I love Scheels. I like how they are organized that somehow makes shopping comfortable. The layout…read moreof the store is great, from clothing to camping to the cafe to hunting to toys. There is a great selection and variety. I mostly go for the toys. There is a specific toy that I seek and this is the place to find them. While their toy department is not huge and is just a relatively smaller department within the store, what they do have is quality stuff, things that people actually seek out. Lego sets, RCs, educational children's toys, games, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent selection of disc golf discs. They even had some of one of my favorite brands, Kastaplast! Either Kastaplast is finally getting some mainstream recognition or Scheels has a good sporting goods manager. Speaking of which, Ashton is a great guy and truly thinks of the customer first and the customer's experience. There were even Zuca disc golf carts there. And they were all on sale. Another aspect to love about Scheels are the things you can do there like mini bowling, shooting arcade, and the Ferris wheel. You can have a date there for cheap! And then go to the cafe for a meal or treats. BTW, the jerky they sell there is excellent! All the employees there are very helpful. In some small ways, Scheels is better than Bass Pro, Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse. In this competitive market, small ways is what stands you apart. I really like those other stores, too, but Scheels just feels different. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Sorry to do this but things are very different at Scheels than in the past…read more I spent 30 minutes in the Kuhl department and no one even offered help or bothered to say hello. (I had several questions) 10 minutes in golf department. Same story. 20 minutes in BBQ and the two guys there seemed more worried about the display looking great than offering help. I've always loved Scheels but I am very disappointed with the current lake of service or lack of. I hope things improve! (I only spent $250)

I have rented from Parks Sportsman for years when I go to ski in Utah, but after an incident the…read morelast time I went, when they were closed on Sunday (and we were headed out) I tried to find a location that wouldn't present me with that same problem (I was leaving on Monday and had my own equipment, but my friends, who needed to rent, were leaving Sunday). The Pro Shop at Sundance not only got my friends up and fitted and out the door within 20 minutes, on a busy Friday morning, but they also only charged them $100 for two days of rental for two people. Now, we had a group discount because of an even that weekend, but it was 10%, so call it $120 for rental for two days for two people...sounds like a deal to me. But isn't that always how it works? :-)

I've lived in Orem, Utah since 1987 and have been to this store less than 10 times. When I worked…read moreretail management (8 years), I used to teach the sales staff that as important as it was to make a good impression during a sale, it was more important to make an even better impression when something was being returned. That's where the staff at Park's finally turned me off of this store completely. The last time I was here was just before Father's Day, 2010. I bought a 4 person tent that was on sale. The sales staff was very helpful in assisting me with the purchase. However, when I took it back because of a defect, the assistant store manager who was on duty and took care of the exchange acted like he was doing me a huge favor and that I was imposing on his time. That left a bad taste in my mouth. That wasn't even the end. I took the new tent (WFS 732) camping and should have checked it out first before (like I did with the original tent) heading out with my sons. One of the shockcords was broken so I had to do a quick fix while we were at our campsite. After returning home, I had to go buy new elastic cord to fix the shockcord. About a month later, my son took it camping and the plastic zipper broke and so did the plastic hook that holds the rain cover to the tent. By this time, I had lost my receipt and knowing how they acted with my exchange when I had my receipt, I figure why even bother. To anyone from Park's who may end up reading this, know that you lost a customer when you blew it on the exchange. Take a lesson from the folks at Nordstrom.

A misleading ad about a ski package led me order it. The description was of skis and bindings and…read moreall the pictures showed the bindings mounted on the skis. There was one package price listed. I ordered them as such. I then received a shipping notification for the bindings with a separate price. I called immediately to cancel the order as I knew that having bindings mounted was not cheap. This was not what I budgeted for. I was told that everything was shipped, so the order could not be cancelled, but to call back when I received everything for an adjustment or to return the equipment. Btw, when ordering I was offered a 15% coupon, but then at checkout was told it didn't apply to my order. When I received the order, I checked with local ski shops and $100 was the lowest price I could find for mounting. I spent a half hour on the phone with a polite, understanding customer service rep inquiring about some type of credit. $25 was the offer. I pointed out how the ad was misleading, an offered coupon was not honored, and it would cost them more if I returned everything. I simply wanted at least half of the mounting cost reimbursed. The most frustrating aspect of this customer service interaction was that a supervisor will not get on the phone. The poor rep had to keep going back and forth. When she told me she could escalate the issue to a supervisor, I readily agreed, but she pointed out they would respond by email! THEY WILL NEVER GET ON THE PHONE AND SPEAK WITH SOMEONE!!! Sorry, that's horrible policy and I would discourage anyone from patronizing this business.

Beware when ordering ski boots as part of a package deal…read more Be sure of availability of sizes of ski boots with a package your purchase. I returned my boots and wanted to get the next size up. Since there were none available in my size, I received a refund (based on package pricing (about $80). If I want to get a larger size boot, I need to select another model/brand and pay the regular (non-package deal price), which means will need to spend approximately $200 more for a comparable boot, not including the $44 it cost to ship the first pair back. I do not recommend purchasing boots if you are not absolutely sure of the size you need. When I asked about the return, customer service said "We always recommend to go in and try different boots on before purchasing online". I was never given (nor saw online) this recommendation.
