What a surprise! This is an excellent and different coffee and snack spot, and it's location is in a cyclists' heaven at the south end of San Diego Bay. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and the cold brew coffee drinks are ready in a jiffy. It is all zero sugar and they seem to encourage non-dairy. Good selection of keto treats including donuts and bagels. Will definitely make this a regular stop. read more

Very fun, unique coffee shop! We did a "flight" tasting several different coffees, and all came out with different favorites -- a sign that they were all quality brews with unique characteristics. For starters, I have to give credit where credit is due for how I stumbled across my favorite coffee spot. Shout out to Protector Brewery for bringing them out to their anniversary party last fall. Alright, this place is a dream spot for those who enjoy cold brew and nitro cold brew. They have a plethora of different blends all on tap! Not to mention, they have unique creations with some of their drinks through adding MCT Oil and Ashwaghanda to their coffee. My favorite blend is their Weather the Storm which has an India Monsoon Malabar roast with Hemp Milk, MCT Oil, and Ashwaghanda. Another great thing about this place is how they are just like a brewery. They offer flights to try their different variations if you are struggling to make a decision and they have cans to go so you can create your own mix and match 6 pack! This is great for those who don't live near Imperial Beach and can't get down to the shop on a regular basis! I don't normally go down to IB for coffee lol but my dads a cyclist and wanted to check out the new bike store that just opened next door. Trident's only been open for two weeks now so I guess they're both new! It's super clean and spacious inside although I think the interior design is still a work in progress. Me and my dad were chatting with the barista and he said they're still working out business hours and all that. Seems like they've got a pretty good location because the area gets a lot of cyclists riding by -- especially now with the new bike store. All the coffee is cold brew on tap. They even have tea! Their menu is conveniently color-coded according to roast -- 4 light, 4 medium, and 4 dark. I got the stoic bond which came with coconut milk, sooo good! The coffee is fine. Staffing needs work. The young lady who helped me had to drag herself away from a conversation with two men. I told her that I'd never been there and asked for help with the menu. She wasn't nice about it. She Explained something fast and said that are just like a brewery. (I don't drink beer so that wasn't much help) after I ordered and got my drink, she goes back to her conversation about her Jeep. I look for a lid to my drink but there aren't any at the self service counter so I go back and ask for one. She says they don't have lids for the size I ordered and goes back to her conversation. I tell her that I have to drive and need a lid. She doesn't respond. I ask to have my drink poured into a larger cup with a lid. With so many good coffee shops in SD why waste your time going somewhere with this kind of staff? read more

High expectations but big disillusionment A great space and a view of the bay and beyond that can't be beat, but what they had available was very limited. The only snacks were pre packaged in plastic and if you wanted cream they only had those little plastic creamers you find at Denny's. Excellent, well educated, and friendly coffee-tenders. They roast and prepare everything in-house at this local operation. I go for the AMBROTOS; nitro cold brew with MCT oil. If you're not sure what to get, I suggest doing a flight tasting. They also have 6-pack take always as well. This place is a cold brew lovers dream come true! They have a bunch of selections in the dark, medium, and light roast family. I had the medium roast with the coconut oil OMG so creamy. You will definitely find something you will like without feeling overwhelmed. I tend to like my drink on the sweeter side so they do have symple syrup you can add. The place is quaint, relaxed, and has a super chill view. The lady at the front desk is knowledgeable, kind, and super approachable- they don't rush you either. The only thing to be aware of is that they close at 2 PM so get there early. Parking is conviniently across from the business. Decent cold brew coffee. Been here about 3x. Customer service kind of sucks depending on who's working. Second time I came in, the only customers were me and another (really good looking) guy. The two female (baristas? Is that what you would call them for a coffee brewery?) were fawning all over him and ignored me. Mind you, this isn't a regular coffee shop were they grind, blend and make elaborate drinks. They grab a cup, pull a lever down and the coffee comes out. If you get a special, sure they add milk, some syrup, or you can get it hot. Then ring you up. But it should not have taken more than 5 mins for someone to acknowledge my presence. But coffee is good, the Island Hopper is thus far my favorite. read more

Trident coffee is the only place worth getting a cup of coffee in IB (and honestly, worth a trip from DT San Diego). It's a super cool space right off of the bike path with a few great spots to set up your computer and get some work done. Also, the coffee (duh!): They serve up delicious and innovative cold brew, on nitro so without the soul-searing sourness of your typical cold cup. They're an incredible group of guys who care deeply about excellence -- and it shows! I always go for the cold brew Ambrotos (MCT + Marine Collagen), sometimes grabbing a protein donut. Found this place on yelp and loved it!! The staff is really helpful and we were able to sample the cold brews they had on tap. I o my tried the light roasts but they were all very good. There's mainly indoor seating but it's close to the water so if you want to walk around or sit near the water you totally can. There's also restrooms for customers which was nice. I am giving this place 2 stars because the location is amazing. However, this is primarily a cold brew shop. I am an everyday latte drinker and I stopped by for a latte since I saw they had a vanilla and a caramel latte on their menu. I love trying new coffee shops so thought I would give it a go since I was in the area. I got a little nervous when I walked in and did not see an espresso machine, this should have been my warning sign. So bottom line, the "lattes" are warm cold brew with steamed milk (almond milk option available) with some sugar free syrup ( I could taste the weird aftertaste of a sugar free syrup even though i didn't ask for a sugar free option). Maybe change the latte name into something like a house special vanilla cold brew? So bottom line, place is super cute, amazing location, but only come here if your into cold brews. Otherwise, I would skip it. read more
