While an appointment was normally necessary, he said he would try to take a look and see what he could do. Not only was he able to diagnose my initial problem, but he brought up two more issues that could be potential problems. He was able to get everything fixed by the end of the day and his prices were reasonable. While they specialize in SAAB, I have a VW and said he will be able to do work on that one as well. I had the 30k service done on my 2010 Subaru Impreza here and it was a great experience. I know they specialize in SAAB's but they can work on any car and they did a great job on mine. I brought my car in for its 30k service and I dealt with Ian. He was very polite and knowledgeable. We went over all the work that would be done and the prices. I wasn't exactly prepared for how much it would cost so we discussed some options. He was very helpful and we settled on the work that would be done and he even provided a loaner car for the day, which was a nice touch. Later in the day I even received a call from Ian, updating me on the progress of the car and letting me know that one of the procedures would not need to be done because after he checked the transmission fluid he realized it didn't need replaced. I bought my car used from a dealer and wasn't sure what services they had done on it but apparently they had already replaced it. He also let me know that my front brake pads were getting very low, something I had noticed myself when washing my wheels so it wasn't a surprise when he suggested I have them replaced since I would need to soon anyways. When I arrived at Troll Motors later that day my car was ready and waiting for me. I spoke with Ian again and he let me know everything was good to go and even showed me my old filters so I could see first hand that they did indeed need to be replaced. My overall experience here was a very positive one and I will definitely be back when I need any other repairs on my car. Got a Toyota, Honda or Porsche...these are not the guys for you. Quick turn around, loaner if you need it and very accommodating guys. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is if your Saab needs a repair on a Friday afternoon you can forget about because these two guys are headed for the outdoors somewhere. Troll Motors is TRUSTWORTHY with QUALITY work! I will always bring my cars to them. They repaired my Jeep engine, reviewed the diagnostic report with me, and tested my SUV to make sure it performed like it should - safe and reliable. The owners, Ian and Nate, are kind, professional, and easy to reach. I found Troll Motors by a recommendation by a friend who had their truck's engine rebuilt, so I took my Jeep in for a second quote. They saved me money and my Jeep! Why do I say Trustworthy? My first quote from the Jeep dealership recommended engine repair costs at more than $8,000 and that my car was now worthless except for scrap ($500). I didn't believe them. My Jeep was in great shape so I jumped into my car and drove to Troll Motors. Troll told me that I needed a few repairs for only $1,700. My Jeep is running great and Troll Motors lowered my engine repair cost, saved me my Jeep and the unnecessary cost to buy a new car! That's Trustworthy! read more

Best Saab repair in Washington as far as I'm concerned, and yes, I'm including ScanWest. I've taken my old C900 and my Viggen there and the work has been exellent. Thirty percent lower cost than Swedish Auto, 10% lower than ScanWest IIRC. So far, I've only had headgaskets done, no leaks in 15k miles. They close up for what I think was a couple weeks at the end of the year. Apparently they hold pretty loose schedules so plan your work thats to be done in advance if possible. Bonus: They rebuild racing bikes in the shop, check them out. Pretty awesome machines. read more

Troll Motors is run, it seems, totally seat-of-the-pants out of a garage/warehouse near Boeing Field, complete with hand-scrawled work orders and flexible shop hours. This is not necessarily a bad thing if you like a more organic, or even bohemian, car repair experience, but it's certainly one to be aware of if you've never dealt with them before. Call ahead, make an appointment, get an estimate on the length of repairs and make sure you have a back-up travel plan, because the loaner cars are not always available when they say they will be. (Don't ask how I know.) The work I had done on my 900 was good, but these guys missed some little details that made me feel they weren't giving my ride complete attention. Be sure to ask what parts they will use for your repair; it's important to know if you're getting new, rebuilt or recycled pieces for your hard earned dollar. Check to see if they offer a warranty for your particular repair before you decide. Regarding prices, I'm not sure why folks seem to think that they're cheap. On two different occasions, I've received a quote from Troll only to have it soundly trounced price-wise by both Scanwest and Moe's Automotive, although they were right in line with Swedish Automotive. The latest was a small repair for which I was quoted $300; Scanwest's quote was for nearly half that amount ($180) for the same repair, using the same parts. I guess the rent is Georgetown is creeping up. Speaking of Georgetown, if you live anywhere north of Queen Anne, this place is pretty inconvenient to get to, and to get back from if you don't have somebody to pick you up (see above re: loaner cars). If you're downtown, or in the south end, it's a much easier trek. Bottom line: you have several options in the greater Seattle area for keeping your Saab on the road. This is one of them, but certainly not the most professional outfit going. It pays to shop around. read more

They were able to beat the quoted price that ScanWest offered me and with equal quality of service. Furthermore, they provide a loaner car at no charge (besides the gas you use) for repairs that might take a few days. Besides price, my experiences at the dealer were a bit sterile and impersonal. I looked for a Euro-centric mechanic in a convenient location, and am very happy that I found Troll Motors. By going to Troll, you trade some polish and refinement in customer interface, and receive a staff that are passionate about cars, especially the quirky ones that they specialize in (Saab) and their more serious southern neighbors (BMW, Audi, etc.) who will take plenty of time to make sure you are as informed regarding the service as you would like to be, at fair prices. If you want to pay more so you can drink tea at the dealer, its up to you. I was referred to Troll motors for the first time, by a friend, four years ago, after being told adamantly by a reputable mechanic that I needed a new car/engine and that was that. My car is a 2006 Subaru Forester XT. Ian and Nate are amazing. The people who work for them are as well. They are passionate about what they do and actually use their experience and intelligence to figure out what is going on. They diagnosed the issue, Fixed it, and off I drove with the car I love! Since then they have replaced things as needed as I trust them completely. To top it all off, they became my true heroes after a dealership, three months ago, again told me I needed a new engine, this time for $8,500.00. I had my car towed to Troll and they dove in there to find out what was going on, refusing to give up! I walked out of with most of the expense being for their time put in. The guys here will make your SAAB work with a minimum of fuss, will explain everything they've done in detail, tell you if there are problem areas you should be looking at, what needs to worked on immediately and what can wait, and providing price quotes at every step of the way. I thought the price was reasonable for the service I received. One note - they seem to have what I'd call a "flexible schedule" in the shop, so it's good to call ahead of time and get your car in far before the weekend. read more

Troll Motors is the perfect place for Saab service. That's about all they do. And they do it with care and precision. I wish I'd known about them long before last year when I first took my car in. They have found spare(used) parts for me like an essentially new back seat for my 2005 which my dogs had soiled. The price for parts and service for installation was really fair. They also handled a body damage problem after I was rear ended this last summer. They got the work done and checked out the entire car, and handled the insurance folks as well. My 2001 Toyota Tacoma just blew a head gasket and I was saved by Troll Motors! Their main MO has traditionally been SAAB but don't let that stop you from coming in if your not a SAAB driver. They work on most vehicles and if you have something they don't do I'm sure they'd give you advice on where to go. My recent experience was for a significant amount of work so this can make one naturally a little uneasy. They talked me through the process, gave me a timeline that they kept/beat, and an upfront estimate that did not escalate which would be easy to have happen with such a large repair. They were very nice to work with and clearly take pride in doing honest high quality work. I've been taking my Honda Element to Troll for the last two years after being treated awful at the dealerships. They are reasonably priced and always get the job done quickly and accurately which is a huge deal for me. Never have to go back because of any leftover issues. I've been a Troll Motors customer for almost 13 years now. Starting with my beloved 1987 SPG and now with my 1999 9-5 wagon. I won't trust my SAABs with anyone else. Nate has never steered me wrong, always giving excellent, sensible advice on what needs to be done right now and what can wait till the next service. And he's just a swell guy. Case in point - this past freak snow/cold spell we had. I accidentally left the parking brake engaged on the 9-5, sitting out in that bitter cold for several days. Went to get the car warmed up (the day before Thanksgiving, as we were heading out to Spokane), released the brake lever but found that the left rear wheel would not budge. Figured it was a frozen caliper, but a quick call to Nate had me reaching into the wheel well, pulling on the brake cable and hearing a satisfying "pop" as the ice broke free. Never would have occurred to me to try that, but Nate's calm, expert advice came through. And we made it to Spokane safe and sound. If you have a SAAB, any SAAB from an old 93 2-stroke up to a 9-5 Aero, you owe it to yourself, and the car, to take it to Nate and his crew at Troll. And check out their cool t-shirts. read more

This is the place to take your VW. Ian is an expert. I bought a used VW, a 1999 Passat, this year with the rear passenger door firmly stuck in place. I was told it was not functional due to an electrical issue. I told Ian that it wasn't fixable -- but he fixed it! Other VW service shops weren't able to fix the problem. He also installed a window that was smashed, and afterwards he replaced a headlight and vacuumed out the interior (not only where the glass shards were, but around the other seats). It was an all-around great experience I had at Troll Motors. These guys are down to earth and honest. Plus, they have a killer magazine collection in the waiting room. They know everyone by name, their office is covered in thank you cards from people who, if they were all represented here, would max out the business ratings for this place in a second. Modestly tucked away in Georgetown, Nate and Ian have been doing great work for over 20 years, specifically helping Saab lovers like myself keep our babies purring happily. I had been meaning to go to Troll Motors for a while now. I have a 2007 Saab 93 and have had trouble finding a reliable, honest and reasonably priced shop to work on my car, since I moved to Seattle. Yesterday, my otherwise very reliable car just stopped running on I-5 during rush hour in the morning. While I was sitting on the side of the road waiting for the towing company I remember Troll Motors. I looked out my window and could actually see their blue building across Boeing field. I took it as a sign and had the tow truck take me there. I met the guys when I go there and they were both really nice. I was told that they would do a couple of tests and then let me know what was wrong. I called a friend to drive me home as all their loners were out and they were very apologetic about that. Before I even got home I received a call with an answer as to what was wrong. I was quoted a very reasonable price and told it would be done by the afternoon that day. AND IT WAS!!!! They even did a couple of extra things at no cost to me. I recommend these guys to anyone and am confident that I have found the place to take good care of my car.
