Three years ago, I had an American Standard unit installed to replace an old unit. One Friday in September, it started clanking and shaking the house. The blower wheel came apart, and the blower motor went out. As this was clearly under warranty, the outcome was expected: the warranty would cover parts, and I would pay for labor. The technician promptly showed up and disassembled within 20 minutes. The diagnosis was straightforward, as the damage was visible. The price for labor? $1150. Went to Yelp for bids, and they all (7 in total) came in in the range of $275-$600. I went with a company right in the middle ($450) as their communication and availability inspired the most confidence. Several other reviews here will corroborate that warranty work is not a strong suit. I cannot give one star as the installation three years ago went really smoothly, and the technicians they have sent out are punctual, competent, and friendly. To their credit, they drove back the same day to drop off the damaged parts so I could have the work done by someone else. I was charged the $99 diag fee - which is fair as nobody should work for free. This wasn't very reassuring, as we make a conscious effort to support local, minority-owned businesses.

In contrast to what the service tech said, they called me (LATE) the next day, and said it'd take a week to get the part. I wish I had gone with someone else rather than pay $150 for nothing.

It's hard to find home maintenance companies that are as reliable as family, but Garner is one of the good ones. We're lucky to have them in this area. We purchased a $25k American Standard system plus a $6k mini split for my garage from Elite for our new construction home. After moving in January 2025, we came home to a non functioning system after a trip in May. We had an emergency call and Frank came out and fixed the system. Clogged drain line, which after 5 months of use is apparently a maintenance issue according to them and I got to pay $447 for their services. Asked about their maintenance program, no response from anyone. System goes out 3 days later. Now it's a sensor issue, so the tech bypasses the sensor and calls it good. No charge, but also no refund for the previous service and no response on getting on a maintenance plan. Two weeks later, system goes out again it's a breaker issue. After getting that fixed on my own the system worked fine for the last year. September 2025, I found water in my garage and my mini split was leaking through the wall. One of the pvc elbows wasn't glued properly on the drain line. Elite fixed it free of charge. June 2026 my main system suffered two major failures. Leaking coil and compressor failure. Elite confirmed this, but decided, I still got to pay the $289 off hours call, while I waited around on Father's Day for them. Because I'm now out of my 1 year labor warranty, I was offered "a deal" on the service while the parts were covered under warranty. This is the point where I just decided that I could no longer work with this company and I was really out the price of a Honda Civic, minus the reliability. After telling them that wasn't good enough, their service manager Tim tried to make it right, offered to replace the parts and labor for free. If this had been the first issue, I would have taken him up on it, but I'm at a point of zero confidence in this company. Maybe I had bad luck or bad installers initially, but I decided to take care of my family and have a new unit from a different company installed. Despite what the jingle on the hold line says, which I'm very familiar with, Elite Air Conditioning and Plumbing does not care.

I was a massive fan of Cool Kings Heating & Air when they installed my new heater/AC years ago. The…read morelast two service calls have been concerning, and they have lost me as a customer. Cool Kings Heating & Air expects a check that day, yet the customer must call and email to obtain a receipt after the check is cashed. I trusted this company that I would be fairly charged. It never occurred to ask them about the pricing before the work. Or, I have to get in writing something I paid up front for a year of service. I understand that all small businesses are struggling with the economy; however, Cool Kings Heating & Air's approach will only lose repeat customers. Scenario 1: I am still waiting to receive an accurate receipt from October when they charged me up front for having my AC checked when summer hits, as I had called them to check my heater before it got cold this year. So, for their "maintenance plan," I still do not have it in writing. I am willing to take the financial hit in hiring another company to post this review. An ethical company provides an invoice/written agreement after checking the heater when they charge you also to also check the AC IN THE FUTURE the summer. Or, they just charge you for checking the heater [and since Cool Kings knows everyone is struggling because they continually cite the economy certainly this would be more aligned with what their customers are enduring.] Worst case scenario, an ethical small business would itemize future work that has already been paid for so that the customer has it in writing they have paid upfront. Cool Kings refuses to send me a receipt for that future work. And it took me three months to receive the inaccurate receipt forcing me to pay for both checking my heater this October and some future scenario to check the AC in the Summer. Scenario 2: I have a clear posting on my front door that surveillance cameras are around the property. Cool Kings service call caught on camera urinating in my front yard. This after they returned from making a run, indeed they could have stopped somewhere to take care of their 'business'. Price gouging and gaslighting are shocking. They advised me I would get a receipt before they cashed my ONE check. [They have it itemized as two checks.] This did not happen. I finally received my receipt, and after writing a check for 15 minutes of work, a new filter housing and filters, it was not for $650.00 but for $450. I politely called this to their attention and asked for a refund. They already knew I thought $650.00 was exceptionally high and had ended that conversation last week politely, electing to take the high ground and not write a negative review. I even told them that. They told me the invoice was for another customer. [which is odd since I have such an unusual air filter size]. This begs the question of why this company charges different labor rates? $245 vs $189 an hour. They said it was for a thermostat. Odd, this work took them all off 15 minutes, if that. And they did not offer me a repeat customer discount per the first invoice [$78.99]. I purchased a brand new system from them years ago. I have included copies of both invoices for the public to review. There are not two hours of work. I had called repeatedly and sent numerous emails after they checked my heater in October for this filter replacement situation. The owner tried to gaslight me that he had been by my house and yet had no answer as to why I was never given a phone call or a text if this was indeed the case because I knew this was a falsehood and would have had that on my surveillance cameras. I am home all day, don't miss much, neither do my neighbors. After months of trying to schedule an appointment and many failed no-shows, I had to reschedule out of self-preservation for an important client. Can you blame me? Bottom line: in October, they had the measurements for the filter housing and THE original, and the owner tried to say he had a new one that had gotten bent, and it was my fault. So, why did they show up, leave, get the filters and housing, allegedly special orders, and charge me for all that time when they could have shown up with the needed materials, just like all the other professional contractors do? Cool Kings should have arrived with the part in hand since we proactively provided them with the original part and they had the dimensions in October. Due to poor preparation, I was charged two hours for 15 minutes of work. If you have been a customer of Cool Kings in the past, believe me, they have changed. Go through my profile. I always write good reviews. However, the public has a right to know these guys do not respect their long-time customers. They will tell falsehoods on the phone and attempt to gaslight you. For a company with such anger of the current economy that EVERYONE is feeling, taking out on caring customers is a puzzling business model.

I had called another highly ranked Yelp Trane business and their salesman tried to snow me with a…read moreridiculously expensive quote (initially over $20,000) for a new Trane Heat Pump System for my 1,400 sq ft house, and who didn't listen regarding my issues with NOT getting cool AC into my bedroom and didn't tell me why my 8 yr old Trane failed. Luckily, I had requested an appointment with another Trane HVAC business, and that was Summit AC and Heating out of Buda, TX, who were highly reviewed on Google and Yelp. Rich with Summit AC and Heating listened to my two issues -- namely the lack of cool air going into my bedrooms, and Austin Energy having a power outage -- causing a power surge to destroy my coils in my heat pump and assured me that my new Trane heat pump wouldn't suffer another power surge ever again. He came up with a heat pump package, partial duct work replacement, the replacement of three moldy plenums in that attic, and adding two new surge protectors that met my needs and price point. And of course I am not happy that all new HVAC systems now cost more than double than what I paid in 2018, but this isn't just a Trane issue but with ALL HVAC BRANDS that has happened since the pandemic. (FYI, I got six quotes from Trane, Carrier, Bryant and Lennox heatpump dealers in the Austin area before settling on a Trane heatpump system and Summit AC and Heating). As for the install, Summit blew my socks off with their thoroughness and professionalism. The previous installer in 2018 left a mess in my garage crawl space and ignored a collapsed ductwork. The two Summit heat pump installers replaced two of my undersized ducts, replaced three new plenums boxes, added two new surge protectors (one to the air handler in the attic and to compressor outside), vacuumed up all the debris, garbage and nails left by other people who had worked in the crawl space over the years. The two new larger ducts they installed now give me cool airflow into all my bedrooms and the two surge protectors will ensure that an Austin Energy power outage, power surge or lightning strike will never blow out my heat pump coils ever again. I also bought a 10 year labor warranty to cover any high value repairs, which doomed my previous 8 yr old Trane, which was supposed to last 12 to 15 years. All in all, I highly recommend Summit AC and Heating, who were a pleasure to work with, especially now that my house is cool EVERYWHERE.

Morning of the appointment I don't hear or see anyone so I call. They tell me "we'll be there by noon, there are two calls ahead of you". I told them my appointment was scheduled almost a month ago, so I'm not sure how two people for ahead of me. They agreed to swap stuff around and came to my house on a Friday. They showed up not ready to do anything. They saw my setup (furnaces in the attic) and said "oh we don't have a ladder to get up there. Do you?". After they walked around they asked if they could come back on Monday instead when "their guy with the right equipment could come". I asked when, they said between 10-10:30, so I agreed. 11am the day of the appointment and no one showed and I never got a call or anything to let me know they were running late, so I called to see what was up. "We're behind because of some calls we got over the weekend". Again, my appointment was booked weeks ago and this was already a rescheduled appointment so not sure how people kept jumping ahead of me. At this point I just asked them to not bother and I would find someone else. I get things happen and people get behind, but some communication would have been nice.
