It has been a while since I have been in a store where every store associate is super helpful and go out of their way to extend next level service. When I was an avid cyclist, Trek Bicycle was known as Austin's most dependable and all-around bike shop with a wide range of cyclist customers. I went into Trek for a two-fold purpose: 1) buy new bike shoes and 2) inquire regarding the status of my bike tires that have been seating in the garage for years (new tires or new tubes). When you walk into the store, you are met with a sea of bicycles...every color and style imaginable. Fortunately, I do not need a new bicycle because mine is in good shape. So, first, I inquire about my tires. The repair specialist was so super helpful, and he assured me that my tires might be ok. He suggested bringing the tires into the bike shop so he could inspect them. Next, I headed over to the bike shoe area, which is small but importantly they were having a sale. I snagged some $120 bike shoes for $30...score!!! Also, the sales associate offered to order me some insoles since they were out in my size. Super kind... The store sells a wide range of Trek bikes, including road, mountain, hybrid, and electric models, along with associated accessories and gear. The sales associates are top notch - super knowledgeable and not high-pressure sales folks. Also, the bike shop is known for its bike rentals, especially for visitors wanting to explore nearby Lady Bird Lake trail or nearby neighborhoods. Next visit tire inspection...

Absolutely no pressure in sales and when you're spending $2k on a bicycle you want to feel like you're not being pressured to buy but being helped to purchase the right bike for you. Can't recommend the team here enough! Post purchase I came back in to get some adjustments and advice and the team was more than willing to take time to help adjust seat height and hood angle to get the right comfort fit. I was cross shopping a Canyon brand bike but you just can't put a price on having a brick and mortar to turn to for post purchase support and service. Highly recommend this store and Trek!

They were busy and so was everyone else so I ended up going to another store that was able to squeeze me in for a bike check for $100. This other store did a fine job checking my bike but my shifters were still messed up when I rode it. Obviously my fault for being impatient. This other store was going to charge me another $60-$90 to fix the shifters and another $200-$300 for new tires, including installation. So I ended up going back to Clown dog - and should've waited and gone there instead to begin with. They did a great job consulting me on tire options and have access to order a variety of tires and it cost me only a fraction for installation and to tune my shifters. Solid. I'm a happy customer and they have become our go to store for all of our bike needs. This place is a gem.

I waited at the shop while the work was being done, and when the bike was returned to me, the wheel had been installed on the fixed-gear side. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the change before riding. While going downhill, I stopped pedaling expecting to coast, only to discover the bike was now in fixed gear. I lost control and crashed and got scraped up. I returned to the shop and explained what had happened. They flipped the wheel and barely uttered "Sorry about that," and I was sent on my way. While I was there the first time, another customer also brought in a wheel that had been mounted improperly. I would be cautious about having work performed here.

After he let me know I wouldn't need to pre-pay; I started to ask another question with the intention of seeing if he had suggestions on other bikes that might work for me. When he interrupted me again with frustration in his voice, I hung up on him. Maybe he misunderstood the phrase "Keep Austin Weird" as "Keep Austin Wired". I'm guessing there are no commission sales. Either way, I'm pretty certain I can locate the model I am looking for elsewhere... Even if it's in October, another city, or an online retailer. Update: {2025} I ended up calling a store in San Marcos next. They were amazing and I ended up buying several bikes from them over the next 5 years, whil sending all my friends from Austin to them. I was talked into going to Mellow Johnnies a few months back to get some supplies to help a friend with his bike. At least they maintained some consistency, their service was terrible. Whether you are a noob or an experienced rider, I'd find another shop.

After talking to a few pest companies, not only did they get the species of ants wrong (acrobat vs carpenter) which affects the bait being used, but they also can't get their story straight. I contacted them about an ant infestation inside my home. The technician who came out placed sugar bait inside to eliminate colony. He told me that an exterior treatment was not necessary at that time. I accepted that recommendation, due to potential exposure for my active dog. Months later, I called to follow up because the ant problem had not been resolved. I was then told the $216.50 treatment of simply adding sugar bait for the interior also included exterior treatment during the original visit. That was surprising because I was never told an exterior treatment had been done. When I asked where it had been applied, they did not give me a clear answer regarding the exterior. Paying for another treatment isn't the issue. If the ants require another visit, I'm happy to pay for it. My concern is that the explanation of what was actually done has changed. Now, they're saying I have to pay another $216 for their services again. Something just isn't adding up. If there's a reasonable explanation, I'd like to hear it. Based on the conflicting information, I have little confidence in their service.

If I have a specific problem between visits, like a wasp nest, they're quick to come out and take care of it. Most of what I need is included in the annual service. Mosquito treatment is an additional charge, but that's separate from the standard plan. I also appreciate that they don't push unnecessary interior treatments when there aren't any issues. Their pricing is competitive, and their payment and scheduling system is excellent. It's easy to manage appointments, and they're very responsive by text whenever I have a question or need service. Overall, I've been very happy with Atex and would definitely recommend them.

I was in town for a conference and looking for the best bike shop in Austin so I could burn some time, talk shop, and rent a few bikes for hitting some local trails. Coming from Mpls, the land of the Big Box Bike Shops, I was blown away by how easy going, knowledgeable and laid back Alex and Emile were (I also solicited some solid advice on an upcoming bike build), it didn't hurt they had a killer selection of rental bikes either. Not one shop in MN has a Pivot Mach 5.7 for sale, let alone rent, Cycle Progression had 2, not to mention they also let me try out the 429er, just because "you should at least "try" a 29er". Long story short, great guys, great shop and bikes you could drool over for a week if they let you spend the night. Hoping they franchise a store in MN. *Still have to wait another 8 wks before the first Mpls store will have a Pivot Mach 5.7 in stock....makes me love my trip to Austin even more. read more

Stopped by on recommendation of a riding buddy. When I mention that to Emil he immediately knew who I was talking about and ran down the specs of the build he did for my buddy off the top of his head. After much consulting with Emil & Alex, I zeroed in on the model I wanted and went to the Cycle Progression demo at the Greenbelt. The next week I gave Emil my budget and he priced out several options, patiently describing the subtle differences in each while providing his expert opinion on where best to spend money on the build. To get within my budget, Emil was able to create a hybrid of new and demo components. While the frame I wanted appeared to be on backorder around the country with riders still waiting months for their bikes, Cycle Progression had mine in a couple of weeks. A sick bike from a shop that treats their customers right - I can't recommend them more highly. read more

Cycle Progression is the best bike shop in town. That is if you prefer top of the line full-suspension mountain bikes, hardtail bikes, cyclocross, and road bikes. Alex (the owner) really knows his bikes and provides the best customer service. I just got a Pivot Mach 429 from him and he has provided refined tuning and followed up on how I like the ride, etc... He carries all the best brands, Turner bikes, Titus Bikes, Pivot Bikes, Spot Bikes, Vassago Bikes, Intense and I may go back and get a BH bike from him. read more

Cycle Progression did great maintenance for my daughter's mountain bike so she could win state championship at the high school mountain bike league for two years. Alex and Doug of Cycle Progression volunteered to train her Westlake HS team how to do basic bike maintenance and emergency repair. We trust their judgement on bikes a lot. I wandered in to this shop to get a tire fixed and discovered a real honest business. These guys really know their product and their mechanics can fix anything! They gave me great customer service and advice with out the pretentiousness that I have found at other bike shops of this caliber. I moved to Austin recently and during the really cold weather earlier this, I thought it was a good time to take the bike in for the Annual Service & Cleaning. I've always been happy when taking my bike in to a Specialized store for service... but this is an entirely different level of customer service! First, no need to call. Just book it entirely online (my preference). I filled out the information online and for the remainder of the scheduling, it was all done via text. They are very accommodating and it was easy to get an appointment to bring my bike in. The repair shop is located at a different location but they really go that extra special touch. When you arrive, just text them and a service person will come out to your car and pick up the bike. No waiting, no extra paper work to fill out. Literally hand it over to them and you are on your way! Now, as I said, I've always been pleased with repairs/service from Specialized store, but generally you are going to wait some time. Being this is Austin, and I'm sure others had the same idea given the weather, I had anticipated a few weeks to get my bike back. But instead it was only a few days! When they contacted me, I thought it was to tell me they discovered something that needed replacing, but instead, it was just to pick up the bike. Payment online is a breeze so again, just had to pull, text and someone brought the bike out to my car. It's like the Ritz Carlton of bike shops! My bike as good as the first day I purchased it. That is until months later when I took a spill. Just not paying attention while riding; I noticed the gears not shifting as smoothly so I knew exactly who to take it to! Again, getting an appointment was as easy as the next day! After dropping the bike off, it wasn't long before I received a call and fortunately, it was something pretty minor and I would be able to get my bike the next day! I don't live in Austin, but it's worth the drive for the quality of work they do and their professionalism. Certainly they work on other bike brands, but if you own a Specialized (or any other bike) you won't ever regret bringing your bike here. Everything from the scheduling, the speed and quality of their work to the friendly staff, this is truly a Five Star business!

The trail is a mostly flat winding path through fields and wooded areas with one decent hill towards the end if starting from Govalle Park. At the top of the hill at the end you are rewarded with a few spots of dt Austin from the NE. Be sure to bring plenty of water during the summer as it can get prettty hot out and certain areas are directly in the sun and can be a little draining. Great easy bike path for those that want something paved, no dirt path and a nice leisurely ride.
