Wow. Best ever. Leaking tranny fluid everywhere. Day before Thanksgiving @ 4pm. Close at 5. Was recommended to come and drove in. Immediately put on lift, found problem and fixed it. Ended up being coolant lines the dealer neglected to replace. So in the end, I get to drive and spend holiday with family thanks to Andy's. An HONEST mechanic shop. 2 stars only because they are typically available to book so it's good for emergencies. The person working was nice, but doors were locked at opening time until I knocked. Also very little security between aurora//bus stop and the shop so it felt somewhat unsafe. But rumor has it that this is Andy's son and that he does business differently. I went for a basic repair and as a young woman felt like he took advantage of me and made me feel like the repairs were urgent for my safety, so I got them. I went to Matt's auto repair down the street my next time and didn't tell them the context, but just the repair history and how I was told it was urgent and they were surprised because none of the fixes were urgent to my safety. read more

So after reading the other reviews, I decided to leave my own review . I had my car fixed by Danny (the old owner, Andy, is no longer alive). Danny found the issue with my car to be a bad alternator, when I asked for an estimate, he stated it would be around $750. I agreed and he was supposed to start working on my car. It was over a week and I decided to call and check the status of my car (I rarely drive since I live in the city). He told me that he hasn't started working on it, but he will soon and he would give me a call. Almost another week later, I call again to check on the status of my car, apparently he had the battery unhooked but still hasn't started replacing my alternator. I have an IIG, and I told him it could be a problem as I may get a lockout on my vehicle. Thankfully he started working on it after I told him that. He calls 2 days later and said he was finished, then he stated that he also replaced two other belts (an ac belt and something else). He stated that they are hard to reach and it was convenient since he was replacing the alternator. My car is an old 2003 Infiniti, and not worth over $3.5k total. All in all, the job was completed and he charged me $1,450. He got the job completed but charged for extra work that I never asked for or never agreed on before hand. read more

Of course, I didn't know what that meant, so I called Andy's and asked them if they knew what it entailed and he got right back to me. Now normally I wouldn't be able to tell when a service was done. Terrible. This shop is no longer run by Andy- he was a genius mechanic and an honorable businessman but he died a year ago. It is now owned and run by his son Danny, the sort of fellow who gives mechanics a bad name. He did $400 worth of work we neither discussed nor had I approved, and which had absolutely nothing to do with the original repair, then expected me to pay for it! To add insult to injury, my car now has three new problems it didn't have when I took it in (including, most alarmingly, a high pitched whine coming from the engine at speeds above idle) and I don't even have confidence that Danny actually did the work I paid him to do (a timing belt replacement). Now I have to go to a different shop and pay yet more money to find out a) whether he actually did the work he was supposed to do, and b) whether they can fix the three new problems that Danny created. (The car rattles and shakes at idle, whines at speed and has an erratic coolant temperature. Oh, and the engine smells like burning rubber. Make that four problems.) My neighbor found out that I had been there and said "Once Dan has your car, he is a master of finding ways to jack up the cost. Then he has your car hostage." That certainly was my experience- and, I see, that of other, post- Andy reviews, and I will certainly never go back. I HIGHLY recommend you find a different repair shop. Or buy a bike. Take up walking. Anything to avoid going to "Andy's", now "Danny's," AKA "The shop that used to be great." read more

Note: This place is no longer run by Andy but by his scamming son. All these reviews are OLD and I'm sure once held validity. Now it's an absolute con job. I asked for a tune up and he quoted me $600 and that it would be done end of day. No word from him for a day or so so I call and he keeps making up excuses why it isn't done. Finally after 3 days says it's ready and he wants to charge me $1400. That's nearly double what my car is even worth. I asked what he did and he claims he cleaned my filter, replaced my gas cap and gave me new spark plugs. Absolute hack this man is. Proceeds to scream at me and threaten to keep my car. I have him go over everything on the receipt, which was a handwritten scribble of notes, and what they cost to which he made up all sorts of things. Eventually I said I'll pay $800 and get out of there. Later he texts me to apologize that he knew he treated me badly, still I don't care I will never go back again. Go to Family Auto instead. read more

From a Toyota Sienna van, to an older Subaru wagon, to an even older Mazda pickup, and now our Toyota RAV4, Andy and his son Danny always took great care of us and our cars. It was a trial of three. For a while there, I thought I was trying to convert to Judaism and not get a tune-up for my car what with all of the rejection going on there. Andy, a kind-eyed man with an accent was helping me out in a way the modern world hardly recognizes these days. Driving downhill on some ice, I'd managed to pop my tire over by the lake. I limped along until I found Andy's shop next to the road. The bus people scattered as I pulled into his shop, which shares a space with the 358 bus stop at the corner of 80th and Aurora. Andy quickly dispatched someone to take a look at my tire and put on the donut. While I was inside, we discussed life and problems, diets, family. I expected to pay at least $30 for this unexpected mishap, but Andy said, "No, $10 because my mechanic is a good mechanic and he charges by the hour. $10 and you go and find out about the warranty on your tires. If it's not a good deal, you go down the street a little way and they will give you a good used tire to get you through." When I came back the next week for my tune-up I'd scheduled, Andy was busy. "You have to come back later," he said, "You are not ready for a tune-up." Not ready? This wasn't an initiation rite, it was fixing my car. "How do you know you need a tune-up?" I'd never been asked this question before. I showed him a list from another mechanic shop, as well as letting him know my maintenance light has been on for a while. "No, no, no, you can leave the light on. Look, I have a daughter your age. I'm going to give you some advice." With that, he sent me on my way to the emissions check places, which will read your computer for $80 less than a mechanic will. "Bring that report back. Then I fix your car. I want to know what your car says, not other people." Good man. A little confusing, but definitely one-of-a-kind. read more

I just got a used car last week, and the engine light came on -- I brought it in to get it checked today, and after a thorough diagnostic, they replaced spark plugs at an unbeatable price, I'm so grateful, because times are tough for me now. I also took my previous car in to them last year to get brakes fixed, and another time for an ignition/wiring problem, both times it was excellent service for an incredible rate. Okay. . I haven't actually gotten my car fixed here yet. But I will - for sure. I just called around to 4 Mechanics to get a cost estimate on a 90K service and Timing belt replacement. Andy's cost was reasonable, not the lowest, but he certainly won in personality. He asked me if I needed full service or just a tune up? I said I don't know, What's the difference? He says "well - come in, I'll tell you." Your car might not need everything on a 90K service. I told him I need to save up for my service and timing belt and was calling around to get prices so I know how much to save. He says "Ok, come in anytime, I'll tell you what you need. For now, make sure your oil is changed and your coolant is good - it's very important" the service can wait. I hung up the phone feeling like I had just spoken to a family member about my car. I am actually looking forward to meeting Andy and getting my car repaired there. read more

I always hear about folks who have been going to the same mechanic for years and years. I assume these people will never be me. Something always happens to make me want to run away screaming or commit a mortal sin whenever I leave my car with a oil-stained stranger. Andy's Auto Repair, though, has potential. So far I've only visited twice in two years. They're a little pricey for the simple things like oil changes, but when I needed real work done they came through. They were able to triage the various oil leaks, squeaks, and shimmies into a two year maintenance and repair plan. They did all of this with a customer who doesn't know a tail pipe from a dip stick. (That's a joke people. It's funny. Go ahead, click the funny button. You know you want to.) So, all in all, I don't feel like I was ripped off and I don't feel like they ignored any problems with my Subaru. That's all I ever ask for in a mechanic. read more

I've been taking my trusty old 1997 Subaru Legacy to Andy since I bought the car a year and a half ago. He is so kind, sweet, and honest - with everyone. This means a lot to someone who's been treated like a girl too many times at other shops. He'll gently recommend critical repairs but doesn't push on the nonessential stuff; instead, he just lets you know what he would like to fix next and why, and what to pay attention to (if you hear a clicking when you turn your wheel, it's time to bring the car in to have a look at the axles). And, he doesn't overcharge. I always leave his shop feeling confident that my car has been in the most capable hands in the city, and the car itself seems to be happier after a visit to Andy. He and his son run the shop, and his wife is often there to help out as well. A true family business, and what a lovely family it is. I can't say enough good stuff about Andy, his family, and his business. I love, love, LOVE them. read more

When I moved to Seattle for college, and my 84 Subaru broke down, I tried to take it to a Sub only repair shop in Lake City on the recommendation of a friend. They wouldn't work on my car because it was too old, but the suggested Andy. I have been going there ever since. First you should know that Andy' manner is very to the point, he would rather talk to his customers in person than on the phone and he might lack some of the fake smiles and 'customer is always right' attitude that some people come to expect. But, he is honest, kind and fair in addition to being a very good mechanic. He doesn't push extra work on you that you don't need, and if it isn't fixed on the first try he will do what he can to make it right and fair. Once, my car was having a mystery problem that took a few tries to get to the bottom of, by the third (final) try there was a deep discount. I have had my share of mechanic nightmares when I get to the shop, and they say the diagnostic was $150 and they haven't even done anything. On the contrary Andy's prices are very reasonable, the service is very fast. What's more if you become a regular customer, he will help to figure out what is the best choice for you and your car. Like, do you really need this repair today, or should you wait until you have a little more money? Really, when is the last time your mechanic did that for you? read more

I took my car there cuz my engine check light and tire pressure light were on. They were super nice and attentive that they noticed more problems for me and got them all fixed in a day. They even let me know what is not urgent but I might need to get it fixed next time. It was a great experience! All of my warning lights were gone and I feel more safe driving my car now. Not sure about the pricing (I'm no expert in cars) but I heard their pricing was fair so I trust them. Hopefully the lights won't go on again anytime soon! read more

I don't know much about cars and I've only owned 1 in my life. When I bring the car to Andy, he is very clear about what needs to be done and what does not. Never in the 7 years I've been bringing him my Subaru has he pressured me into a service I didn't feel was needed. Andy understands that a 20 year old vehicle will not last forever and should not have tons of money poured into it. That said, with Andy as my mechanic this car might last another 10 years. Andy and his family (wife and son all work there) are super friendly and genuine. I wish his shop was closer to my house, but at least it is right on a bus line. read more

I have had too many bad car repair experiences to count (really it shouldn't take 4 separate tries to get brake rotors smooth! 2 maybe....), and ended up at Andy's with little optimism. Well, in the 10+ years that I have had my Subarus he has taken really great care of me. I believe he has everything a great mechanic needs: 1. a Great work ethic 2. fair and reasonable prices 3. the desire to actually fix the problem 4. a moderate attitude toward repairs that are needed (no nickel-and-diming) 5. Fast service In short, I totally trust him. He did seem a little gruff at first, and kind of hard to read, but he is easy to get to know if you take the time to ask him questions- he has really great stories about his life. Once you know him on a more personal level he will smile widely with recognition when you come to him. He also loves dogs and animals and will take great joy in hearing about your dog if you have one. Bring in a photo- it will make his day. If you are one of these people that demands and is surly, you probably won't get to far with Andy's good graces. He takes no bull. In terms of another review I read elsewhere about a problem with brakes, what I would ask if if they brought the car back to Andy. It is my opinion that things can go wrong sometimes, even after they are fixed. It is the shop owners response to such outcome that is a really good indication of what kind of business they are running. If they didn't bring the car back in I would say shame on them. Andy would have done everything he could have to fix the problem had he known, not for fear of repercussion, but because it would have been the right thing to do. That is his MO. read more

I brought my small Japanese truck in for a diagnostic test. I had been to a few other places who told me that they didn't have the correct adapter to connect to the ECU. Right away Andy began telling me that the year of the truck was odd and no parts could be found for it. Andy's son, Dan, began researching how he could help me while Andy just insisted that nothing could be done for my truck. Dan began looking at my car to see if they'd even be able to help me, or if not he'd was going to send me on my way. Dan pulled the ECU open and began to investigate. In the process he brought the truck into the garage bay. When he did this Andy became very angry at his son and they started arguing about my truck right in front of me. Andy insisted that there was other work to be done first. Dan just wanted to be sure if it was worth me even leaving my car with them. Now that Andy was angry with his son about my truck he became incredibly angry at me. Andy began telling me how bad my vehicle was, calling it a lemon and insisting I made a mistake in buying it. Then he informed me that we would only be able to begin work on it eight days later. Already feeling uncomfortable for being in the middle of a family dispute, for feeling insulted about being told my car was a "lemon," and for being spoken to like and idiot and a child, I decided to take my car somewhere else. I informed Andy that I was taking my business elsewhere. Just as I turned to go speak to Dan and thank him for his investigation of my vehicle Andy yelled at me. I turned around and he went off on a tirade about how I owe him money and he's the ONLY person who knows how to fix my truck, and I have no other choice but to have him do the work. I explained to him that I was going to speak with Dan about payment because Dan was just simply a nice person and "you, Andy, are not a nice guy." He said he "spotted" me when I walked in the door, that I was going to "cheat" him. I tried to explain my position and perspective as a customer but he continued to interrupt me. I thought of giving him the consideration to fully resolve the argument but when he kept interrupting me I decided to leave. At the conclusion of the interaction he shouted, "Shut up and get out!" I understand the benefit of a mechanic being honest. You can tell me my car is a lemon and I will accept that. But when you haven't even glanced at the vehicle and you just want to insult me because of the way I am dressed, then I don't think that I should give you the consideration of payment for your time when my truck and I were being degraded and insulted the entire time. This was the most horrible customer service experience I've ever had, beyond even in an auto repair shop. Andy of Andy's Auto Repair is an angry old man who has no clue about customer service. Even the other customer's walking out while I was waiting were rolling their eyes at his attitude toward them. Having 35+ years of experience isn't the only thing a customer is looking for. Hi, I wouldn't normally think to write a review about a auto repair shop, but hey if you own a car you need to get it fixed, right???... I guess this is debatable, but back to the point! This is a good place to go for your auto repair experience. It's good for me too because not only is it walking distance from my house (very convenient when the car breaks down & I have to "limp" it to a repair shop.. what's even better is its DOWNHILL from my house), but more important for you, dear reader, is that Andy is a fair, honest and good mechanic. The most important factor is his honesty. He will tell you what the problem is, give you options and not try to sell you fixes you don't need (e.g. he didn't try to push new rotors on me when suggesting new front brakes). Also he is a man of his word & work - when the radiator he installed in my car broke 14 months after he installed it, he replaced it at a deep discount... not free but a good deal. His character is a bit "matter of fact" which can be unsettling in this land of timid smiles & weak handshakes, however that's easy to get over. Drive on baby!! read more

We have been taking our ancient (1982, 1993) Subaru's to Andys for many many years and have no complaints. He and his mechanics are very competent and professional and HONEST and will not try to talk you into anything you really do not need. If a fix is going to be costly, will suggest things to do in the meantime until you can afford it or until it is absolutely necessary. He has often made minor adjustments and repairs for no charge at all. If you can, try to become a regular customer of these folks--you will NOT be sorry. Gone way down hill! Was yelled at when trying to make an appointment, got 3 words out of my mouth ("Hi, I'd like to schedule an appointment.") Then after giving them the make and model of my car, was told that they couldn't help at all. Have taken my car here before with no problems, fairly happy. I have lost trust in auto repair places through the years but my faith is restored by Andy's Auto Repair. I took my car in because I thought there was an electrical problem that was shorting a fuse and killing my main engine fan. When we told Andy, he said "electrical repair, very expensive and I don't think that I can help you. I will come out and look." He brought out a tester and after 15 minutes of poking around and peering, he told us what the problem was - an easy fix. My husband asked him how much we owed and he said, "Nothing. It's okay." Then he walked off into the sunset. I will definitely take my cars there from now on. He is amazing and to the point but not out to take his customers. read more

I had my car in here because it was making a REALLY loud growling noise. Andy insisted it wasn't making any noise, then told me my shocks were bad, so I had my shocks done there, despite not feeling any problems. Big mistake. I got the car back and they were bouncy, but I trusted these guys to do good work. Recently I got a second opinion and discovered they had failed, and, based on how the car rode, were probably never good to begin with. I will not return here after getting ripped off like that. Got them redone at Les Schwab for $100 less than I spent at Andy's and now they have a lifetime guarantee. read more

Competent, honest, knowledgeable, friendly, affordable, and efficient. What else could you possibly want in a mechanic?? Wow! I mean Wow!! How often do you say to yourself: "I can't wait to get home to rate, review and rave about an auto repair shop?" First of all, Andy's is not your spotless, shinny, fancy espresso machine and eat an over-prized and over dressed cupcake while you wait type of shop. It is your basic oily, dirty grungy auto repair shop with no smoke and mirrors to divert your attention from the actual work that is taking place on your car. I went Andy to get a routine break job done on my car. I had both the front and rear brakes replaced. A day or two later I noticed that my steering wheel would vibrate and shake wildly if I applied the brakes while I was traveling above 40 mph. I was told by a friend that the breaks needed to settle and that after a while the vibrating would stop. Well, it didn't stop. It actually got worst. My friend was wrong, but I don't blame him. He's a lawyer and although he knows very little about the intricacies of a car he can be very convincing. I only blame myself for falling for his B.S. again!!! So, I called Andy and told him what was going on with my car. Andy asked me to bring the car in and said that he would most likely have to replace the rotors as they had probably warped and were cause the car to shake and shimmy. He assured me that he would not charge me for labor and that I would only have to pay for parts. He said that he would replace both rotors and that the total for both rotors would be around $98. I dropped my car off and about two hours later Andy called to tell me that the car was ready. He also told me that he had quoted me the wrong price for the rotors. The cost for EACH rotor was $98 and not the $44 that he had originally quoted me. Before I was able to open my mouth to tell him that it was ok and that I was grateful that he did not charge me for labor, he told me that he would only charge me for one rotor since it was his mistake. He even went so far to apologize for giving me the wrong price. I could not believe my ears as I was ready to pay him for both rotors. Needless to say, I am no longer driving down the road doing the hippy-hippy shake when I apply the brakes. I am extremely happy with the service and will certainly go to Andy for all of my car repair needs. read more

I have taken mine and my moms car there for years. Last time few times my mother has gone I was surprised at how high the bill was. I sat down and went through ALL of her receipts over the past 3 years and they were definitely doing unnecessary work. Like replacing the spark plugs every year?
