I want to start this review by thanking Michael at the Patio Grill and Nikohl in the bakery. Both are tremendous employees who provided friendly, attentive service and helped make our visit a great experience. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, and it was absolutely delicious. The burger was large, flavorful, and made with quality ingredients. Considering the generous portion size, the price was very reasonable and offered excellent value. I'm also a big fan of fresh-brewed tea, and it did not disappoint. It was fresh, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the meal. One of the highlights of the restaurant is the large shaded patio. Even on warmer days, the misting system helps keep the space comfortable, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy your meal outdoors. Today we came to AJ's to try a freshly brewed teas that I've heard so much about. The inside of the store was so whelming and full of items. It was nice to browse while waiting for my number to be called to order my tea. I was so tempted by all of the fun drinks that they have on the menu, but I stuck to what I came in for the decaf flavored teas. Today I went with a blueberry lavender and it is so delicious and such a pretty color. I also love how great of a deal it is for a 32 ounce large tea. The staff was also very friendly, and they were also working very hard to help every customer who was trying to get a bakery item or drink. I also love the outside patio area with a very pretty fountain and seating area. I will definitely be back for more tea in the future. read more

I've always enjoyed lunches at AJ's as they have a lot of variety of food from their outdoor grill selection to daily specials, pizzas, soups, sushi and more. During lunch hours they have a great salad bar. The food is good but can be slightly pricy depending what you select. It's a great place for those who may want different fare to get their meals and meet on the patio to enjoy the beautiful Arizona weather! I also love their variety of green and black teas and other drinks. Their tea hits the spot on the hot days and their refills are only $1! The few items I've sampled from the boulangerie have been good (those pesky lemon bars are always calling my name). Service can be hit and miss...the workers are friendly but they can be tied up on orders. There's checkouts up front, in the boulangerie and in the back by the pizza/sandwich station so if one's busy you can try another. Besides the lunch and snacks...there's more...like an entire store! They carry quite a few specialty items other standard grocery chains may not carry. They also have great cuts of meat and seafood back at the butcher counter. I went in here because it was close to me and I simply needed some hamburger buns. But this place never disappoints. It's always so clean and the atmosphere is always so relaxed and friendly. I use to shop at AJ's a lot more because I knew I was getting higher quality. I really should start going back more often. High end products mixed in with some budget minded things as well. That said, you'll need to catch them on sale; otherwise, the prices are steep. The burger and steak sandwich on the patio offers a solid experience, but today we tried the pizza, and it was disappointing -- so greasy it had us heading straight to the gym for a second workout to shake off the guilt! Sushi here is okay, but nothing extraordinary. Overall, AJ's is a cool spot with unique products and gourmet vibes, but the high prices make it more of an occasional splurge than a regular go-to. About 2:20 p.m. on Friday. Went to AJ sushi place to order a Monday Special roll which is a specialty roll. It has spicy crab, avocado and cucumber inside the roll and it's topped with 3 slices of salmon which should cover the top pretty well. It took the 2 sushi guys a couple of minutes before one (Joe) paid attention to me. The other guy was washing dishes. I asked if they could make the Monday special roll for me and Joe went to the dishwasher and asked him to make it. Meanwhile, I had to go to another register as I was buying soup and when I returned to the sushi, no one bothered telling me that the order was ready. There were two other customers sitting at the bar and they were already served. So I had to ask if this was my order. They said yes. Then I had to ask if I can pay there. They said yes. Zero customer service at AJ Sushi bar. These are complete amateurs that need serious training. And now, about the sushi roll I got. The sushi roll was full of rice, very thick on rice, the avocado in the middle was barely visible or missing. The salmon on top looked uneven and made of left over cuts. The spicy crab was so spicy beyond unpleasant. This was the worst roll I've ever had and the worst customer service. Something is seriously wrong with this place. me and my friend were going to the bathroom and locked the door as it was only a two stall bathroom, we were in there for 2 mins AT LEAST and some lady wearing pink banged on the door FBI STYLE, I opened the door immediately and i asked if we are not allowed to lock the door and I'm very sorry she lied and said there was some older lady who needed to use the restroom, keep in mind we were already in the stalls and also had to use the restroom and were in there for 2 MINS. we wash our hands and get out and there is NO OLDER LADY there. Very disappointed in the way AJ's handles long standing customers. Last Friday I fell in a large amount of soup which wasn't mopped up in front of the bakery. My new handbag and outfit are ruined and have a sprained wrist. I've contacted the store manager numerous times and have been told "someone will reach out to me". One week later and zero communication which states this business doesn't take their clientele nor injuries serious. Shop at AJ's and put your body and health at risk. They have so many flavors and you can get it up to 32 ounces and the ice is so good. I've visited their location here twice and also their store in Chandler. They have different locations here in Arizona. Their boulangerie/bakery section is my absolute weakness. They have so many delights, delectable cakes and pastries, freshly baked breads, decadent desserts to choose from. My eyes and taste buds are feasting that I want to try everything. Cheesecake is my ultimate favorite. It's the first thing that I look for and AJ's never disappoints me. I also have my other all-time favorite--the sticky buns. During the holidays, I couldn't resist buying their fruit cake squares in dark and white chocolate as well as their raspberry dark chocolate cake. I also made sure to grab a variety of their cookies. The White Chocolate Macadamia is my new personal favorite. Although I haven't yet tried their gourmet delights at the bistro section, I'm definitely planning to. From their fresh produce to a wide selection of artisanal drinks, cheese, charcuterie, and a collection of wines, beers, and spirits, AJ's is truly a haven for food lovers. We order iced teas all the time at the deli counter and usually it's a great experience, the wait is long but worth it and typically the service is pretty good. This time the lady was incredibly rude, and impatient. She walked away mid order so all I got out of my mouth was "large iced passion tea" and she was gone rolling her eyes. I wasn't gonna yell what I wanted across the counter so I waited and she comes back all annoyed saying she was out of that tea - which is fine I ordered something else and then got out that I wanted raspberry syrup before she walked away while the word raspberry was coming outta my mouth. Then when she brings the teas over I say "I actually wanted lemonade and coconut as well" and she brings me a whole other drink just lemonade with coconut. We decided to cut our losses and try and mix them outside to make a drinkable mix similar to what we wanted and it was nasty so I came back in, grabbed the other employee who was so sweet and helped me get a new drink I actually liked. The rude employee was older with glasses and a ponytail, and if she's so sick of working she needs to quit because being rude to every guest like that just leads to a bad store image. The helpful friendly employee was the young girl, made our new drinks really delish and actually listened to the whole order. My husband and I are usually here just for their lemonade. The sizes are GENEROUS here and you can't really beat the value. I'm not a lemonade girlie but here, they are so good and refreshing. I also love their chocolate croissants they bake here - its the caramelized chocolate that melts out of the pastry - SO GOOD. They offer a "patio bbq" with burgers and sandwiches on the patio...the food is quite good, however the patio is poorly maintained and not very clean and the one guy making the patio food has a major tude and acts like you are an incovenience. Their bakery charges $8-$10 for small pastries and cakes and the people behind the counter couldn't be bothered to offer a simple greeting and just seem apathetic and overwhelmed...we opted for dessert at a small local bakery instead. read more

Pretty delicious cakes are sold here. A little too sweet for me. I saw some other cakes that I want to try in the future. The fruit tart looked good. Pretty fast service. In general sites are getting busy these days. Might be better to live further from the city center or maybe in a less populated state. The items are overpriced, but I'm OK with that when the quality is there. I've bought enough steaks, fish, and more over the years to create a lot of great grilling memories. I do have one minor complaint, though -- the pizza. I have a bad addiction to what I call the "heart attack on a slice" (the meat combination one). I'm sure I need to drink a gallon of water and ride my bike 75 miles just to recover from the damage it could do to my arteries. But I won't deduct points for that -- it's my choice! One slice every few weeks may not be good for me, but it makes me smile. And it's always worth the visit. I love the bakery -- especially for relatives' birthdays -- and the iced tea as well. One other note: in the decade plus that I've been stopping here, I've never once heard a worker gripe or complain when I was around. I have been a regular at Aj's since I moved to the valley in 2014. This is the second time at this location I have left with not a very good experience. I will start with all the positive first!! The squad of ladies at the bakery are so impressive they do an amazing job!! The gentleman at butcher counter always give top notch service . Now the not so good part, the shelves were really bare in all the isles. The grille area was a total disaster !! Really one person working the grille area on Saturday !!!! There was a massive line people fighting . We asked the lady if she wanted us to ask for help for her . She seemed really taken back but she was messing up everyone's food !! We paid $63.00 for 5 sandwiches all burgers where brunt and missing bacon . The hot dog was burnt we went to get our sides and she was super rude . We ordered combos and were treated like we took stuff !!!!!!!! We did not have the bacon on our burgers and she said oh I forgot do you want it we said no because she was slammed . I am sorry but this location really needs management to step in and get things in order !!! We waited 45 minutes for food we could not eat !! read more

I've shopped at this store now four times. I'm always looking for foods that are palm oil, free, and just like any other store. It's hard to find even at AJ's . One of the things I've noticed is the prices are so much higher than any other healthy food store and not all the foods are healthy. The worst thing is I bought frozen cod fillets. They looked thick about an inch maybe a little thicker so I bought two and if I'm remember correctly, they were 25 $26 for two fillets. My idea was to cut them in half and get four meals. I pulled one out to thaw out, put it on a plate. The amount of water that came out was exorbitant. It wasn't fully thawed so I put it in the refrigerator when I pulled the plate out again there was just as much water if not more and the filet was no longer an inch and a quarter thick it was more like a half inch. I ended up having to eat the whole fillet so I believe that these cod fillets are being pumped with water and so we're paying high dollar for fish when we're actually getting half water. The buyers should know this all Food should be tested. I won't shop there again. read more
