We'll go back but there were some misses as well as hits. Good: chips and salsa, avocado fries, tacos (carne asada and mole chicken), and the house margarita. Miss: shrimp burrito (bland; needs texture like cabbage) and black beans (need seasoning including salt). Service from Nubia was great so it also goes on the Hit list. Ambiance too. Once we get some more menu favorites, this will be a go-to spot. read more

We came upon this restaurant rather late, in fact the restaurant was just about to close its kitchen when we called. Sarah who was working manager that night told us not to worry and informed the chef that there would be last minute guests. Robert who was are waiter and bartender was amazing. He steered us in the right direction regarding our food choices and made us some tasty margaritas. They were some of the best we have ever tasted. We highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Nice spot in old town La Quinta. They do have good drinks but it always bother me when a Mexican restaurant doesn't provide chips & salsa for the table. Their tortilla soup was tasty, but more on the creamy side. Their entrees seemed appetizing but nothing out of this world. read more

We went to Old Town LQ to find a place with good food, vegan options, and drinks. We were looking at the outside menu when a very animated gentleman came out and shouted at us, "BEST MARGARITAS IN TOWN!" Well, I guess we need to try this out! We chose inside, and the ambiance was nice, but it was stuffy. We asked the server to turn on the ceiling fans that were just sitting idle. The dining room was a bit more comfortable with them turned on. My wife ordered one of the "best margaritas in town." It arrived with a 60% ice content, nearly zero tequila, and the 'salted' rim looked like it had been dry-dipped in regular table salt. The flavor was 'meh.' We seriously could have gone over to Grocery Outlet and drank margarita mix straight from a bottle with a salt packet chaser and it would have been better. I ordered a 'Bloody Maria,' which is a Bloody Mary with tequila in place of vodka. It was delicious and quite spicy, which I love, but, alas, again, the alcohol was barely present. My wife ordered a mango salad, and she said it was bland, and could barely stand to eat it. I had the 'Crispy Avocado Tacos,' and found them to be very tasty, and, honestly, something I've never heard of before. Avocados breaded and deep-fried, and served in corn tortillas with pico de gallo. The Spanish rice was fluffy and tasty, and the refried beans seemed very similar to 'Rosarita' canned refried beans, but like the store-bought one, was palatable because it was hot. I finished my food as my wife was trying to get through that bland salad, and a server came over and pointed at my plate and said, "Are you done with that?" Not, "May I take that for you?" or, "Still working on that?" It seemed like I was at my sister's house and she was rushing me out. I once learned from a restaurant manager at La Quinta Resort's Adobe Grill, when I worked security there, that, "When a couple are dining together, a server should NEVER offer to take one of the couple's plate until both are finished, because it makes the other person feel rushed or uncomfortable." Every QUALITY restaurant I have ever dined at has followed this standard. This wait staff should be better trained in server etiquette. Their lack of experience and training is causing them to look bad and it is embarrassing this establishment. Another thing to note is that one of the expediters was sweeping the floors in the dining room WHILE customers were dining - kicking up bits of debris from the floor. This is not only very unsanitary, it is off-putting because one has to wonder why the floors were not swept prior to opening. All-in-all, this restaurant is trying very hard, but as they say, "You can't make a silk purse out of a pig's ear." They have a long way to go if they want to get this right. The fact that leadership responds to most of the reviews is a good start. I would ask that they do not respond to my review, because it is superfluous unless they intend to make real changes. The two stars were earned because my food and drink were acceptable. But I would NOT recommend this restaurant. Then - over a MONTH LATER, the owner responds after I asked him NOT to. Another chance? Not a chance, pal! read more

Chips and salsa were excellent, vegetarian tacos were yummy, and avocado fries were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Service was also friendly and attentive. Cute space with interesting art. Will return! read more

The food was enjoyable. Unfortunately, our server Isaac was tweaking hard and seemed like he was on cocaine--he was extremely distracted and made us wait forever to order drinks, food, and get the check. He messed up a few of our drink orders and it wasn't worth the wait to get them replaced. The poor service really put a damper on the meal. Hopefully, management addresses this because the food deserves better service. read more

First night on Family Christmas vacation in LaQuinta...We wanted Margaritas and Tacos. 2 Pitchers of margaritas for our table. Original and cucumber both were great. Dinner was great. Need a place to start for great drinks? THIS IS IT! I had the privilege of trying the Mi Coco (STELLAR IF YOU LOVE COCONUT FLAVOR) and my friends' margaritas. Good drinks (at least when I went), but bad food. I think the vibe of the place makes it cool but other than that there's not much to it. Don't get the flautas!! The chicken literally tasted like McDonald's chicken nuggets and I don't think that's what most of us want to taste when eating flautas. The semi-melted cheese on top was not very appetizing either. Surprised to see multiple reviews praising that dish...rice had no flavor and beans were meh. I did like the street corn but it definitely needed more chile since it was practically naked, although I guess that's more of a personal preference. read more

Oh my goodness! The service at TQLAS was spectacular. We went for lunch on Friday at around 1:00 PM! The hostess was so warm and friendly and our waiter Brian was the best! Food was delicious and hot when it arrived. I don't know how you get such an incredible level of staff, but we were all so impressed with the service! We had the fish (Mahi Mahi) tacos and the shrimp tacos and chicken tenders for my grandson. read more

An amazing restaurant to visit if in town! The food was amazing. They have two or three taco options. Highly highly recommend the Pastor! We also ordered a pitcher of margaritas. Easily 2-3 per person! Mezcal options are also great for those looking for something unique. Thursday night there was live music. Absolutely amazing guitarist..... created an incredible atmosphere. Best part of dinner was our server Oscar! Thank you for being such a great host! read more

Mexican food with a healthy twist. We love to eat Mexican, but the loads of chips and tortillas catch up to you and it's hard to find a lighter meal other than fajitas. The plates come with your choice of protein any style, the garlic shrimp is my favorite, veggie and potatoes. Guacamole flight is okay not fresh, didn't taste like it was made to order. The margarita flight with the flavors of the day is really good too, the tamarind was the best. They also make a perfect classic blended margarita. Service was warm and welcoming, we would definitely come back. read more

I would've had a more accurate review on the food but we weren't even allowed to be seated. On Saturday, 2:30pm I took my mother in law all the way from Maryland to TQLAS to enjoy the "best" of old town La Quinta on the outdoor patio-- however upon asking for outdoor seating we were ask what we were going to order and we mentioned drinks and appetizers. "Oh the outdoor seats are reserved for full service and you can go inside to the bar." My mother in law reminded the hostess she wanted to enjoy the ambience and order drinks outside. The hostess again said no you cannot-- meanwhile there were multiple open tables. I just think it's weird-- didn't seem to ask everyone what they planned on eating before they seated them. Anyways, just super annoying and sad they turned away customers because we weren't going to "buy" enough. Who knows, we could've enjoyed enough and e ended up ordering full plates. Wont be back because that just sucks-- so we just went across the way to The Grill on Main. read more

Ate outside. The spritzers are awesome - thank you! Got here at 7:10pm for a dinner for 2. Left here at 9:10pm. The service tonight was below mediocre. Chips arrived without salsa. Needed to ask for salsa. Had to ask for water refills. Our entrees took about an hour after we waited about 30 min for our appetizers and drinks. The server came by and said all okay here!? And we said, are the entrees near? He said your dinner hasn't come yet? And then went in to find out. It came out about 15 min later. Perhaps he neglected to put in our order? He said the manager will come by. Manager never came by. Street corn was filled with too much sauce and way too much Parmesan cheese. Trio fajitas were bleh, at best. Guava margarita was fantastic. I don't know if I'll be back. Ambiance outside was fun. read more

If you're in Old Town La Quinta, stop by TQLAS! The cevhice was fresh and the ceasar with shrimp was delicious. Too much for a single person to eat on their own. Amazing! My family has a great time at the restaurant. We had a party of 15 and they did a great job. The food was excellent. The service was on top of everything. The waitress was friendly. The owner even came by and said Hi! He was super nice and you can tell he cares about the service and quality of his restaurant. We loved the food. I ordered the carne asada tacos. What an amazing experience! Not sure why they only have three stars when this was some of the most authentic Mexican food we've ever had! Juan Pablo served us and he was so kind and on top of it! I was originally heading for another nearby place but detoured to TQLAS and am so glad I did. I was alone so I went in the bar. The two guys working really know what customer service is. They gave me a couple food suggestions, and served me two amazing margaritas. They even, at my request, prepared me a drink (no alcohol) that I could take home and "just add whiskey." It was amazing! I'm going back tomorrow! read more

Every once in a while, an evening at a restaurant goes perfectly perfect. This was one of those nights. Service was excellent. The patio dining set next to the musician was perfect. And the food and drink were spectacular. I can't want to come back on Thursday nights when there is live music again. We had the shrimp and cheese stuffed peppers and they were delicious. We also ordered nachos and they were piled high with delicious toppings. Sitting outside under the beautiful lights overlooking the plaza truly felt magical. read more

Came here for a Saturday night dinner because we were craving Mexican and solid margaritas after a long day of hiking at Joshua Tree. There is live music on Thursdays and Saturdays, and we sat on the patio so it was a great ambiance with the music and lights. We ordered Cadillac and prickly pear margaritas, both were delish. Then for an appetizer we got chips and guacamole sampler. The downside was that they charge you $5 for each basket of chips you get after your first basket. For dinner I got the avocado corn salad with salmon, chicken fajitas, and cheese enchiladas with green sauce. Our entrees were delicious but the portion of rice and beans was so small we ordered another and were charged $4. Overall the atmosphere and drinks were good, but likely will be considering other places before coming back here due to the prices. read more

The de pastor taco was fire! So good. And that might have been the best margarita I've ever had!

This restaurant is terrible, do not waste your time eating here. First of all, the food is average at best. Very little flavor. My daughter ordered buttered noodles off the kids menu and there was literally no flavor at all, might not have even been butter, not to mention there was a piece of corn floating in the oil/"butter". The worst part was the service. Our food arrived and the waitress hadn't even brought us silverware yet so we sat there waiting for someone to come by while our food got cold. There was a busser dumping glasses full of water soda and ice in the bushes directly behind our table, it was appalling. How can the restaurant allow this, the standards are so poor. I feel like because this restaurant is in old town la Quinta, they feel they can get away with minimal effort because of all the foot traffic but this place is absolute trash, I can't even imagine the dumpster fire that this kitchen must be. They should want to be better. Definitely skip this place read more

We had a great meal here the other night. the chips and salsa were very tasty and fresh. My shrimp tacos were yummy and my husband's enchiladas were some of the best that I have tasted - their mole sauce was delicious with a nice depth of flavor. Our waiter was very attentive and sweet helping us with the menu. He also moved the table around to help find a comfortable way for my husband to put his leg as he broke it recently. The owner, Zayed came to our table and we had a nice conversation where he updated us on the changes he was making.
