I met the owner of Mod Bikes at SXSW a few years ago. He told us about the bikes, demonstrated the Lumos helmet and invited us to the annual social ride. I wasn't able to join the ride but never forgot the interaction. I have been in the market for an additional ebike. My current bike is older and heavy. I can't transport it in my car because it is 1. Too large to fit in my vehicle, 2. Too heavy to lift 3. Too heavy for my hitch mounted bike rack. I have had my eye on the foldable bike, Mod City + Step Thru 3.I decided to schedule a test drive to check out two of their bikes the Mod City + Step Thru 3 and the Mod Berlin 3 Step Thru 3. I decided to stick with my original choice of a foldable bike and ordered it that day. I took a friend, and she purchased a bike as well. Three days later I receive an email stating my bike was ready to pick up. When we arrived, we were greeted by the staff and the mechanic who builds the bikes and added the accessories (I got the back rack, foldylock and Scout Bike alarm) . We received detailed instructions on how to maintain the life of the battery, safety features, how to use the accessories we purchased and how to fold and stow the bike. We even had a chance to test drive out new bikes in their large parking lot. Adjustments were made to ensure our bikes fit us exactly. That day my friend and I rode our bikes around my neighborhood, we noticed a clicking noise from my bike, later that week I rode the bike to CapTex Tri to volunteer and noticed the gears were slipping so I emailed Mod Bikes (on the weekend) and got an immediate response to bring the bike back in (They said it was a simple fix and that I did not need an appointment). Luckily, I live in Austin and was able to take the bike back a few days later. I was in and out within 30 minutes. Overall, I am pleased with my new bike, the freedom of it being foldable and the customer service by both the sales team and the mechanic. If you are curious about e-bikes you should go for a test drive at Mod Bikes and see what all the hype is about. Advertised same day service, get there after talking to sales and made appointment. Garage manager told me 48hrs min and was rude as hell. I literally had the bike less than a month recently fell and got stitches in my knee. I came to the shop for help on fixing some things and talk about safety of tire. Garage manager said do you see all those tickets I can't help. Yeah nobody else was in the store. I've had to retighten basically every screw and bolt on the bike because the bad ass garage manager must be allergic to lock tight. I like the bike, hate the company and will never recommend it to anyone. 700 miles on it so far. Sales guys will tell you anything to make the sale. They told me it was perfect for where I was riding, garage manager said no when I brought it in. Cannot recommend enough. Thank you MOD Squad. I have owned my Easy 3 for about 5-6 weeks now. I'm so glad I went with a local brand after sifting through the endless list on no-name e-bike companies. The Easy 3 is a joy to ride, smooth, stylish and comfortable. It handles city traffic and potholes like a boss and boogies up my hilly neighborhood. The highlight however is the customer support and service. They took my bad situation and made the most of it. The sales team are knowledgeable, transparent, helpful and all around cool people. I even hit a curb riding at night going full speed and the bike wasn't damaged at all. (The bike path deviated and I didn't see the curb and most definitely almost broke my legs after flying over the handlebars lol) Very comfortable, functional and resilient. They strong armed me to keep a defective bike, even going so far as to tell me that if I wanted to return the defective bike, I would have to buy shipping boxes myself and insure I packed it VERY carefully, insinuating that I may not get my money back if they found even a scratch on the bike. Was on a ride with a friend on town lake trail Sunday afternoon and had a chain break. Being about 8 miles from home and feeling this was not going to end well. I searched bike repairs and Mod Bikes was the closest and still open. I called them to see what they could do, not knowing they specialized in electric hybrid bikes. While they were busy with other repairs they told me to come by because they could probably get me fixed up. Well after walking my bike over a mile to their south 1st location it was definitely uplifting to know they could get me fixed up. My husband, 8 month old son, and I rented electric bikes from Mod Bikes and we were very satisfied. The employees were very helpful and made sure we were confident in riding the bikes before we took off. A child's seat was conveniently and safely installed on the back of my husband's bike where our baby sat. Exploring Austin on the bike is one of the best ways to do it and I highly recommend it. I bought my husband a Berlin bike because he started a new job in town. He'll use the bike to commute from our house in 78704 to downtown. The owners are wonderful. They really educated us on their product and electric bikes in general. We are already electric car drivers. We pre-ordered the bike and it was ready in less than a month. Upon pick up it was in perfect condition. They recommended the hubby come back in a month for a tune up but also offered he should come back any time. All tune ups and maintenance are included. Can't say enough about Mod Bikes, they are more than accomodating and helpful to their customers. We walked in without a reservation but were easily checked in and had our bikes within 10 minutes. One of our members was a little anxious, since it was their first time on an electric bike, and the owner was more than kind, spending time with her to teach her how to ride the bike in the parking lot until she was comfortable and did not start our hour of rented time until after she was ready.
