Food and service were both excellent. Really enjoyed the experience and highly recommend.

Giving an updated review for TQLAS but this time highlighting the bar and staff. I've already been to this restaurant for meals and was happy with my experience in the past having sat out on the patio and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My friend and I were looking for a good margarita after some bar hoping and I remembered this spot. Decided we should come by to see how is sitting at their bar. The bar inside the restaurant is very inviting and cool. Plenty of TVs to catch games and I liked the decor. The Freda artwork at the bar was a nice touch and the bar area itself was clean and well stocked. Appreciate being able to see all of the liquor bottles and ingredients kept nearby. Initially the bartender we had when we first got there (sorry forgot his name) was super sweet and attentive. I appreciated that he made some suggestions to us based on our preferences and was very nice. He made some good initial margaritas. Extra kudos to Brandon though, he's the bar manager who kind of took over from there. Brandon made what was already a good experience a phenomenal one. Brandon took initiative to ask my friend and I about what kind of drinks we like and then made some off the menu suggestions. He named off a few great sounding cocktails, one included a refreshing avocado type marg that we had to try. He was a stellar mixologist and the attentive and individualized experience made us definitely stick around longer. What sealed the deal was when my friend mentioned it was the both of our birthdays (two Capricorns walk into a bar...) and Brandon jumped on it! He made little celebratory bday shots not only for us but the few bar patrons next to us so we could all celebrate. It was lovely and unexpected. It also allowed us to get to know the other people at the bar and started some great conversations. I'm really happy to report that this bar is amazing and totally gives off a good and welcoming vibe. The service and friendliness we encountered when we came recently was unmatched to anywhere we had been earlier in the day and now I'm an even bigger fan of this place. Can't wait to come back and this will definitely be a spot for future margaritas And hangs.

Went here based on a TikTok I saw rating the best happy hours. They offer happy hour daily with $12 margs and $5 street tacos among other items. I got the jalapeño marg and the blackberry ginger. All made with fresh ingredients and muddled in-house. Both were delicious! I also got the carne asada taco and the picadillo taco. The chips and salsa were good! Seemed like the chips were homemade and the salsa was wonderful with a nice bit of heat. The bartender / waiter was super friendly and offered his favorites. Great atmosphere - Spanish style interior and nice outdoor patio.

Went with a group of girlfriends to celebrate my 50th birthday. Loved the chips and my California burrito. Kind of picky about my Mexican food since I'm from San Diego, but really enjoyed our dinner. Our waitress was fun with lots of personality. We didn't even have a reservation on a Saturday night, but they were able to accommodate us. I would go back.

Came midweek during happy hour time. The area is entering into slower times, so there weren't many people there. We took a seat at the bar, and were immediately given chips and salsa, which were quite good. I ordered their classic margarita that was on their happy hour menu. It did not taste very fresh - definitely more like a mix you could grab on a store shelf. I would choose something different in the future. We ordered the fish tacos as well as carne asada and carnitas (also on happy hour). Despite not being busy, they took awhile to come out. The meat on the tacos was not hot and seemed like it was cooked awhile ago and reheated. They could also stand to upgrade the tortillas. We were offered some spicy salsa, which was very good. Overall the bright spots were their homemade salsas and our bartender, Omar. He was very welcoming and friendly. The food just didn't hit the spot unfortunately. If we returned we would probably just come for drinks and snack on some chips. It's a cute spot, but was just ok.

This place was so lovely. The service was unmatched - truly the server had our names memorized before we even ordered drinks. I loved the vibe and the food was fantastic. Nice sized portions, super accommodating to modifications, and we were able to be seated immediately. The menu is incredible, I want to try so many things, can't wait to return.

Typical Mexican restaurant with traditional decorations. Waitress was super friendly and helpful with her recommendations. We ordered a pitcher of Classic Margaritas which were nice and strong and really good. They brought out some chips and salsa which were very crunchy and the salsa was just the right amount of spice. Our group of four each ordered a different dish. - carnitas tacos (without rice and beans) - carne asada tacos - chicken tinga tacos - Baja fish tacos We enjoyed all our meals and were nice and toasty by the end of the pitcher. Great service and ambiance! We sat on the patio and it was perfect.

Came out here for Restaurant Week, and they have a great selection. It's ideally situated in Old Town La Quinta. The food was great.

Boo... happy Halloween happy horror hour here.

It is a bit confusing... This place was terrible as noted in my past review and many others, Now NEW OWNERS, NEW CHEF, and NEW WEBSITE so gave it another shot. YELP SHORT ANSWER: Yes. our dining experience on this evening was a 2 then a 5 but all in all good enough, the food was spectacular. LOCATION: Excellent in LQ Old Town. BUILDOUT: Excellent, as it was. MENU: Very good not too many choices but all great selections for LQ crowd. FOOD PREP: Amazing, thankfully it appears a kitchen to be proud of. FOOD QUALITY: Was crazy good, all well above what I had experienced in the past, new owners, so mo better now. WAITSTAFF: Hello? unfriendly on this evening, we felt like we were at the DMV or CVS pharmacy. All staff were not too busy and kind of grumpy, unfriendly to each other as well as customers, not rude but just blunt. Before new owners opened, I happened to be there when new owners or management were giving a pep talk to new employees outside stressing, attitude, fun, great service, and all the other stuff that makes a place great even if the food sucks. Well, happy campers not so much, maybe they need a refresher course on why people spend money to eat there and locals to come back. It was just the waitstaff, our server was so nice she was a 10. The food made up for the odd vibe of waitstaff as it started off badly to where we were about to leave but ended with the best happy hour crunchy chicken tacos I have had in a long time as well as street tacos and guac. OVERALL VALUE: Yes very good. We tipped 20% hoping it makes its way back to the kitchen and server. We were impressed and will be back for a great Happy Hour. TIP: Confirm Happy Hour times, they don't really know. Sign at entry says 12-5pm yet it ends at 6pm... Best winter time is 3-5pm outdoor seating and if it lasts until 6pm then have a couple more tacos and $6 margaritas.

The service was good, but the food was not. We ordered pork belly tacos and the salmon. The tacos had very little filling in them, which was disappointing because they were not inexpensive. They were bland which is hard to do with pork belly. They were just super basic, and the filling was sparse. The salmon was a bit overcooked, and my husband didn't love the sauce that was on top, but that's just a preference. The atmosphere and location are so great. We really wanted to love this place but unfortunately we just didn't.

Baja fish tacos off the happy hour menu. So yummy!!

After a thorough search of Mexican spots to go in all of the Coachella valley we landed on TQLAS. Tbh...it didn't start well. Despite the nice south of the border ambience and color, almost empty restaurant we were sat down at a table, but they took too long to even see us or wait on us. No bueno. Not even water, in a 120degree crazy type day. So we moved straight to the bar to get direct service. We were hungry and wanted to take advantage of the happy hour they have. The chips and salsa, which we had to ask for, were pretty good. Made in house. We ordered the Baja fish tacos off the happy hour menu and 2 margaritas. Both were good. The fish was just out of the fryer and hot. It was awesome. The margaritas were too - little tart like I like them. We ended up ordering the fajitas and splitting them - carne asada, chicken, and shrimp and they too were magnificent. Succulent, juicy, and the dish def is both well. I think the flour tortillas were better. Overall it did start rocky with the service but food was very good. I recommend everything we got and I'd go back...on a cooler day, to enjoy the happy hour and the food next time I'm in the Coachella Valley. ;-)

Toria B.

Everything we had was good whether it was for the vegetarians or for the margarita lovers. They come out with homemade chips and salsa that are delicious. Tacos are phenomenal and filling. I would recommend the Cadillac Margarita if you are having a few beverages. The device is fast and friendly. They take reservations and have a mister in those exceptionally hot days.

I always believe in redemption! Here we go! Beginning to end -Clean table, dining area neat, -Server knew about everything on the menu and made great suggestions. I got the Birria Tacos and bottomless mimosa. -Chips and Salsa were great. The chips were thicker, which I'm not used to, but with the slight spice of the salsa, they complement each other very well. -Mimosa was delicious, I like them strong, and that it was. -Before getting the food, the staff was quick to clear tables and clean them thoroughly. -I'm no expert with Mexican food because I'm Hawaiian, but my wife and mother-in-law are Mexican and they make really good beans, red rice and Birria; however, TQLAS needs to show my wife and mother-in-law how to cook beans and rice. The Birria was everything and more! ATTENTION: If you like Birria tacos, come here! I did a bottomless mimosa every 4 minutes, they did a good job refilling for my pleasure without asking. Nice job TQLAS, redemption and more! Thank you! -JAMES was the waiter and gets a lot of credit to this experience, even busy at lunch he had great composure and served with a smile.

As stated in the last review from Mrs Avila, I was a part of the 40 bday dinner group at TQLA. Being a local business owner of seventeen years I have never received such a disappointing treatment from another business owner. We truly understood that adding two more people to our reservation would've made a bit of hardship on the staff but nevertheless didn't deserve to be treated the way we were treated. There was clearly two chairs available and yet the owner refused to accommodate. I began to walk out and see if I could get seating at another venue when the owner of TQLA made the comment," don't even come back and make a reservation here again!". Our entire group was floored when we heard her say that. I personally walked over to Fortun restaurant where I was greeted by GM Deanna. I explained our situation, she responded that they were slammed! As I noticed. She offered us seating at their bar while they configured seating on their patio. Before we could finish our first cocktail they had us seated. We ate drank and had amazing food and even better service. Thank you Fortun for saving the evening. As for TQLA. Do not worry about us making future reservation again. You just told four current business owners, three current general managers and our entire group that your place needs some maturing. We will gladly relate our experience to the thousands that follow us on social media. read more

There's a Del Taco not too far away... I'd recommend you heading in that direction. Food had zero flavor - none - and the service was not there. Both parties next to us got up many times gathering their own tableware, napkins and one even poured all of us more water. I won't even get into the drinks because to charge someone $27 for a one ounce shot of 20oz juice is a joke. Somehow we racked up $119 for two appetizers, chips & salsa (yes, they charged us for ships and salsa) and two drinks. Eat elsewhere. read more

Spontaneous date night and we ended up here. Originally hailing from San Diego where the mexican food is legit we are usually hard pressed to find a place that we love here in the area. Yes there are some so-so to decent ones but never have we been so unexpectedly blown away by the food than we were last night at this place! We started with Cazeula Tlaquepaque for myself ( a person who does not drink normally ). IT WAS AMAZING!!! we ordered the 3 taco plate with cochinita pibil and el pastor with black beans and rice. HOLY MOLY GAUCAMOLE !!! It was soooooo good! The flavor was on point and the presentation was perfect. We finished our meal with carmel infused churros w/ vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.... OMG!!! seriously guys... run don't walk! Our waiter was amazing and we asked to speak with the manager to tell him how great our experience was. We met Juan ( the chef ) and chatted it up for a while with some great convo. and ended the night with full belly and smiles. Definitely DO NOT let any of the bad reviews on here keep you from trying this amazing place! :) We wanted to go back again the next night! read more

The staff was great, recommending their favorites, and we took advantage. My husband had the strawberry margarita, which was quite luscious, and 3 tacos. Oscar suggested the chicken Tikka taco, which my husband is still talking about. The mole one was great as well. I had the jicama mango salad with chicken, which I loved. Can't beat the price. This…read morerestaurant is located inside La Quinta Resort & Club, and the experience feels special from the moment you walk through the historic, tall arched wooden doors. The entrance lead you down a hallway toward the hostess stand, with couches, a bar and a piano being played to the left. To the right , you enter the main dining room. The space felt open, elegant, and immediately welcoming. Talk about fine dining at its best. The hostess was able to quickly seat our party of six, and our server immediately brought over the menus and filled our water glasses. THE FOOD: We started with the oysters , and they did not disappoint. They were served with a shallot mignonette which was vinegary in all the right ways. They were so good, that we ended up ordering a second round. For dinner, we all ordered the steak with mushrooms and broccoli. The steak was perfectly cooked, and every bite was bursting with flavor. Even the mushrooms and broccoli stood out. Everything was seasoned beautifully without overpowering the actual flavors of the vegetables. Even the bread was so good. It was served with three different butters. And dessert? Also top notch. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner with friends. THE SERVICE: The service really added to the experience. Our server was attentive and took great care of us. The GM, Ray, also stopped by our table, and we ended up chatting and joking with him a bit. He was incredibly friendly and personable and made sure we were having a great experience. Between the setting, the food, the genuinely attentive service, this as one of those dinners where it all felt elevated. Definitely one of the many highlights of our stay at La Quinta Resort.

Morgan's in the Desert: Disappointment After Disappointment. $400 for Meh…read more After living in La Quinta for four years, we were ready to try Morgan's, as it's one of the last foodie restaurants in the Coachella valley that we haven't tried. We arrived early for our reservation, excited to grab a drink at the bar before dinner. Then we were told our table was already available... only to be seated at a dining table in the bar, off to the side, where apparently servers do not exist while staring at the back of the pianist and the barflies. The two bartenders were fantastic--especially Brian, who was working at warp speed--but they already had a packed bar to manage. Adding dining tables to their workload was clearly not realistic. Why were we seated there? Still a mystery. Reservation problems: I booked through the QR code advertised in The Gem for the August prix fixe dinners at La Quinta Resort's restaurants. When we arrived, we were told the prix fixe menu wasn't available that day. Sorry! So we ordered bread and oysters instead. About 15-20 minutes later, the manager came over and said they would honor the prix fixe after all. Great! Except... we'd already ordered appetizers. ‍ And wow, was it SLOW. We were seated at 5:30 and still didn't have our entrées at 7:00. Drinks regularly sat empty, and once the restaurant got busy around 6:30, water refills disappeared completely. Did I mention it was 110 degrees outside? The food? A mixed bag--but overall, wildly overpriced and underwhelming. * Oysters: Ice-cold and served with a good mignonette. Also pricey. * Bread: Fresh and warm, but the olive tapenade was aggressively salty. Again, overpriced. * Watermelon salad: The winner! Refreshing, flavorful, and the spicy nuts gave it a nice kick. Highly recommend. * Chicken cacciatore: Dry chicken, undercooked tomatoes, overcooked pasta. Never again. * Oscar filet: Delicious and well-prepared, but nothing memorable or special--especially for the price. Bottom line: We spent about $400 for a frustrating, painfully slow, mostly mediocre meal. There are too many great restaurants in the area to spend that kind of money on "meh." We won't be back.

My wife, son, and I visited Tommy Bahama's restaurant in La Quinta on Sunday after church, looking…read moreforward to enjoying a pleasant family lunch. Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable afternoon turned into one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had, not because of the food, but because of the extraordinarily poor customer service, lack of attention, and, most concerning, the dismissive attitude of the restaurant's management. Our experience began with something as simple as requesting a drink menu. Despite asking several times, no one provided us with one. We waited patiently, expecting that someone would eventually attend to our request. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Eventually, my wife became so frustrated that she physically got up from our table, walked over to an individual we later confirmed was the restaurant manager, Jasper Jarvis, and personally requested a drink menu. Only then did we finally receive one. It is astonishing that customers dining at a restaurant of this caliber must repeatedly request something as basic as a drink menu and ultimately leave their table to obtain one from management. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning. The most unacceptable part of our experience occurred when our meals were served. My son and I received our food, but my wife's meal was nowhere to be found. We waited, expecting her food to arrive shortly. It did not. My son and I eventually finished our entire meals, and my wife's food still had not arrived. Approximately ten minutes after we had finished eating, her meal was finally brought to the table. Think about that for a moment. Three family members go out to enjoy Sunday lunch together, yet two finish their meals before the third person even receives hers. My wife was left eating alone while my son and I sat watching her. The entire purpose of dining out as a family is to enjoy a meal together. That opportunity was completely ruined by the restaurant's inability to coordinate something as fundamental as serving three meals within a reasonable time of one another. What made this experience considerably worse was our interaction with the restaurant manager, Jasper Jarvis. When we brought these concerns to his attention, we expected some degree of professionalism, accountability, or at least a sincere acknowledgment that the service had fallen well below reasonable expectations. Instead, we encountered an attitude that left us feeling our concerns were an inconvenience. Mr. Jarvis attributed the delayed meal to the kitchen staff. Regarding our difficulty obtaining a drink menu, his response was essentially that he had provided one when my wife approached him. That response completely missed the point. A customer should not have to get up, search for a manager, and personally request something that the service staff should have provided in the first place. More troubling was the overall impression Mr. Jarvis gave us during the conversation. Rather than demonstrating genuine concern or taking responsibility for the dining experience, he appeared dismissive and spoke in a manner that made us feel we were wasting his time. As customers, we were not looking for special treatment, complimentary meals, or anything unreasonable. We simply expected competent service, basic courtesy, and a manager willing to acknowledge legitimate concerns. This was not an isolated experience for our family. My wife had previously visited this restaurant, and according to her, that experience was similarly disappointing. On both occasions, she observed what appeared to be employees and management congregating among themselves rather than remaining attentive to customers and their needs. It gives the impression of an establishment where customer service is not being adequately supervised or prioritized. I do, however, want to acknowledge one employee who deserves recognition. Throughout our visit, one individual continued coming by our table approximately every ten minutes to refill our water. I could see that he appeared aware something was wrong, and although he may not have been in a position to resolve the larger service problems, he made a noticeable effort to provide us with some level of attentive service. His efforts did not go unnoticed, and I appreciate them. Unfortunately, one conscientious employee cannot compensate for a broader failure in service and management. My greatest disappointment is with the management. Restaurants can experience delays. Kitchens can make mistakes. Orders can be overlooked. These things happen, and most reasonable customers understand that. What distinguishes a well-managed restaurant from a poorly managed one is how management responds when those mistakes occur. A professional manager acknowledges the problem, accepts responsibility for the customer's experience, and makes a genuine effort to resolve the situation. That is not what we experienced.

I recently visited TQLAS, excited to try the place under its new ownership, but unfortunately, I left disappointed. The ceviche, which I was eager to try, lacked flavor and didn't live up to expectations--it might have been the worst I've ever had. Similarly, the trio fajitas were a letdown with tough meat, dry chicken, and rubbery, unseasoned shrimp. On a brighter note, the margaritas and Palomas were average, not bad but nothing standout. I'm sharing this feedback not out of dissatisfaction alone, but in hopes that it can be constructive. I believe with some attention to the seasoning and preparation of the dishes, there's a great potential for improvement. A tweak in the kitchen could really turn things around and help TQLAS live up to the excitement of new management. I look forward to giving TQLAS another try in the future and seeing how it evolves. This review provides honest feedback while also offering encouragement for improvement. read more

Disappointing Service Experience We recently visited [Restaurant Name], and while the food was decent, the service completely overshadowed our experience. Our waiter was extremely rude and unprofessional, making us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable throughout the meal. Simple questions about the menu were met with dismissive and impatient responses, and the overall attitude was completely unacceptable for a hospitality environment. We expected a far higher standard of service based on the restaurant's reputation. It's unfortunate because the ambiance and food had potential, but the service left a sour taste. We hope the management addresses this issue, as professional and courteous service is just as important as the food. read more

My daughter and I stood at the entrance for several minutes without being greeted. During that time, the manager was visibly overwhelmed and speaking harshly to the young hostesses, who appeared uncomfortable and trying to maintain composure. Despite this, no one acknowledged us until I offered a friendly "Happy Cinco de Mayo," at which point a hostess kindly stepped in to seat us. Unfortunately, the situation escalated. Twice, as we were being seated, the manager abruptly intervened -- placing reserved signs down and yelling at the hostess, myself and daughter we could not sit there. His tone was harsh, dismissive, and unnecessarily confrontational. This happened two times at two different tables that we were escorted to by the hostess and in front of my young daughter. Needless to say it was both uncomfortable and humiliating. I have never experienced a restaurant manager behave with this level of disrespect toward a guest, especially a woman with her child. I felt embarrassed and heartbroken that my daughter had to witness this. When I calmly approached him to understand the situation, he responded by stating they had "400 reservations," followed by dismissive and aggressive body language that made it clear we were not welcome. The interaction ended with us leaving and both tears. My daughter said "I'm scared mommy, why was that man so mean". A guest from the restaurant who was dinning and witnessed the incident came out just to see if we were ok. Equally concerning was how he treated his own staff, especially female staff setting a negative and unprofessional tone throughout the front of house. As someone from a fourth-generation family in the restaurant industry, I find this especially disheartening. I would be deeply concerned if any manager in our organization treated a guest or employees this way. I understand holidays are demanding, but being busy does not excuse a lack of basic respect and professionalism. I am sharing this in hopes that upper management addresses this directly. No woman / person and her child should have to experience this kind of treatment.

Canadians and mid westerners probably love the food. I'm surprised they didn't have ground turkey tacos on the menu. They did, however, have a sad excuse for fish tacos I called in an order while traveling. I asked for a carne asada burrito with rice and beans only. No pico, nothing else. I get home and somehow I was given a fajita burrito. Everything tasted sweet, most likely a restaurant supply menu. I think they used a salsa that was made in New York City. I would have preferred pace picante sauce at this point.

The other included a chile relleno, a beef taco, an enchilada, beans, and rice. The food was decent overall, but it didn't quite stand out enough for us to rate it higher. The service was excellent--5/5. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made the experience enjoyable. The bar drink was made to perfection, and we also enjoyed an authentic Mexican Coke made with cane sugar, which was a nice touch. The atmosphere was 4/5--comfortable and inviting with a good Mexican restaurant feel. Overall, Carmens was a pleasant experience, especially because of the great service and drinks. The food was just average for us, which is why we're giving it 3 stars for food 5 for service 4 for atmosphere...so a good 4

Came in for lunch on a very hot Saturday afternoon, was happily greeted and taken care of by Joseph, he always has the best attitude, smile, and is super knowledgeable about the menu. I'm not drinking right now so he offered me a few different mocktails. I tried the guava, super yummy, tropical, and tangy. They also had happy hour I ordered the beef taquitos they were delicious and perfectly cooked. I tried the guac-a-crab, it was amazing and now one of my new favorite go-to's. It was a large portion I had to take the extras home and I finished it when I got home it was so good. Warm lump crab with Mango and guacamole, also try the chips and salsa they put tajin on the freshly made corn tortilla chips, the best! Ambiance in here is kind of dark and moody, beautiful flowers and paintings on the wall. Very nice decor and restaurant overall. I am a pretty frequent diner here. And have had to come back and add to my review a few times, My everything I've tried here is amazing. My go to was always the shrimp chicharron tostada, fish tacos, or mole enchiladas. But recently I enjoyed the last two "catch of the day" which is a daily special prepared by chef Georgie, and each dish has been uniquely curated, and tastes spectacular. Thank you for the amazing service always, Joseph, Brandon, Georgie & staff. If you haven't stopped by yet, come give them a try.

Something I'd almost forgotten from when I was living in Guadalajara. The preparation wasn't what I'd expected, but the flavouring was spot on ... delicious. Portion was so large I took some home to share. That led to a friend returning a week later to order same dish! I want to return but distance is a killer, because Salsas (another FAV) is much closer, it's on my FAV list, and with the MUCH LARGER SET OF MENU OPTIONS, I'm sure I will return. Service is fast and efficient. Michelada beers above average. Parking easy. I forgot pictures, but next time.
