I cannot emphasize this enough: do not take your car to this shop. Please do not be fooled by the Yelp/Google reviews or the polished website like I was. I'm guessing the shop was recently sold or they pay people to publish reviews for them, because I had an absolute trainwreck of an experience with this place. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this is one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a business. - They do not work with insurance, even if they claim to. - Took five weeks when they quoted me one. - Didn't call me ONCE in five weeks to update me about anything. - Stonewalled the insurance and didn't call them back. My car was vandalized the first week of May when someone drilled a hole into my gas tank, so I called around to five local shops for estimates. Scott Sherman was the cheapest, by about $200. So after I confirmed with Michael that they worked with insurance directly, and specifically State Farm, I arranged for a tow. I gave them the number for the insurance claims department and they quoted me one week to turn the car around. I let them know I needed to have it back before the end of May. I call in after a week and ask if the car is ready. They said they couldn't get ahold of my insurance after trying repeatedly so they'd call again. Naturally, didn't call to let me know. A few days go by and the insurance still hasn't heard from them, so I gave State Farm the shop's number to call directly. My insurance agent tells me that the shop won't call them back and only seems to pick up when they call from a different number. When I called, Michael said "oh you want to talk to the other guy but he's in the bathroom right now." Strange - he seems to have been in the bathroom every time I call. Two more weeks go by, and dozens of calls later, Scott Sherman hasn't even started working on the car nor have they filed any estimates with State Farm. At two points, the claims department called the shop to walk them through the B2B submission process. My agent confirmed that they didn't submit anything, despite telling the claims team they did. It's the end of May and Scott Sherman won't return my calls, work with the insurance, and still hasn't replaced my gas tank. At this stage, I'm worried they don't even have my car, so I stop by after work to ensure my car is really there. I go in to light a fire under them and they tell me their computer hasn't been working but they can get me the quote the insurance has been asking for. Interesting that they knew exactly what I would ask about before I even had the chance. Thankfully, my car is still there, but excuse after excuse and they say the car will be done by end of the week. We're well into June at this point, and I'm starting to look up legal options to prepare myself. My agent calls me and says they can either tow the car to another location (at my expense) or just pay up front and hope that insurance will pay based on the shop's estimate. They finally finished the car the second week in June and the insurance fully reimbursed me, not even three days after getting my car back. I understand being a mechanic near a big city must mean you deal with some difficult people but that's no excuse for the way these guys conducted themselves. Do NOT be tricked by their website, the reviews, or the prices they quote if you're looking to have your car repaired quickly and especially if you're hoping to involve insurance. I am lucky enough to live in walking distance to this great shop. I have been coming here for the whole four years that I've lived in Greenwood. The service is unbeatable. The humor from the staff is top notch ;) they do an amazing job and the prices are fair. They are great in communicating how the car is doing if you leave it there for the day. They never try to upsell you or tell you something is wrong with the car if it isn't. Plus the signs in their lobby are hysterical but seriously. Great spot. Highest of recommendations. read more

I had a diagnosis from two different shops that did not make sense with the symptoms, so I brought it here for a THIRD opinion, and sure enough, it was a simple problem that either of the previous people should have caught, but did not. I was charged the bare minimum of the diagnosis alone. After feeling jerked around for months, talking to someone like Tony who showed integrity with me and my transaction was both a relief and a reassurance. I live in West Seattle, but I'll still be willing to schlep my way up to Greenwood the next time I need auto work done to make sure I'm treated like a human being. Moreover, they can explain things in a way that you can understand in regards to the mechanics of the whole process both before and after the service. Not a good place at all they lied about fixing my car told me they need all this work to it !! After I got it back a few days later my car was still having more problems, but worse took it to a different shop. Come to find out they lied about the pieces that were wrong. Never fix the stuff correctly and has me pay for it!!!! They are very overpriced when you can go down the street and get the same work for half the price and actually get it done with someone who cares about working on your vehicle and guarantees everything they do would never go here. The people here do not care about you at all they lie and let people steal stuff off your car and then try to lie and tell you it's a different different piece that is broken but you know something is not right so you take it to a new shop and they tell you know it was the transfer case was no good and not the right one for your car which mine was perfectly fine when I dropped it off there worked and everything good until I got my car back from the shop worst place in the world never take your car there you take your car there. You will get overcharged and have to go back before you know I know multiple people that have had problems at this location !!!! read more

I went to Scott Sherman Auto for a third opinion after having been to my own dealership, another private mechanic and lacking confidence in either. When I spoke with Tony on the phone prior to my appointment I felt very trusting. He took time to talk to me, showed interest in my cars problem, asked questions, offered suggestions and in a way that gained my confidence. At my appointment it did take longer than expected as they were short handed that day. They completed a thorough diagnostic exam and even showed me pictures taken from a scope of the inside of the cylinder. Tony graciously did not charge me a dime because it had taken quit a bit longer than expected. WOW! I was sent home with suggestions and knowledge for my cars situation which was invaluable. I had not received that elsewhere. All of the mechanics were friendly which is everything and made the overall experience great. I will drive the distance again to have work done. read more

I needed an axle replaced for my Outback - they took care of this right away with no surprises. I was also told by a competitor that the tie rods needed to be replaced as well and had them examine this. They were suspicious and found nothing wrong with them. I wasn't charged for the inspection and they joked that the only bad news was that they weren't going to make any money off of this! Great team working here. Cannot recommend them enough. read more

Misleading quote and incompetence: avoid this company at all costs! Misleading Quote: When I spoke with Scott Sherman Auto Care over the phone they quoted me $700 for the service, replacing some brake lines, and some other minor work. I thought that was reasonable and requested a paper quote be printed up. I was very surprised when they called me that evening and said that the work was done and that the bill was just under $1000. I asked to see the quote from that morning and they started getting shifty, eventually transferring me to the owner of the company. He told me the only way I was getting my car was to pay the new full price so I acquiesced. Incompetence: Because of the poor service I didn't trust these guys had done the job they said so I took the car to a different mechanic to get it checked. They had done the work they said they did, however, during Scott Sherman's inspection they had signed off as 100% fine on several items which needed attention. The worst thing they missed was a slow leak of transmission fluid which if uncaught could have led to transmission failure. This issue was plainly visible when the car was lifted (I could see it at the other shop) so it's clear they never bothered to lift the car during the inspection. read more

I love the way the office manager, Jessie, treated me, you'd think I was a member of the Scott Sherman family. She kept in contact with me everyday my car was in the shop, since I had a multitude of various work done and it took a couple of days considering parts were ordered. The two mechanics on duty were great too, both stopped whatever work they were doing when I first arrived to make certain they'd understand all my issues and problems involved with my car. I felt they charged me accordingly and appropriately, no hidden costs or surprises. When I mentioned I was a AAA client, I got a discount without hesitation. Honest, no nonsense and genuine people. They valued my time. Didn't try to sell me any work with "car language" I can't decipher and didn't make me feel ignorant about any questions I had. They fixed the problem without drama or thinly veiled threats about how "they wouldn't drive away in that car, but hey, if you want to, it's your life." I'm being facetious, but you have no idea how difficult it is for a middle aged woman to find a car repair place that doesn't rip you off or treat you like a barbie doll without a brain. I just found my car repair place, and I will drive the two hours to Seattle from Port Townsend just to get the work done on my VW Bug. It's worth that much to me to be treated like a human, and further more? The manager, Mike ... awesome guy. Laid back, family man, understands the stress and cost regarding repair from the customers perspective, and very authentic about what he felt I should do -- as opposed to "OMIGOSH! FIX ALL THIS NOW OR ELSE!" Seriously. They rock. And their tow truck driver, Rolly, was super awesome too. No. They didn't pay me to write this and I don't know them. But I will see them often -- my car is a wreck. I have total faith they will turn it back into a sweet little slug bug that isn't a death trap. They said they could. And (one more time) they didn't make me feel as though I should ask my priest for forgiveness for not taking a home equity line of credit to get all the recommended work done that day. Jeremy Barrie (owner), I direct this review to first, "Unappreciative"! Remember, 7 year loyal customer!!!! Not once in 23 days did I ever get an apology or even another excuse with an apology from the owner, Jeremy Barrie! "Disrespectful"! I am in my senior years. Makes me wonder if Mr. Barrie would treat his own mother the way he treated me, or even allow his own mother to go through what I experienced with Mr. Barrie. Absolutely no respect, no appreciation!!!! All I received from Mr. Barrie was an uppity, attitude and slamming down a check on the counter to pay for 2 days of a rental car after 23 days!!! "Honesty" Perhaps Jeremy thought I was just a dumb ole brad!? I keep all my work order records, documentation and know my truck!!!! I cannot believe how many stories I heard from Mr. Barrie and his mechanic's. After research I took my truck to a REAL auto care shop. Not mentioning to them who did the work I received a call from the new Auto Care shop that the over 5630.05 Scott Sherman has received from me, the work Scott Sherman did was the most atrocious workmanship they have EVER seen!!!! EVER!!!!!!!! Wire's dangling that were not put back, silicone used to seal leaks-gaskets instead of replacing properly. 3 days after getting my truck back and washing, Scott Sherman either damaged the rubber protective guard under my front wheel well that protects the engine from rocks-dirt and slapped only half of it back, not telling me, nor replacing it properly. My 2nd review of Scott Sherman will come soon after all has been documented, and I will file another compliant with the BBB. UNBELIEVABLE is all I can say!!!!!! Folks-neighbor's do yourself a favor as I would NEVER want to see anyone else go through or be treated the way I was!!!! They ended up charging me more than what they quoted me over the phone. Be sure to ask them for a printout of the cost they give you/invoice before giving them the final approval.
