I thought our transmission was going out after hearing weird noises this week and experiencing some lagging on acceleration. I called King's and was told to bring it in within the hour so they could take a look at it. An hour after I dropped it off I had a phone call telling me to come back, they had identified the noise and it wasn't the transmission. When I got there, they showed me how the noise sounded like a belt issue and sent me to a mechanic in White Center. They didn't charge me anything for the diagnostic work. All I have to say is caveat emptor. Make sure you are absolutely clear about the work you want done, how much your willing to spend, and make sure you get your parts back. Also! If at all possible, make sure you can buy your own parts. I'd never go back there again, Mark can be a real jerk when he doesn't get his way. My advice, pay with a credit card...just in case they try to screw you. Maybe go to Superior Transmission, they might be better. I'd never go there again if they were the last shop on the planet. I'm only granting one star because it's the lowest I can go. Otherwise I wouldn't give them even one. Three out of five stars is the Ebay equivalent to a person you might think twice about doing business with. Three out of five stars is only 60% of happy customers. Considering how much you might have to pay do you really want to trust such a high-priced repair to a company that only had a 60% customer-satisfaction rating? Sounds pretty shaky to me and if I would have checked their track record I would have thought twice about taking my vehicle to King's. I'm sure they do good work is the repair is easy or is the car is a newer model, but if it's older they don't seem to care. If you do your research, go with your gut, I'm sure you'lltake your vehicle somewhere else. read more

These guys tried to scam my 22 year old daughter on a transmission flush. They quoted her $217 on Tuesday and when she brought it in on Friday they did not tell her the price went up to over $450. When I called them in the morning on Friday to tell them I would be picking it up and paying for it they did not tell me the new price either. I asked them if they could replace a head lamp in the front head light and they said yes. When they called me later in the day they said it was an additional $139 to replace the head lamp so luckily I declined that service. I did it myself for $19.80 in 5 minutes later in the day. They did tell us the new price was over $450 for the transmission flush. We replied that it was not our understanding that it would be over twice the quote. They said my daughter signed the estimate. She did not!! They claimed they cleaned the battery cable corrosion and charged us an additional $ 26.95 for that and an additional $7.53 for supplies (have no idea what that could have been) They did not do a good job of cleaning the contacts as when we opened the hood there was stil a bit of corosion on the contacts. This battery is only less than 6 months old which I informed him of earlier in the day. I did a much better job of it with a wire brush. So when my husband went into pay he basically told them he knew his options and rights and the price suddenly came down to $304.41. They were trying to tell him it was $247 for the tranmission flush and an addtional $139 for the new transmission fluid. This is complete deception and unethical. Who quotes any kind of fluid change without including the actual fluid!! They were just trying to take advantage of a 22 year old female!! Shame on them!! The joke was on them though as they obviously didn't realize her parents were going to pay for it and pick up the car. read more

I already knew I had differential noise and told them that. They bad mouthed my mechanic and non transmission specialist mechanics, in general. They told me to bring the car in by 2 pm and they would take the differential cover off and listen to it. I brought the car in at 2 pm a week later. They told me to bring the car back in in the morning before 9 AM because they need more time. So I did. After a few hours, they called and told me my differential is making noise. I told them I knew that already and reminded them I had told them that at least 3 times on the phone. I asked if they had diagnosed the source of the noise. They said No and that taking it apart would be a waste of time. They offered swapping out the differential for a quality, used differential that was 2 times as expensive as my mechanic had offered. I took my 2006 Subaru in to Kings to have the transmission fluid flushed. I noticed the fluid was very low and the shifting was uneven. I thought it would be a good time to get the fluid flushed. Kings informed me that the transmission need a complete rebuild at a cost of $3,500 - $4,500, but I was in luck because they were willing to buy the car from me for $500. Blue book on the car was about $4,000,so we weren't able to agree on a purchase price I took it to another shop and they fixed a seal where the transmission fluid was leaking ($410) and car worked fine. read more

Sent my really simple 4 speed AOD automatic to this shop to be COMPLETELY REBUILT because it had issues dropping down from second gear. Got the transmission back at the mechanics shop to reinstall and they did fix the initial gear issue BUT NOW I have problems shifting second to third. Mind you, this shop CONFIRMED that they tested the transmission prior to sending it back out. They gave the all clear to a "rebuilt" transmission to be reinstalled to my vehicle and it was still very tricky. Would not recommend these guys. read more

Mark was very helpful in rebuilding my transmission. I bought a 2002 BMW X5 and had to get the transmission rebuilt. I found paperwork in the glove compartment and immediately contacted Mark. He remembered working on the car previously and also noted the previous owner never came in for maintenance which could have been a factor of having the transmission getting rebuilt again. After having it rebuilt, it was working as if it were brand new! Shortly after, for some reason my car was leaking fuel and I immediately had it towed to Mark @ King's Transmission. Typically they don't work on these type of issues, but he remembered me and told me to go ahead and have it towed and he'd take a look. Not knowing the severity of the issue, I was worried paying a good chunk of money just to get our car back up and running. I received a call back from Mark and they figured out the issue and literally just charged me pennies to what I was expecting. On top of the other technician Mark showed me exactly what went wrong and also helped me out with fix the grill which was coming loose. Location I will mention that this place is a bit hard to see from the street despite its large sign that seems to blend in to its surroundings. But it is on a main road near downtown Seattle. Service Nice people, very friendly and gave me a free estimate for services. Ladies, be hesitant when providing your phone # to Mark (shop employee). I was instructed that the shop (Mark) will send me text updates while my vehicle was being repaired. What I received back via text updates, by Mark, was a very inappropriate non professional image. Nothing relating to my vehicle, but an image of a private body part of his. I attempted to report this violating experience to the Shop's owner and requested his info, but was told to come back in the following week to see him. I feel very uneasy going back to that shop, and was not able to obtain the owner's contact info from Mark, so I am left to leave my experience here. I've had to go in for a rear passenger axle repair, I've had to go back 3 damn times for them to reseal it, now that the warrantee is expired it's going to cost me to have it resealed again because it's leaking again on top of my 93 FORD Ranger XLT manual breaking down and having to get it towed to Yakima, I will never go back and I will never recommend you get any repairs done here when they can't even fix a MANUAL, I've paid over $1000 for a repair that was not done correctly and is leaving me paying for more repairs, I'm looking at over $3000 now to get it on the road again myself, I would give them negative stars if I could for the repair, their nice to you but clearly can't do even the easiest of repairs read more

I called Kings Transmission on 4th Ave S because my truck was "jolting". They had me come in the following morning, (which was really fast in my opinion) so they could diagnose the truck. Within 1 hour they figured the problem wasn't with the transmission but rather the engine. Brought my Lincoln in to have the transmission fluid replaced nothing major. Never had any transmission problems before this but now it's acting up real bad only a few weeks after taking it there. The first day it would switch into reverse and I had to keep switching it in and out of gears before it worked. I just took it as the fluid in the transmission warming up. A week later my car wouldn't switch into gear all of a sudden on the road and then completely shut off. Took me a day to bring it back to kings and with in an hour they told me it was my 3rd gear that had a problem and it would need to be fixed right away for 2500$. I have no doubt that this shop has ruined my transmission. Out of ignorance, malice or sheer incompetence something this shop has done has ruined my car that I keep maintenance up to date with. Only reason they get 2 stars from me is that their workers arnt jerks. Never the less I wish I had paid the extra 100$ to bring my car to a dealership. read more

Wish I would have seen earlier reviews first. We had an odd noise and took our van in. We were told it should be $975 to fix. After giving the ok we heard a day later it would actually need a rebuild for $4,000. We have another mechanic that is doing the work for almost half that. Kings held our van hostage for $960 in order to release it to the tow truck! Almost the cost of the initial estimate. Just to take apart the transmission and tell us what was actually wrong. This service should not be more that $500. Go somewhere else. You'll save money and support a better business. read more

Unfortunately, the transfer case was leaking after about a year and a half. They said bring it back in and they made the repairs without any issues and at no charge. No one is happy to need a new clutch, but Mark made this as simple and seamless an experience as I could have hoped for. He answered the phone right away and only took a couple of minutes to give me a quote, and made it clear that he understood the unusual flywheel in my A4. He promised a price and a done date and hit them both on the nose. He sent me a photo of my flywheel to confirm that it needed to be replaced, and he also let me know that I had two leaky engine mounts and gave me the option to take care of them as well. When I came to pick the car up, Mark saved all the parts to show me, and gave me some solid advice on how to avoid needing a clutch replaced early again. Originally I took my 4runner to Arrows Automotive because I was having some issues with drive and reverse engaging. They took a look at my transmission fluid levels and had me show them the symptoms within their parking lot. Afterwards deducing it's a trans issue, they recommended I talk to the guy's at King's Transmission across the street. Mark was able to check my car in right away so I could quickly head off to work. My 80 year old Mother-In-Law has a 1999 automatic Beetle, which I had taken to 2 VW dealers to have them adjust the shift linkage because it kept popping out of gear. Here is the truth. So I was broken down on I-5 Southbound about a 100 yards past the I-90 exit. I'm driving my Lexus LS 430 with 168,654 miles on it. Boom, it felt like my rear end fell off. I snuggled up to the guard rail with cars flying by I could hardly get out of the car. It was a very bad idea when I did and slid back on a break. I called my friendly AAA folks and because of my precarious situation they arrived immediately. He hooked me on a trailer and pulled me off to safety. Nice guy pulled over on a side street. I told him what had happened and assured me it was a transmission problem and many dollar signs appeared to my consciousness. I called Bob my trustworthy Tire Factory in owner and gave him the bad news "transmission"! Bob shared the only place he trusted was King's Transmission on Fourth South. I took a cab home and my car headed to Kings Transmission. About an hour later I was at home arranging for a rental car and I received a car from the owner. I braced for the worst possible outcome. My wife and I knew going in that a VW Eurovan could be expensive to fix if something major broke. It's true. Ten days ago I was driving in town (fortunately! -- I could have been in Canyonlands!) when the transmission exploded -- not the technical term -- and the car ground to a halt. I had it towed to University VW, where we have it serviced. They told me that it would be around $10,000 to replace the transmission, because they don't work on them. Since that is roughly what we paid for the car, I looked around. Most independent VW repair shops don't either, so, what to do? Turns out that many of them send their transmission work to King's Transmission on 4th Ave. South in Seattle. I went down to see them in person, because this wasn't an oil change I was pricing. I talked with Mark, the manager, and was impressed with his straightforward and competent manner. He told me some things about my transmission, and what my options were. Between that and what I had learned in my phone and internet research, I figured King's was my best bet. Mark had the van towed down, and kept it for about ten days. They pulled out the gearbox and opened it up. It was a mess. Things were broken. Parts had to be ordered. This morning I picked it up. It drives beautifully, better, I think, than ever, though it will take some more time on the road to say for sure. I am very happy, although our VISA card took a major hit. The total was more than the estimate, but I didn't take the estimate all that seriously to begin with, because you never know what you're going to find when you crack a busted transmission. My only very small gripe is that the mechanics working on and in the car had oily shoes (who could have guessed?) and got some grime on the carpet, which I will take off with some spray cleaner.
