Good variety and some good prices. Unfortunately, as I went to check out, a man was condescendingly correcting the clerk in the aisle I chose. I waited, and instead of finishing, he began to repeat himself. The young cashier was humbly listening. I finally asked her if he was mansplaining? She shyly admitted 'yes'. I asked his name and he told old me 'I don't work here'. No name tag, unprofessional and denying he worked there. I reminded him that a talk should be one on one... not in front of customers. I was so excited when Smart & Final moved into this spot after both Albertsons and Fresh & Easy (remember them?) failed here; it's nice to have another grocery store here, as well as a mini-Costco (meaning you can often buy in bulk) that doesn't require memberships, but it has been wanting for more since the day they opened. The produce has never been very impressive -- think along the lines of El Super -- other than the variety they offer, but similar to El Super, they often just try to get by with one lane open, which causes lines to go down into the food aisles; customers are similar to Sprouts, meaning, they may have a cart full of stuff, see you with one item, and still not offer for you to go ahead of them, so there are rarely quick errands here, ever. There's also one older cashier -- bless his heart -- who repeatedly wears a face mask, but loosely, and below his nose; I always want to tell him that there's no point in wearing it then, but he's the only consistent employee there, and I don't want to come off like a jerk. Out of all the very unfortunate things that came out of Covid, they used to have a loose bulk food area that included things like oats, spices, flours, snacks, candies, you name it...and ever since they lost that area, they've lost more of the appeal; I know they didn't ask for a worldwide pandemic (who did?), but the store hasn't been the same ever since its' removal. Add in the Entrance door that's locked more than it's opened and the odd smell when you near the front of the store, and you're reminded how much pride you're swallowing every time you shop here...the things we do for convenience and to save a dollar, right? :-/ read more

Check your receipts. Prices are often not the same on the shelf as they are at the register. "Manager" says company policy allows him to offer only one mispriced item. Okay, I make the effort to travel to Gilbert (10 mile trip for me) because my Mesa location shut down years ago. That's how long I've supported Smart and Final. I am a regular customer, and we usually get great customer service. We have never had any complaints in the two years we have been shopping at this location. We went shopping today, and a cashier named Leticia was very disrespectful not to just us but a couple In front of us as well. I did call and talked with Julie the night lead and she was very kind and let me know how sorry she was for our experience today. I would say that this store is not that competitive on prices compared to other grocery stores and the help is limited when you can find someone who works there. Apples, dry goods, beef jerky, kombucha, and honey for example are the same price is\f not more expensive than your average store. I think the biggest appeal for me is that they have certain brands that can be more difficult to source at other stores. Lots of parking is definitely a plus. read more

My total was 187.00$ Smart & Final charged me 187.00 then went in and charged me 227.00 the next day. They took over 400 dollars from me, and said they always do this because they don't place holds on the funds?? Doesn't make sense what so ever. A love letter to Smart & Final in a time of Covid: Dear Smart & Final Peeps - I wish I had more than 5 stars to give you. Instead, I'll give you all my grocery moneys and my thanks for your superior produce selection and diligent kind staff. --- I really appreciate the careful measures that this store has taken to protect the staff and community in these very weird times we are all facing. I know I'm perhaps in the minority when I say that currently I don't like to shop in places that aren't requiring masks, and aren't taking suggested measures seriously. I'm young-ish, and healthy and I know I'm statistically unlikely to die if I catch Covid, though there have been a few young athletes, fitter and younger than myself, statistical outlier cases that haven't fared well with the virus. Regardless, I truly think it's commendable that Smart & Final and a few other stores have taken the responsibility to enact some measures which other shoppers find extreme. I'm okay and happy to not shop next to those consumer that feel it's antithetical to 'freedom' to wear a simple mask and keep a distance. They can go to Walmart or Bashas. I've stopped going to other stores these last few months and I only shop at Smart & Final, Whole Foods, and my local community farmer's market. I feel bad for the employees in other establishments that have to come into contact with so many people all day that aren't courteous enough to put on a mask and keep some distance for the short time it takes to do some basic shopping. As I write this, our hospitals have had to enact emergency measures because the ICU beds are nearly at full capacity. I've seen the public freak out fights and read the message boards of idiots who think it's somehow their 'right' to not wear a mask, or even more extreme, they think it's constitutionally protected somehow. There is no 'constitutional right' in regards to whether or not a private business can refuse you service. Seriously, show me in the constitution (which clearly you haven't ever read) where that is stated as your right. It is up to the business to establish the rules you must abide by to shop in their private space. A grocery store is not a public space. You have to wear shoes and a shirt, and for now you have to wear a mask and wait in a distanced line. It's an added measure to protect the employees and the shoppers, and especially those who are immunocompromised in our communities. It's outrageous to me how selfish and ignorant some people can be, and I'm happy they're likely not shopping here because they don't like the current rules. Aside from my praise of the protective measures this store has taken in these weird times, I've been coming here since they opened this location because the produce section is really good. The store is always clean. The prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly and helpful. And sometimes if I want to buy 15lbs of spinach, 10lbs of lemons, or enough sparkling water for a small army, they've got that stuff too. Oh and every flavor imaginable of Torani syrup. Seriously - like half an aisle of flavors I didn't even know existed. I just love you guys! Thanks for being different and better. I'm sitting in the parking lot at Smart and Final at Gilbert and Guadalupe in Gilbert AZ, waiting for the police to arrive on my call. I went into S&F to shop for potato salad. Did my shopping and was heading to the check out. A sturdy looking employee came up to me and said I had to wear a mask. When I told him I couldn't because I have a medical condition he said that didn't matter and I'd have to leave the store. I said I was just gonna go check out and he told me if I didn't leave he'd take me out himself. I told him if he laid a hand on me I'd take HIM out. He called another bruiser over, but in the meantime I put on a mask. The second guy said I was being belligerent and I had to leave immediately. I talked politely and calmly, pointing out that I had a mask on now. He said it didn't matter and I had to leave immediately. I left my cart there and walked out. Also she was the most pleasant cashier I have ever met & that was to every customer while I was present! She is an excellent representative of your store. It is a very clean store! I was able to find an item that is not easy to find here in the valley, so if for nothing else, worth a look.The only drawback was that some of the prices were a dollar or two higher than some other stores on some things,. Great place to shop, good fresh droid and it's like a mini big box store. Admittedly I shop here frequently because it's on my commute. But I like the people that work there and everything is very consistent. They have a big variety of things like Tupperware, paper plates and Buick type items. A giant package of tiny weenies, an even larger package of carne asada, both HOT to touch, had been sitting in direct Arizona sunlight, along with other perishables & three armloads of groceries, just baking at the front door when I was heading out to run an errand. In haste, I jammed it in the fridge. Those weenies are gross. We did not order these things. I never heard a knock. I tried calling Smart & Final (the name on the bags) to let them know & after a long wait with their recording, I reached a rude representative who immediately began interrupting me & talking fast at me & loudly giving me orders & tasks. I feel sorry for the employees of Smart & Final & that's part of why I called. She should have allowed me to finish my sentence & then she should have thanked me. On Monday 7/27/2020 with Sales Receipt in hand I tried to return a mop I had purchase. The Smart & Final female employee in a sales lane asked if she could help. I informed her that the mop I had purchase there was faulty and that I would like to return it. She looked at it and stated that it had been use. I told her yes it had twice but the mop was not super hard to squeeze dry but the main problem is that the mop would not stay intact during use. Telling her I tried to fix it but couldn't. She told me that anything that had been used couldn't be returned. I asked her how would I have know the mop would fall apart before using. She told me that they were sorry but can't except it. I told her it was of no use to me and left it in the sales lane. I am 67 and try to do right when purchasing but feel that I have been mistreated in this instance. I bought 6 avocados just yesterday. I thought $.39 each what a good deal. I was very wrong. Keep in mind I bought these yesterday, I picked out ones that had not gone soft and mushy already but I just cut them all open and they are all unusable and black inside. I did not keep my receipt for some produce I bought so it's pretty pointless to bring them back without it. I would have if I had it no matter the cost. It's just the fact they are selling crap produce and I will never buy produce or probably anything from this store again. So I am posting this as a warning to others. read more

I love this store and I'm usually there once a day if not every other day...there are a few new faces that are so extremely rude and unprofessional. The cashier Crystal NEVER greets customers while she is checking you out she is so busy talking to other employees about personal things it's beyond rude. The only time she says anything to the paying customer is to say the total due. ALL of the agents need to be properly trained in bagging.
