Do you want to go somewhere where the people are friendly and attentive? Do you want to go somewhere with a great wine/drink menu? Do you want good food? I have found that place and it really is an out of the way gem! Tree Tavern is one of those places you hope for and I have found it. My husband and I shared a bottle of Pinot noir and started while a cheese plate...Yum! Our favorite was the balsamic & cipollini onion coated cheddar...UNBELIEVABLE! For dinner I had the special chicken saltimbocca served over spinach. OMG people - it was tender and flavorful! My husband had his go to chicken parm and it was delicious too. Honestly, I am taking a breather before I decide about dessert but if it is anything like the meal I am sure not to be disappointed. This was a nice hidden gem for a while but seems to be getting a lot busier every year. We like to visit during the summer when the outside area is open. I have been inside also and it is nicely decorated and very comfortable but I enjoy the outside area. We come here to eat and prices here are reasonable for sure. The problem that keeps getting worse is the level of service. Our last experience was definitely our worst. How does multiple people order different food and each dish come out one at a time? Our party ordered several bottles of wine and a few of us were drinking beer. Very difficult to get a refill. What is most concerning is seeing the owners right there working along side the other employees slowing down service. Perfect example is bringing things outside and stocking them for customers as they show up. I understand but instead of having 3 people bring out and stock items how about one person do it and the other 2 wait on the customers all hovering around waiting for drinks and food? I would definitely not go back with a large group like last time. read more

This place is the best! We were excited to find this wine bar when we moved to town. We went there the night we closed on our house and the owner, Mike, bought us a bottle of champagne and toasted to us! It was so nice! The next time we went with our families they have us a tour of the wine cellar. It's our go to for a nice relaxing dinner or a bottle of wine at the bar and some pizza. We love Rioja and they always have a pretty good selection. All the customer, waitresses and bartenders are super friendly. Tree Tavern is a great venue but is currently in dispute with neighbors. A local judge has barred the Tavern from using their outside seating until dispute is over. Inside is great but small, so they are in a tough spot. Call often to find out if outdoor seating, which is beautiful, can be used once more. Our first trip was last night and we will be back. This is a cute little unexpected surprise, hidden in a residential area. If you didn't know it was there, you would never find it... it looks like just another house until you see the lot behind it and the landscaped outdoor seating area. The bartenders are friendly, the outdoor seating is a nice space (tables nestled in among chimneas, fire pits and woods) and the menu has been expanded to include small plates, cheese plates, burgers, salads and a few entrées. The background music was a mix of folk/acoustic and really set a cozy, intimate tone. I have only two complaints about this place; one, their choice of wines by the glass is extremely lacking, limited to one or two choices. And second, the service. We had a waitress who could tell us nothing at all about the wines and we had to ask for our second round three times. She seemed friendly, but apparently overloaded with tables. I have to say, some sales were lost here. We might have been talked into a nice bottle of wine had we had a server who knew how to guide us through the wine list, and at the very least we would have had more than 2 drinks each during our 3-hour visit here (which was such because of the wait for our drinks) if the service was more attentive. If their waitstaff was more knowledgable about the wines and the service more robust, I would be happy to spend more time and money here. I like it here, I hope they do well, and I would come back, but I hesitate to do so with those of my friends who are really into trying new wines. And that's a shame because... it's a wine bar. read more

Tree tavern has an amazing wine selection and you'll find some awesome bourbons there that you won't find anywhere else. The staff is friendly and the food is great. Really couldn't ask for more in a restaurant. Plus I love its location, totally unexpected. read more

It saddens me to give this bad review to this restaurant, however the past 3 times I have been here, I have been treated very poorly. This was hands down my favorite place to go for the past six months. Once the restaurant began getting more popular and the hours increased, my friends and I have felt very unwelcomed here. I have talked to other people my age (Mid 20's) who frequent this place and they have said the same thing. I even asked other young couples who were in the restaurant at the same time as me, if they felt the same way, and they said yes! The waitresses and owners do not treat young people with respect. They rush to get you out of the restaurant. They allowed older people to eat outside before the patio was officially open, and do not allow anyone who looks like they're under 40 to do so. After 2 drinks they interrogated my fiance about driving. I was even asked if my driver's license was fake. The waitress even knew that all of us were high school teachers and came out on the patio and told us that teachers should know to be more quiet. If you are younger than 40 years old do not go to this place! You will be treated like a child. It makes me sad to say this, because I really did love this place, and enjoyed being there for quite a while, but I don't plan on returning. read more

This hidden gem is right around the corner and you probably never knew it existed. The bar itself has been around since the prohibition and has taken many different forms over the years. The drink menu is extensive and they have a great wine selection. The food menu looks great but we didn't try anything this time... The bartenders were friendly and we definitely be going back... Found out about this place when I was searching for fun things to do in Passaic County. Sounded great and my fiance and I love wine so we thought we would try it out! When we first got there we were a little confused as to where we were to park and walk in. We now know why this place is not well known about, but we're glad we found it because the service, food, and wine was amazing! The ambiance was also very nice. This is one of my favorite wine bar/restaurants in NJ. The owner, Mike, is very low key and welcoming for a guy who knows his wines as well as he does (no snootiness). The place has been here forever, so in today's world seems well off the beaten track. Beautiful yet cozy inside, amazing gardens outside in warm weather. Wine list by bottle and glass is very interesting as you might expect. The prices are WAY better than your normal restaurant, bar, wine bars. Food is very well done and reasonably priced for the quality served. Set your GPS and find this place: you will not regret it. Hidden away in a neighborhood in Wanaque. Very loud and over crowded dining room, probably nicer in warm weather when you can expand outside. Service was rather sloppy, asked for straw for beverage and received stirrers. Never brought cheeses for Italian dishes. Pizza tasted like pizza sauce was used. Pasta way over cooked. Hidden is right, but definitely no GEM! How this place is allowed to be located where it is seems very shady. It's in a residential neighborhood, people out walking the dogs, kids riding their bikes, not where you would expect to find a bar. There was no parking in the lot, so we had to go down the street....some old lady comes out and yells at me not to park in front of her house. Ordered a nice bottle of wine, however it was paired with a fish entrée that was clearly frozen and not fresh! Sat outside and stared at some trees in the backwoods and some people swimming in their pool.....very weird! This out-of-the-way place is what you'd call a "real find." You feel like in on some kind of "best kept secret." Cozy. Friendly. Terrific wine list. Convivial enough to hang out with a group of friends, but quiet enough for a date night. We always enjoyed the limited menu here, to go with our wine. Now we're concerned that they're taking the place in a more formal direction, with heavier entrees. Doesn't really seem to fit the casual, wine bar ambiance. I want to sample lots of fun and elegant small plates with my wine, and if I wanted chicken and mashed potatoes, I'd go to some restaurant. But it won't keep me from coming back -- this is a charming gem. read more

i've been here a handful of times now and i feel like it deserves a review. my husband and i come here when we want to hang out at the bar for a casual dinner and drink. our food has always been wonderful and the best part is that the bartender remembered us after our first visit. this makes a huge difference when you just want to go somewhere that's comfortable. we've tried everything from appetizers to salads to the burgers (my husband loves them) and we've never been disappointed. try it!! read more

Ok so I was told this is a great quiet place to enjoy some good wine with some good friends. We went on Thursday night and they had some band playing........the music was SOOOOO LOUD for such a small place! Not as cozy and inviting as I was hoping for. The wine was excellent, but had to wait a while to get it. It was jam packed inside we could barely move, and the place has no parking! Very disappointed since this area needs a nice, classy, quiet bar. With that being said, I do plan on giving it one more chance once the weather gets warmer.....stay tuned!! read more
