The Trader Joe's on River Road is great. We are known to carpool and arrange for other Jersey City residents to hitch a ride to this magical land. Looking for a NJ culinary adventure? Try the bagel shop in the same parking lot, Whole Foods down the street, as well as the Mitsuwa Marketplace just a few lights down from this location. There are good views of UES Manhattan, too, as its right along the Hudson River. When you exit, go around the back of Trader Joe's and use the long hill that leads up the light where you can actually make a left across the busy road. If you go out the same way you came in, you have to travel north and do a U-turn, so that's a big pain. Compares to other TJ's in that it is just as good but almost better because for some reason it is never very busy when I go here. I know that doesn't sound like the Edgewater we know and love, but it is true. They always have a kids' treasure hunt contest where you have to find the parrot somewhere in the store, and an easy way to enter your name in a drawing each time you bring your own bags. A friend rented a Zipcar last night and invited me to go to this TJ's after hearing the frustrating and aggravating experiences I encounter each time I go to the Union Square TJ's. Let me tell you, I was glad I too her up on her invitation because it was HEAVENLY! There was barely any customers in there and get this, THEIR SHELVES WERE ACTUALLY STOCKED! YES, no LIE Yelpers, they actually had PRODUCTS on their shelves that you can buy! OMG! The TJ salespeople were all very friendly and helpful w/o needing to be prompted. I was actually able to go up and down every aisle and take my sweet time looking at each item WITHOUT being shoved aside, clipped in the ankle by a stroller or rushed! I was able to discover products I never knew TJ's had! The entire experience here was sooooo refresing and pleasant! There was NO MAD snaking line around the entire store and out the door either! I easily strolled up to a check-out counter and was able to complete my purchase in less than 10 minutes! WOW!! read more

Trader Joe's finally opened the doors to their much anticipated Edgewater location. The store is one of the largest in the area and offers spacious aisles, tons of parking, and more cash registers than any other in Northern NJ. They have a terrific selection and offer samples and cooking demonstrations. read more

I have a love / hate relationship with this Trader Joe's. It nicely stocked with great fresh products and they always have everything I need as normally other Trader Joe's seem to run out of stuff and I end up only doing 1/2 the shopping done. Only thing I cant stand is the parking situation, its always full as they share with tons of other business in the shopping plaza, there isn't enough shopping carts here ever and they are always scattered all over the place. Also, the lights and traffic is very bad as I do most of my shopping after work. read more

Love this place! Staff is generally really sweet and actually seem happy to be working. They are super helpful and usually willing to search for any product in the back, so don't be scared to ask if you can't find what you're looking for or they have appeared to run out. Saw a mouse run across the produce section once but there is alot of food there and it was hella cold. That's what I tell myself to feel better about it, lol. I am def more conscious now and try to buy pre packaged stuff. The downside: sooooo crowded if you come at the wrong time. Avoid this place on the weekends as if it were the black plague. I am not kidding. Early weekdays or later on a weeknight are your best bets. The parking can be a hassle but check the side lot, not just the one in front of the enterance. Also I really wish they got rid of those kiddie carts lol. Whoever thought of giving a 4 year old a shopping cart is a marketing genius but it's a nightmare for the rest of us!!! read more

This is a smaller store compared to the scale of some of the larger NYC ones, but's packed to the brim with fresh produce, pre-packaged dips, cheeses, pasta, meats, bakery goods and everything else you need. We love that we are getting everything organic, but you don't have to pay an arm or a leg for it. They also have a large section of vegetarian frozen meals and pizzas and kosher meat and that is a HUGE plus. Also love their selection of brown breads and gluten free options. Parking can get pretty tight over the weekends, so try and go a bit earlier on during the day (before 4 pm on weekends). Now we need one in Hoboken or Jersey City to make this a weekly visit instead of a once-a-month affair! read more

This was my first time EVER going to Trader Joes. I figured my husband and I would give it a try and see what all the rave is about. This specific location was smaller I think then your average grocery market. The products that they sold I think were not overly priced as I was expecting and all extremely healthy! The produce, canned foods, and frozen foods were all healthier choices then your average supermarket. The staff was extremely polite and every single person had a smile on. My only con was the disorganization of the check out lanes. I expected it to be busy being that it was a Sunday afternoon. However the line system was extremely confusing and all over the place. I am very excited to try all the healthy snacks I bought. If all goes well I will definitely be going back to Trader Joes just maybe not on a Sunday afternoon. ;) read more

I love Trader Joes! The staff is friendly and always helpful! This location is on the water and beautiful in the warmer months. There is also ample parking here as well. I love the selections at Trader Joes! Everything is so fresh! I also think they have the best selection on frozen vegetables! They just have certain combinations you don't find at regular super markets! This location always has free samples as well. As you head over to the dairy section there is almost always someone serving some delicious treasure for you to try. TRY IT! You will most likely end up buying whatever it is like I always do! The prices are Trader Joes to me are just unbeatable if you compare it to whole foods! No everything here isn't organic but that's the same for Whole Foods just be careful of what you are buying and read the labels. My one complaint about this location is the over crowding! It's a fairly small location and when it's packed, shopping is almost unbearable. Avoid it at all cost on the weekends! Go on the weeknight a for a much better experience! Enjoy! read more

I tried to like Trader Joe's, I really did. I was told of grandiose tales of wonder and excitement. I was told of the freshness, reasonable prices, and endless options of organic goodness! I apologize to all the TJ fans but I don't see the major benefits of TJ vs. any other grocery chain. The selection at TJ is different and they have cool items. But that's all I consider it to be: just another cool place to shop. Call me old-fashioned but I'd rather take General Mills, PepsiCo, Oscar Meyer, Kraft, etc. over TJ products. It's back to A&P, Pathmark, Han Ah Reum, or King's Supermarket for me. At least I tried! read more

This is a good Trader Joe's and worth an occasional trip from surrounding cities (and that coming from someone within walking distance to a supermarket). Good variety of interesting foods. There are some products that are pricey, yet there are some that are better than typical supermarket prices (egg whites, cheeses, some fruits, smoked salmon). Cashiers ALWAYS much nicer than typical supermarket cashier. Things I would avoid would include the bagged lettuces, which spoil really quickly after opening. read more

I had never heard of a Trader Joe's until I moved to New Jersey and I only wish that they had them around where I used to live. They are a little cheaper than the other grocery stores around the area and have better quality products that they manufacture themselves. It is like a Whole Foods but almost everything in Trader Joe's is made, packaged and sold by Trader Joe's. The store is smaller than the average grocery store but it is always well stocked and has a decent variety of products being sold inside it. The place however does focus more on the food aspect of a grocery store rather than the extras such as laundry detergent, deodorant, greeting cards, etc. It is not too much of a problem for me since I live right down the street from a CVS. Overall I gave this place four stars because of the cheaper prices, better quality food, friendly staff and the clean and well stocked building. I have been and will continue to hit this place up for my major grocery shopping needs. read more

Im a fan of health! So Trader Joe is one of my favorite places to shop for food, and not just any food, healthy, fresh, and organic food! I bought a couple of granolas here for my yogurt, as well as chips and even brownies! The place reminds me of Whole Foods SuperMarket except its a quarter its size or maybe even less. Either way, they get the job done. The place has nice parking spots, the inside is clean & bright. And it isnt hard to find the things you need, just look down the isle or ask someone working there. DON'T buy the steaks. My father was a butcher, I worked in his shops for years--I know steaks. I bought 2 "grass fed organic rib eye beef steaks". They were not cheap. I cooked them perfectly--medium rare. The entire steak was so tough and chewy I could not swallow it. Constant chew and remove. If it were a restaurant I would send it back. This was my first time buying steak at TJs. I am so spoiled with club steaks from Caffasso's Fairway. I have been shopping at TJ's since they opened and have been very happy until now. Trader Joe's is fabulous. We all know that. This particular TJ's was nice because, even on a Saturday, it was surprisingly empty. Of course, that made for a fabulous shopping trip for me! Only downside (and being a transplant, I've noticed this a lot in east coast Trader Joe's) is there is no wine/beer sales here. This is a tough TJ's to shop in. You have your typical douche Bergen Co. attitude to contend with, which makes dealing with other shoppers irritating. The staff at this location is also on the chilly side. If you can get here on a weeknight or EARLY Sat or Sun morning, you'll be in good shape. Their prices are the exact same as NYC so I will definitely be frequenting here more often since it's a shorter commute to mi casa. I still prefer the Chelsea location since that is much cleaner and brighter inside. The food & prices are good, I picked up their frozen margherita pizza (the TJ brand) and some turkey meatballs over the weekend and demolished it the very next day. Quick & easy-to-make game day eat: Turn oven on to 425*, dice up (5) turkey meatballs & sprinkle over frozen pizza. Heat in 425* oven for 15 minutes and voila! Now veg on couch & enjoy the game. read more

The lines get ridiculous here on weekends and the setup seems very warehouse-ish! However, the clerks are all very nice and friendly and they try their best to speed things along. Parking is easy and I'm happy with the selections at his location. Their salads are the BEST! One thing to beware of: expiration dates. I usually come here to shop when I am going to make a good dinner for my friends in NJ. Its a pretty small location and its missing the great wine section that just across the water has. And it seems everything is also half the size shelves as other trader Joe's I have seen around the country. The staff isn't really to helpful, but the free taste tester lady is always helpful and trying to sell the product your sampling. read more

I'm more between 2-3 stars for this location, mostly due to a lack of selection of certain items, such as fruits and veggies, which are in limited varieties, as well as meats. I mostly come here for the frozen items which are often a 50/50 mix of whether or not they'll actually taste good, but when they do taste good, they taste very good. Frozen and canned goods, as well as snack items are strong points here, dairy and cheese is okay, fresh produce, meats and baked goods are at the bottom. read more

Although I don't have a car, I go here as often as I can (get a ride). It's always organized, there's not too many people, the line doesn't span the entire store like the one in Manhattan, and the staff are super friendly! I wish they had the wine store attached to it so I could buy a ton of cheap bottles, but that's my only complaint. About once every two trips I buy a new thing that rocks my world and makes me obsessed with that food: this round, it's edamame hummus. read more

I came on a Sunday afternoon and the place was mobbed! I've never seen so much foot traffic in a Trader Joes before. The store was a decent size (larger than the location in Wayne) but the shelves were lacking merchandise. I assume since it was so busy things were just getting gobbled up by patrons....but I kid you not, the shelves were bare. I ended up buying 2 cold items and almost put them back after I saw how long the line was. But to my surprise, the line moved really fast (insert applause here for the cashier). I would like to come back maybe on a weekday and see if I can get a different experience (in hopes that it will be less congested and stocked with stuff to browse/purchase). When I lived in New York, there were few moments when I went to Trader Joe's and stood in line all the way in the back of the store. I remember telling myself how Trader Joe's is the unicorn of all supermarkets and that the prices are worth being farts away from the register. Now with this Edgewater location, I can now take a breather and get some sort of peace with less folks roaming around and smaller lines. Now that the hectic experience of Trader Joe's by Union Square, NYC is out of my head, I can finally relax and read ingredients without worrying about that sort of nightmare. The great part of a more relaxed store is that instead of rushing and being impulsive, I can now read the quality ingredients prior to purchasing and even at times get my hands on that virgin coconut oil that is the holy grail to all Trader Joe's. I am experiencing Trader Joe's like a happy up norther and doing cart wheels over their prices. Trader Joe's has always had a special place in my heart, even in NYC I will still visit it even if I get cursed and the store looks like a typical Black Friday sale. It's worth the shopping trip. read more

Because of its small size, especially compared to the Whole Foods down the street I'm able to get in, get what I need and get out without meandering through aisles I don't need to go through. I would recommend going very early in the day as the place is packed after 6pm during the work week and Saturday & Sunday afternoons. I did find Sunday night a really great time to go shopping there. The staff is continuously nice, friendly and helpful; always willing to offer a hand for hard to reach items. Also the prices are reasonable, including man of the organic foods. read more

Trader Joe's has had me for years now. Normally I go to the one on 23rd street in NYC but lately I have been coming to this location for a few months now. They have a pretty good selection, sure its not the biggest Trader Joe's chain I have seen but they have a good selection. The food I have bought has been fresh, and LOVE that they carry my go to non-dairy options (which was the main reason I switched from Walmart to TJ's). Major bonus is their costumer service and their parking lot! -1 star because they don't carry any beer or wine. read more

The staff is friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable about their departments while at the same time efficient enough to keep an obviously very busy store from turning into a whirlwind of disaster. Each and every Trader Joe's employs a local artist to create fun, colorful and new wall displays every single week. What a great way to watch the store change from week to week! Pricing? It's CHEAP!! The majority of their products are WAY below what you would pay at a Shop Rite or A&P, mainly because they cut out the middle man. Wanna know the best part? This Trader Joe's is smaller than the ones in Manhattan!! How is that possible? And its layout is all wrong. Everyone is congested at the front of the store and then the back of the store is completely deserted. The checkout lines are interesting as you actually slide your cart "behind the counter" and in my case, I just happened across the world's slowest cash register person ever. I watched several people check out at neighboring lines as my cart was slowly checked out. Don't go around 5pm on a weekday as you'll run into the angry mob of "mothers on their way home from work". They know where everything in the store is and whiz through the store just pulling stuff off the shelves. If you don't know where everything is (me), go at off-times. read more

If you have a car, this is the closest Trader Joes to go to from Jersey City without going to Manhattan. Yes, it means going through traffic-ridden River Rd, but once you get to Trader Joes there is plenty of parking. I usually come here on the weekend, and it has never ever gotten to a point where we had to circle around the parking lot. This location gets bonus points for not ever being slammed! However, even though it is never slammed, I have no idea why produce is limited whenever I visit. I suppose we all love our fruits and vegetables but for some reason I keep coming at a time where the shelves are pretty sparse. Other than that, this location is what you would expect from any other Trader Joes. It is clean, the workers are very friendly and helpful, and it is stocked with some of my favorite food items. If only they can keep their produce fully stocked all the time, this location would be golden to me! read more

A fine alternative for TJ refugees from across the Hudson. Big, well-stocked, not crowded (during the week, anyway), and located close to other suburban delights (Whole Foods, Target, Asian supermarkets), so you can get the most out of your Zipcar rental. Enthusiastic staffers seem happy to give you samples or run into the stock room to find an item. And they always have the parbaked sourdough baguettes that are so hard to find at other TJs. The only drawback is that the parking lot is a bit tight. Oh, and no alcohol sales. read more

I have yet to meet a person who has been to Trader Joe's who doesn't LOVE Trader Joes'!! Food is always fresh as they only stock foods that fly off the shelves. That can be a small problem sometimes as popular items may be out of stock, especially on busy Saturdays and Sundays. That said, they get deliveries almost daily and they are constantly restocking on the weekends. If you can't find a product you are looking for, they will go to the back and look for you to see if it's available and just not out on the shelves yet. If they have it, they'll bring it to you. GREAT service. They also have a sample counter and they are almost always there sampling new products. Their food is so delicious. They have a great selection of organic and specialty foods that can be hard to find elsewhere and the prices are amazing. Every time I go there I am shocked by how little I pay relative to what I have in my cart. The BEST thing about Trader Joe's is that all their store branded products (which is probably 80-90% of the store) is GMO Free. I'm not sure why they don't shout this off the rooftops, as it's a really really big deal given how many foods like corn, soy, rice, etc. are GMO. Seriously, most prepared food in our food supply contains GMOs. Trader Joe's requires all supplies for their store branded foods to submit affidavits to prove that all ingredients, especially suspect ingredients are GMO free. This is something I personally care about so I emailed them to confirm all this after one of their cashiers told me. Their cashiers are also super friendly. If you shop at Trader Joe's once you'll definitely be going back. read more

My favorite place to do groceries. I usually used to get my TJs haul from their 21st street location, but later realized it was better to drive to Edgewater instead. Duh!! Now I can buy even more without the hassle of carrying back stuff home. Some of my favorites at TJs- fresh flowers, org. Avocados, org grapefruit, Ezekiel bread, fruit preserves....... The list is just too long. I have recently started the slow carb diet, but trader joes is fantastic as I can plan my meals without missing carbs too much. Wish TJs would increase their produce inventory. For org kale, cilantro, and other good greens I have to drive up to whole foods, which is a ~2 min drive north from TJs. Latest discovery- dark chocolate and pistachio covered English toffee :) a must try !! read more

I love Trader Joe's and this is the one that I frequent the most. They have a great selection of food item and other products. The staff is friendly and really helpful. Best of all, they offer food samples! My biggest gripe with the store is that on weekends, they often get wiped out of many foods and products. The traffic to Edgewater along River Rd can get hellacious, and the parking lot can be a bit of a nightmare. After battling through this, it can be disappointing to find that they're out of speculoos or chia seeds. I'm still happy to come to this store though. Great products at a reasonable price with employees who are nice and genuinely care about customer service. Also, I like bringing my own bags so I can enter their weekly contest. Best of all, you never know who you'll see at this location. I once met Tyson Beckford and my husband asked him to take a picture with me before I blew a gasket! They have a great selection at this TJ's. Although, they could stand to have a bigger cheese section. That is one of my favorite parts, besides the alcohol. I really wish this store would get a liquor license and start carrying wine, beers, and spirits. I miss getting $4 bottles of wine! Most of their other isles are pretty comparable to the other TJ's that I have been to. The staff at this particular location are not as friendly and cheery or as helpful as most of the other TJ's that I have been to. I am not exactly sure why. Maybe it's the area.
