This gem is hidden away in the midst of a residential area. Definitely need GPS first time to get there. And even then we weren't sure if we were in the right place. Drove down driveway and look at that there is a parking lot. We went on a rainy night but I could still see a really large outdoor area with a full bar. We walk in, not sure if it's even the right door and into a charming cozy atmosphere. To the right is a nice size bar area semi separated from the dining room. Through the dining room to the left is a wine and gift shop. We didn't go in but it looked like it had a pretty impressive inventory. We were seated by our server Kylie who was as bubbly and friendly as could be. By the way, I was with my daughter who wanted us to go there to try their craft fall bourbon cocktails. Now being a bourbon guy I almost never put any other ingredients in my drink but..... So I ordered the banana smash old fashioned my daughter had the pumpkin spice bourbon martini. Much to my surprise I liked it. The martini was a little sweet for me but she liked it. I will say I was a little confused at the menu since it didn't seem to have an identity. At first I saw some Italian appetizers but also things like hummus. Dinners same thing from pasta and Italian dishes to paella, and an array of burgers and chicken sandwiches. She had the veggie burger and I had the grilled chicken, which we both tremendously enjoyed. Kylie and the young male that was taking care of us were outstanding. Our conclusion about the menu was they just wanted to please anyone and everyone and it looked like they were doing just that. The bill came and again not unreasonably priced. We were lucky since it was a Friday and never made reservations. But their website is equipped to all you to make reservations on it. All in all a successful night out with good drink food and service. The only thing lacking was poor WiFi reception but then again it was good to be unplugged. Do we plan on going back, ABSOLUTELY. Even with the GPS, it's easy to miss this place. In the middle of a residential section of Wanaque, Tree Tavern appears to be a restaurant masquerading as a house. There's a small bar on one side of the restaurant with some TVs for the local crowd. The place was busy on a Saturday night. We ordered takeout and I opted to go with the cavatelli with broccoli with shrimp. When we paid for the meal, the price we were charged didn't match that of the website. One of the managers showed us there were two menus on the website but was willing to honor the lower price. The meal was OK. There were a decent amount of shrimp and they were of good size. I didn't love the taste of the pasta. The bread that came with the meal was average at best. If I could give an honest review, this place would get 3.5 stars. We had high hopes as the outdoor seating is very nice. However, it took 30 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us after we were seated. Then after another 35 minutes the waitress asked for clarification on our order. No apologies for the wait and appetizer had not made an appearance either. We absolutely love this place, from the food, to the cozy atmosphere, to the friendly staff and excellent service. It's perfect whether you're here on a date, or for a meal with family or friends. If you don't want a full sit-down meal, you can always find a convivial gathering around the happenin' bar. The menu consists of popular Italian and American favorites like chicken, veal, pastas, salads, steak, seafood, burgers/sandwiches, and a well-rounded selection of appetizers. Nothing trendy but all extremely solid options and consummately prepared. You're greeted with a plate of warm bread and black olives when you sit down. The house wines are quite good and a gracious pour. (A wine shop attached to the restaurant is run by the same people.) The steak is perfection - flawlessly seared to my requested medium rare, and seasoned just right. I've also really enjoyed the fish and chicken dishes here. The tilapia is so tender. Even the sides are outstanding - I couldn't believe how good the sauteed spinach in the chicken saltimbocca was! And the fries are amazing - piping hot and crispy, and perfectly seasoned as well. We've also had the seafood paella which is full of seafood but more of a cioppino with its tomato-based broth than a true paella which has a dry texture, but is tasty nonetheless. We'll be back often to eat our way through the rest of the menu, I'm sure. A happy hour menu is offered from 4-6p on Tue/Wed/Thu. As mentioned, they have a great bar, and the changing seasonal cocktail offerings are delightful. The staff are warm and wonderful, and we were made to feel welcomed each time. Mike the owner came up to introduce himself the very first time we came here. You can tell they take care to know their customers, and seem to have a loyal local clientele (one of whom recommended the Tavern to us). Our meal was perfectly coursed - never rushed nor too slow. I noticed our server discreetly checking on us several times to make sure we were done with our appetizers before the entrees were brought out in impeccable timing. A small table lamp illuminates the menu without harshing the romantic mellow. The unobtrusive noise level means you can actually have a conversation without shouting across the table. These are details, but the sum of these parts differentiates a good restaurant experience from a great one. read more

Talk about unexpected. This TT is located in the middle of a residential area, so pay attention to the sign in front when you come for the first time. Came here for dinner where my wife had a small pizza with a salad. TT has their own frozen pizza that can be found in food markets all over. This pizza was very good and I don't think it was a frozen pie although it did have that look. I had a jalapeno burger with a salad... also very good. The mussels we started off with had an amazing sauce and would have almost made a meal in itself with a bit more bread... which too was excellent. But what made this place special (besides a nice bottle of Pinot Noir) was Laurie, who provided such excellent service... as well as making us feel welcomed in 'her' restaurant. Unexpectedly Surprised! Excellent! A hidden gem, and when I say hidden, it's definitely hidden. Way off the beaten path, in a residential area behind a house. When we pulled in we debated whether to try it or not. We decided to try it and we highly recommend this place. We sat in the outside seating area in the back. The service, food, ambiance and hospitality were all excellent. My wife had the crab, Mac n cheese, large portion and delicious. I had the filet minion sandwich, extremely tender and delicious. My friends and I spent a great evening at the Tree Tavern. They were very accommodating when I initially called for our group of 12 and when we walked in, they had our table waiting for us. They have a nice cocktail menu, and although the beer list was small, it had a little bit of everything. I know it's not easy to handle a large table,but our server was awesome. She handled us and all our questions easily. The menu is large and everyone seemed happy with their meals. The decor inside was really nice, and it is much larger than it appears from the outside. This place is a gem tucked away in a little neighborhood (truly we thought we were going to someone's house!). The food was FANTASTIC, the bartenders and staff were extremely helpful, and we felt right at home. This is actually my 5th time here and it just keeps getting better. The staff is awesome and very accommodating to any request. We wanted mussels for an appetizer but they only serve it as a full order over pasta. We asked for an appetizer portion not over pasta and they did just that for us. Boy am I glad they did. The mussel sauce is absolutely one of the best I have ever had. It's a must try if you go. Sandra had veal saltimbocca that was fantastic.
