The women in the bakery dept at ocotillo and ironwood are amazing bakers. Look at the decoration as well. Will definitely go back. This was a qtr sheet cake, and should have ordered half sheet cake, because it was gobbled up. Price was about $35 and then I added a couple extras. Store is clean and new. However, I'm not sure who does the stock ordering here. They are constantly out of things and it's incredibly frustrating to have to go to multiple stores to be able to furnish one meal. Great place to shop if you like paying high prices. Even better is the fact that at times, you literally cannot get out of the parking lot. Whoever decided to put this shopping center so close to the busiest intersection in the area needs to have their head examined! This is probably one of the biggest Safeway's I have ever seen. There is of course the required Starbucks inside, but they also have a huge deli, seating area and tons of freshly prepared food you can grab to eat there on your lunch break. It's very clean, abundantly staffed and well organized. It's probably one of my favorite grocery stores in the valley. read more

While on the expensive side, this Safeway location has been an early adopter of Covid precautions that has set the bar for their patrons and competitors. Masks mandated and enforced. A cart cleaning station. Plexiglass and plastic coverings over the ATM pads at all checkout stations. Easy access to hand sanitizer, aisle direction flows and signage reminding others of importance to socially distance. Well done Safeway. Wine selection is great and the wine buyer is usually around and always willing to help give suggestions on what to buy. Meat is quality and butcher counter is always helpful! Deli offers Boarshead meats, the best. The store is always clean and clutter free. Employees are really nice and willing to help when needed. Make sure to signup for their food club to get beat prices and have access to digital coupons. Like I said to open, Safeway always has carried a premium price. A comparable cart to say Fry's would be 20%-30% more. I usually come for quick items, liquor, and meat or produce. All have great selections and higher quality. read more

As much as I like this store, today was different than most. Our cashier Leann, who had the personality of wet noodle never engaged in conversation, never cracked a smile and I don't think she ever even looked at us. She rang up our order and barely said thank you. Thought about giving her 2 stars but my husband said she wasn't that bad. Our cashier Elena was incredibly helpful and patient and accommodating! She was friendly and smiling and made sure we got the discounts that were being advertised. Our app wasn't working with the wifi situation so we couldn't get our digital coupons to work. She made sure we got all of our discounts and she was so SMOOTH. I like shopping at this Safeway because it's close, convenient, and never a long checkout wait. Theres always a nice assortment of products, and everything seems fresh. I love the deli area!! Always something yummy, and new to try!! The bakery is delicious and filled with beautifully decorated sweets, and fresh, and delicious baked goods. Tje customer service is always super friendly, and theres always someone around to ask yo if you are finding everything ok. The only downside is it seems like most the cashiers throw your items on the circulating conveyor belt to be bagged. read more

This store is a joke. Don't try to use the Safeway, just for u, app and think you're getting the coupon price. On numerous occasions I have had to stand at the counter and ensure credit was given as the cashier took out her calculator to deduct charges. Twice, the total has been nearly $10. I took their survey and asked for a supervisor to phone me to clarify why this continues to happen. Weeks later, I still await the call. I'm beginning to think Safeway does this on purpose in hopes the customer doesn't notice their mistake. Head to Fry's, drive to Costco, this Safeway isn't worth the trip. read more

The store manager will only allow 3 staff members at any given time in the pharmacy. Unfortunately this does not allow for the staff to handle the volume at this store. About 99% of the time the pharmacy drive through is CLOSED. There is a possibility that the store manager is more concerned about his bonuses than give people at Safeway the help that they need. So disappointed in Safeway today - they have lost my business. I have a large family that drinks a lot of milk - that I buy here at Safeway. Today I returned 15 of the Dairy glass bottles. The cashier was so unprofessional in the return process questioning why I had so many bottles - then made me wait 10 minutes to return the reusable grocery bags I had brought them in. The manager overhead this dialogue and just shrugged his shoulders. I understand being shorted staffed and I understand being frustrated but, to be unprofessional about a service your store provides is ridiculous. Goodbye Safeway. I have so many issues with this place I don't know where to start. I guess I'll start with the most important. I went to this location because it's the closest one to me. I went to get beef. When I got to the meat section I looked at the beef and as always the expiration date. I realized that every single one was at least 5 days past the expiration date. I went to go tell someone. There were two people behind the glass where the meat butchers work and they are both just standing there talking and staring at me for a few minutes so I leave. When I leave, the lady comes out and asks what I need. I explained to her the situation and she told me that it was impossible and wrong. I showed her all the dates and she looked at me as if I was stupid and said, "umm you're looking at the wrong date" and I replied "ummm this specifically says that it expired 5 days ago" she looked at the date and ran back with EVERY MEAT i just handed her. Came out with a box of new meat and didn't apologize or say anything. I ended up calling the store manager so that they would be aware and he treated me as if I was calling to GET SOMETHING FREE?!?!? LOL Then I go in with the monopoly coupons for instant winners and bought some groceries and flowers for my mom. I get up to the register and ask if all the coupons went through because the total was high and he looked at me and said "your total is high because you bought $20 worth of cigarettes" (in a nasty tone) - which I thought was so rude because I bought them for my grandpa and he was making me feel bad for buying them... & it's was $13.20 not $20... just a rude way of explaining my high total. & Was very judgmental - not even for me but even if it was, I shouldn't feel bad, my body, my life, my decisions. THEN, I look at my receipt and he didn't scan 4 of my instant winners.. lol what a joke. I didn't even take time to go back. They just won't have my service anymore. The people here don't want to hear that they are wrong, everyone is super defensive. There is also this creepy lady who works there. She knows I'm in a relationship and she constantly makes my girlfriend and I feel uncomfortable.. she asked us where we lived?? In what world is that okay? I gave her main crossroads but she looked unsatisfied and was wanting a more specific location. Five stars for the meat counter guy who actually went and checked the ad early to see if the Ribs are going to go on sale next week or not... Zero stars for the rude cashier who did not utter one word the entire time I rang my order up, when I asked her a yes or no question she just shook her head up and down.... it was the strangest experience I've ever had at a grocery store where the person doesn't say a word to you....the only person who said anything was the bag boy who said "thank you" as I walked away....I went over to the courtesy counter to cash my scratcher and asked if the ribs went on sale if I could bring them back and have the price adjusted... to which she replied "we do not do that "so I return the ribs... When I let the manager on duty know that the employee didn't say a word to me at all and that I had worked with Safeway corporate for years and I know that's not how they work....she just said " Well, maybe she's shy". Again a very weird experience at Safeway tonight I appreciate the meat counter guy going above and beyond and being extremely friendly however the cashier that rang me up did not utter one word whatsoever... super super strange! read more

I placed an order online for pick up. My email came through and half the groceries I had ordered were missing. I called the store and talked to pick up, they confirmed they only had this small order. They gave me a number for customer service, The girl was helpful. I cancelled my order with them. What is the point in having half an order. I would never do an order with them again. I had always wondered why there were never any pick up orders. This is the San Tan Valley Safeway on Ocotillo. I went and did my shop at the Safeway on Power and Queen Creek in Queen Creek. I will not use the shop on Ocotillo again they were not customer friendly when answering my questions. read more

If I could give the Pharmacy a negative 0 rating I would. My daughter and I have transferred our prescriptions to the Safeway pharmacy with no issues. Another family member transferred their prescription and we were told they would get a $75.00 gift card. When it came time to get the gift card after the 1st refill they all of a sudden said they did not qualify due to having a Medicare advantage plan. This was never discussed when the prescriptions were transferred to Safeway pharmacy. They are using deceptive practices to get you to transfer your prescriptions. They knew when the transfer was made they had a Medicare Advantage plan, but said nothing that you would not qualify for gift card. That was the first incident the I went to pick up my prescriptions and the female cashier at the drive through must of picked up 6 - 8 bags of customers prescriptions taking them to computer. Due to her appearing to be untrained and taking will over 15 minutes to find 2 prescriptions I was afraid I would not get the correct medication. She was very rude. A couple days later I called the pharmacy to see if all my prescriptions were ready as I only received a text about one. A person named Evelyn rudely told me if I wasn't there by 6 PM she was putting them back and then hung up the phone. I have never been treated like this by any pharmacy. I am as my other family member are moving our prescriptions to another retailer. This also means I have no reason to grocery shop there I can't stand when businesses are deceptive this tells me they can't be trusted and when your dealing with medication that's critical. read more

I am extremely glad that a Safeway came to this area, I always enjoy the vibe of these stores. After making a late night decision to bake some cookies for my family, I realized we had no more sprinkles. Having only been to this location once before, I had no idea where the baking items were. But then, an employee pointed me in the right direction as soon as I looked lost. Once I made it to the cash register, a young, friendly cashier smiled and struck up a small conversation with me, all around 10 minutes before closing. Employees typically complain about people coming in close to closing times, but this one kept a smile and remained friendly. Glad to see this location is doing well! read more

Very, very disappointed with the meat department. I asked the butcher to give me a flat cut brisket from the whole brisket they had. I told him I didn't want all the fat. When I got it home and flipped it over I realized he didn't cut any of the fat off the part I couldn't see. I am sorry but for $5.99/lb I absolutely didn't want to pay for fat.
