Called and asked if I could bring my bike in for service, they said sure, but WHEN I ARRIVED, that's when staff told me, "Our turnaround time right now is about two weeks, is that okay?" That's what they should have said WHEN I CALLED, before I went in. I said so, but the staffer didn't seem very concerned. So, I'd take off two stars for that. However, they were able to get my bike fixed up in only a week. So, for underpromising and overdelivering, they get an extra star. Excellent bike shop especially for the high-end mountain biker. I needed the bearings replaced on my full suspension 29er and I went to local shop where the bike was purchased. They gave me a price of $300 for parts and labor. I had heard that Cycle Progression had Intense bikes so I gave them a call. The price Alex gave me was $150 for parts and labor. "Oh hell yeah you got my business!" I went ahead and spend an additional $150 on other items since I was figuring on $300 for the total. Sine they were keeping the bike over the weekend they even offerred to loan FOR FREE a $2k bike so I could ride over the weekend. I have also taken my road bike here as well and been 100% satsfied with the work. They have always had the bike ready when they said it would be and the work is done right the first time. They lack a lot of the accessories but if you can wait a few days they can get you whatever you need. Suprised to find them amidst all the other bike shops within a few miles but they have won me as a loyal customer. read more

Alex is a great guy and this shop is really worth a visit. I have had my bike in several times for repairs and they were always done expertly, on time. Once I broke the main pivot bolt on my bike and Alex actually contacted me. He opened the shop on a holiday and replaced the bolt for me while I waited. My go-to shop for a long time, for a million reasons. Top of the list is that they can fix anything. Anything. I've blown up a small universe of different parts on a couple bikes, and they've always fixed it quickly, or scavenged something from the parts bin to hold me over until a specialty part came in. Top-notch service at very reasonable prices, without the attitude or the wait that comes from dealing with the bigger shops in town. Also saved my bacon more than a couple times, fixing my more-spectacular failed DIY attempts on very short notice. These guys build custom bikes, and also seem to do bike rental. They have lots of mountain bikes.. My aluminum mountain bike frame was damaged beyond repair, and after an elaborate search through Austin's many bike stores and frame builders, I am happy that I found Cycle Progression. Emile and Alex found a good and affordable new frame for me (by Voodoo), and had it delivered within two days. They assembled it the same day so that I could continue on my road trip (by car) around the US without losing too much time. But what's even more amazing, they used parts that were already on my bike which other bike mechanics in Austin said would have to be replaced with brand new parts (such as an entirely new rear wheel, including rim, spokes, and hub, and a front derailleur). They also gave me a discount on the labor cost, and did a fine job at assembling the whole thing. These guys were really sympathetic about my situation, and helped me out within two days against a cost that no other bike store in Austin had offered me (in fact, most others tried to persuade me to trash the bike and buy a new one from their store). So if you ever have serious bike trouble, call Cycle Progression. They are amazing! read more

I bought a new dropper post online and tried installing it myself, but clipped the cable too short in the process. I called some local bike shops to have them complete the install, but everyone was super backed up. I reached out to Cycle Progression and they got back to me right away! They asked me to bring it in and they would do their best to get it done same day, regardless of their current work load. I know a dropper install doesn't take long (when you know what you're doing) but they went above and beyond to get me back in the saddle. I never write reviews, really. Never! But in this case something happened so remarkable in todays world of mediocrity that I just had to. I had never been to Cycle Progression before but own a Yeti SB100 and took it by on the advice of a friend for some routine maintenance. Nothing out of the ordinary with check in and turnaround time was pretty normal. The extraordinary service began when something went wrong. I received a call from Don letting me know that he had scratched my Yeti frame while servicing the bottom bracket. It was obvious that he was really torn up about it and that this does not happen very often, if at all. He wanted to meet with me face to face when I picked up the bike to be sure they did what was right to satisfy the issue. When I picked it up Don offered to take pictures and send them to Yeti if I wanted so they could tell us if it was at all structural or would cause any problems. When he showed it to me I was expecting the worst but it wasn't horrible and quite frankly seemed to me to fit right in with the other scratches on the bike. We ride hard on very rocky and technical trails so it goes w/o saying that this was not the 1st scratch on the bike. Had he not told me about it I most likely would have figured that I did it myself. That would have been the easy thing to do and sadly what most shops and technicians would do. Everyone can shine when things go right, the real test of a company or person is how problems or mistakes are handled. I will tell you that it is because of this attitude and the quality of the service provided that they are my new bike shop and I will be a walking advocate of theirs. Oh, and by the way he would not accept payment for the service although I was insistent that it would be OK if he did because I want shops like theirs to survive. read more

Best bike shop in the universe. I've been to almost every bike shop in Austin - and many around the world - and no other place even comes close in terms of service and attitude. These guys do it right and you'll never need to worry about finding another shop once you go in and get to know them. They're known for being a mountain bike-centric shop, and for good reason, but they know their road stuff too and will work on anything you bring in without any bs attitude. They know what's up and are in it for the right reasons. I'm now in the Bay Area where there's a bike shop within spitting distance of every street corner and people take their cycling damn seriously, and I've yet to find anywhere or anybody as close to badass as Alex, Emile, and Rich. I had a broken spoke and after putting the bike on the rack, they found that it was a size they didn't carry (the bike has an IGH so the spokes on the rear are short). They removed the spoke so it wouldn't cause problems and gave it to me to take to Bicycle Sport Shop because they would probably have that size, and if they couldn't do the work today, Cycle Progression said bring the new spoke back and they'd install it for me. They also noticed a bolt was missing from my rack and replaced it at no charge. Also, they have a really nice dog. Will definitely go back for other needs. read more

I have been cycling for many years and have used most of the shops in Austin over the years. Cycle Progression has ended this for me. I will only use this shop from now on. The other shops in Austin should go in and take not of what true customer service is in a pure and natural state. Emil and Alex are sincere and care about what ever your current cycling needs might be. They give great advice and know the products well. They are not there to squeeeeeeze your last dollar out of you and when this is present in retail you gain loyalty. All I need to know about this shop is that they now have Tim C, formerly at Austin TriCyclist, doing service. Tim has a great attitude, and he can do things that literally no one else in Austin can (e.g. rebuild my Cannondale Lefty). Austin TriCyclist said, "oh, we can send that fork to Cannondale to rebuild, and it will take two to four weeks." What? I asked. Someone here took care of it last time. "Yeah, that was Tim, but he's not here anymore. But here's his number." Hey, this just became a joint five-star review. I still love Austin TriCyclist, for reasons including that they pointed me to a different provider when that was the best way to serve me. And I now know Cycle Progression. I live a block from this place but, after a few visits, would prefer to ride (or walk) to the Peddler, eight or ten blocks further away. I took an old Peugeot in for a replacement brake cable; one of the guys put the cable on but told me that the slot in the brake lever that held the cable was broken, and that I'd need entirely new levers; I went home and inserted the cable myself with needle-nose pliers; it took longer than it normally would have, though, so I'm assuming that the guy either a) didn't want to spend ten extra minutes on a cheap repair and decided to try and up-sell me instead, or b) didn't know what he was talking about, since I've had precisely zero problems with this brake in the last month or so. Another of the guys (different guy) was a little condescending when answering a couple of basic questions, and got defensive when I asked clarifying questions about his answers. Even if I were asking totally bone-headedly stupid questions, you'd think the guy would, like, just be polite. I would assume that this is especially important at a new-ish store that I would assume wants to build rapport with nearby customers. But to make up for it, the guys have a great sense of humor: the lack of a bike rack in front of a bike store is sheer ironic genius. read more
