It's an okay bike shop tbh, but they only do an okay job at fixing bikes. I'm not even going to talk about costs yet. So the first thing is that one time I went there bc the rear shock on a specialized stump jumper was having problems. They fixed the bike in a few days, it honestly wasn't that long, and then it worked perfectly. Fast forward 3 months though, and it's having the same problem. It is a rock shox rear shock, so that explain some of why it was broken, but they honesty didn't do a good job. A friend of mine had shifting problems and couldn't figure out what was wrong so he took it here. After a while, they just gave it back to him and said they didn't know how to fix it, but the only problem was a bent derailleur hanger, which could have been fixed in under 10 mins. To give them some credit, they have fixed plenty of things well, and only have messed up on like 10% or less of repairs. Okay, now I'll explain why I actually gave a two star review. This place is soooooooooo overpriced. Where do I even start? The failed shock repair cost $250, a friends Brake pad swap cost $150, and a derailleur adjustment cost $15. (Okay that last one isn't that overpriced) Also please never buy parts directly from them it's just such a bad idea, just go to Amazon or a first to consumer place like jenson USA or competitive cyclist. They just overcharge on any spar parts you buy. Also, all of this is coming from somebody who knows how to fix just about everything on bikes (besides that shock which can only be serviced by a professional). I have also raced bikes for a while and always keep up with different brands and pricing. It's not that I don't know about bikes, it just that they know that they can get away with overcharging for a lot of common components. read more

Another self-important shop with horrible passive aggressive salesman who act like they have Phd's in retail customer service and choose to work for $15/h and somehow are doing you a favor, I wouldn't be surprised if they asked for a tip at the end of the purchase, if you can somehow get in. Stopped here to check out some helmets, litterally a warehouse with 3-5 customers in there but you have to make an appointment to go inside, outside customers dropped out of the line one by one, finally get to the front, see the sign and realize we have to text a # to make an appointment, litterally 5 employees walked passed the line without letting any of the customers know anything, I decided to send the text and see what happens, get prompted to go to a website to make an appointment, I go back to my car and get another text to inform them about my first/last name, email and spot (spot in line? Parking spot?), so I decide to go back to the store front and ask an employee, he said the only way to shop is curbside, I litterally stopped at a shop because I need to try the helmets or I'd shop online, I told him it was somewhat passive aggressive to not allow customers into a 10,000+ sq ft warehouse when no one is in the shop, with masks, and he told me "there was a global pandemic" I'm relieved he brought it up because I hadn't noticed, not even specialized themselves have such pompous attitude, only in Austin, never shop here. read more

Hey, Bernadette! Aren't you a runner? Yes I'm still a runner. So what are you doing at Bicycle Sport Shop? They sell bikes, y'know. There's no running gear. When I started doing cross training for running, I found spin classes as a perfect compliment to my running. It also helped me a lot to get back into shape. I had to buy shoes for spin classes because I was sick and tired of renting shoes out or using the harness. I can tell you it was money well spent because I intend to take more spin classes even though I'm back to running. I come in feeling as though I entered into another world. I'm used to going to any running store and feel like I'm at home. Don't worry the salespeople made me feel at home and they didn't make me feel bad I wasn't interested in buying a bike. Although it must be bicycle heaven with a decent selection of bikes. Instead, I just bought some shoes for spin class and the person was helpful in getting me shoes along with installing clips on the bottom. Overall, I had a good experience shopping there and if I need to enter the world of being a cyclist I assure you that I will come here. read more

As a biking newb, I was a little intimidated coming in here as I wasn't sure if I would be given any attention considering I was looking at purchasing a bike on the cheaper side. When I saw the prices of the bikes, I pretty much made a judgement that yes, this is not the place for me. Oh how wrong I was! A staff member (I wish I remembered your name) saw me and asked if I needed help. After I made clear what I'm looking for and what the expectations for pricing was, he then proceeded to find the right bike for me. We tried out a bunch of them in my price range and the whole process took over an hour. He didn't rush me or get irritated. It was obvious he was passionate about bikes and introducing them to newbs such as myself. He told me to think about it and also consult a doctor as I have back issues and whether or not I should be riding a bike that's leaned-in or upright. No pressure at all. I asked for his hours so when I come back I can purchase from him but he said they don't work on commission so I can talk to anyone. What a nice guy. I frequented this store twice after this experience with two other staff members before buying my bike and my experiences with them has been similar. No pressure, laid back knowledgeable people. That was a year ago. Ever since then, I have come here for my biking needs. I don't care if there's a 'better' place, or if I can get something for cheaper elsewhere. Heck, there's even the same shop up in north Austin somewhere where I now live, but I still come here. My experiences has been that good! Yes, it's true, they get really busy sometimes. But I've never felt rushed and I've never been not helped here. All accessories, servicing, general knowledge, you name it.. I do it here. We are from San Antonio and made the drive up to Austin to get the bike I really wanted. I didn't want to settle for a color I didn't like so we made it a point to check their inventory and made sure it was there in stock. When we arrived the shop was not open inside due to COVID but I followed the directions on the poster set up outside to text the store inside and wait for assistance. We only waited a couple minutes and we were greeted by Kimi and she assisted us with all our questions and made us feel comfortable with our purchases. Thank you!! I went to Trek for the first time two years ago in March. I was looking for a nice bike. Everyone who helped was amazing. Fast forward two years later, I had to take my bike in after a minor crash. And it was still the same level of great service. Matt the service guy took care of me as I took it in. And James was the gentlemen who helped me when I went to go pick it up. Great stuff especially for a novice bike buyer like me who will go to a brick and mortar shop for one reason: I'm happy to pay a little extra to avoid making an expensive mistake. So I went to the store cash in hand ready to buy a bike. Entry level. Even had something picked out from Trek web page, but advice from the sales was very appreciated. The downside: it was sad that the Trek manufacturer didn't have anything for them to sell in that line and that even preorders were pushed out for months. How can you stay in business if you don't have product to sell? I won't deduct a star from this shop for something out of their control, but you gotta be aware of it as a problem since generally you'd go there to buy something. read more

Had a great experience buying a pair of bikes today. Since my son and I are more novice riders, the help that the salesperson (named Tom) gave us was super helpful in picking the right bike for us. He spent a couple of hours answering my numerous questions and giving feedback on the bikes we test rode along with recommending the appropriate accessories that fit out needs based on our discussions. I spoke to Service Advisor Joseph Morrow who greeted me so positively from the start. I explained the situation as to purchasing a new TREK Damone SL in California and he was eager to help me. My husband and I have been here multiple times. The first time we went I was buying a new road bike, which I love. The sales guy was very helpful and since I didn't want to ride around the parking lot alone, he brought a bike out for my husband just to make me comfortable. The second time my husband rented a Cervelo and the rental guys were very helpful and they let my husband know when the bikes were going to go on sale. I have used the service department twice since having my bike and both times they were very friendly and called when the bike was done which was earlier than was expected. The most recent visit I bought new shoes and pedals and the salesman again was very patient and explained the differences in pedals and even had the pedals installed while the bike was there being serviced at no extra charge. read more

This is a review of my visit to the South Lamar shop, I also visited the Research Blvd shop and they didn't have the size of bike available there that I was interested in and they send me here. I stopped by last week and was quickly greeted and told the sales guy what I was looking for, he showed me the bike and I asked to test ride. It was pretty easy, they just let me head out. Unfortunately they are on a super busy road and I was advised not to leave the parking lot, not the best way to test ride I think. I asked a few questions and I'm not sure the sales guy really knew much about the bike or the tech. While I was there, I looked at the used bikes in the back, and one caught my eye. I went back to the same sales guy and he said he couldn't help me with those bikes, I had to get a salesman from back there. I went back and was ignored by 3 guys and the other sales guy was helping someone else. After 10 minutes or so I left without anyone ever helping me. Could have just been a bad day but either way they lost a potential sale because it was a really nice bike. read more

Really great level of customer service from everyone I interacted with. Paul in the Service department took a good amount of time diagnosing my issues, and provided really great insight on what I would need to fix/prevent future ones. Justin on the retail floor was incredibly helpful as well. Being a first time clip rider, he walked me through the whole process, and helped set my cleats up while getting my new clips installed. I'll continue to be a customer of theirs. The COVID-19 era is really not the ideal time for a novice to shop for a new type of bike but Katie and Bicycle Sport Shop made it a better experience than I could hope for. Since we can't browse their showroom and handle the bikes, consultations have to be done over the phone and purchases made online. Then Bicycle Sport Shop has a fantastic, well thought out process for a contactless pickup. They're sure making the best of a bad situation. I used their online form to explain what I was interested in and was fortunate enough to receive a call from Katie on Saturday evening. Of course I was in isolation so I didn't have anything else going on and it was great to hear from her! Katie let me know to check my email for a long message she had written with links to various bikes she thought might interest me with a paragraph about each one explaining how they fit into what I submitted on their form. This was not some form letter from her. This was all about my specific needs! I think we spent over 30 minutes with her listening to my thoughts, answering questions, and explaining new concepts. She was just so pleasant and patient and perfect for me. I would have kept her on the phone much longer with many more questions but I realize I'm not their only customer and she probably had a backlog. Why else would she call me on Saturday evening? So I made my decision, attempted to purchase online late that night, and there was some sort of technical glitch. I sent an email to Katie explaining the problem and as soon as they opened on Sunday morning, Katie was on the case. She looked into it and sent me an invoice to pay. Then, since I purchased three items that were in stock at two different stores, she coordinated with her coworkers to get things ready for me and it wasn't long before I had all my fancy new stuff. Katie was outstanding all the way through and their contactless pickup process worked beautifully. I have been back a few times since I got my bike upgraded. I went on a search to buy a bike for my wife. We finally settled on an Electra because it seemed the best all around basic bike to suit her needs. I don't think there was a bike store I didn't go to in Austin before we went back to Bike Sports Shop. They were cheaper, more knowledgable, had a better selection, and I didn't know my wife bought me a bike and got a discount on it because we had purchased hers. I went back to get a pump too. Excellent pump. They had a bigger selection than I had seen elsewhere. While I wasn't excited to pay what I did, they weren't more expensive, I just wasn't going cheap. read more

I was in the market for my next Trek bike and my local trek dealers were out of the size. I did some research and found that the bike was located at Trek Bicycle Lamar. I reached out to the store to inquire to confirm in stock, before driving down from Dallas. I asked to buy it online or over the phone so I can insure it will be in stock when I arrive after a 3+ hour drive. The store specially told me "We can not accept payment online or over the phone, We also can not hold the bike. It is a very popular bike" I continued my search and actually found the same bike located in several of the stores in Oklahoma. They offered online purchase and I was able to secure it before driving 3+ hours north. Was at the bike shop for 10 mins and the bike was ready once I arrived. Yes! I drove 6 hours for a bike purchase. First Class Service in OKC! I highly recommend that Trek Bike Lamar consider the effects of Covid19 and build out a way for online purchases/in store pickup. They offered Curbside service however this is not the curbside service that other retailers are currently offering. read more

I had to rent a bike in Austin for a race I had 9/20/19. I live in Las Vegas and had to fly in. Julian and Chase made this rental seamless! My bike was awesome. My wife and I always feel welcome at the Bicycle Sport Shop. She's the avid cycler, and I'm usually just there for support, but we're always greeted and treated with friendly, helpful service. Started coming here years ago when she was regularly riding the MS150, and most recently rented a vintage bike cruiser from them. I believe this is the only location, btw, that does bike rentals. The gentlemen working the rentals couldn't be any easier to work with. We very much enjoyed the outstanding service we received from Mike and Sebastian, and we wouldn't hesitate to come back to them again for our future bike rental needs. On the way out, we had a little trouble getting our cruiser to fit in our car. After several attempts under the hot Texas sun, we were grateful that a helpful employee there (John) noticed and went out of his way to help us. He suggested removing the handle bars, and it finally fit! To top it off, we didn't have an allen wrench set to put the handle bars back on so he lent us his personal allen wrench on the honor code! Who does that anymore?!? You know who does? John and the rest of the awesome team at Bicycle Sport Shop! We've been loyal customers for years, but yesterday, you guys earned two customers for life.
