I'm always down for trying different coffee spots and finally had a chance to check this place out. They are located right off the 5 freeway in an industrial area away from the busy main streets. I wouldn't have ventured out this way if it wasn't for Yelp, since I don't normally come out this far south. This place was alright, nothing special. The menu was simple and there were a few summer items available. We ordered the Mexican mocha (made with Chocolate Ibarra- not abuelitas), and a coconut cream americano (which was like a cold brew and coconut foam). I thought it would be hot, so I was a little bummed. There were no pastries which was another let down. The drinks were okay and the prices were average. There was indoor seating available (3 tables/6 chairs) and plenty of parking available. They had merchandise (hats, shirts- size small only, cups, key chains, coasters, and coffee). Overall, it was an okay coffee spot.

A yummy coffee shop in a place you wouldn't think. I will admit the smell of them roasting their beans is what initially drew me in! The employees are always kind and helpful. The drinks are yummy and they have seasonal flavors too, yum!

Cortado

This small coffee roaster and shop makes some pretty good coffee. A very good cortado is what the young lady made for me. The cortado was quite robust and had a good depth of flavor. It was strong too. I wanted a pastry or something to munch on with my cortado, but unfortunately they had zero baked goods that day. Just my luck. They offer a very good amount of comfortable seating. There's a variety of roasted coffee available for retail. The employees were all very nice. Good coffee.

3/4 way full mediocre flat white

This is what I was served before drinking any. It felt kinda of light but I was in a rush and didn't look until in my car. While the customer service was decent the taste and lack of value for money was not. I was disappointed especially since I knew they were roasters also. The barista might have been in a hurry because after he served me he rushed off to someone at a table. This could've been a one off situation but unfortunately I am not the kind of person who goes back and spends my money to try again. Also they have a limited menu and unfortunately there were no food items if perhaps you are looking for that as well as coffee. I don't like to leave bad reviews but I also know people are not wanting to waste their money and time either so this is my experience.

I recently stopped by Heave Ho Coffee and honestly, it felt like stepping into a countryside coffee shop straight out of a movie scene. The whole place has this rustic, barn-style charm that makes it really stand out--super cozy and unique compared to your typical café. The latte was excellent. You can really taste the freshness of the beans, and that flavor stayed consistent all the way to the last sip of my cup--which is something you don't always get. It's clear they care about quality and roasting their coffee right. What made the visit even better was the experience. I had a great conversation with the shop manager, who was incredibly welcoming and genuine. We ended up talking about coffee and realized we share the same appreciation for it, which made the whole visit feel more personal. You can tell he's passionate and truly cares about customers. The location is also super convenient, right near Interstate 5, making it an easy stop whether you're passing through or heading somewhere nearby. If you're looking for freshly roasted beans for your home setup or even for your own coffee shop, this is definitely a place I'd recommend checking out.

I have arrived!

After reading the one-star reviews, I decided to call this place before I stopped by. Someone answered, hello? and I stated I was just checking if they were open before I drove up. The shop is in an industrial lot, and even though the GPS was on and the address clearly on the web page, I was eyeballing it to see if I could find it easily. Well, I drove around a few times, but you will find it if you spot the 2240 on the building. I walked up, and there were a few employees busy doing coffee bag lifting , roasting, order fulfilling and stuff. I was greeted right away, I didn't catch his name because I am bad at that. But he was really nice and patient as I looked over the menu. He mentioned that they came in second place in a local article for best coffee in Chula Vista. I asked, "Who was first?" Grindhouse? He said, "No! they beat them - it was Rambler Cafe that came in first." Hmmm, we were surprised at that one, but they are good too. He mentioned plans in the making for a shop with baked goods in Imperial Beach and Coronado. Best of luck to you! I love indie coffee shops. Today, I ordered the Vanilla Bean on ice with oat milk. It was $6, so I think the menu pricing is a bit outdated. The coffee was smooth and not too strong, not sickeningly sweet. I enjoyed it very much, and will try the other items when I'm in town.

Amazing coffee sourced from southern Mexico! 100% organic and 100% natural, can't beat it. Very aromatic and you can really taste the freshness and high quality of these coffee beans. Had the privilege of meeting Patrick, owner of Heave Ho, on the coffee tour and he's super friendly, knowledgeable, talented, and awesome! He gave me a little tour of his roaster too and his operation. Lots of hard work goes into a good cup of coffee! Check out his roaster/coffee shop and give Heave Ho some love. You won't be disappointed. He also helps roast and sell "Broken Rib Coffee" which 100% proceeds go to help Baja Bound, an organization that builds homes for working poor in Baja; Baja Education Initiative, an organization that raises scholarship money for kids to go to school; and Casa Alegra, an orphanage in Chiapas. Amazing coffee, amazing people, doing amazing work. Go support Heave Ho, try their coffee, share with loved ones, and gift loved ones and coffee lovers with delicious bags of coffee that is doing good in this world! Definitely will be back! Thanks for the great coffee and labor of love, Heave Ho!

Heave Ho is my go to roaster for fresh coffee beans. Unlike other places where they deceptively use "best by" date, Heave Ho includes the date that the beans were roasted instead which is a much better indicator to gauge freshness. Coffee beans are roasted on site, can't get any more fresh than that! Especially if you order a drink and enjoy in their nice seating area. Great customer service and extremely knowledgeable. Gave me some pointers on how to improve my espresso pulls at home and even pulled a shot for me so I could use it as a reference point.

You're also met with lots of crafts, such as stickers, postcards, candles, etc. There was a line when I came. Not particularly long, it went by pretty quick because I got distracted from all the goodies while standing in line. I ended up getting a El Jefe latte (brown sugar espresso) to start, and it was pretty good! Above average and was easy to drink, not too acidic. The brown sugar syrup was okay, I'd get something else the next time. Wait times were pretty long, but the chance to walk around and see pretty flowers, rocks, and plants make it not such a bad thing at all. There are a few tables, but there weren't enough for my party when I went in the late afternoon (5pm-ish) Plenty of parking, and cafe employees are extremely sweet and cheerful. They say green vibrant plants bring your high cortisol levels down. Would def recommend if you're in search of a new cafe. If you're coming from the airport, it's not too far and you can squeeze in a coffee/souvenir run!

I go to coffee shops in search of good studying locations. I enjoy a nice drink with a small breakfast or pastry. They only had two options for food. A plain bagel with cream cheese or a breakfast sandwich. The applewood bacon sandwich was really good. The spot itself was calm. However, the chairs were really uncomfortable. I would not recommend if you have wider hips. The booth tables had better seating options, but the tables were very low. I had to move locations because the outlet closest to the window did not work. Overall, the food was okay and the vibe was calm. One thing I would like to add is the customer service was fine however, the employees were really loud and obnoxious talking among themselves. Cussing repeatedly and talking about intimate life situations.

This past Sunday, I decided to head over for a morning walk and finally stopped in again. The shop is pretty small with limited seating, so it's not really a place to hang out. It seems more like a grab-and-go coffee spot. There aren't many great coffee shop options in this part of Coronado, so I can definitely see why it's popular with both locals and tourists. I arrived just before the morning rush, so I was able to order and get my drink almost immediately. The cashier was super friendly and welcoming, which made for a great first impression. I also really appreciated that they offer a military discount--it's always nice to see businesses supporting the military community. I ordered a medium cold brew with coconut cold foam and asked for very light ice. I was so happy they actually listened! So many coffee shops still fill the cup with ice even when you ask for light ice, and I hate watered-down coffee. This one was perfect. The coconut cold foam was absolutely delicious and added just the right amount of sweetness to complement the bold flavor of the cold brew without overpowering it. I also love that they serve organic coffee. I'll definitely have to remember to stop by more often whenever I'm in Coronado in the mornings. Next time, I need to try one of their donuts too!
