Food was good, but sat under the lights too long; bartender cared more about cleaning up for a shift-change than me; ambiance is OK...that depends on how the staff interacts with customers... Don't spend your money here unless you like eating at JITB! read more

TQLAS - Skinny, spicy grande margarita - delicious!! - Mexican Near Me - La Quinta, California

Had a group dinner here in the bar area and the restaurant provided great service to accommodate us. Drinks, chips, salsa all refilled quickly. The food however, was just OK. Ordered the street corn which I really liked, but our steak fajitas was really a pile of peppers and onions with 5 pieces of meat. Pretty disappointing especially when sharing this entree, but we had chips to fill us up. read more

New owners... yay! And they did not disappoint. A great experience from start to end. Friendly and attentive staff, great drinks (loved the Margarita) and now complimentary chips, salsa. The shrimp burrito was delicious and filled with shrimp and a perfect balance of ingredients. The avocado taco plate had lots of flavor and prepared expertly. A great Old Town location where you can sit out on the patio and enjoy the whole dining experience. Love it at Tqlas! read more

Pastor taco wasn't great but service made up for it . Location is quaint and close to La Quinta resort , bonus it's next to adorable shops and other fine dinning restaurants read more

Huge improvement now that the folks from Gillaburger took over. The menu is vastly improved as is the food and the service. Always had a great vibe, right in the middle of Old Town, but the food the menu and food were lacking but that has been addressed with the new ownership. Highly reccommend the taco combination plates (twelve different kinds) you can mix and match- very fun. On a perfect Autumn Night this is a great place for dinner and margaritas and to hang out. Try it you will go back! read more

I have been to Ronda of diners, but this diner was especially excellent. The layout is simple but don't confuse this with the quality of the food or the service! Junior is at the helm of this operation. He was EXCELENTE!! Junior went out of the way to accommodate my coffee preferences and delivered to me an egg white vegetarian omelette that was one of the best I have ever had. Thank you to Junior and the chef at this perfect place with comida sabrosisimo (excelente food) and a familial ambience !! read more

Not good. The beans and rice are not good for a Mexican restaurant, super bland. I had the El Pastor tacos an it was gross. Everyone else at my table was not impressed...this it not right for a Mexican restaurant in the desert. Very disappointing, I'm not sure how they're still open on Main Street serving up that bad food...also our server just disappeared towards the end of our meal and was just talking it up with the bartender. read more

We came here for drinks and had the margaritas which were good and churros for a small desert. It was a nice location but our server was really rude and short with us. My bf made an obvious joke about happy hr being extended and he very rudely said you may be able to get away with that at other places but not here. We were trying to joke around and have fun and he just ruined it with his bad attitude so we did not continue to order drinks and decided to just leave. Only reason I gave it any stars were for the location and margaritas. read more

To start off, our waiter was awesome! He made us all feel welcome and checked on us constantly. We received our food with in a decent time after ordering and we were given a few choice of salsas for our chips while we waited (don't think I've ever experienced that ever anywhere else). Our food was great, my brother had steak fajitas, my sister had the Mexican pizza, my mother had the camarones al mojo de ajo and I had the fish tacos and my daughter had the kids flautas. You know food is good when everyone's quiet . My mom is the pickiest and she said she would definitely go back. We sat outside but felt like we had a private area to our self's. All in all we will all be going back. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful experience this evening at TQLAS Bar & Grill. We dropped in for a quick margarita after a long day and ended up staying for several hours in the bar because of the fun & friendly staff, great food and delicious margaritas at a good Happy Hour price. We want to give a special shout out to Matthew who gave us excellent service. We're going back tomorrow for brunch! We highly recommend TQLAS! read more

Wonderful evening. We had eaten at TQlas once before and had a nice dinner. So tired again with a friend from out of town. We were greeted the minute we walked in. Our server was Ruby. She was friendly, professional and helped us make decisions. She paid close attention to our table all evening. She is the best. We will go back and of course ask to sit in Ruby's section. Thank you Ruby for making a great evening fir us. read more

Visit last night was very disappointing. Margaritas were good but service and handling of the reservation was poor.

This was all takeout. For our appetizers, we ordered "the Flight of the Guacamole". Expecting an appetizer sized portion of three different guacamoles (as advertised), we were disappointed to see three small tubs that could have been all made with one avocado. And that was $14, chips not included in the takeout order. We next looked at our entrées. What was revealed was our dishes absolutely smothered in cheese, most likely done to cover up their bland and dry meats that are supposed to be the primary ingredient. With all that cheese, I had to double check that I was still eating at a Mexican restaurant and not a Cheeserie. If you love cheese for entrées and shortcomings for appetizers, this is the place for you! read more

The good: Our waitress Alex was wonderful. The food came out quickly. The $5 happy hour margaritas got us the right amount of tipsy. The amount of protein in the dishes was sufficient and we left full. The bad: all the food was very bland. Chips were chewy, guacamole was flavorless, salsa was blech. The ceviche tostada had very little flavor. The baja tacos were decent, but also with no flavor. read more

This place was AWFUL!!!!! And it got worse and worse with every course. Couldn't even try the dessert there cause we didn't want to be disappointed. Service was awful, the agua fresca I ordered was disgusting but I could not send it back for something else, so I had to just add an ice tea to my order. Salad was sad and wilted just everything was horrible. Needless to say I will never go back, it was so bad it doesn't deserve a second chance. read more

Admittedly we didn't try the food. The selection of tequilas is amazing. 7 leguass, corejillo, Don fulano plus the Don Julio and Clase Azul "standards". Take advantage of their half priced slight of tequila shots. The best way to taste then. The happy hour drinks are a bit disappointing. Yet, it's happy hour. Service is really good. read more

I'll never complain about a place that seats you quickly, has fantastic service and the food comes out quickly. Bonus points for the ambiance and reasonable menu prices. Around the table we went with Chile relleno, chicken fajitas, taco salad. They were out of the Pibil which, I was told is amazing. The main courses were great, the sides won't wow you at all, but beans and rice, who cares. The Chile relleno was really good, the fajitas were good and taco salad - just ok. All in all I'd say it was more of a 3.5, but Rounded up to 4 because of the good service! read more

We stopped by this restaurant for lunch after a hike, and the service and food was exceptional. Order one of their specialties and you will not be disappointed! They had live music in the plaza. What a disaster. I truly feel bad for the new owner, whose got a new chef she needs to replace and a new menu that needs major work. Dining room is filled with TV sets. Which I could understand IF a game was on. But Judge Judy? Uncomfortable, bar seating on stools with are impossible to get close enough to the table. Menu is hard to read and ordering margaritas appears to be a challenge. Food is the worst part. No seasoning, no spice, no flavor. Canned beans and very little fresh vegetables. New owners have a real challenge ahead. We won't return. See Comment from owner. Another guy who should focus more on customer experience and less on Yelp! Reviews. read more

Sat at the bar to pass the 20 min wait to be seated. Got two mixed drinks pretty quick, but they weren't very good. Asked to place food order with bartender. After 30 min we asked again to place a dinner order. After another 15 min and taking food orders for two tables that came after us we left to eat at a nearby restaurant. We had a short wait at the other restaurant. Had great drinks and dinner, and we were done before some friends who arrived at TQLAs shortly before we did. (Our two friends waited an hour to receive their food order which included substitutions due to not having enough ingredients.) read more

We (5 people) ate there at 330pm on Tuesday for the happy hour menu. We were seated but after 15 minutes, we had to get someone to come and take our drink order (the place was mostly vacant). The excuse was that the chef was tending the bar. They then brought chips and salsa. The chips were greasy and cold. The Salsa was like liquid and when they spilled a portion of the salsa when bringing the chips, they never offered to wipe it up. We had to ask twice for someone to come and wipe that portion of the table. Had to ask for napkins and utensils. Drinks came with one drink order being incorrect which they corrected. The meals came but were cold. Every Mexican-type restaurant I have patronized always has their hot meals with very hot plates which they warn you about when serving. One person's order (a single taco) was placed on my dinner plate! Instead of asking for another plate we just used an appetizer plate for her one taco. One order asked for no guacamole and to add cheese instead the order came with guacamole and no cheese. Thus the food was mediocre at best. The staff at that time seemed removed and not very interested in giving great customer service. Water glasses were filled once early on and then never came back. The restaurant was not busy at all, and it appeared we and one other table of 6 were the only ones there. We will not ever return because out of all the fine Mexican restaurants in the Coachella Valley, this one is at the very bottom of them all. read more

First time here in La Quinta and our first stop at TQLAS was an amazing and unforgetable experience. Manny #1 was such a genuine and amazing server. We ordered the chicken wings and can honestly say they were the best we have ever had and my wife is a bone in type of women. Everything from the chips and salsa down to my jalapeno cucumber margarita were top notch. The restaurant general manager made us feel at home soon as we arrived to just scope out a menu as we were trying to find where to dine on our first night. Everything they serve is all made from scratch and fresh to order. They even brought out water without us even asking. Coming from LA I am not used to such great service as some restaurants just treat you as another patron they may never see again. Looking forward to trying their brunch menu before heading back to LA in a few days. The menu is top tier and the vibe and ambiance of the restaurant was first class and made me want to stay for hours. Definitely worth the trip and overall the experience was memorable and something I will treasure on this special occasion for me and my wife. Every staff member was so genuine, friendly, and made me feel like a million bucks! Highly recommend if ever in town. read more

We were in town from San Diego for the long weekend and were wanting to try new spots versus our usual go to's. My friend chose this restaurant for dinner on the Sunday before Labor Day. She made a reservation for four at 6:30p, no problem. We arrived a few minutes after 6:30p and waited at the hostess stand outside. When we walked up, there was another couple also waiting nearby who I incorrectly assumed were waiting to be called for a table. Apparently, they had been standing there for some time just waiting to be acknowledged to even inquire as to a wait for a table. So we waited a few minutes alongside them before I opted to walk inside to see if I could find someone to assist the couple waiting and to check our party in. It was very busy inside with a few large groups and a few staff members running around. I was hurriedly greeted by a waitress (name unknown) who told me it would be a 20-25 minute wait for a table before I could finish my sentence. When I asked if that wait time applied to our reservation, she hesitated a few seconds and then looked at her watch, informed me we were 15 minutes late and that we'd have to wait 20-25 minutes. I checked my phone which stated 6:39p - rather than point out the fact that we'd been waiting outside for 5+ minutes at the hostess stand as has the other couple (longer, actually), I walked away gobsmacked. Once outside, I noted the other couple opted for another restaurant across the courtyard. In their place was a family of five who were waiting to be helped, too. I relayed to my friends that I didn't think we should eat there and we should find another place. As we were talking, another waitress approached us apologizing for the other's attitude. I acknowledged they were very busy and looked understaffed and tried to brush it off. Then a gentleman came out and again apologized and told us that they'd prepare a table and seat us promptly. So my friends agreed with wait. Several minutes (15ish) went by and one of my friends decided called another Mexican restaurant a short walk away to check their wait time. While he was on the phone, the kind waitress came out and apologized, stating she thought we would've been seated already. Once seated inside, she again apologized, said she would try to be our waitress (instead of the other one), we said no worries and that we appreciated her kindness. The gentleman ended up serving us - taking our drink and food order. The drinks took a while to get to us - one non alcoholic marg, a coke that was flat, and a horchata. We were given an appetizer on the house which was very good, however one of the provided utensils and plate were dirty with dried on food. Around 7:50p, after a while with little interaction, one of my friends suggested we leave money for the drinks and leave. It had been nearly an hour since we ordered food. Nothing was complicated and only one order was modified to leave out some pico. Preferring to inquire rather than just leave, we tried to catch someone's attention on multiple occasions with no luck. At around 8p, three of the four meals arrived (Cali burrito, taco trio, tequila Alfredo) - it would be a few more minutes for the fajitas. The food was so-so. Rather disappointing given the wait and all the other issues noted. Perhaps it was an off day? Perhaps they were understaffed for various reasons? Either way, I would not come back and I would not recommend. Too many issues we encountered, it was almost a joke. Honestly, I'm not sure why we didn't get up and leave at one point let alone get seated in the first place. The location is great and the two servers we interacted with the most were very kind but that's about it, so they're why the second star. Oh, and to note - the couple who gave up on waiting just to talk to someone, they walked by with their leftovers from the other place a couple minutes before our food came out. And the family of five after us, they were just being served their food as we walked out the door around 8:45p. read more
