This location is super stocked. Parking lot is a little tight. Employee members are very nice. Honorable. They were also handing out samples of the large mandarin oranges. Super juicy and sweet!

I was in L.A. and about to head back home to AZ and wanted to grab some food and snacks for the road. While passing through Pasadena, I came across Trader Joe's and realized that this store is their first location. I am a huge Trader Joe's fan and enjoyed being in the store that started it all. If you look at old photos, there is not a lot of difference in how the building looked back in 1967 and how it looks today. Other than the TJ logo on the sign is now its trademark red color. Trader Joe's now has close to 600 stores nationwide. The signature Hawaiian shirt that the employees wear has been a thing since their inception. Trader Joe's is named after its founder Joe Coulombe. This location opened on August 25, 1967. Trader Joe's is a neighborhood grocery store that sells all sorts of unconventional and interesting products. The customer service is always great here. You really can't go wrong with planning a dinner night on the fly with Trader Joe's. Even though I have my usual favorites that I like to pick up, I still feel my friends always find way cooler stuff at Trader Joe's than me. I love their seasonal items. They like to roll out the carpet for the holidays. If you like pumpkin everything products in the Fall, this is the place to go. The tiki theme at Trader Joe's is a lot of fun. I am a big fan of how environment friendly their products are. I make sure I bring in my Trader Joe's shopping bag every time that I stop by one. I follow a couple of Instagram accounts that give you ideas on what to shop for. I even have a cookbook with meal ideas that use only Trader Joe's products as the ingredients. You can make a pretty good charcuterie board using a variety of their affordable cheeses. Flowers and wine are good pick-ups too. Even though it is no longer $2, "Two Buck Chuck" is still a solid affordable wine. Check out the Fearless Flyer for food ideas and specials.

I dropped in while visiting the area. This is the first trader joes store, which was very cool to see. It was stocked well with plenty of alcoholic options--- more than just beer and wine. Service was great and I appreciated that they acknowledged it being the first store with a mural in the front. The parking lot was unusually tight, which we all know is a key feature of TJ, but it was extra small here.

On a Saturday morning in mid November, I came here to get a few items at 8:30am. Inside, it wasn't too busy since everyone is going to South Pasadena location. It has everything I looking for including the seasonal item, such as horseradish potatoes chips and sin frozen items. The line to pay was short and quick.

The is the Original Trader Joe's. The very first one, the OG, the one that started it all. I have written that I love Trader Joe's and it is my favorite grocery store, but have never been to the first one. I love all the touches Trader Joe's does to their stores and how it still feels like a local neighborhood grocer. The service here is excellent, this is the one the rest have followed and made them the chain they are today. Amazing choice of healthy food, new discoveries, wine, snacks, you can find it all here. I will address the parking, the lot is quite small, but they have overflow parking as well as some street parking, so yes, not great, but something you can work through. I found parking right away right in front on the street, no problem. Not enough of a deal to drop my five star rating, Trader Joe's is just to awesome. Come back and check out some history, they have been here since 1967, a staple of Pasadena. Enjoy!

The Original! You have to stop-in just to be able to see that. We love Trader Joe's, and will stop in any chance we get. Parking is a bit hard, and we ended up finding spots in the alley behind the store (we knew it was OK since a sign proclaiming it was only for TJ customer was prominent). That being said, it would be really difficult to bring a shopping cart to that area so would recommend parking there only if you can hand carry it. As for the store itself, it tended to be on the smaller side, but seemed to have all the necessary essentials and the checkout line was very short. We were going to be in (South) Pasadena late, so we couldn't buy anything that would perish without refrigeration. We picked up our favorite (elote seasoning), and will try two things that I haven't tried before (peri peri sauce and red wine vinegar). We were also looking for pizza sauce, but the only one sold is the fresh, needs-refrigeration type (very close to the fresh pizza dough, which is very good btw). As usual, prices are low and the associates were all kind and helpful.

This past weekend I was out with my daughters in Pasadena. We hit a few places and Trader Joe's was one of them. I did not know this TJ is the original original TJ. It was built in 1967... older than me by the chinny chin chin of X number of years LOL. Even though this TJ is 57 years old, it looks really good inside. Very bright and clean... just well maintained all around. Very well stocked in inventory. Love the wall art! I strolled around the store, took pictures along the way, and picked up some of my favorite items (TJ sparkling water, aloe vera juice, banana chips, corn chips, salsa) and some newly found items (peanut butter pretzel, spicy tempura seaweed snack) as well. I'm always up for new and exciting eats and drinks. Staff was fabulous and a joy to connect with for the moment... thank you sir for thinking outside the box in helping me pack my items... you know who you are! He made it very easy for me to transport the 15 TJ water from my cart to my car trunk. I enjoyed my visit very much. I even took some selfies with the beautiful art wall LOL. The only down side was the parking. It was really really tight. Not too many parking spots. I was lucky and got a spot upon arrival. Thank you TJ for the experience!

I really like this Trader Joe's location. They always have what I am looking for in stock. I love coming here for prepared and frozen meals, snacks and meat/cheese for whenever I crave a charcuterie board. I also buy boxes of chocolate and cookies here during the holiday season to give as Christmas presents. Their flowers are also fresh and affordable. There is never a long wait to pay. The parking lot is small, but there are also street parking available.

The name "King" is a homage to honor their father, who was known to be the king of fruit. Super King Market is best known for their produce, excellent quality and very affordable prices. The market itself is very international in which you can find Middle Eastern items, Hispanic items and also Asian grocery items as well. I really love Super King and so does my husband. After my husband had discovered the location in Claremont (I actually had shopped there before he did, many years ago), he just has this desire to visit the other locations. We have already visited the one in Glendale, which is my least favorite of the 3 that we have gone to so far. This location is cleaner and does seem to be bigger (but I prefer the set up and layout of the location in Claremont. The parking is way better than the other 2 locations that we have visited). Anyways, we came by this store on a Saturday and it was definitely busy. But not so busy that it felt crowded (but can't say that will be the same for you if you come on a weekend). The first selection I love to visit is their produce section. There is such a vast variety of different, good quality, vegetables and fruits. And what makes this section even better is the fact that the produce is so cheaply priced. A market like this really encourages you to choose healthier choices of fruits and vegetables (and also whole grains. The dried grains, rice + beans section is also very cheap, as compared to the typical American market like Von's, Ralph's, etc). I also love all the different types of breads that you can find on the other side of the store. The prices for whole wheat pita bread is very cheap too (and also the regular pita bread for those who don't appreciate whole grain foods and don't get enough fiber in their diet). Be aware that a lot of their fresh breads have a short shelf life so make sure you finish your bread before they go bad and have mold :( Customer service at the register was just whatever, but I don't come to this market expecting it to be stellar, so that doesn't bother me. The prices are great here, the selection of food items (in many different departments, not just the produce) is excellent and would come back to this location more often if I lived in the area.

We also shopped around for snacks couldn't resist the immaculate sushi section. Beautifully displayed and the best market sushi I have tasted. I love torched (yakumi) fish on nirigis and chose the salmon. So glad I did bc I wasn't even that hungry but gladly inhaled 3 pieces from Hubs' box. DD loves crispy rice and got the imitation crab salad with freshly sliced avocado on top. Loved it! Before we left for home, we made another stop here for their hot deli breakfast bar and coffee bar and more smoothies. Yes, yes, yes. My eggs, potatoes and bacon box was tastier and fresher then sit down restaurants. DD loved her croissant eggs and ham sandwich. My vanilla latte was bold and packed a punch. This second time around the smoothies were a bit on the sweeter side. Wish we had a location up North. Couldn't resist the tote in an ARMY green. Structured and well made in nylon with a firm base.

I heard that if you order the meat plates, it's a bit more reasonable. So that's what I tried on this visit. You would think you wait in the line in front of the counter but then I noticed people just walking up on the other end. So I did that and didn't have to wait. There should be signs or something. I was able to sample the items which was nice. I opted for the chicken curry which was the special with carrots who I heard was good. The sweet potato fries were also delicious. I love the seasoning. It's by weight, see my pics so it was $23.85. I really like their spicy tuna sushi sandwich which was $21ish. However, when I got some, it didn't look like tuna, It looked like cooked salmon. A little confused but what can you do. I'm not driving all the way up. :) Definitely an experience you should try. Just be prepared for the price. SYOY!

They also have non-spicy fish and shrimp ceviches. Thanks Scott for the free samples! I loved the citrus taste of the spicy shrimp and shrimp + avocado + mango! I think they need to make a spicy version of the latter or combine it with spicy shrimp. Just my 2 cents! I ended up with about half a pound of each ceviche flavor. After taking my first bite, I said to myself, "I should have gotten 1 to 2 lbs of each instead especially when it was on sale for $9.99 per lb." I won't make that same mistake next time LOL. During my visit, I was very impressed with the different sections of the store starting with La Cocina a La Panadería (Bakery) a La Verdulería (Produce) a La Pescadería (Seafood (ceviches made fresh daily is here)) a La Cremeria (Dairy). They even have the guacamole and aguas frescas made to order stations. How cool is that! Store was bright and clean. Aisles were organized and well stocked. Mexican food and groceries selections are massive. Lots of the foods are freshly made in-house daily. Prices are very reasonable. Another time, the pizza stand was completely empty and I saw numerous packaged pizza doughs that looked like they had been out and over proofing for wayy too long! It wasn't refrigerated, and when I asked what happened, they said the burner broke down. If that's the case , you need to refrigerate the dough or hire someone that cares enough to handle food properly there. The cashiers never smile, don't make eye contact, and never greet you. They all look miserable ALL THE TIME! One time a cashier filled up one of my bags with really heavy groceries then told me to put it in the cart. I tried to pick it up and almost got a hernia ,and so I told him it's too heavy and I can't pick it up, and he just ignored me. He didn't try to put it in the cart himself because even he couldn't (it was so heavy). He didn't have the common sense or decency to even try emptying some of it into another bag . He just stood there, said nothing. (I ended up doing that myself) I tried to cut some slack for these guys, and give them the benefit of the doubt, and I've never once been rude to anyone there (even when I felt I had every right) I still kept quiet. However, the consistency of the horrendous customer service skills is disgraceful and disgusting. Where are the managers? Who is on the hiring committee? Why aren't any of these people getting proper training? Where is quality control? It's sad that standards are so low at this location that you treat your long time loyal customers this bad. Truly a shame. If I was a health inspector, I'd be shutting down your pizza center first, then I'd fire every single cashier there and train proper human beings to work with human beings.
