I love TJ's and have been going there in different cities for many years. This store in Mesa is smaller and older. It is very crowded since it is the only one around the area. I am disappointed in their little produce selection. This store does takes alot of patience with all the retires and snowbirds shipping there. Great prices as always but I will only go there early mornings or late evenings from now on. Bring your list so you can get in and out. I saw something at my latest visit to Joe's that made my heart sink. The storefront right next to this store that used to be an arts-crafts-hobby store is being remodeled into a Sprout's. How will a Trader Joe's and Sprouts do as neighbors? I think TJ's will most likely not survive. I will not go to Sprouts since they sell the same wax coated veggies you buy at Food City, and I've purchased meats at Sprouts that could not be used, once they got home and opened, almost the entire side of a cut of meat was a shiny sheet of gristle. Sprouts ripped me off for the last time but I think they'll run TJ's out of business as neighbors. I learned something about Trader Joe's: The frozen food truck arrives late in the morning. If there is something you need from that aisle that is important for you to go home with, consider waiting until after 1pm before you go there, gives them time to stock the freezer display units. I like Trader Joe's. It seems to be optimized to manipulate women into impulse buys with chocolate and other sugary goodies all over the store and stacked high at the check-outs. I do like their selection of veggies, meats, and wines. I just wish the overall grocery selection was bigger. Being a regular here forces me to also be a regular at Fry's to buy all the stuff TJ's doesn't carry. From my experience as a 10 year customer of a few different TJ stores, if you buy organic veggies at Fry's and something similar at TJ, the stuff at TJ will be the first to start to spoil by many days. I prefer to buy most veggies at other stores than TJ due to this problem. FYI, if you like their Charles Shaw brand of wines, they're made by Bronco Wine Company in the central valleys of north-central California. There's a nice article on Wikipedia about that company. I love the cheese assortment at Trader Joe's. I love trying new stuff here. I just picked up some cheese, ham, peach salsa, spicy hummus and pasta. Doesn't that sound like a yummy meal? :p It drives me nuts how busy this place is. I would love to come here just once and have this place to myself. This TJ's needs to replace the lady who was serving the strawberry short bread dessert on 5/24. This TJ's has always had exceptional staff members that are friendly and very helpful which is why we drive over 10+ miles every other week for our TJ's purchases. So if you are serving a dessert with organic strawberries, whipped cream and short bread to anyone and a 13 year kid comes up ....... and TJ's has an issue with allergies etc. just say, "Sorry, we need a parent", instead of smacking a kids hand away from the sample and then saying "if you fall from allergies, I am not going to help you". The staff here always been so helpful, fun and friendly so why would you put a person like that at a sampling station who would say something so unnecessary. Trader Joe's is on my top 5 list of places to shop (and it's the only grocery store). Their store is unassuming and right-sized (not humongous like some of the big chains). Their product offering is usually delicious and made with wholesome ingredients - preservatives and additives are kept to a minimum if at all. And if you need an organic product, chances are they have it. ALL their milk is hormone-free and usually only about $2 a gallon. Oh, and they've been implementing BYOB (bring your own bag) since years before any of those big chains caught on. Since my discovering them about 2 years ago, I have a "TJ's favorites" list which I won't bore you with right now. However know that this is the ONLY place in Phoenix that has a large selection of imported wines. Like the big chains they carry wines from Australia, France and Sonoma, but you'll also find whole sections from Chile, Argentina, Spain and my personal favorite, Italy. Oh, and did I mention that most of them are under 10 bucks? In fact my favorite Italian is only $5.99! Speaking of Italy, check out the frozen section for their Margherita pizza (actually made & baked in Italy, then frozen and imported). Jar pasta sauces are fabulous (I recommend the Rustico), and pasta is cheap and good! They have a dry cheese tortellini that feeds a crowd of 8-10 for under $3 a package. Obviously I could go on and on, but you can see for yourself. You absolutely MUST go TODAY! read more

This review isn't about Trader Joe's as an entire company, only this location. I love many of their private label items so I'm at this location at least once a week even though it's 8 miles from my house. What really bugs me about this store is that I see something in the dairy section that is out of code every single time I go there. Once I pointed out to an employee that some yogurt on the shelf had expired two days ago, and he reacted as if I insulted him personally. For the cashiers, the customer service is about 50/50. There are a few unfriendly folks with a bit of attitude, but there are plently who go out of their way to strike up a conversation and are very helpful. read more

Ahhh TJ's, what's on the shopping list: uncured bacon, really good cheese, cashews, walnuts, stir-fry veggies, collard greens in a bag, sweet potato fries, organic coffee, organic frozen berries, the dark chocolate salty almonds, and the almond butter with sesame seeds.... I have been going to this Trader Joes for over 15 years. The staff have been amazing, but it is the corporate BS that is really upsetting. Not only do they make their employees suffocate behind face masks (which do nothing to protect people from viruses) they have now ON THE WEEK ARIZONA FINISHED THE LOCKDOWN- decided to put up Nazi Covid rules banners and limit the amount of people in the store to about a dozen. They are now forcing customers who want to shop there to wait in line in the Arizona heat. Thus is beyond stupid as people like me have been spending lot's of $$$$ there keeping them afloat during this planneddemic. They already have a special time for seniors and now this, so triggering!!!!! read more

Trader Joe's is unbeatable for price, taste, variety, and healthy options. I love TJ's so much that I drive nearly 45 minutes from southeast Gilbert about once a month for my fix -- they have such unique items that I just can't find anywhere else. Produce and salads are always fresh, their cheese selection is out of this world, and I especially love their frozen entree and side dish selections -- like roasted balsamic vegetables, Korean veggie pancakes, stuffed mushrooms, chicken Tikka Masala, etc., all with healthy, wholesome ingredients and so reasonably priced. And the little treats, cookies, chocolate, and seasonal items are too good for words. The employees are super friendly, too, and although the small store can get crowded, the lines seem to move pretty efficiently. I was somewhat dismayed to see a Sprouts move in literally right next door, because Trader Joe's is by far the superior choice for healthy shopping, and you'll spend half as much as you would at Sprouts. I do wish a Trader Joe's would open somewhere closer to home in the south Gilbert/ Queen Creek area, because I would be there all the time instead of just once a month. The way a grocery store should be! Trader Joe's is really the only grocery store I like to go to these days. Trader Joe's in general does a great job at bringing healthy options to they customers. What I love about this location is that the Gilbert Farmers Market is just down the street. So I usually get what I can at the Market and then finish my shopping at this Trader Joe's. The customer service has always been great as well! The employees actually know the answers to my questions, are always friendly and even have a joke or two up their sleeves. One of my favorite things here is the 'Nothing but Bananas Flattened'. If you like bananas, you will love this! Cheap, all natural and a great night snack for when you feel the need for a treat. read more

Consistently good customer service on any returns. Tremendous diversity of staff--reminds me of my Berkeley days. The sample chefs are engaging, fun and have a great variety of recipes. Great selection of food and beverage products. Love the cashew, almond and chocolate trail-mix bags. Steel-cut oatmeal is a winner! Downside: very narrow shopping aisles and congested at times, especially the kids with their shopping carts. read more

The store is very small and it feels really crammed. I have been to lots of other locations and this one is by far one of the smaller locations. Trader joes always has the freshest you can get. If you're a health nut then you will love this store. Its not as hectic as your standard grocery store and the chocolate covered jojos are to die for! It is mostly organic so as you can imagine it is more pricy than your average grocery, but if you're in need of fine food it's a wonderful place to go. Trader Joe's is an oddity and I think that's why I like it. They carry all those crazy organic and specialty things you can't find anywhere else. They are a little bit pricier but you know that coming into the mix. Get down to Trader Joe's to buy some fresh flowers, veggie chips, kick butt artichoke dip & other gems. The 4 stars is because I do t like their pandering to the 'organic' market. Every where I look is something organic. This store gives off a very odd vibe. (Baseline and Gilbert road store) While I seldom shop there, the staff has always made me feel strangely uncomfortable shopping here. This fact, combined with their artificial "politeness ", leads me to understand that while the surrounding area is fairly cosmopolitan, I have rarely if ever see anyone other than the average "Anglo" shopping there. On a previous visit in June, as I was being checked out, a female clerk suddenly emerged from an upper are in front of the store, grabbed a small bottle of tea tree oil from my cart and shrieked at the top of her lungs, "Tea tree oil! I didn't know we had that", (mind you there was a huge display about 6 feet away from her. I must say she scared me to death. I thought she might have some kind of mental/emotional issue. Today, as I was checking out yet another issue. I had selected a melon from a small pile of various melons from a shelf stating the price of $1.99 each. The male clerk informed me that this was not the price and volunteered to check the price on the shelf to make sure. When he returned he stated that there were no other melons like this and no price was listed for such melons and that the cost of the melon was to be $2.50. When I asked how this came to be on the shelf marked $1.99, he stated that a customer had probably placed it there (but from where?, since there was no display or price for such melons). Why this arbitrary price increase for just me ?. Needless to say, I now understand why the monochromatic clientele. Has the staff be instructed to discourage or make it difficult for others to comfortably shop here? One has to wonder. In any event, the average to so-so quality and quantity of their products and service definitely does not merit another dollar, or visit. read more

Trader Joe's is one of my favorite places to shop for groceries. First of all it is a Health Food Store that is totally affordable ( unlike Whole Foods). The staff is super knowledgable. Whenever I look for any supplement I just ask one of the gals there and there know exactly what I am talking about. Also they do a great job on keeping your kids entertained while shopping. One time they had my son look for a stuffed animal that was hidden in the store. When he found it he was awarded a sticker. Needless to say he always wants to go there now! read more

Could this place be anymore crowded? I can't get down the aisles, due to crowding of staff, other customers running into me. One gigantic cluster fudge. I did end up buying Kale for my greek tortoise but that is everywhere so I won't be returning. Even then there is no order to checking out. Every time I go to Trader Joe's I wonder why I don't shop here more! I love so many of their items. The most recent visit I picked up some lavender and planted it on the patio and it smells amazing. I really like their prepared salads and while they are a little pricey, they are worth it to not have to do the work and just grab to go. Any time I'm looking to move somewhere, one of the first questions I ask myself is: "Does Trader Joe's have a location nearby?" Love this store. Do 3/4 of my shopping there, easy. I like the small size. And their liquor/wine/beer price + selection ratio usually can't be beat. Except for this location. Not sure if being in "Mormon-town" Mesa has anything to do with, or not, but the selection is less extensive compared to other Trader Joe's I've been to. Regardless, I'll never forget this party I was at in LA, years ago, where I met this guy who was a beverage distributor. I was raving about Trader Joes and he just started shaking his head. I asked what's wrong and all he said was "Man, those guys beat me up on price so bad, I won't even deal with them anymore." So there you have it. Trader's Joes beats the stuffing out of the evil distributor middle-man and passes the saving on to you. I've always been a fan of Trader Joe's, it was love at first salad bite! They've got a great selection of salads, sandwiches, and even soba (Japanese noodles) on the go. Its a great alternative to shopping out for a salad. My current days have been comprised of heading to Trader Joe's for some Thai Peanut Noodle Salad, Japanese Soba Noodles, or their other pics of salad. Their Indian side curries aren't bad either. On some days they'll have wine tastings or burger tastings. I always love coming here! Wasabi Mayonnaise, Yellow Nectarines... all such healthy and delicious food options! I am not usually the Trader Joes kinda gal, with four kids I usually shop in pretty large quantities but lately I can't seem to stay away.... from the wine section. No but really, it is now my favorite store to grab what I need for dinner, along with a bottle of wine and fresh flowers! Often I find what I am looking for but sometimes they don't carry some of the items I need. If you need a special item I would suggest calling to see if they have it before heading there. My kids like the little shopping carts that are perfect for them and they LOVE finding the lizard, when they find her they get a prize out of the treasure box! The staff is always kind and helpful. We recently discovered my son has allergies for pretty much everything. Before now, we were "extremely lucky" to have hypoallergenic formula when he was an infant but now he is hitting one year he needs to start eating foods that are soy free, dairy free, egg free, and but free. As you can imagine, there are few foods he can actually eat besides some fruits and vegetables (steamed). So we relied on trader joes...went in and we approached a crew member for advice. She showed us all the great allergy free foods and had meal advice as well! She was awesome and come to find out, she has a kid with the same allergy problems as my son. I will be coming back here for a long time! read more

Love Trader Joe's! I always come to this location (at least once a week), and I have never been disappointed by the selection and quality. Return policy is great if you ever get food that spoiled too quickly, etc. Staff is always super friendly and has a genuine interest in helping others. When checking out the cashiers are personable and you can have a genuine conversation with them. This is a little smaller of a location, but they still have the necessities. Very wholesome food, really good prices (usually cheaper and better quality than a grocery store), and they have a wonderful selection. They usually have samples of stuff in the back, and for a dinner idea just browse around or even ask one of the associates for ideas! I very much recommend this location and recommend supporting Trader Joe's as a company. read more
