I'm really becoming partial to this neighborhood grocery store. It's totally family owned and operated, it has everything I need with the exception of meat and seafood (but that is what Fairway and Zabars is for, right UWS-iders?!) and Grandma Z told me I was beautiful one day I was feeling bloated and particularly non-beautious. So yes, I like this place for reasons that are purely vain, but let's chalk that up to the customer service category, shall we? Another plus: all of their herbs are grown in the back. Don't see basil out in the produce section? They will pick some fresh from the plants they have in the back. Carrots straight out of the ground? Check. Birthday candles? Check. Snapple in every flavor imaginable? Check. Also, in almost all instances, their prices are significantly cheaper than Gristedes and Fairway. It might be the size of one aisle of Gristedes, but the customer service is always on par and I love seeing the little grand-baby running around the store. So Italian. So mom-and-pop. So perfect. If you are having a moment of laziness or are trapped in a NYC-style snowstorm, they deliver Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm. Closed every Sunday. read more

It is an old fashioned grocery story that has a well-worn linoleum floor and a tin ceiling. The store is stocked with everything you might need from food to household items. I read that this is a family run business, and I think one of the daughters might have helped us find what we needed. The prices were very reasonable. read more

You'll be surprised how much they fit into that tiny space! Star #3: Fresh produce that's much better than the closest grocery store (Gristedes). Is it as good as the farmer's market on Sundays two blocks down? Probably not, but it's open 6 days a week! Star #4: Speaking of 6 days a week, props to the establishment for taking Sundays off. Mrs. Z at the cash register does know who you are, and Dominic, Mary, and the rest of the family are so helpful and open-hearted. They've even taken special orders for my wife, a real foodie. Who else does that at a neighborhood grocery store? Moreover, the produce is consistently good and varied, the store is easy to navigate, the hours are convenient, and the prices beat local chain stores. Typical NYC grocery stop, anything but typical staff. You know the scowling, unhelpful attendants across the way at Gristedes? You won't find any of that abominable customer service at Zingone Brothers. Family owned, totally nice. I've been living around here since January and I'm grateful to have a place to go to for fresh milk and oatmeal that hasn't been laying around the shelves for years. I love this store. Everyone who helps run the place is the nicest and friendliest people I've ever met. They are an unbelievably amazing family. They have superbly priced items and a great delivery service. You would be hard-press to find a store in NYC that would do so much for their customers - even the ones they don't know well. I went in once looking for forino flour and being a difficult flour to locate they offered to check with their suppliers. Even though they didn't mange to get it, they still bothered to inform me during my next visit that none of their suppliers carried it. The effort in itself is more than i can ever ask for, esp compared to the staff in gristedes down the street. Everything is so well priced I'm not even sure how they do it! 5 stars for customer service Even though I found it to be a regular mini grocery store, after I read these reviews I decided to just stop by to check it out since I was hungry. I walked over minding my own business, and then after I was asked if I needed help, I thought that was pretty nice and probably typical for someone looking a bit lost. Then one of the owners and her brother randomly started conversation with me and asking if I was new to the neighborhood! And then maybe their dad came around the corner and asked if I needed anything, too. SOOO HELPFUL! Kinda rare in these types of places, but I really did feel the love in this place (haha so corny). I lived in this neighborhood twenty years ago. I always loved Zingone's, particularly the fruit. Thought, incredibly, for a small shop, they do seem to carry everything else. I now find myself again living in this neighborhood. I walked into Zingone's, and it was as if I'd never left! They remembered me! and made me feel as if the intervening twenty years had been a disorienting mirage. Incredible. Immediately they set up a house account for me. On a day I was injured at the gym and stupidly stopped on the way home to pick up a myriad of "necessities" - I could barely walk - they just about insisted on having everything I had with me and I got from them delivered. The fee - $2. I was informed if I needed anything, including fresh meat, or anything they did not carry, they would be happy to go to the large supermarket in the neighborhood and get it for me. This is what it's like. Personal. Friendly. Inviting. And best fruit produce I have found in the entire city - I eat a lot of fruit. This wonderous establishment only exists as one of the family had the foresight to buy the building. Other wise, like every other personal, small, family business, I suspect Zingone's would be but a memory. In this cold, computer-driven, mechanical city where personal service, and concern seem to be available only to the 1% and/or fee driven, I feel truly blessed to have Zingone's in my life. read more

This store is like Mary Poppin's purse: tiny but they have *everything*. Fantastic fresh crispy crust Italian bread, organic milk and juice, beautiful produce and all at reasonable prices. I love this family owned store - the way they handle the cash register, their morning newspaper, a delivery guy, the coffee pot and someone asking where to find ziplock bags without missing a beat. It does my heart good to see Zingone's thriving in this cut-throat neighborhood. They are truly the nicest, most helpful people and their produce is wonderful. I feel good shopping there; it reminds me of the old New York of my parents' youth, when everyone knew everyone, when customer service was a source of pride and not just a corporate buzz phrase. It's lovely to have this treasure in our neighborhood; they beat the chain stores with their who-cares attitudes, crappy piped-in music and general stress-making qualities hands down. We were in the city for a night and needed some food supplies at a late hour. This was right around the corner from where we were staying, putting the "convenience" in convenience store. They had a heck of a lot of variety of items I didn't expect them to have and it was a pretty straight-forward shopping experience. Only one star off due to the fact we noticed there were some items we almost bought but realized they were dusty from not being moved much. We checked the dates, expired. I mean, there's a reason they're dusty and expired...it's because no one wanted them. Everything else was fine and I'm sure they keep all the other things up to date. Can't say enough about how great this place is. I grew out just a couple blocks away and the Zingoni family basically raised me. My family has been giving them business for 30 years. Their produce is second none and there's even a good chance you'll run into celebrities such as Jerry Seinfeld or John MaCenroe. Both are frequent shoppers. One of my favorite grocery stores. Produce MUCH better than the neighboring stores and so much cheaper. Need a giant bunch of basil? so cheap and fresh. Having seen Zingone in the Times the week and headed to the UWS anyway, decided to drop in one Friday evening (while they were cleaning) and was greeted by friendly staff who were chatting up some fellow patrons (though Katy H., I'm fairly certain people used that phrase before that horrendous chain). I moved to UWS on Monday. It's Friday. I made my first grocery store visit and decided to go to Zingone's because of the Yelp reviews. It's a small 2 alley grocer that you can clearly tell is family owned and loved by all. The owner, Dominique knew everyone's name. I let him know I'm new to NYC and he greeted me with a smile and told me if I needed a delivery/if I was sick, to let them know! They have a cat in the store that's very friendly. It's definitely a good spot for all your basic needs. If you need special ingredients, I'd consider a Trader Joe's or Zabars (even though I haven't been to either). read more

I feel silly writing this because the fact is that in this city you will shop at the little grocery closest to you for the things you didn't get on your last hand-numbing trek from your favorite big grocery with the lower prices. But I feel so lucky to have one of the last, truly authentic family-owned and cared for stores near me that I have to share. Zingone really can surprise you with some nice produce at a great price for such a small market. And it's refreshing that the name of the store doesn't end in "farm" or "corporation" but rather "Brothers". Whichever family member is at the register will look you in the eye, smile, and say "thank you" as you pay. It is obvious that they have been here since the 30s because they really enjoy being a service to the neighborhood. I've written a few reviews blasting the over hyped places in the city that pretend to add something to our quality of life but really just rip us off. Zingone's is one of those places that make me happy to be a New Yorker. It's just good at what it does and it does it honestly and fairly and gives good value. read more
